Finally got a chance to try this place and it did not disappoint! First off, cute and cozy inside, love all the trinkets around the place related to the Black experience and the Seattle area. Anyone that reads my reviews knows I Am an absolute chicken and waffles fanatic. This was the worst excuse of c&w. Portion in the pic looks normal, but it was a thinly sliced breast with breading you can taste for what the raw ingredients were. Old flour, some salting thing in there with a dab of southern wanna be flavoring. The waffle was mediocre at best. If there would have been flavor I can compare it by a long shot to the Waffle House. I've been here on two different Saturdays within the past year and walked away as a very happy man both times. Starting with the food, the shrimp and grits are creamy and packed with flavor, the eggs Benedict with bacon has perfectly poached eggs with a zippy crystal hollandaise, the waffle has a satisfying texture and comes with a comforting henny butter, and the best part that ties it all together: GARLIC. AIOLI. I have tasted many garlic aioli in my 28 years of life and this is by far the most delicious garlic aioli around. It's something I can't explain; you need to try it for yourself. With the breakfast potatoes, on the Benedict, in the shrimp and grits, by itself, I don't care, I just need it bottled up ASAP. As for the atmosphere, it's quite cozy and warm as a diner would be. I had to wait around 30 minutes both times I went because it was prime brunch time on Saturday and was fully worth the wait. The service is very welcoming and kind, and there's a good variety of sauces available on each table. They also serve Boon Boona coffee which is a Renton based coffee roaster, and I always love seeing local businesses support other local businesses. However the staff fixed the issue right away when she brought it up. They apologized & explained that it would take just a few minutes to fry up the new chicken because everything's cooked fresh. I got the honey butter chicken sandwich here after the meal, i have to say i have a pretty positive impression. this came as a fried chicken breast sandwiched between two large biscuits, both drenched in honey butter The biscuits were excellent for the most part - they were baked enough to be just slightly crunchy on the outside, but the inside was marvelous. It was crumbly, broke apart so easily, and tasted so soft. The biscuits were smothered with a honey butter mixture, that was very sweet. This was generally good, but I think there was too much honey, therefore the sweetness. I would've preferred a mixture that was mostly focused on butter with a little bit of honey. The sweetness tasted good at first, but towards the end it began to get a little tiring. The biscuits were so sticky it was impossible to eat this as a sandwich - you had to eat it with a fork and knife The chicken was quite good - especially when it came to the seasoning and how well it was breaded. The breading was a deep brown, which indicates how well it was fried. The seasoning was mildly spicy, and I wish it would've been slightly more so to counteract the flavor of the sweet biscuits, but not too many complaints there. I should also mention that I would've preferred thigh over breast when it came to the choice of meat, as while not overcooked, I can't say the inside was especially flavorful I also got the grits as a side - and they were pretty good. The only downside for the chicken and waffles was the waffle was kind of small and sad compared to some of the massive waffles I e seen elsewhere. But together it still tasted great. First time was on Sunday before a Seahawks game and the wait was too long for us to make it in time for the game. Took my wife back a week later during the week. Came here with a buddy who lives in the neighborhood. Tempted to stray from the titular menu item, I went with the Chicken & waffles - which has an option of fried chicken breast, thigh, or legs. Served with Henny Butter & syrup. I got the thigh. To start we shared a carafe of Mimosa which was nice. The waffle to be honest is similar to Roscoes which is thin style (Maybe a west coast thing?) waffle with lots of little ridges. I'm not particularly a fan but it pairs well with the chicken which on the other hand was delicious. I also got gravy, which is an extra $4 but was worth it. My buddy got the biscuit sandwich which got a thumbs up from him, though the biscuit looked a bit burnt to me. Service was prompt and friendly but not very engaging - I chalk it up to it being pretty busy. I got the last chicken breast for the day, so I was able to have a thigh for my second piece. The waffles were just all right though they were a little sweeter than I expected especially when adding the syrup. But the chicken was the real winner here; so delicious, so juicy and so crispy too! It was even steaming hot when the plate came to my table! Food here did take a while to come out though; I waited a solid 25 minutes even though the place wasn't particularly packed. Service was also a little sporadic, like when I asked for a to-go box but didn't get one and left it at that since I was in a rush to get to an event. Went in on 9/26/25 and 2 very nice ladies took care of us and everyone in the establishment. They were on top of it and always had a great attitude. I would go back for the just with the customer service alone. Now on to the food: my husband fell in love with the honey biscuit chicken sandwich and for him to keep talking about it really speaks volumes about how great it was. I was on the hunt to find the perfect place to take my husband for his birthday lunch. He had been craving fried fish and red beans and rice and so it seemed Fats Fried Chicken was the perfect choice. We were immediately greeted upon arrival and seated. We arrived a little after two and lucky for us we found out they had happy hour from 2-5. Sides were a discounted, happy hour food specials and they had a few drink specials. After we ordered our meal, we were moved to a bigger table to accommodate our food choices. We were originally seated at a two seat table and moved to a 4 seat table. I loved the assortment of hot sauces available. It's not something you typically see and I appreciated the endless options. When eating fried chicken and fried fish, it's always good to have your favorite hot sauce. The real winner was their homemade vinegar sauce. Red Beans and Rice 4/5 it was stacked full of flavor with was rich and thick. Once mixed with the rice, it was the perfect. The smokiness from the Hancock came through perfectly too. The real game changer for me was the pickled pork added in. It really balanced the dish, helping to break up the heaviness that red beans and rice can have. Because we ordered so much food, we had leftovers and the red beans and rice heated up nicely the day and it was even better. Naked chicken wings 5/5 Came out piping hot and for baked wings were delicious. They were seasoned with a house seasoning I believe and just plain old good. There was a slight batter on the wings too. Added a little extra crunch. Cornbread 10/5 it was insanely good. Drenched in a sweet butter sauce. And the cornbread itself very traditional. Not too heavy on the cake side which some people enjoy but I want the real deal. I'd order the cornbread by the dozen if I could. Fried Catfish 4/5 I loved it more my than my husband. He wanted a little more seasoning but I thought it was perfect since I add hot sauce anyways. It was coated and battered perfectly. The pieces were a nice size and hot and fresh. I'd definitely come back for their catfish too. Fried oyster sandwich 4/5 the oysters were big and plump and juicy on the sandwich. The bread was toasted and smeared with a tartar sauce. The tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. A solid sandwich. Mac and Cheese 3.5/5 it was good Mac and cheese with traditional macaroni. It was seasoned and cheesy and not oily at all. But for me, I felt it was good but didn't wow me or my husband in any way. Service 5/5 they were friendly and accommodating without being overbearing. We were able to enjoy our meal. The restaurant is small to medium size and if they get busy, I can see why there may be a small wait. They do have high top seating at the window. We can't wait to come back. I gotta get that chicken and biscuit sandwich next time. read more
