4/5/2015, Saturday - our first time there. We arrived around 8pm. We were told we moused the rush. Very friendly employees and interesting decor. They had a variety of options to choose from including Chinese food. We ordered appetizers, fried pickles, fried gator and shrimp bombers. This is definitely a "hidden" gem! Greeted as soon as you walk in, small & quaint! Food is absolutely delicious! We started with the crawfish queso - it's great with the home made chips. Onion rings - 0/5 Terrible, thick pancake like batter and mushy onion. Never again. Jumbo shrimp cocktail - 3.5/5 Nothing wrong with it other than the word "jumbo" being misleading. Large shrimp at best. The cocktail glass dwarfed the shrimp. Chicken fried steak - Didn't try it but the consumer had no complaints! Crawfish etouffee - 1.5/5 Decent amount of crawfish, but too different in flavor from pretty much every other crawfish etouffee out there. The color made it look more like a curry. And it wasn't very warm. Not for me. Nobody at the table wanted to finish it. Sorry, etouffee. Fried shrimp/oysters/crawfish/etc. - 5/5 No complaints. Crispy and fresh. Hushpuppies - 0/5 Absolute trash. Please improve these flavorless, hard balls. Spicy boiled red potatoes - 5/5 My mouth was on fire in the best of ways. This was such a nice find close to home! Sorry I don't have photos this time. I will say the wait was a little longer than normal but we had the best wait staff. The service was exemplary! My mom ordered the shrimp, hubby the catfish, I ordered chicken... everything was cooked to order and good. The place was family oriented and you could tell by tue folks eating there; they were pleased. It has a simple ambiance, tables, some booths. So. Small town? Check. Small Place? Check? Ridiculously good food? Check? Cold and dreary Sunday? Check. Wait...isn't this usually the end of the review!?!?! We trod in on a Sunday just a little past 1 PM and there was still a decent crowd from the lunch rush. We were sat in about 10 min and got to work. For the appetizer we had the bacon wrapped shrimp dredged in a sweet sauce. These were pretty good save for the bacon on some was still a little squidgy, some were super crunchy, and some were just right. The flavor of bacon definitely goes with skrimps and the accompanying thin crispy onions were pretty good as well. Of course, I had to get my fried skrimps and fries. Portion Control...in short...is not in the owners vernacular apparently. Coming here and trying to "eat light" is like trying to inflate a truck tire with your lungs. It will be laughably fun to watch and quite impossible. The flavor of the skrimps was pretty good. The fries which adorned the same plate were decent, but lacked sodium chloride, so I added some, lovingly dunked them in ketchup mixed with hot sauce, and ate what I could. The corn nuggets...a word of painful advice here...WAIT. No seriously. WAIT. Let these cool down if you do not wish to decimate your taste buds devoid of flavor tasting ability. A noob mistake was made rendering part of my tongue useless. But my God these tasted good. As did the hushpuppies. I could eat my body weight in hushpuppies were my waist not in danger of increasing in proportion to the amount eaten. My ONLY gripe is that it is 30 minutes from my house. So. Small town? Check. We ran across Manvel Seafood and thought it would be a great place to experience; especially since there are always a parking lot full of cars. I'm a born and raised Louisiana woman so the words "Spicy Crawfish " displayed on their building caught my eye. When I arrived I immediately asked about crawfish and the waiter informed me they were out ‍ Already off to a bad start. Nonetheless I took a look at the menu and there were plenty of options. I opted for the 3 catfish platter. I figured, I'd stay on the safe side and not explore too much as it was my first visit. When the waiter brought my food to the table, my daughter immediately asked if I'd ordered chicken strips. I informed her It should be catfish. Once I took my first bite, I was immediately disappointed. The fish was fried in FLOUR ‍‍‍‍ Who fry fish in FLOUR???? Not to mention it taste like they'd been frying the fish and chicken in the same grease. I normally have to ask "Is it Swai or Real Catfish"! Now I have to ask "Are you Using flour or Cornmeal" #Wow I'm giving a 3 star because the gumbo was decent, the side salad was great and the baked potato was good. Will I return? I don't think so. If ur looking for a nice little family owned business this is a treat! The service is good, sometimes a bit slow do to it's popularity, but definitely worth the wait. This place was clean; they were practicing COVID precautions and the food was Great!! I am looking forward to their crawfish arrival. We had a little bit of this and that I'll post photos. I didn't get to eat my gumbo because my salad was so filling the gumbo made it home to the fridge but my son ate it because he finished his off at the restaurant and liked it. It tasted good to me just I'm not a big okra in my gumbo water so I was okay with him finishing it. They were generous with the seafood so I can say it was a true seafood gumbo. I have eaten here twice and the food was delish both times. I was able to try Fried Alligator for the very first time......and it taste like chicken. Great servers, friendly and attentive.
