this place is no longer owned by the mom and pop that used to own it. when i lived in alvin, to me the food wasn't the same as it used to be. we mentioned it to our server and they treated us horribly, like we were the ones to blame. The staff was so combative especially the management on duty. The situation became so ridiculously escalated that the police had to come and get involved. i usually don't try to look at life this but i couldn't help but feel like they were treating us this way because we are lgbt. would give 0/5 if it were possible. read more

Pleasantly surprised! Food was 10/10. The portions were great. My appetizer felt like a meal. The lunch specials came with enough for two meals. A pound of crawfish and a pound of shrimp with the extras for $12 is a steal. And none of the crawfish were puny. Good size and flavorful. Everyone was pleased with their meals. For a local crawfish restaurant I have to say the Cajun Shack was really good. The inside of the restaurant was clean and decor was pretty cool. We ordered 2 pounds of the spicy garlic butter crawfish and they had decent size, not muddy and really good. Just a FYI the minimum amount you can order is 2lbs or more. The Cajun Shack in Alvin is a new establishment that specializes in boiled seafood, offering a variety of different flavors to toss the seafood in after boiling. The crawfish in the Cajun garlic butter sauce, which gives a very nice kick of fresh garlic flavor, were quite tasty, as were the jumbo shrimp. Both were fresh and decent sized - the shrimp were really nice sized. The combo of flavors the food is boiled in permeates through the shell, down to the flesh, while the garlic butter sauce just jazzes it up a notch and adds even more flavor. I always choose mushrooms as an accompaniment because of how they soak up all that spicy, garlicky goodness. Atmosphere is pleasing to the eye, but service can be slow and inconsistent when it is busy. Even so, we enjoy the boiled seafood at The Cajun Shack and will keep coming back. read more

Didn't have high expectations but it wasn't bad. Came at about three o'clock on a Saturday. No one else was there but two other parties came while I was there. Food was fast. Cans or bottles only for drinks even sweet tea is bottled. Boiled and fried foods only on menu but they had po boys and etouffe specials but my server didn't tell me. Would have tried the etouffe. Oysters were good. So were mushrooms and fries. All hot. Nothing amazing but not bad. Just here for work but would recommend. My total was $22. read more

The wine based daiquiris are pretty good too, they will have you feeling it. Nice little local Cajun restaurant I tried the half pound jumbo shrimp with corn it came with a really delicious sauce and there was plenty of it it had some cilantro cooked in there. I also tried the Boudin balls and they tasted like they were homemade they had generous portions. Been to this placed about a year ago and it was delicious! Came back today and it was horrible. The food tasted like it's been cooked in used oil for all different food items, shrimp, fish, and fries. The fish had no flavor. The shrimp was over cooked and the fries taste like pure old grease. Husband brought the food back and spoke to the owner and tasted the shrimp and agreed with us and said they would take care of it. I hope they do because the food here used to be wonderful. They took out drink and food order. Drinks are only in a bottle or can, fine, no real issue there. They were out of the "EZ Peel" shrimp but were told the chef would peel them. We declined the kind offer, we'd peel our own. We ordered 2 pounds, one cajun dust mild and one pound garlic butter spicy. They were not like the good cajun boil we really enjoy but it was tasty. No matter where you go it's hard to find or beat a good, spicy cajun boil. The waitress was attentive but not intrusive. Here's the reason for the three stars: 1. Those that worked there were sitting at another table and were incredibly loud, as if they were at a bar loud. 2. Their conversation was full of expletives. "F" bombs were dropped almost every other word. Other foul language was used as well. I would definitely question whether or not that this type of behavior by those that worked there would be condoned but I don't think that we will be back or recommend a family to attend. read more

I am a very picky crawfish eater and can tell you their crawfish is fresh, the right size, boiled and seasoned perfectly! I love a garlic butter seasoning with extra garlic and sauce. Need to rinse your hands? There's also a little sink in the bathroom hall to take care of that instead of having to open a door to the bathroom with dirty crawfish hands.
