When I needed new front brakes in a hurry--and replacement batteries for my tire-pressure sensors--Action Auto Care came to the rescue. I was very wary of this place at first, I'm not sure why. The owner is a very nice, to-the-point gentleman who says what he means and means what he says. Rather than over-promise, he was honest with me about when they would have enough time to work on my car. The work they did was very professional, and he charged me exactly what he had quoted me upfront, so there wasn't that usual confusion when you look at your bill and try to figure out whether it's worth arguing about any of the little charges. They have very little physical space, so you should be prepared to pick up your car as soon as it's done. Because of work, I couldn't come right when my car was ready, so I was a little bit surprised when I arrived to pay and the owner told me that my car was parked around the corner on Vermont Street. I get it; they don't have much space, but I had just had my catalytic converter stolen for the fourth time, and there are just some places, like that desolate stretch of Vermont Street, that I wouldn't park my car even temporarily under normal circumstances, let alone have it sitting there unattended for a few hours. read more

Got our front brakes and rotors replaced in January. Called on a Friday and was told they could get me in the next week, but then they called me back and said someone canceled and they could do it THAT afternoon. Sure enough, job was done in a couple/few hours, went back down there, the guy was *Very* nice and told me everything ... I even turned around and went back to ask another question after I had left and I saw him being just as nice and informative to a female customer, and he was polite to me upon my return (I was just being thorough about something). The price was very on-point with other shops I had called in San Francisco and Daly City. I just really appreciated the personal service and politeness and attention, y'know? Like, I'm not saying mechanics have to be therapists, but everywhere else I called, they were very blunt and to the point - SUCH a turnoff. This place was very kind and even called me back to try and take care of me quicker (and they did)! I'll definitely be going back next time we need auto work done. read more

I find out late Thursday night I have electrical issue with my headlights and I have to drive to LA on Monday for work... I know his place has a full schedule on Friday and doesn't have time for me. Still I call at 7:30am first thing Friday when I wake up. I explain situation and he says he is full but come in and he will take a look at it. This was my first time here and it has now become my repair shop of choice. A check engine/error light came on one night driving home, and the engine started running very rough. I had always used the dealership for this car, but my partner had used these guys often for his vehicle and suggested I give them a try. We called the next morning and even though they were booked up, Robert said bring it in and he would look at it as soon as he had a chance. It was all taken care of by midday the next day! When I went to pick it up, Robert explained a bit more about the work and the background and even though I am pretty auto-illiterate, he made it make sense to me, which I appreciated. When my car was dead I used my insurance roadside assistance to get a jump and I drove directly to Robert at Action Auto. I usually make an appointment for service but this was an emergency and I just drove in and asked if he could look at my battery. He is the best! Robert noticed my 2022 car had a 2019 battery inside which was the wrong size, and the battery holding clamp was just sitting next to it. Bizarrely- someone had stolen my car's original battery and put a crappy old one in its place that was totally the wrong size! We got such great service and I just love this shop. Robert went above and beyond in helping me with my 18 year old Prius. I had taken my car to Action Auto only twice before for scheduled maintenance and as I was leaving the last appointment my car's urgent/dangerous warning light came on. Turns out my Prius' inverter for the hybrid system died and it would have cost over $1200 to fix. This had nothing to do with the work they had just done (which was great). Robert offered to house my car until I decided what to do with it. This meant parking it out on the street and moving it when street cleaning was scheduled. I decided to donate it and Robert was able to give me guidance on that, too. I've been taking my car to Robert and company for around 5 years now. Pricing is fair, they are friendly, and most of all they are honest to their detriment. Ex: 1. "costco tires are cheaper than us, but we're convenient". 2. "Your wheels don't need an alignment after swapping tires". Lastly, they are careful and their network really shines as your car ages and needs more work. Ex: "there's a transmission hum, take it to Lenin at at Transmission Auto Center nearby". It ended up being nothing, but glad they left nothing to chance. Another ex: interior brown liquid leak. "Take it to Tod at Alouis Auto Radiator in case it's a radiator problem". It ended up just being a backed up air conditioner. But glad they are willing to point to specialists who are just as good, fair and honest. Had not had any maintenance for a few years because I only drive it once a month or so when I come to SF to visit family. Fortunately, it did not need anything extra. But Robert and his tech were great at telling me what services might be needed in the future, about when to think about having them done, and what symptoms to watch out for if anything is needed sooner. I'm so so thankful to have found Robert's shop. Ever since my go-to mechanics retired (Automotive Specialists on Bryant St), I've been trying to find a new mechanic shop to trust with my vehicles. I had a complicated repair that takes a lot of labor and Robert and his crew completed the job flawlessly. I swear my car runs smoother than it ever has after leaving his shop. Do yourself a favor and go to Robert's shop to get honest work done on your vehicle with a price estimate that doesn't go above the quote. He also knows the limits of his shop and understands when he should refer you to another place that specializes in a particular area (i.e body work). Despite being finished with my repair and off the clock, Robert took time to answer my questions about the door seals. Robert is absolutely wonderful, my engine light in my 07 Honda Civic come on and took it to him on Thursday and within few hours he told me what needed to be done. He told me that it would be done the latest on Wed but the next day mid day, he called to tell me that he had two cancelations and that my car would be done that day before 5pm and it sure was. I also asked him to look into something else that I noticed and he figured it out what was the problem without charging me for it for his time. As a female driver, finding a reliable and affordable mechanic can be daunting. A few years ago, I came across Action Auto Care on Yelp and since then I've been coming here whenever there're an issue on my truck. Luckily I drive a truck which hasn't had many issues in the last 15 years. I've come here for routine oil change and maintenance services. Recently, I knew I would be going on a long road trip and noticed a slight issue I wanted to take care of before getting on the road. Robert promised to make sure my truck would be safe to ride on the road trip. He even asked me if he can keep it a few days longer to make sure the truck was running smoothly and there were no additional issues. I felt like a valued customer. Robert called me daily to keep me updated on the process. He test drove my truck and assured me that my truck was safe once all the work was done. He even showed me exactly what was done under the hood so I knew exactly where my money was going. In the end, the truck was safe and the cost did not put me out. I came here for my first non-dealership service for my Subaru Crosstrek after my 3-year maintenance plan with Subaru ended. I needed a routine 5k minor service and Robert was able to squeeze me in for a same-day appointment because of some cancellations. The quote was much less than the dealership would have charged, and Robert said he would call me if anything came up during the service that would increase the price. "No surprises here," he said. 5 stars in every way. This is a gem of an auto shop, and as you can see by the many 5 star reviews and the fact that his shop is always very busy, Robert is in another class of mechanics. I've had work done on my car here just once, and the techs were done with the repair a day early! But more importantly, Robert has waved me off from doing repairs for my car that ultimately I didn't need at least two different times that I came into his shop. The fact that Robert is upfront with customers and always willing to let you know whether you do or don't need to do a repair really reflects his commitment to doing honest business and what's right for the customer.
