I want to give Manni's four stars. I do. This is an old school lunch counter, populated by regulars (mostly, it seems retired men who've been coming here for agres) who never ask for a menu and rarely vary their orders. I'm about 40 years younger than the average patron, but I never felt out of place. When I worked on the South side, I was here at least three times a week. The food is consistently good. It's on the greasy side, but that doesn't especially bother me. They always get my eggs right, and there's Tabasco sauce readily available for my hash browns. The service is adequate, nothing special, but I enjoy listening to the waitress banter with the regulars. So why not four stars? The coffee. It is abysmal. It is awful. I'm not exaggerating when I declare it to be the worst coffee I've ever had. I try to make it palatable, but the amount of cream and sugar required to do so turns it into little more than sweetened milk. And good God, do I need coffee to start my day. So, everything but the coffee? Good! The coffee? Makes me sad. read more

Came here with my boyfriend on Saturday at 12:45PM. There weren't any seats at the tables in the back so we grabbed two seats by the counter. After placing our order, we asked about the check-in offer (free donut with purchase of a beverage) and got two free donuts! Cool! At 12:00PM, we placed an order for takeout and later changed it to be done-in instead. At 1:30PM, our food still wasn't out. We ordered two south side scramblers and grilled cheese with tomato soup, which definitely shouldn't have taken that long. At 1:4PM, the food that we ordered for take out came out, and our south side scramblers were still no where to be seen. When the food finally came, it was mediocre at best. The grilled cheese had cheese in it that wasn't fully melted (you could peel the two slices apart). The breakfast plates were ok because how can you really mess up eggs? My friends ordered Philly cheesesteaks, a cheeseburger and chicken tenders. All of the food was room temperature even when it "freshly" came out of the kitchen. Overall, I would not recommend to a friend. The girl ringing us up at the counter gave us one free donut. But no one apologized or even acknowledged the the ridiculously long wait. People who came in after us (dine in and take out) ate their food and left before we even got our cold food. read more

Their donuts blow Dunkin's out of the water, especially the boston cream. They have completely decent diner fare for breakfast and lunch. Nothing too fancy but I'm giving 'em the full 5 because of what amazing value this place offers. Try as I might, whatever extra breakfast indulgences I throw on my plate, I can't seem to ever get the bill to go above 6 bucks or so. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere as well. if you're from the binghamton area and you like donuts and you haven't been here yet then you're totally blowin it, because their donuts are great! their yeast donuts are so light, the standard glazed "honey dip" donut is great enough on its own, but the maple frosted is also great, as is their new strawberry frosted. their boston cream is the best boston donut i've ever had, and their jelly filled are great too! the jam seems like its a mixed berry flavor and it's amazing. as for their cake donuts, they're great too. not as crisp as the ones you would get at cider mill, but they have a great flavor. the chocolate ones are good too, as are their new red velvet ones. their fried cinnamon rolls are also not to be missed! as for their other breakfast items, they also have good french toast, pancakes, and home fries. they have great lunch too, their burger is very good, as is their cheesesteak, they use good quality meat for their steak sandwich, and their fries are really good too! check these guys out! also, for those of you in the past who said their coffee is horrible, come back and try it, they added a new coffee bar since they've reopened read more

This is mainly for their donuts, but they're amazing! Definitely better than those flat, airy donuts from Dunkin's and I especially love the chewy fluffiness of the Honey Dip! If you like a cakier donut, then I would definitely recommend the plain or the red velvet (most of the donuts on the top shelf are cake donuts I think). TODAY WAS A SHOCKER! For more than 2 years I have eaten at Manni's mainly for breakfast. A favorite was the Southside Slammer which included pancakes. From day 1 I asked for the pancakes to be well and sometimes very well done. If I did not do that they get served with no color and typically under cooked. Probably around a dozen times over two years I had to send back pancakes to be put back on the grill to add color and be cooked through and through. Today was one of those days. When the cook, owners son, brought out the recooked pancakes he asked if they were okay. I said yes. I then asked him why when he cooks the pancakes initially they are not left on the skillet long enough to add color and cook all the way through. He took this as an insult I think. His response was "I do not want to burn them." As he walked away he said "if you do not like them don't come back here." REALLY! That is how you treat a customer who has faithfully patronized your business for more than 2 years. NOT HAPPENING! RUDENESS and food service do not mix. I will go somewhere else and make sure everyone I know and meet in Binghamton understands how Manni's treats people when they order something specific [in this case COOKED PANCAKES!]. read more

I am a HUGE donut lover. As a men's physique competitor, donuts aren't something I get to eat whenever I want, so when I get to have a cheat meal, donuts are always a part of it. I had never tried Manni's but alot of my friends had and raved about them and told me to try them out. I can see what they were raving about! They were so delicious!! I got a half dozen for roughly $5, the vanilla iced was amazing and fresh, the chocolate iced was just as good. The Cinnamon powdered was very soft and did not disappoint, and the PB with strawberry jam was a brilliant idea! My two favorites were by far the maple glazed and the apple filled. I love anything maple flavored, so when I bit into the maple donut, I was in heaven. It tasted like I was eating a big doughy pancake! Lastly, the Apple filled was so big and puffy, then when you got through some of the dough, it tasted like I was eating apple pie! Bottom line, if you love donuts, you need to get over to Manni's! They're very good, and very affordable. I can't wait to eat them again!! read more

Maybe this diner was having an off-day when I visited but I had a terrible experience. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a blueberry bagel and a plain bagel with extra cream cheese (I paid extra for the extra cream cheese). I waited almost a half an hour for my food to be ready, which I think is so unnecessary as they were not busy, and it's a diner with takeout so they should be equipped for rapid turnover. Once I received my food, I went out to my car to go home which is where I checked the food. I'm glad I checked before I left. The blueberry "bagel" was actually a blueberry doughnut that had been smushed open and had bacon and egg stuffed inside. I could not even have picked it up to eat it because it was crumbled in the styrofoam container and crumbled even more in my hands when I touched it. And the bagel with "extra" cream cheese (which I paid more for!) had barely any cream cheese at all. Seriously, I wish I had taken a picture of it. It looked like someone took a teaspoon of cream cheese and spread it as thin as possible over both sides of the bagel. Large spots of the bagel were bare and the spots that did have cream cheese was so thin you could still see right through it to the bagel. So much for "extra" cream cheese, I'd hate to see what their standard amount of cream cheese looks like. I turned right around and asked them to make this right, for which I received no apology from the waitress. I was really disappointed and I will not be back. I now go to Nezuntoz for breakfast. read more
