This is the most honest auto shop I have ever been to. I took my car in to have my AC fixed and my passenger side window repaired. Isaiah and the team were super transparent throughout the whole process. Everything is documented in their website/app with videos and technician notes from the full diagnostic, and they constantly provided updates via text message every step of the way. There were no attempts to upsell whatsoever. During the diagnostic, it was noted that my serpentine belt should be replaced, so I went ahead and had that done as well. As for the passenger window, I had originally taken it to another shop over five years ago, where they charged me roughly $1,000 to fix it. I ultimately declined the repair at that time, but recently decided to finally address it. Little did I know, the previous mechanic had done a poor job, leaving behind a mess for someone else to deal with. The team here spent days carefully inspecting and diagnosing the issue, and I honestly felt bad for how much time they dedicated to it. In the end, they were able to successfully repair the passenger window motor. The very next day, my driver's side window stopped working. Isaiah and the team immediately told me to bring it back in. They ordered the necessary parts and replaced the master switch, completely free of charge. I was honestly shocked. That kind of integrity is rare, and it means everything as a customer. I am a first time customer of Sunset Auto Care. I took my 2019 Ford Explorer Platinum in for installation of front and rear shocks and a throttle body plate all of which I had previously purchased. They gave me a reasonable quote and we set up a one day service appointment. They performed all the work and even informed me that the throttle body plate was not smooth and very rigid/ sharp. They smoothed it down for proper fit. They also performed a free engine inspection and found three items in the engine that were left not connected which was a result of Ford pulling the engine to repair a rear of engine leak and not fully connecting engine parts. They even provided me with photos and a video of the problem items which I will use to provide Ford service for Ford to rectify the issues at no charge to me. We went to Sunset Auto Care for a pre-purchase car inspection. They explained exactly what vehicle parts and systems would be inspected and what the documentation of their findings would include. Thank goodness we had the inspection done before purchasing this car. Major defects that would need repair or replacement in the transmission, timing belt and tires to name a few were uncovered. Worth the investment before instead of costly repairs after!! The Manager was very direct in his recommendation not to make this purchase. He was very precise in explaining the diagnostic results and what would be required to repair or replace. We trusted what he was telling us. They other staff were friendly and very responsive during the scheduling and pickup timing of the inspection. We highly recommend Sunset Auto Care! I had used this shop for years under the previous owner, Konrad Habelt. I had not realized that he had sold the business and retired. I brought my 2000 Toyota Camry in on a Saturday morning because I was going to drive to Tahoe on Monday. I was delighted when I heard they were open on Saturday. AAA had given me a jump and suggested that I might need a new alternator and cautioned me about driving to Tahoe without addressing that. Sunset Auto Care confirmed that I needed a new alternator and ordered it from the auto shop and said it would be done by 2 PM. Not only did they deliver the repairs on time and texted me when it was ready. My bill was considerably less than what AAA had thought the repairs would cost. The former owner happened to be in the shop that morning, and I talk to him about the new owner. He told me that he was delighted that he had sold the business to Isaiah as most of his loyal customers have been very happy with the continuum of care they received from Isaiah. Had a terrible experience here, which is super disappointing, especially considering that I have a long standing relationship with this business and have been a loyal neighbor and customer since 2007. I brought my car in, without having any repair knowledge and merely suggested what I thought was wrong w/it. Instead of inspecting it further, the issue got misdiagnosed and I was charged $400+ for parts and labor. I returned during off hours to pick up my car and the problem I brought it in for, not only persisted but seemed worse. I subsequently took my car to two other shops for their opinion, and both said it was an incredibly obvious and easily fixable issue, that should have been fixed immediately and for half the price. When I returned to pay my invoice I asked them how the issue was misdiagnosed so poorly and was told that they only looked at what I suggested them to and agreed the issue was obvious but didn't address it, because it wasn't what I asked about. The flippant attitude, passing of blame and carelessness with handling my vehicle was honestly shocking. I hate to have experienced that type of service from an otherwise trusted business, but unfortunately due to that interaction I don't think I'll ever return. If you're in the Sunset, I highly recommend my back up turned primary auto service station, Sunset 76 as an alternative. The sweetest most helpful people and business ever! My husband ran over his own surfboard and got it caught under our car's tire (can't make this sh*t up LOL). We live in Outer Sunset and Sunset Auto Care was able to come RIGHT AWAY and help us get the surfboard off the tire WITHOUT CHARGE in less than 10 minutes! The owner refused payment but we (of course) insisted. You can't get this level of customer service in this day and age. Have no idea about the quality of their mechanical service but I can tell you that the customer service is seriously lacking. I called early in the morning to see about bringing my car in for an electrical issue. The receptionist who answered the phone told me that they were sure if they did that kind of work (!?) even though it's on their yelp listing. The person said they would check with the mechanic and call me right back. 4 hours later, no callback so I called again to see if I could schedule a time to drop off my car. The receptionist looked up my info without acknowledging that I never received a callback and then asked me if I had already brought my car in ?! When I said no and asked again about scheduling an appointment they said something about " the same car in the morning" then asked me to contact the mechanic directly at another number! Really ? Perhaps the mechanics are excellent but based on the front desk experience, I prefer tol take my business elsewhere. read more

SMART/ Customer Friendly/ EFFICIENT / and GENEROUS ! / I stopped by SUNSET AUTO CARE after another repair shop in the neighborouh gave me what was a WRONG diagnostic about a banging noise I had in the engine of my 2009 HONDA FIT. I was told we needed to replace the radiator ! Really ? Sully, the gentleman at the front desk, stepped outside and asked me to start the engine. We heard the banging noise on and off, for several minutes. " I think you got a PB with the air conditioning compressor" he told me. He asked his colleague to come and check again. Same diagnostic. "We can do a complete inspection, and send you what are the options to fix your car". Cost : $90. Ok I said. Next day I received a text msg, describing the failure of the compressor, and the fix options: 1) Changing the timing belt to eliminate the compressor from the loop ( no more air conditioning) $121 2) Replacing ONLY the compressor $1300 3) Compressor replacement AND full air conditioning service if 'chard' are found. $1800 I called back Sully , and we review the options. Sully assured me that there was NO side issues if we were turning OFF the air conditioning, by eliminating the failed compressor. The car will run ok. I choose that option. We only drive that car in SF now, and who need air conditioning in SF ! Next day I got the car, fixed Total Cost charged: $211 ! ( I paid with ZELLE). Unbelievable! I will make SUNSET AUTO CARE my #1 auto repair shop ! Spread the words. read more
