Manuel's Auto Repair is on Clement and 32nd Ave across the street from CVS and Andronico's. Manuel has been fixing my family's cars for over 25 years almost 30. He is honest and he finds a way to not have to do major repairs that the customer has to shell out over a thousand dollars. Another mechanic said that the car is 16 years old and it is going to be $1500 dollars to replace the part and it will take awhile its hard to find. Manuel got the job done within 3 days and it was just the switch not the whole part. He also replaced the brakes because SF hills wear your brakes out every few years. I changed a tire at Alex's shop and after driving on the freeway, I found car was vibrating when speed goes over 60 mph. I went back to shop and Alex took car for test drive and stated car needs new axles, suspension system, bullies replacement and a bunch of other things. After doing all of that with over $1100 cost, vibration still exists. I took the car to Trap's Tire and Auto Center in south San Francisco, manager Vince stated all what car needed was alignment and tires balancing for only $350. Issue was fixed. Alex either does not have the auto repair knowledge nor the expertise in troubleshooting issues in cars or he was dishonest and tried to rip me off by doing unnecessary work that did not fix the issue. The worst experience and waste of money I ever had with a mechanic. More than a month going back and forth to fix my car. All my car needed new brakes and rotors and I ended up with a whole lot of problems with a car few years old I don't think he knows exactly what he is doing. The only reason I went there because he was close by... I spent so much money on parts and labor because he said it needed and ended up not needed because the problem didn't go away. I watched so many videos myself to figure out what's going on with my car that was perfectly fine before doing the brakes and rotos at his shop. Good thing I now know how to change brakes myself, way easier than I thought. this shop just simply dose't care. I don't understand how people go to sleep ripping off others like that. If you don't know how to fix something then say so... stop ripping people off... I basically hate driving my car now, I will never forgive or forget what you had me go through. And still my car is not fixed. Im going to also file a complaint with the BBB. If you want a good and honest mechanic don't use this shop. Never again... read more

One star because he was nice. I know many of us look to others for advice on cars and auto mechanics. I was the same and came on here to check who was recommended as a trusty mechanic. I just wanted to change some spark plugs and don't really know too much about cars other than the usual oil change, transmission checks, the simple stuff. Anyways, I wanted to give our 2004 G35 some love so decided to get the spark plugs changed as it was nearing 105k miles. I found Manuel and figured it was close to me and he has decent reviews. He changed the sparks plugs just fine and I had mentioned the car would vibrate a bit when I would drive the car 20mph or less. He said not a problem I will look at it and fix it, he calls me says it's the rotors and brake pads need some changing. Okay cool, he's the expert and i'm willing to give the car some love so told him to fix it. Next day I pick it up, I drive it home and notice the car is vibrating even worse than before so I call and tell him and he mentions it just needs to breaking in (funny pun now but not before...) so I drive it some more and it gets worse! So I drop it off two days later and he says it's the lower control arms...ok cool, he's the expert not me so he fixes it and I go pick it up and drive off. Not even one block down I notice I hear a metal clicking noise when I go on uneven pavement...something not uncommon in the SF streets... I drive back around the block back to his shop and tell him. He's like nah it's fine, we drove it around and didn't hear anything just drive it some more it just needs to break in...okay cool he's the expert right? So I drive it around and still hear it. It's Saturday now and i'm like i'm gonna drive it around and see if it goes away but i'm gonna bring it back on Monday anyways. So i'm on the freeway driving back from Colma and I hear a piece fly off the wheel and under the car and my car is now grinding, I pull over and i'm like wtf...call him and tell him and he says if I can drive it home sure and they will look at it Monday... like dude come on. Long story short, made it home, tow truck came to move the car, tow truck guy looks at it and says holy sh*t your caliper bolt is missing, I google it and it was that exact sound! Manuel says the car is ready, I ask him what happened and he says it's another piece and it should be fine now, had some words for him and asked him about the caliper bolt and he denied it! Said drive it around and bring it back if you hear anything. Like dude come on! Now i'm having another mechanic look at the car to see if his work was done correctly. TL;DR: if you want a good and honest mechanic do NOT use Manuel. read more

Kept my car for 4 days and could not fix it. He kept telling me he had to order and try different parts when actually he was short-staffed and had no time to work on my car I even told him the part that I suspected that needed to be replaced due to the symptoms and he didn't order it for 2 days. I've used him for almost 10 years, as has most of my family, and he has repaired everything from our Lexus hybrid to my old Jeep CJ7. Small auto shop at the 76 gas station run by Manuel. Had a check engine light issue with my Ford Escape. He found it was a recall, didn't charge me to take a look at it just said to take it to a dealership. Honest hardworking guy, just like reviews say. I never right reviews on auto mechanics because I have a hard time trusting them, since I have been ripped off too many times..But I had to write a review on Manny's auto repair! He is awesome! Very trusting, affordable, does not try and rip you off in any way shape or form. We just moved back to the city, and we had to register my son's car in CA, however his car was not passing the smog test. After my husband trying to figure it out on his own, and he not having a garage and tools to work on the car, we took it to Manny's. Manny, was able to diagnose the issue, he applied the diagnosis cost towards the repair, so he didn't charge us any extra. My husband is very knowable in cars and costs, and he even said, that Manny was beyond honest with the cost of the repair. It would have cost my husband more in tools, parts and time to do it on his own. We dropped the car off for repair, he gave us an estimate, and when we came back the next day to pick it up, the new price to repair the car was $400 LESS! Manny was able to repair without having to order the additional part he thought he needed. He could have easily, not told us that and charged us the higher amount, but he was so honest and took care of us. I just can't thank him enough! I highly recommend going to him. The auto mechanic you DREAM about. Manuel knows his stuff, is reasonable, honest and actually has saved me money. After my first experience of a repair quote less than half the dealer quote, I tried him out. His work was even less than expected and he told me the broken part reported by the dealer was not broken and just needed a bolt. Since then, my family only goes to Manuel. One time after a breakdown, he fixed my car at no charge because there was a chance his forgotten tool under the hood had caused the damage. This shop is like the old time shops your Grandad used. In this day of greed, it is so wonderful to be able to trust a business. Down to earth, friendly, respectful and courteous. I can even practice my spanish and he doesn't laugh at me. Maunel's Auto Repair is a fantastic find! I had a tire blow out and found Manuel's. It was after 5 pm but he managed to find a tire shop and ordered the replacement tire for me. He had it delivered to his place and fixed it first thing the next day. I am so grateful to Manuel. His price was fair and he did an excellent job keeping me up to date on my car. Hands down, Manuel is the best all-round mechanic in San Francisco. Not only did he help me buy one of my first cars from one of his clients who was trading up, but he had maintained and lovingly fixed it ever since. Manuel is SO fair that I've sometimes had to convince him to take MORE for his work - because he actually undercharges.
