My friend's tire had an air leak and we searched the closest shop nearby (this was the 3rd stop after going to 2 gas stations). Tamm helped us by finding a nail in the tire, took it off and patched it for us. We did not have an appointment and he still helped us in our busy schedule. He finished everything within 5 minutes- very fast! We asked him how much it would be for the patch hoping it would be less than $30 but he just said it's fine and to leave. I did that regularly for decades because I did trust the dealer until my last visit for an oil change when they tried to upscale over 2K worth of services! WTF??? No way. I began my search for a new mechanic. Thank goodness for other Yelpers, I found Tamm. I've been here several times now, but I remember my first visit. It was pretty busy, so I did have to wait a while before I was helped. However, while I waited, I spoke to another customer about her experience. She highly recommended Tamm. Wonderful to have this small business in my neighborhood. Tha is friendly, and willing to explain what's happening, but above all, straight. I recently asked him to replace my radiator on my 20-year-old Honda which appeared to be leaking. He asked a couple of questions and then said "let's have a quick look to make sure of the problem". He opened the radiator cap and immediately saw that is was damaged (common, apparently) and suggested I run for a few days with the spare cap he had in his drawer of parts. He was right - replacement cap cost $20. That's the kind of conversation it's nice to have with your mechanic. read more

I had a tire once that I was worried had run over something and he did an inspection and assured me it was okay with no charge which I thought was super kind. Most recently I went in for some maintenance and to look into a sound my car was making. He called with an estimate and options and an explanation of what was happening with my car. I recently brought my car in because I thought a nail got caught in my tire. He quickly assessed the problem and told me that all my tire needed was some air. He even taught me how to do it, which admittedly I never knew how to do (lol), and gave me a spare air pressure cap that was prev missing from one of my tires. 10/10 I would come back here for him to service any future car needs. I recently gave this place a high rating based on fast friendly service. That was about 10 months ago. So when next I needed work on my car, I went to them. It turned out that they chose to not complete their work to fix my left front window. I now have a window stuck in the up position and with an unattached door panel. Tha (the owner?) could have installed the broken bracket (that I had fixed using my own time and money based on his recommendation), I was even willing to put in the door panel myself. Instead he chose to have me call back repeatedly only to tell me each time that he was "busy". When I tried to narrow it down to a specific repair date he refused to give me one. He then stated outright that he did not want to complete the job, indicating to me that he would not do so and would only continue to move the date forward ad infinitum. I was obviously wrong about this guy's work ethic and my previous review. If I could give zero stars, I would. If only I could find a mechanic half as reliable as I gave him credit for. I needed to get a smog check, and they said I could drop off my car whenever I could. That was great because I was working and couldn't go until later. They told me it would be quick, about 30 minutes, so I planned to wait at the shop. A few months ago, my door started scratching the fender when I opened it, even though I hadn't been in an accident. I asked if they could check it while they were doing the smog test, and they agreed. When they finished the test, they told me they fixed the door! I was really happy that it was an easy fix. When I paid, they said they could always help with small things like that in the future. I brought my car in asking for a break pad change because I heard squeaks. After Tamm looked at it, he basically said I didn't need to switch it for another 20K miles and to bring it back then. Apparently the rust from leaving near the beach can cause some squeak sometimes. Didn't charge me a dime either. Just gave him my word I'll bring it back when the time comes. My brakes have been intermittently squeaky for a while so I finally took them in to a mechanic. I was lucky and Tamm was able to see me in a few minutes. He took the car for a drive and couldn't reproduce the noise, so he put it on the lift to check the pads themselves. They were fine, and he explained to me why it was making noise and what to look for in the future before letting me go on my way. And he had a lot of knowledge about my car (an old 2008 model that is no longer made). It's so nice to meet an honest mechanic who doesn't try to rip you off. I recommend Tamm's auto! read more

This guy is absolutely amazing!! I'm constantly needing his help with a tire or 2! I've resided here in the Richmond for roughly 16-17 years, I consider this very much "my neighborhood" as many others do as well who have remained in any one place for a significant period of time. I recently came in simply for air , due to the "tire light"coming on. Naturally, the guy comes out to greet me then he notices my tire was "bald", 2 of them. I painstakingly asked how much would the 2 used tires cost me, labor included? Mind you, this was during the winter rainy season, only one day before Christmas Eve 2021. I had very little money left after Christmas shopping and I still had more to get, This was the absolute worst time for car trouble....plus I had to be to work the next morning and I need to be able to drive there, San Mateo county. The guy comes back out,,he says since I'm unable to purchase the 2 tires right now, I must be EXTREMELY CAREFUL due to having absolutely no traction left on either tire, he adamantly warned me to be careful..... The very next morning headed to work, I end up sliding off the freeway when attempt to exit skyline onto 101 (I think). It was absolutely frightening!! I had no control of the vehicle until it eventually slowed down, then straightened up, so...I kept on going til I got to the office. The tire light came on again and the car would tremble a bit whenever I went over 50mph. I worked the entire day, tire was fine, I made it home, call Tamm's immediately to order the 2 tires ..he JUST the night before cautioned me that this could happen. I'm such an idiot. Unfortunately due to my delay, nothing could be done u til after Christmas (Saturday) Tamm isn't open on Sunday, it felt like forever. When I explained the entire story, he immediately ordered the tires needed, Tamm was closing for the evening, he said he would be available to replace tires the next morning (Tuesday), which he certainly did!! After getting an oil change and new battery at a different location, the engine light came on with engine misfire codes. Tamm let me come in this morning, took it for a drive, talking about my car. He has two of the same model. I have an important trip to Santa Cruz today. I was panicked about being able to make it. RUDE owner. AWFUL. My wife went here for simple things on two occasions: oil change, headlight replacement, and a new battery. On each of the two visits, Tamm became unreasonably SHORT-TEMPERED, unprovoked. Not sure why the HOSTILITY. The LACK of professionalism and clear communication here is appalling. Tamm can barely make eye contact and drag himself from his phone to tell you what the situation is, what to expect in wait times, and how much it will cost. Been to this shop twice so far. First was for a flat, cause from a bad valve stem. He was able to fix it same day. Second visit, I had a high pitched squealing noise come from under the hood. I was fortunate that he was able to service my car that morning, since I depend on it to take me to and from home. He diagnosed the issue, found a new one that was causing it, and did the necessary repairs, keeping the bills fairly close to the originally quoted price. At the end of the job, no more squeals, peace of mind was attained, and my bacon was saved. 2/2 times saving my ride, which is almost turning 20 yrs old.
