Went here on a Sunday for a late lunch with my girlfriend and loved the food and the atmosphere. Goshen, IN is a brilliant place for an Indian restaurant. They have a large assortment of Curries and a special plate that allows you to keep your foods separate which is ideal for customers to try new food independently of other foods. To the owner. I stopped in for dinner while in town on business and the food exceeded my (high) expectations. I had the paneer makhani with garlic naan and both were excellent. The mango lassi was also great. The portions were filling and the food had wonderfully fresh and rich flavor. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was attractive and very clean. It's located in a historic building in downtown Goshen, with lots of local shops and other restaurants within walking distance. They have a sidewalk cafe and lots of vegetarian options. We were pleasantly surprised to happen upon Maple Indian Cuisine while in Goshen. We stopped for lunch and enjoyed every part of our meal - the crispy cauliflower was out of this world, chili paneer was fabulous, the chicken vindaloo was amazing, and the vegetable jal fraizie was to die for. Second Time here. Last time was the lunch buffet and it was fantastic. The staff was like our culinary tour guide leading us to all the goodies they had to offer. Tonight also did not disappoint! Every time we have supper here I leave feeling two things: amazed at the DELICIOUS and high-quality dishes they consistently serve and impressed with how nice the management and staff are! We were excited about finding an Indian restaurant in Michiana. We were less excited about the restaurant itself. We were impressed by the extensive menu posted online and also given to us when we were seated. We ordered the vegetarian appetizer platter, the Paneer Tandoori, and a chicken dish from the Tandoori list. The vegetarian appetizer platter did not materialize. We got an order of naan instead. Wine and beer are not available, so we had water and a "salty lassi," which tasted like very salty buttermilk. Paneer Tandoori is not often on menus and the paneer itself was delicious. Likewise the chicken, which had a bright green coating of cilantro and ground spices. The accompanying vegetables, however, were identical. They also looked and tasted like they came from a bag of frozen vegetables, with crinkle cut carrots and potatoes with some added spices. Service was OK, except for getting the appetizer order wrong. Hands down the worst Indian food in the Michiana area. Their buffet has none of the staples you'd expect or want (no palak or Saag paneer, no samosa, no tikka masala, etc). Buffet food was over cooked and warm-ish, and we were only given 3 small pieces of naan bread for three people. The food that was there was terrible (how do you ruin kheer? Pakora was so over cooked it could break a tooth!). Definitely go elsewhere if you need to eat in Goshen, or make the trek to Mishawaka or South Bend if you want Indian food. read more

I LOVE Indian food and have had the privilege of eating it in many different states and even several different countries. A solid 3 for the food itself - was decent enough, not the best, but not the worst either! The disappointment in my review comes from my first time eating here....we got the lunch buffet (as most probably do when dining during the appropriate hours), after looking over the menu, we let the waiter know we'd like to do the buffet, but being a huge fan of samosas I decided to order some them too! About 2 minutes later when I'd made my way up to the buffet I noticed samosas were one of the choices....worse yet I literally saw the cook walk out with a plate and grab samosas off the buffet before bringing them to our table several minutes later. Why were we not informed of this upon placing our food order.....and even after politely bringing it to their attention they ultimately and extremely rudely REFUSED to take the charges off for serving the exact same samosas that had been sitting on the buffet!!!!! The poor waitress let us know the owners refused to discount the bill despite the situation and said they were going to make her pay for it out of her own pocket! What a pathetic tactic to make an extra few dollars.....makes me worry what other health violations etc this place is willing to compromise just to save a few bucks :/ It's worth a try, especially since this type of food is hard to find in Northern Indiana, but check the buffet offerings before you order anything ala carte since they clearly will not tell you what is already available.... read more

Disclaimer: I have not tried the buffet which seems to be what everyone is raving about, so my rating is only based on one visit during the evening hours. I understand that after one visit, it is really hard to truly judge a place...but not sure I even want to give this place a second chance. I might have been able to look past one of the worst service I have ever experience had the food been amazing..but since the food my wife and I had was less than mediocre and overpriced, I have no choice but to give it a one star. I hate when people give places bad reviews, but give no reasons...so here are my reasons for a one star review: Service: They had two people in the restaurant. One hostess, and one "server". The server seemed distracted and was not paying attention to her tables. I understand that there were more tables than what she could handle, but that reflect more on the restaurants lack of preparation. She came to our table to take our order, and while I was telling her what I wanted, she was looking at another table not paying attention to me at all. She then finally realized I was ordering and then it took her a couple of seconds to flip her pad to a blank page and asked me to repeat my order so she could write it down. Then she did the exact same thing when my wife ordered. After about 40 minutes of waiting, she showed back up to our table with the wrong order. She then took the plates to another table and we proceeded to wait again. This happened to the table next to us a well, they were given the wrong food. I counted at least 6 tables who had arrived after us who got their food ahead of us. My guess is that she forgot to put our order in. I also asked for a refill on my soft drink towards the end of my meal which I never received. Food: In my opinion, it is very overpriced. The $14-$16 per plate is not unreasonable for Indian food, but for what we got, way overpriced. I got the Butter Chicken and my wife got the Lamb Kebab. Once our food finally arrived after waiting about 45 minutes to an hour, my bowl of butter chicken was semi-cold and the rice was extremely cold. My wife's lamb kebab was dry, cold, and the onions were not cooked. The menu also said all entrees are served with rice, but I guess that doesn't include the kebab since we only received one bowl of cold rice for our two entrees. The portions were smaller than what I expected for the price. My chicken had pieces of cartilage in it. The flavor of the chicken was very good, but too many other things that took away from the overall taste of the food. Other: There was a kid running around the kitchen. At one point in time the server left right in the middle of taking another table's order when she was brought what I am guessing was her son. Didn't happen to me, but kind of rude in my opinion. Also, there are these dipping sauces that are served with some flat bread at the beginning of the meal. There are no spoons or plates to put this sauce on the bread, so one must dip their "bread" into these sauces. Little did I know until after we ate the sauces that they just rotates these between tables which really grossed me out to think about how many people "double-dipped" their bread or whatever else they were eating before it got to us. I had assumed that they gave fresh sauces to each table, but was sadly mistaken when the server took our sauces and set them on a table next to us that had just arrived. Overall: One out of two entrees was tasty, but in my opinion, not worth the $40 we spent on this "experience". I left this place not only still hungry, but not happy with the evening my wife and I had. We were hopping for a nice time together, but instead we both left Maple Indian Cuisine with a bad taste in our mouths. I really hope this place improves since Goshen needs more than just Mexican and American restaurants, but I don't think we will be returning to eat here anytime soon... read more

Goshen has three main kinds of food: Mexican, American/Mennonite/Amish/diner, and Other Ethnic Food Often Done Poorly (I'm looking at you, Memories of China). Well, now we can add Maple Indian Cuisine to the list under Other Ethnic Food Done Well because it is a very welcome and tasty addition to Main St. I came with my mom and her husband for dinner during First Fridays, so it was busy and they were primarily offering a buffet. It was also their one year anniversary so they were giving out free mango lassi. Yay mango lassi. Anyway - the buffet had a decent variety on it and they were definitely keeping things hot and fresh. Naan was brought out separately to each table and it was also hot and fresh. I did initially think the food I tried was a bit on the bland side - no zip to the chicken tikka - but then I discovered the hot sauce and various chutneys and achari and that added some great flavor. I'd like to come back some time for a bit more relaxed dinner off the menu, but I was definitely pleased with what I had and glad that Goshen has more diversity in its dining options! read more

I'd been brought up to Goshen to do a comedy show (something I never thought I'd find myself saying!!), and friends in the area suggested that we all meet for dinner here before the show. It's a quite large restaurant, decorated nicely, and both the dining room and the restrooms were spotlessly clean. The service was good, our drinks were kept topped off, and the menu is quite large. If you're unfamiliar with Indian food, the servers are quite familiar with the menu, and do a good job of explaining the various dishes. (One member of our party had never had Indian food before). I'm fairly new to the Indian food scene...,my wife introduced me to it 3 or 4 years ago. Since that time, I've eaten at quite a few Indian places and developed quite a fondness for this type of food. When ordering, the server asked if I'd like my food mild, medium or spicy, a VERY nice touch. I've quite the fondness for spicy food, so I chose spicy. Unfortunately, I'd classify it as mild. We found ourselves in Goshen this past weekend. Bonus - we have good friends in the area, and asked them if they'd like to join us for dinner at a place of their choosing, since we were unfamiliar with the local offerings. That's what led us to Maple. Our friends dine there often - in fact, the servers knew our friends well. Rick and I love Indian food, so we were excited to try a new place. When we arrived, we walked in and were promptly seated. The first thing I noticed is that it was rather dark inside the restaurant. The decor (as far as I could tell) was kept simple and unobtrusive. We were hoping for the buffet, but found out quickly that they do not offer the buffet on Saturday evenings. So we had to order off the menu. We were familiar enough with the cuisine that we were able to navigate and find something we wanted, but again, it was quite dark and the menu was extremely difficult to read. We ordered naan to share. I wanted garlic naan, but I did not see it on the menu, so I got regular naan, thinking that was the only option they had. For my entrée I chose Yellow Dal, which is yellow lentils and vegetables in a curry. It was very good. For dessert, they offered everyone complimentary rice pudding, which was a nice touch. I, however, wanted to try Maple's version of a classic Indian dessert that we've had at our favorite Indian restaurant in Indianapolis. I didn't know what it was called, so I was describing what they were to our server and what she was describing to me..."sweet dough balls"...sounded like what I had eaten before, so I said that's it, and ordered them. So we waited...and waited...and waited. Finally, the server brought out the dessert, and it was nothing like what I was expecting. I was surprised, but not angry - except a little frustrated for such a long wait for a dish I didn't recognize...but I was willing to keep it and try it, because by this time, we needed to leave so we wouldn't be late for our prior engagement. So the server asked me, "Is this not what you were expecting?" I said, "No, but I'll keep it." And our server firmly insisted on taking it back and getting what I wanted. I commented that we didn't really have time to wait again, and that I'd be happy with what she brought me, and she said, kind of flippantly, that the other dessert was already made in the kitchen and ready to serve up, and was again, firmly insistent on taking back what she brought (which she also firmly insisted that it was what I asked for) and she...angrily...returned to the kitchen. Now...I don't know about you, but being in customer service all of my life, a little bit of "The Customer Is Always Right" would have served her well here. I wasn't at all combative, and she was being downright unpleasant in changing out what I ordered for what I was expecting. So after another relatively long wait (even though she said it was ready to be served up) the server came back with what I had originally ordered - it's called Gulab Jamun, by the way. And in a final presentation of her displeasure, she said something to the tune of - this is what you thought you ordered, not what you said you wanted in the first place, which I already brought back to you, but you decided to return. *sigh* SO...all that being said, I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again, but if my friends wanted to return for a meal some time, I would go, and hopefully get a more service-oriented server. read more

We had been to this restaurant for buffet before. They had more veggie options and very average tasting chicken dishes. Disappointed we returned back. Today we returned for dinner hoping it will be better. Unfortunately it was worse than last time. I ordered chicken 65 appetizer and butter chicken with garlic naan for main course. The chicken 65 was the worst dish ever. They took some stale tandoori chicken from lunch and poured some sauce over it. It was so stale that i lost my appetite after tasting it. This dish is supposed to be fried and dry. They didn't even know how to make this dish and I guess they hoped the customers don't know either. In addition this dish was $9 with only 8-9 tiny pieces which was ludicrous. Coming to think of it it's a good thing it only had 9 pieces. No one could have eaten any more of that. Then I got my garlic naan but the butter chicken didn't come with it. And my naan was sitting on the table getting cold and dry. 10 mins later the butter chicken arrived. By this time the naan was super cold that I had to break it like bricks. The butter chicken was alright. Not bad. But it wasn't outstanding either. Overall I will not be visiting this restaurant again. Very disappointed with it. Buffet was one of the best Indian buffets I have had and it was not the largest. Just enough variety so that everything was done well. A large bowl of salad, cold and fresh.
