I brought my Chevy Volt to Mann & Machine today due to a 12 volt battery fault message I was getting. They brought it in as they opened and within an hour Heidi brought me up to tell me the car was fixed. I had come in having a good feeling about this car service center and I was overjoyed to find out my instincts were well founded. They explained that it was a loose connection and charged me for an hour of service. Their Hybrid/EV certified technician Kyle listened to the concerns I had, identified the problem and promptly fixed it. Nice, family run business that understands how to keep people coming back. I am NOT From CA! From the moment my husband Bill spoke with Brenda on a Thursday afternoon at 3 pm in the middle of a snow storm, we knew that Mann & Machine would assist and get to the bottom of our urgent problem! Our engine temperature gauge was drifting upward towards "H" for overheating and with an outside temp of 11°, our cabin heat was blowing cold! Brenda nudged one of the mechanics to check our coolant level. We sat in the comfy waiting room while Chris the Auto Technician checked over our coolant hoses, bled the system and refilled with 2 qts of coolant. Unexpected and appreciated, he took it on a test drive knowing we had a 3 hour trip home and was honest about not being able to pin down why the system had failed to begin with. This was the most expensive oil change I've ever had in my life. At the VW dealership I'd ordinarily pay $100 max with complimentary windshield wiper fluid for my VW Golf TDI. At other places $80, tops. Mann & Machine charged me $181 for an oil change and filter. $85 of that was just for the full synthetic oil. When I pointed out how unreasonable that was they said "they are working on sourcing the oil from other places". 5 quarts of Full Synthetic oil from Walmart is $35. On top of the ridiculous up charge on oil, they charged me $7 for windshield wiper fluid I didn't ask for and an hour of labor for an oil change (most places can manage an oil change in 30-45 minutes). When I called about the oil change I also asked for them to top off the Ad Blue/DEF fluid. They confirmed they would but (surprise) they had not. They told me to come back the next day (during a snowstorm) and they'd do it. These prices are predatory and totally unreasonable. As a business, if you've heard from multiple people your oil prices are way too high you should probably warn people you're about to charge them more than double for routine maintenance. The $7 for windshield wiper fluid was just salt in the wound. Mann & Machine has lost my business and my trust. read more

What I have not found anywhere else is Peter's level of professionalism and honesty. With Heidi in the office and his son joining him in the shop, this is truly a family business with an incredible ethic and amazing skills. They work hard to do the job right, and I have never been disappointed with the outcome. I shifted my business to a slightly more local mechanic (because I like to use local business as much as possible), and came to regret it. We're back with Peter and won't be leaving again.
