2/9/25- back for more. The coconut calamari was absolutely amazing and the buffalo jack pizza had a very nice spice level to it plus it was full of flavor. Finished it off with the raw strawberry hibiscus cheesecake. Man oh man the flavors here are truly exquisite and one of a kind. The staff is so kind and the place is kept up very clean.

We went to Mantra this afternoon and it was so delicious. Food was really good and staff were so nice. Will definitely go back again!

The ambience was incredible but the food was subpar. Everything was okay but it didn't have enough seasoning. I like the concept but after being vegan for 4 years, i wasn't impressed.

A lot of vegan restaurants are gimmicky, so I often approach these sorts of places with pessimism. But Mantra was a nice change of pace as the menu, while justifiably pricey due to the quality of ingredients used, was tasty and clearly technique-driven. They undoubtedly use the best meat substitutes, and our meal featured some fun surprises. We did visit fairly early in their development, thus while the interior was what I would call urban minimalist, there was a great deal of construction outside that made for a fairly ugly view. There was only one front-of-house employee, but he did a wonderful job explaining everything and serving us. My thoughts on our meal: Coconut Calamari - A dish that blew my mind and is an absolute must if you dine here. The taste is indistinguishable from the squid counterpart, though of course the texture can't quite compare. I wish the pieces were a little on the larger side. K-Seoul Pizza - gluten-free crust with vegan mozzarella, sauteed mushrooms, and a syrupy sauce that was tangy, fruity, and spicy. A fragrant and fresh tasting delight, though part of me wishes it was less saucy. The Lioness - a Lions mane crab cake sandwich of sorts. If you've never had this particular shroom, it's super meaty in texture and really tasty. The flavors were there, but I found the actually patty too thin and the gluten-free bun a tad too chewy. The thick-cut fries were well seasoned and fluffy. Overall, probably would try something else instead of paying $18 for this dish again.

    Yucca Fries - delicious!

One of the best vegan restaurants in Houston! Top notch food, service, and atmosphere. We started with an order of the yucca fries - crispy and well seasoned on the outside, and deliciously soft on the inside. These were perfection! Next, we shared an order of plantain nachos. The "cheese" was amazing and creamy, served with a healthy portion of avocado and pico. Super yummy! Lastly, we shared the "crab cake" sandwich and holy cow, it was delicious. The breading was creative, flavorful, and crispy - the "crab" was made from mushrooms - the combination of flavors was delightful. You can certainly tell the chef pays attention to every little detail and brings the perfect balance of flavors to every dish. Alongside the friendly and helpful service, the ambiance of the restaurant gives a nice, chill, laid-back vibe. We can't wait to go back and explore the menu more!

We enjoyed the service and atmosphere of mantra, and when seated felt a little sad there weren't more people there. I think the two items we ordered just needed a liiittle more of something - more lime and seasoning in the coconut ceviche, more heat or some kind of condiment on the pizza, both were alright but not quite up to the quality that the ambiance and vibe of the space leads you to expect. Just a few tweaks could make these both really great plates. I'd like to return to sample some of the other items!

Jackfruit sandwich was amazing. A little spice but delicious

Ohhh soosoo divine!! I really need to learn how to make some of these dishes. Their service is also exceptional. Cristian is the sweetest and tentative server. He's great about recommending new things to try.

Mantra was AMAZING. It started off with a wonderful gentleman that was so helpful, super pleasant, and nice. After looking at their 100% vegan and GF menu, I couldn't decide what to get so we got a ton . The coconut calamari is phenomenal and seriously was, by far, the best vegan dish I've ever had! Egg rolls and the yucca fries were good. Plantain nachos were amazing as was the korean bbq tacos and penne! Mantra's ambience was chill and laid back with great music. Its beautiful inside and the service was really beyond excellent. Nice clean eating with a well thought out menu and exceptional customer service.

We all ordered different milks -- whole, skim, coconut, and oat -- and they were able to accommodate all of us! I really liked my iced latte, which was rich without being overly floral or sweet. The pastries were also a hit, including the lemon poppy muffin, cherry turnover, chocolate croissant, and the spinach, mushroom, and cheese danish. The outside of this coffee shop and apothecary doesn't exactly have curb appeal, but the inside is bright, clean, and stylish, combining sleek lines with softer botanical elements to create a welcoming space. The barista was... indifferent at best, borderline unfriendly at worst. We did ask a couple questions that seemed to irritate her, but we were the only people in there, so we weren't holding up a line or anything. It was a bummer to feel unwelcome, but we were getting the coffee and pastries to go regardless, so it didn't ruin our breakfast.

New favorite coffee/study spot in Houston! This place is (I…read morethink?) in Montrose area, and a gem with parking both in front (with spaces) and street parking available. The baristas/servers are so friendly, and the shop truly feels homey. Perfection for studying, with inside ample tables/chairs with nearby outlets as well as some comfy chairs and a couch. There's also a cute covered outside area which I'm sure I'll experience post summer time. They have a few yummy looking food options at a great price point - including tamales and baked pastries. I picked the chicken tamale as a light lunch - I got the most delicious chicken tamale I've had thus far, served with kettle crinkle chips and a tamale sauce to dip. There are many coffee/non coffee options. I opted for the iced horchata latte - agree with prior reviewers that this is delish. It is not too sweet and a great blend of vanilla and cinnamon that masks the espresso. The atmosphere here is cozy but focused, with a mixture of people working/studying and hanging out. 10/10 will be back.
