Love the fried chicken sandwich! Get the medium heat. I was shocked and so happy to find that they have a Ma'ono inside the Rachel Ginger Beer :) The fries are good as well. It only takes a couple of minutes and comes out super fresh and crispy. I was stuffed after I ate it. The parking is tough, looked around everywhere on the street level but ended up having to park in the parking garage. Check this place out if you don't want to make the trek to West Seattle for the restaurant. read more

Okay they are back on their game now! It's been a long time since I've tried them after having some bad experiences in the past with dry chicken, but I decided to go for it tonight and the sandwich was amazing. The fried chicken sandwich was perfection. Nice and crispy on the outside tender on the inside. It's served on a Hawaiian style bun with house made pickles which takes this to the next level. 10/10 for a fast fried chicken sandwich! read more

This burger was quite delicious. It had a very crunchy exterior with amazing flavor. They also let you pick the spice level which is really nice! The only let down of this place is the price and the customer service. It was $11 for a chicken sandwich which is a bit excessive but it is university village after all. Also the lady at the front was not that friendly, she did not smile one bit which was a bit of a turn off. read more

It's been 2 years since I visited Seattle, but this chicken sandwich still pops into my mind every so often. I love chicken so much that the wedding cake topper version of myself is holding a piece of fried chicken. Final meal on earth? Fried chicken. That's how devoted I am. Ma'ono is located inside Rachel's Ginger Beer. It's just a little window at the corner of the store. But their sandwiches! The bread is like a toasted bun version of King's Hawaiian bread, the chicken is meaty and perfectly crispy, the spice gives true heat (watch out!), and they use daigo/takuan/yellow pickled radish instead of the traditional green pickle. The Popeye's chicken sandwich craze does not even hold a candle to this deliciousness. SO GOOD. read more

One of the best chicken sandwiches you can find in Seattle. My favorite chicken places I've been too are lardo and basilik. There isn't much in Seattle. I would come back definitely. Too bad the meals don't come with a side at 11$. The sandwich went so well with the king sweet Hawaiian bun! I went with mild and it was perfect! Didn't really taste the sauce if there was any. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to get over to Maono's in the University Village location! I headed over with some friends and while the food took some time, the food was downright delicious. I got the two drumsticks, mac & cheese, and a RGB cocktail. The drumsticks were bright bright orange, and I could just see the heat! The chicken was so juicy and flavorful, and had the perfect heat to it. I got the spicy one. The kimchi mac n' cheese is the perfect way to cut the heat, and reminds me of those Kraft Mac N' Cheese days...which isn't a bad thing. It was so comforting to eat that mac n' cheese and is amazing in it's cheesy goodness. I tried some tater tots too, and those were crispy and delicious as well. RGB cocktails are delicious as always! Definitely a great spot to grab a quick bite while in UVillage. read more

This little store window is located in Rachel's Ginger Beer in U Village, which is pretty awesome because you can help yourself to some delicious ginger beer and l soft serve after scarfing down a chicken sandwich! I ordered their fried chicken sandwich and got mild spicy - if you're decent at handling spicy food, I would go for at least medium because mild was a bit too mild. The Hawaiian buns make the sandwich that much better. It'll be hard for me to go back regular, not buttery buns. Pickles add a nice crunch and sourness, which says a lot since I don't even like pickles. Also get the cheese sauce! Tastes super good when you slather it onto your sandwich. Little bit pricey, but I'd definitely come back! read more

Best chicken sandwiches I've tried in Seattle! Although it's pretty pricey for one sandwich ($12), portions are huge and the chicken is crispy! Has a good blend of sweet (use of Hawaiian buns) and savory! Would highly recommend! read more

Was visiting Seattle and walked by Rachel's Ginger Beer when I saw two women eating the fired chicken sandwich on the patio. I heard a moan, turned my head, saw the fried chicken in their hands and said I gotta try it--DID NOT REGRET IT. I've been on a fried chicken sandwich pilgrimage before and have to say this is by far the best. The Hawaiian buns offered a sweet base for the hint of spicy and crispy chicken. The lettuce was fresh and a bite of pickled daikon did well to accent the sweet and crispy. A problem I've encounter with other chicken sandwiches was the saltiness, but this was a perfect balance. Fries were also nice and crispy. Not mind blowing fries but I wasn't looking for that. Paired very well with the sandwich though and that's all that matters. Grab a ginger beer while you're at it. Likely will eat this again on this Seattle trip. read more

A good place if you are in the neighborhood. They only have 3 styles of chicken: Chicken sandwich, drumsticks, and chicken digits (nuggets). Be warned, Hot is very hot. It's like the Korean Fire Noodle hot. And if that not enough they have triple hot. We ordered medium which was right for us. Hot was too hot. Drumsticks are crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. And the spice is on the chicken skin only. But the Mac n Cheese! It is very good. 6 thumbs up from our party of 3. For beverage, they have a cocktail bar and beer. In a cold raining day, Rachel Ginger Beer offered hot ginger beer. It is non-alcoholic. We had passion fruit and guava. All 3 of us voted for guava as our favorite. Order food at a window then delivered to our table. BUT, tables are sparse and dirty. It might be we were there at their peak hours. read more

I had to drench every little pieces with the sauce just so it doesn't hurt my tongue. Some fellow yelpers complain about the size; quite contrary, I think the portion is quite generous considering this place is in U Village. Came here for the first time a week or two ago and I think the hot chicken sandwich was good, nice kick if you like the spicy. The sweet, butter buns were delicious with the lettuce; however, I thought the chicken was a bit thin and dry and the sandwich itself was a little small. When you've had Howlin' Rays in LA, the chicken sandwich game changes your life forever, for better or worse. I was low key expecting something similar for the same price point, or at least a similar portion size, but it just couldn't compare. I'd definitely enjoy it more if the chicken was more moist, or the portions were bigger, but still a decent spicy chicken sandwich. read more

Their fried chicken sandwich ($11) was delicious! It's a crispy chicken breast in a king's Hawaiian bun. I've always preferred chicken sandwiches over beef and this has to be one of the best chicken sandwich i've ever had. It's tasty, juicy and extremely filling! My boyfriend had also ordered the mac & cheese and tater tots. The mac & cheese is very creamy and the tots were just like any other tater tots. Location: Very hard to locate. It's in U Village and It's almost hidden because it shares space with Rachel's Ginger Beer. Overall, great food & quick service. I would've given this place 5 stars if their chicken sandwich weren't so expensive! read more

So, I'm somewhat of a connoisseur of spicy foods. I put hot sauce on damn near everything I can, and not just Red Hot or Tapatio (those are yummy but not spicy). I'm talking Dave's insanity and Pain 100% type sauces. Whenever I'm at a restaurant and the menu says that something is supposed to be really spicy, I usually get it as I'm curious if it will hit the mark. I'm usually disappointed. Most places in WA that I know of just don't know what EXTREMELY SPICY really means. But today I went to Maono and ordered their "Hot, hot, hot" chicken tenders. I took a bite, it wasn't too bad at first, but the heat started to sneak up on me. And just as I thought I was at my limit, it kept getting spicier. It was so painful I actually got an endorphin high from it and that hasn't happened in YEARS. I had finished 2 out of 3 of the tenders given. And as I looked down at my last chicken tender, I realized, for the first time in my life, I had been defeated by a restaurant menu item. Now, maybe for most people, not being able to finish your food from being too spicy would be a bad thing. Not for me though. I pride myself on my heat tolerance and the fact that I was finally beaten by a restaurant's spicy chicken made me well up with joy. When Maono says "hot, hot, hot" on their menu, unlike most places, they actually mean it, and I respect the hell out of that. I have a friendly archenemy now. You haven't seen the last of me Maono. I am coming back for round 2 (and round 3 if need be). I will beat you one day.....one day..... Oh ya, and their dipping sauce is pretty good too. read more

I've eaten here many time. Usually great food and service. Today they shorted my order. No big deal but did have to drive around and find another parking spot. But then they were really rude about filling the order as ordered. Unpleasant woman said nothing and tossed the bag at me. It's only friggin daikon and sauce lady. You screwed up the order. Be polite to your customers. read more

If you don't eat meat but miss the taste for fried chicken look no further! As a pescatarian, I must admit that I have had cravings for fried chicken that I experienced in my more meat filled past. Enter Ma'ono's fried chicken tofu sandwich. I came here for dinner/happy hour since its in the same location as RGB in UVillage (definitely a plus to also satisfy that gingerbeer thirst hahah). I ordered the fried chicken tofu sandwich with a side of tater tots. The Place: Ma'ono is literally a small window to a kitchen in the back corner of RGB. Be careful not to miss it! They take your orders at the window and will bring your food out to wherever you're sitting if you choose to dine in. The Food: SO GOOD! I was really hungry so I got a sandwich and a side, but if you're not too hungry, a sandwich is definitely enough! Fried Chicken Tofu Sandwich - unbelievably the same taste as fried chicken! It comes in a bun paired with lettuce, daikon radish and sauce that you can adjust spice levels. The taste really just steals the show for this one. Tater Tots - seasoned with their ono sauce, it is a little bit on the spicy side, but not overwhelmingly so. If you're a sauce person, I would recommend adding some since it can be a bit dry as well. I will always come back if I ever crave the taste of fried chicken again! read more

I went with the medium but I think I could handle the next level up (hot) just fine. We got a mild for the wife and she was really happy with the taste and crispness of the chicken. It is a really, really good chicken sandwich. I look forward to trying the hot next time to see how it compares to the medium. The macaroni potato salad is also really good and the portion was a good size to share with another person. read more

We ate a little chicken tender snack while in Rachel's and everyone's burgers looked delicious. I told my friend to get the Hot but he accidentally got the Hot Hot Hot flavor. It put me in physical and mental pain, while also gave me pleasure. Weird. In all seriousness, the chicken was really good but I can't tell if it's because my taste buds literally got burnt off by the spiciness!! Love it though. I'm originally from Hawaii, and I wish they had something like this back home. This location is located at the University Village mall, and it's actually in a shared space with Rachel's Ginger Beer, so I couldn't find the place at first. I got the chicken sandwich, which comes with cabbage and daikon pickles. This place exceeded my expectations. The sandwich comes with a perfectly sized piece of chicken, and it was crunchy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside throughout every single bite. We also had the cucumber poke; I was expecting more cucumbers than the seaweed pieces, but it was still pretty good. They had a special of kimchee mac and cheese going on. It was all right, nothing too special but it left me feeling satisfied and ate the whole thing. I wish they bring this to more locations along the west coast! read more

Hidden inside Rachel's Ginger Beer in U Village is some tasty fried chicken. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with a medium heat level. This was my second time trying this place, the first time I got the same sandwich but mild heat level which was way too tame for me. The medium (generously seasoned with cayenne) was much better. I love the daikon pickles. The addition of them is really what sets this sandwich apart. There were only two people ahead of us in line and we were told the wait would be about 5 min however the wait was about 20 min mid day on a sunny Sunday. read more

Adore this place. Nestled into a Rachel's Ginger Beer, it can be hard to spot, but it's worth the hide and seek. It's perfect fried chicken, plain and simple. If you want it as a sandwich or on its own or maybe fire alarm spicy or the most vanilla option, you get it perfect. The crunch on the chicken is just unparalleled. It's not over greasy or too bready. The chicken is moist and actually has flavor itself. Gosh and the pickled accompaniment gives you a perfect contrast. It's a slam dunk. I love that I can truly get spicy chicken here (they do not shy away from spice!) and also a refreshing ginger beer to boot. The best deal is the strips, but can't blame anyone for getting the sandy. Do yourself a favor and ruin the rest of the worlds fried chicken by coming here and seeing what perfection is about. read more

The chicken sandwiches were the way to go! The drumsticks were ok...minute longer & they would have been to burnt. We especially enjoyed the daikon pickles. Unusual, but delicious. The tots were just tots as was the Mac n cheese. The sweet potato curry was delicious, but on the spicier side. The salad was nothing special. Didn't get to try the coleslaw, but will try the next time we visit. read more

This place puts Chick Fila to shame. The sandwich is awesome and comes on a Hawaiian bun which is really moist. Fresh crunchy vegetables and great aioli. The chicken itself is a nice size chicken breast. Be careful with the spice level. I love spicy but the medium is made with cayenne pepper, so it has a lot of kick to it. The macaroni n cheese was good. It was spiced well and the green onions added a nice touch. I would prefer a creamier cheese sauce on my macaroni. The tater tots is were pretty basic but crunchy. I order 3 of the 4 sauces. BBQ was good but needs more smoky flavor. Ranch definitely tasted homemade or at least well doctored with fresh dill. Honey mustard was my favorite and mainly because it wasn't as sweet as other honey mustards. I like the ratio of brown mustard to honey. It is located inside of a bar so they do not offer drinks, you have to order drinks from the bar which is a little inconvenient. Lots of room but I could see it being packed on a weekend. They're just a little stall in the corner of RGB, but almost everyone in the building was eating their food. The fried chicken sandwich was great, but hard to describe. The bread was soft and a tad sweet, (I think it was a Hawaiian roll). The chicken is a thick chunk of breaded and fried goodness with a crispy breading with a touch of tang, similar to Nashville hot chicken. The toppings included pickle, some mayo, and shredded lettuce. It was a bit overpriced at $11, but a good size for a meal. I had two sides: the tots were perfectly crispy, but the mac and cheese was a bit heavy and a little low on flavor. I would come back again, either for another sandwich or just for a piece of chicken. I want to try the potato salad with macaroni. read more

It's not the worst fried chicken I had, but not the best either. It's not too greasy, not too crispy, and kind of dry both on the outside and inside. They use white meat, which in itself is already pretty dry. Brining or marinating beforehand could've made it more tender and juicy. If spice level is more important to you than texture and flavor, then this will do just fine. Anyone can toss in a handful of chili - I was expecting something more. read more

One of the best places for a great fried chicken sandwich. I have been there several times and it's yummy! The chicken is crunchy and juicy. The chicken breast is generous. We go here pretty regularly. We usually don't have any issues, however, on 11/17/21, we ordered a mild chicken sandwich, mild chicken fingers with honey mustard, and fries. The chicken fingers we received were not mild, but hot, and the sauce was not honey mustard, but instead we received ranch. My girlfriend cannot handle spice very well, having the order being mixed up was pretty frustrating. When we arrived the temperature of the food was less than ideal. The portion of fries we received compared to what the portion they used to serve a year ago has decreased drastically, maybe 50-70% decrease in size. The sandwich was tasty, but the bun is always too small. By the time we got home, the bottom bun was so smushed and flat, it made it difficult to eat. Overall, disappointed. read more

During my search for a Howlin' Rays style spot in Seattle, this was the one place that kept getting brought up. Whomp! this place DID NOT get me howlin'! They got the SIZE of the chicken and the JUICINESS of the chicken right. But comparing it to Howlin's, it lacked flavor, spice, and balance. - Fried Chicken sandwich (hot: habanero) 3.5/5: hot was not "hot", more like "I'm heating up". They skimped on the sauce which was placed similar to how a McDonald's would place their sauce -- a puddle in the middle with nothing on the edges. - Pickled daikon 3/5: lots of potential as it can really neutralize the spices, but failed on two points: the daikon was cut into various thicknesses from less than 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch thick slices. They also left the tiny side roots, making it feel like pieces of hair were inside my mouth. Worth it? For $11 a sandwich, I would do it only because no one else is currently serving BIG pieces of JUICY and SPICY fried chicken in the Seattle region. I want to come back and try the hottest (ghost pepper) option ask for a heavier load of sauce, and keep the daikon on the side to ensure perfect, consistent bites. Was really disappointed in my meal especially after all of the great things I've heard about this spot! I placed my order online and was waiting by the front to immediately pick it up. Our sandwiches were cold and soggy but the fries were piping hot, I'm assuming the workers were waiting for the french fries to finish and left our sandwiches sitting out for too long. The bottom bun was completely soaked through and stuck & broke apart to the container when you tried to remove it. The chicken was nicely seasoned but so cold. So dissapointed. Sandwich- 5/10 seasoning was nice, I got a medium and it wasn't spicy at all. Kind of annoying that they charge you $1 for a side of ranch dressing Fries- 10/10 they were super tasty. Some convos to be had, but most of the cafe clientele were on their laptops or reading. Pastry case was well stocked with the wholesale variety from Macrina, plus the usual bevs and cafe fare.
