We came on a weekday - not busy at all. We were actually the only ones seated outside. This is probably why we didn't get a lot of attention/service without us getting up to flag someone down. Staff may have been inexperienced? They didn't even offer to take any drink orders (didn't see drinks on the menu either? Idk) The meats are good, we ordered multiple rounds of brisket and beef belly and also tried pork belly and chicken steak - not the best quality compared to other kbbq spots in San Diego but it will definitely do if you don't want to drive up to convoy. We came to 356 Korean BBQ & Bar on a Friday night around 6pm, right in the middle of the dinner rush. It was our first time there and we were pleasantly surprised that we were seated pretty quickly despite how busy it was. We went with the basic all you can eat menu, which was about $38 per adult and around $25 for kids under 4 feet tall. We had two kids with us. The selection looked good overall, although our family usually sticks to about three or four cuts of meat anyway. The vibe was nice and lively while still feeling comfortable for families. Service was also solid. Orders came out quickly and the staff kept things moving even with the restaurant being full. One thing that really stood out was the banchan. The kimchi had a lot of flavor and the kimchi cucumbers were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The meats came out fast and were surprisingly flavorful. Even with the basic menu there was more than enough variety for us and everything we tried cooked up nicely on the grill. I have seen some lower ratings mentioned in older reviews, but many of those seem to come from the soft opening period. Based on our visit it feels like things have improved since then. The only downside for me was the lighting. It is pretty dim inside which creates a nice atmosphere, but it made it hard to tell when some of the thicker cuts of meat were fully cooked. I found myself lifting the meat toward the light or using my phone flashlight to check it. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely come back again. 4 stars. read more

We came here during their soft opening and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Their posted hours say they close at 11 PM, so we arrived at 9:10 PM with no wait. They seated us right away and let us start ordering. We ordered the lower priced menu around $40ish. About 10 minutes later, the server came back to tell us they were actually closing the kitchen early because not many customers came in and it was Halloween night. They were already doing last call, so we had to rush and order whatever meats we thought we could finish just to make the AYCE price worth it. The meats selection and sides were really good, but the whole meal felt rushed, and it really seemed like they just wanted to close as soon as possible even though we were still well within their posted hours. We did leave full, but it wasn't an enjoyable or relaxed dining experience. It's way more spacious than I thought it would be and they have indoor and outdoor seating. I was excited to try their lunch special for $24, but they have already up the price to $27. Friendly customer service although when we went. It was only one server taking the orders. So it took her awhile to come back to us. I went to check out the newly opened 356 KBBQ in Chula Vista after seeing a lot of people rave that it is better than the Mission Valley location. I was honestly hoping to be more impressed, but for me it felt like a fairly typical KBBQ spot. The lunch special is where this place really shines. At $24 per person, it is a great deal and definitely worth it if you are coming during lunch hours. If we return, this would be the option I would choose. We tried the premium menu this time $59/pp. The wagyu did not stand out to me. Some of the it was chewy, which was disappointing given the expectation that comes with a premium offering. They are still in their soft opening phase and it shows that they are working through a few things, which is understandable. I am hopeful that consistency and quality will improve as they settle in. One wish would be for them to add potato salad to the menu. It would be a great addition!!! Overall, not terrible, just not a standout for me. Worth trying for the lunch special, and I am open to giving it another visit once they are fully up and running. read more

Can only order a few dishes and then forced to wait 10 minutes . Grill doesn't get hot enough and is not the typical round grill but instead rectangular with a peak down the center. This results in longer cook time... not very good when you have a hungry group waiting to eat. Marinade on the meat was also lacking in flavor, not to mention the meats were quite tough and low quality despite ordering the "Premium" selection. Soft opening--so I'm giving some grace. We were seated at a small table meant for four, but there were five of us, which made things pretty tight--especially with banchan and meat. Maneuvering was a bit of a struggle. The layout was also a little odd. We were seated outside, but because the space is open, we were right next to a large party indoors. Seating was very close, and it was hard to focus on our own group since we could hear everything from theirs. Service was on the slower side, especially at the end--we were finished for over 30 minutes before getting the check. That said, the staff was nice and the food met standard KBBQ expectations. I've been waiting for this place to open and will definitely come back in a few months once they're more settled. Hoping for a smoother experience next time. read more

We found this place totally by accident, and now it's going straight to the top of our favorites list. I came in with my mom, my sister, and my 9-month-old baby, and from the moment we walked in, everyone was so welcoming. I had a great experience at 356 Korean BBQ. The quality of the meat was excellent, the side dishes were fresh and the service was attentive throughout the entire meal. The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious and everything felt clean and well organized One small suggestion that could make the experience even better would be adding TVs inside and outside the restaurant to play live sporting events. This area has a huge sports community and I could totally see groups of friends and families wanting to come watch baseball, basketball or football games while enjoying Korean BBQ together. Yaasssss finally found a dog friendly kbbq spot in Cali!!! First off, this place is in a prime location, located in the outdoor mall area. So perfect spot to walk around with your dog. Parking is easy, lots of it right in the front. It's located on the outer part and next to the food court but is its own restaurant. Lots of indoor seating as well as a covered patio with warmers. Shoutout to Steve and rest of staff. Very welcoming and attentive. We've been to so many kbbq spots, we're not newbs. But we never had anyone really break it down to us. Steve showed us the order of how he recommends selecting your cuts of meat, and it's so you avoid grill grate from burning to often and we found most enjoyable which is to select from the premium nor marinated meats first on top of their menu and work your way down. The premium cuts has excellent marbling. They use really high quality meats that's fresh and never frozen. I appreciate how they have the daikon sheets and rice sheets and green tea salt. Exceeded our expectations! We selected the Premium Omakase menu for the soft opening priced at about $60/person. Excellent variety of proteins, veggies, and sides to choose from. Our faves and must tries were the truffle parmesan pork belly, American wagyu short rib, 356 seasoned boneless beef short rib, and the wagyu sushi! The food was so tasty and the quality was definitely high up there. Probably my favorite pork belly that I have ever eaten at a KBBQ. I really am looking forward to eating the Green Tea pork belly and Garlic pork belly next time. Additionally, I am normally not one to eat beef tongue, but it's my hubbys fave, and I actually enjoyed it here! I really like the setup of this location. It doesn't feel tight spaced/crowded. I really like the layout and the outside seating is super nice since it's still under the pavilion. It has a nice, rustic feel to it. Bathrooms are spacious and clean. The staff were all super friendly, attentive, and engaging! We were able to have small conversation with Steve (possibly the owner? manager?). First time trying this location , and was greeted so warm with Nico ( I hope I spelled his name right ) he was super friendly, got seated easily and sat outside. Nico was super attentive and carrying an amazing personality. I personally don't do reviews but his service was the best!! The food was so good with a good server, would definitely recommend coming here and having him as your server. The ambiance , we came at noon and there wasn't much people which was perfect. We wanted to come for dinner but one of my kids doesn't eat meat (she does but is very picky and will not eat a single thing at KBBQ places) so we don't get to do KBBQ much. I saw they had Caesar salad and French fries on their sides menu & she said she'd have that for dinner. My husband called ahead of time to ask because at other places, we've been charged full price for her only to eat sides (which we understand) to ask if we'd have to pay for her to eat sides or if there's a different cost. Steve the manager was so kind and nice and understood our situation and said he'd take care of it if we came by for dinner. When we got there my daughter just had a side of fries and the salad. At the end of the dinner, we were taken care of for two sides. He was super nice and understanding we had a picky eater but also saw there were 3 others who wanted to eat. Honestly if it wasn't for the service we received aside from the check at the end, it would've been a much lower rating. But let's begin, shall we? This is one of the more pricier kbbq spots in the area. We frequent different spots in our area and our go to has been Sura. But we were excited when we saw 356 so we decided to check it out. We opted for the lunch menu which was 32.99 a person. It was ok, however it was very limited as far as meat and side selection. Steam egg and corn cheese wasn't even included! I wish I had taken a pic of the menu because usually for that price at other places there are way more options available. Aside from that, I have to give it up to the people that took care of us because those 2 were great, the only lady working and the tall guy with the dreads. That was the best part of this whole experience. Now on to the bad. My grand baby is only 18 months and unfortunately she is tall for her age. She looks like a 3 year old but she is not even 2 yet. She literally only had a 1/2 cup of rice, 1 slice of meat, and 7 or 8 fries, oh and a half cup of ice water. They charged me 25 dollars for that. When I went up to question the guys up front about it, he said they go by height any kid 4 1/2 ft or smaller gets charged that. I told him we had recently been to Mana 2 weeks ago and they didn't charge us and everytime we go to Sura, which has tons of options for 27.99 and self serve drinks included for the lunch menu, they don't charge us either. The tall guy with the glasses tried to argue that they've been to every kbbq and they all charge, despite what I told him of our personal experience, but he went ahead and took it off. He did explain it's their soft opening and they're still working out the kinks. But with that being said, here's my final takeaway: -If you have kids under 2 that are tall and don't eat much, it's your choice if you want to chance being charged 25 bucks, which is pretty pricey for a cup of rice and a slice of meat -It's much pricier than the other surrounding area kbbqs with the least amount of options, sides included. I'll stick to Sura or Mana when bringing my grandbaby and family with us -They do have more nicer selections the more you pay, which would be great for a date night -For the most part, the customer service is great -It has a great ventilation set up and the restaurant is nice and clean with a cute hand washing station read more

There was a soft opening premium menu for around $60 but most of those special meats were like 1 order pp. There was no wait for us because its still soft opening. Meat quality is good and the marinated meats were really good, but the portions are small even when doubled. You can order a max of 3 meats per round with the option to double order each meat (highly recommend to get a normal portion). Service was good- every time the server came by we had to put another meat order because for a group of 4- meat went by fast with the portions. Though there is an open concept for the interior- my group and I got really hot easily and the vent wasn't working as well as we hoped. Will we come back?
