The staff is super helpful, and the store stocks tons of items. Shopping here is a little more expensive than the "big box" stores, but you don't have to hunt down someone in the "right department" to help answer questions. In my latest visit a gentleman in plumbing spent almost 30-minutes helping me all for a $10 part. That's kind of amazing. read more

For years, I used to go to Home Depot for everything hardware. But I got sick of the lack of service and the difficulty in finding what I needed. When I moved into the Greenlake area, I started going to the Maple Leaf Ace Hardware and now I rarely go to the big HD. Ace has this amazing ability to always have what I need, all squeezed into a small footprint. And they always have tons of eager staff ready to assist. I've probably spent several $k there, albeit $7 at a time! My only complaint (and the reason for four rather than five) is that I DONT want to be asked if I have an Ace rewards card by the cashier anymore! read more

My luck here ran out I guess. The last three visits, I was assisted by those young summer break kids who reek of "my mom does all my laundry," and "I really don't know what a Spigot is." Today, I just wanted to get in and get out--sure enough I run into another "kid" who gives me a sideways glance, no "hello." I run into the kid again and he says in a lackluster tone, "did you find what you were looking for." I then respond "yes, thanks very..." and he cuts me off by addressing another customer. This is my neighborhood hardware store and after 15 years of getting simply outstanding service I finally got off my duff and am writing a review to sing the praises of this great place. First of all what makes them different from ANYWHERE else is that they have plenty of experienced, knowledgeable and friendly staff literally lined up to assist with any project question. They are unrelentingly patient and helpful as I explain the zillion kinds of household projects I need help with: cutting glass for frames, finding a way to repair roof gutters, making duplicate keys, getting just the right paint for my metal garden furniture, fixing the flap in my toilet, finding the right glue to repair a broken ceramic device, building a window frame, etc. Since there are so many staff you never have to wait to try to locate your item on your own, and then when you want to check out they always have plenty of cashiers so you don't wait more than seconds before you're finished. After visiting another hardware store because I was in that neighborhood, a much larger one, I stood around waiting for 15 minutes trying to find someone to help me and just gave up and drove the extra time to this simply wonderful place that I have taken for granted all these years. John, Giuseppe and Brian made my day today. After visiting other hardware stores, not finding what I needed, and not finding helpful people, walking into Ace Hardware was such a relief. The team there welcomed me immediately, they offered to help me, and everybody seems like an expert showing me exactly the items I needed for my project. Fantastic experience, welcoming and helpful. I just needed some screws and anchors to put up a wall shelf. The gentleman that helped me was knowledgeable and asked about what kind of wall, shelf and how much weight it would support, then advised me of my options and what would be best to use. Absolutely my favorite hardware store. I drive across town to get to it. The staff are fantastic. There are lots of them, and they are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and there is always someone available when you walk in the door. I am not usually a fan of hardware stores, but this one...I loooove. You know how, in movies, they always have these small town hardware stores where the staff are all friendly and moms and pops-y? This hardware store is totally like that. I especially love how they don't hover, but they are always available to take time to help you find what you need and to answer your questions. They are also all about helping you find parts to fix things, rather than just selling you a whole new something (I'm looking at you, Home Depot). read more

We like to shop local in general and at Maple Leaf Hardware in particular whenever we need yard/house stuff. This morning, however, because we needed some groceries too, we went to Fred Meyer. My husband was looking for a housewares syringe thingie to inject liquid into meat and I was wanting to get supplies for a wood refinishing project. At Freddie's it was difficult to find someone in the paint department and when I did, I (having watched a YouTube video about refinishing furniture) knew more than the clerk knew about what I needed. Also, they didn't have the syringe that my husband was looking for. We ended up going to Maple Leaf Hardware for my refinishing supplies and guess what? they also had the syringe! Also, I was guided through the process by a knowledgeable associate! Not only of I feel good shopping here, the service is unsurpassed. They have earned our loyalty! I encourage everyone in the north end to shop here for all of your hardware needs! read more

I have lived in Maple Leaf now for 5 years and every single time I have gone into the Ace on Roosevelt, I have received the BEST customer service ever. No one is snooty or "bothered" by your questions. It truly has a neighborhoody vibe. I got a free quart of paint yesterday because they were having a Clark and Kensington paint promotion. They were so helpful, friendly and patient. I was in there about an hour before closing too. My husband has sent me to Maple Leaf Ace for some parts before when we were making a treehouse. I was scared of feeling intimidated when I went in there because I dont know jack about building things...they were really helpful and didnt treat me like I was an idiot like some hardware places do...way to go ACE! You guys are really the best in the area and people in Seattle are starting to come to Maple Leaf just for the experience. Remember the slogan..."Ace is the Place with the Helpful Hardware Man"...This is so true, but now there are lots of hardware ladies that help u too!! FABULOUS!! read more

Once again, the Maple Leaf hardware team is so helpful. This time they taught me to replace a faulty light socket in my floor lamp. I was going to take it to a lamp repair shop for many dollars. My 70 year old friend told me I should do it myself. (She learned in 8th grade home skills classes.) I knew going to ACE would be the right choice. Great Hardware store. I have found things here that I was unable to find at Lowes and I don't like Home Depot. Staff let you know they are there and will guide you to whatever you are looking for, but they are not over bearing. Every time I go there I get what I need and something that I may not need but hey I'm there already so what the heck. I can always find something fun to buy. For someone who doesn't have the knack to do home repair projects, I have to say that for YEARS Maple Leaf ACE Hardware has been and continues to be one of my favorite go to places to shop for kitchen, gardening, general household needs etc. Yes ACE Maple Leaf has the feel of a friendly neighborhood "anything you might need" to purchase-- store, however it is the employees that bring me back time and time again. They consistently make me feel recognized and welcome, they are knowledgeable, genuinely want to help you find want you need and frankly do a great job at all the above. Recently, John and Josh went above and beyond the norm when in separate situations each man helped me with a couple of repair projects. They were patient with my questions, made suggestions and when all seemed hopeless on my part, John and then on another day Josh, made my day and saved the two steps of my special project. And they did this with so much charm and saving grace for me. HA!!! Thank you guys--you're the best!!! i've only been here a few times, but was reminded how fantastic this place is when i went in just this past week for a new hose-attachment to water my lawn. there was a gentleman just inside the door, i think waiting to help people as they came in, and he immediately asked if i needed help (i generally always need help when i'm at a hardware store), directed and walked me to where i needed to go, and helped me decide which item was best suited for my needs. i wish i had caught is name so i could give him a proper "thumbs up" for his friendly-helpfulness. the store is also very attractive (odd to say for a hardware store, perhaps), being clean and well organized. oh! and how great is it that they have their own parking lot!! always a bonus. read more

You'll pay more here that at Home Depot, but the staff is incredibly helpful. When I was remodeling my kitchen I ran into a problem with the plumbing drain for the sink going into the wall too high up (water doesn't flow uphill unfortunately). A guy at Ace walked me trough the steps to stop being a plumbing wimp, cut out the 80 year old pipe, and replace it with a new lower one. He got me all the parts I needed too. I'm a big fan of this place, even though there is another Ace closer to my home. I got to know them when I lived in Maple Leaf and I still drive over there because of one thing: the combination of selection and staff. These guys have virtually everything a homeowner or small businessman needs plus they have well trained staff in constant (radio) communication with each other so they can find anything in less than 60 seconds. If you need a huge load of lumber or tons of cement, this is not the place (they have some, just not lots), but if you need two screws, or a power tool, or computer-specced paint or asphalt bags or -- well, they've always had everything I wanted. They are easily the best hardware location east of I-5. Plus, for my wife (I'm a typical guy) if she has a job she wants to do, they guys there give her directions & the goods. She lived in the hood when she was single and they carried her for years! Great place. read more
