Dr's Karen Hofmann & Julia McNeal and the rest of the staff at Maple Leaf Pet Corner are by far the most caring and compassionate group I have found for a veterinarian. They are excellent with animals; gentle, patient, sympathetic, taking the time the animal needs to be comfortable. My dog is my family and they treat him that way without judgement. They are thorough, comfort the animals sincerely, and are careful to ensure my comfort as well. Whether a routine check-up or an urgent need they are flexible in getting your pet in, willing to work with you on payment, which can be a challenge at any other vet. They are caring and show true concern about your pets needs. Routine vaccinations and other needs are not forgotten as they send out reminders, call to remind of appointments, and call to check on your pet after a procedure. I will soon be living in West Seattle where there are numerous vets, but will continue to make the trek to Lake City to retain them as my baby's vet. That is how impressive they are. Dr. Hoffman is the best veterinarian I have met and I have been to multiple over the past 25 years throughout different parts of the country. I haven't experienced any of the administrative challenges some other reviewers have had - I have often gotten same day appointments with excellent veteraniary care every time. Dr. Hofmann is great. She loves animals and it shows, I loved her. I did not like the dental service they use. First of all, I scheduled my appointment for my dog to get his teeth cleaned a month in advance. They called me the day before to confirm the appointment. The day of the appointment they called and left messages telling me that they had 2 techs and one was going home and asked if I could come in earlier. Then I received a rude email saying I need to come in earlier or they are canceling my appointment. I could not call them back or respond to the email because I was at work and I didn't check my messages until I was on my way to the appointment. Then I get another message saying they canceled my appointment because "I didn't call them back." Well, I was at work and had confirmed the night before so how is it my fault that their tech wanted to go home early?? After this mess I emailed Dr. Hofmann and let her know what had happened. She apologized and said that I could come in the month after and they would comp the service. Well, I go back the month after and the tech does absolutely NOTHING. She came back with my dog 5mins into the appointment and tells me my dogs jaw is broken and they don't have time for xrays. Then the front office happily says to me, "no charge today." Charge for what exactly?? I then go to an ER clinic for my dog and it turns out that my dogs jaw is JUST FINE. I feel that the tech didn't want to clean my dogs teeth, just like the time before. I'm beyond frustrated with that service. I now go to Companion Vet in Wallingford and have not been disappointed with the service there AT ALL. It's unfortunate because I really do like Dr. Hofmann, but that was experience killed it for me. read more

We adopted our kittens and continued their care here. Everyone in this clinic is wonderful. One of our cats came down with an awful ear infection. Dr. Peterson took such good care of him during this challenging illness, treating him with multiple meds to keep him comfortable and make sure he got better. We took our new puppy to this clinic over the Summer for an adoption check up and did not have a very good experience. I was surprised because there seem to be many 5 star reviews (why we took him here in the first place). I believe we saw Dr. McNeal, and she seemed nice enough but was very pushy about putting our new pup on ongoing flea meds (not tolerated well by his breed, which she apparently had no idea about) and also did not understand our hesitation about some optional immunizations (also particular shots not tolerated by his breed). When we asked about her knowledge of holistic vet medicine, she was totally in the dark. We wanted to find a vet that wasn't just going to medicate at every turn, but would try the most natural and least harmful methods of treatment first, when possible, and then move to the western stuff if that didn't work. This is not the place to go if you like that idea. If your dog is a hearty breed and doesn't have many problems, I think this place would be fine. For brachycephalic breeds, I would not recommend taking your pup to this place. Find a vet that is knowledgeable about your breed and willing to listen to your concerns. read more

I have been taking my three dogs to Maple Leaf Pet Corner for years. Both routine pet care and major surgery . The staff is great and doctors are amazing .Dr. Hoffman always takes her time with our dogs and they love her. She also takes time to get to know her fur patients and their owners . They treat us like family. I just recently had to reschedule a spay for my Mastiff ( not a quick appointment) 3 times at the last minute. Annoying , I know ! They misdiagnosed my cat. My cat was not eating or drinking and was extremely lethargic. The vet did a blood test and said that he had a hyperthyroid and wanted to treat him accordingly. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are the complete opposite of what my cat was presenting. This was not the first time that I left feeling like "they don't know what they're doing". read more

I followed Dr. Heidi Miller from Edmonds Vet Hospital. She's so friendly, casual, and jokey that you forget she's a medically trained professional imparting expert information. She never skimps on time taken to explain what's going on, always calls to check in the following day after a procedure, and both she and the MLPC staff take wonderful care of my dog (you can tell a lot about a vet office by the way your dog approaches the front door...while not thrilled, mine never hesitates and walks right in). It's spendy, yep, but worth it to me...I also never feel I'm getting sold an unnecessary procedure or medication for my dog. Tia is in kind, expert hands. read more

Dr. Karen is the vet that I have had care for my kitties for the last few years. When I knew that I would be losing my older cat to Kidney failure they gave me a kitten that Abby one of the assistants had been fostering. Absolutely love this place!! Brought my cat Mitts in for an eye infection. I was so worried about him. They were wonderful with him. The vet and her assistant were compassionate,kind and caring towards my baby. Mitts was very comfortable there. It's cozy and inviting for the animals. They answered all my questions and I didn't feel rushed or unimportant as I have with other vets. As soon as we left Mitts was in better spirits and his eyes were looking better already!! My husband and I take our ChiPin here and we love this place. We found them on Yelp and while they aren't in our neighborhood they are worth the 15 drive. They always take such good care of our fur baby, even offering to clip her nails during her appointments since she doesn't like them being clipped. When she ate 5oz of chocolate they took her right away and gave her meds as well as activated charcoal to soak up the toxins from the chocolate. We couldn't love this place more and our pup even loves going which is an extra bonus:) read more

GREAT experience today! 9 yr old cat who had 24-36 hrs of not eating, lethargic, depressed, not able to swallow, no sign of foreign object but coughing/choking - decided to take him straight in without waiting to figure anything else out. New to Seattle, used online reviews to find the best local vet, and trusted in Yelp reviews. BRAVO - found an excellent vet and staff who was caring, passionate about their work, thorough, got straight to the problem, very sensitive about costs and budgets, and VOILA - healthy, happy cat 12 hours later. We took our cats to the Maple Leaf Pet Corner for many years. We mostly saw Dr. Neal (who has since left to work at another vet clinic) and were very pleased. On occasion we saw Dr. Hofmann and more recently Dr. Miller. Both were fine. We especially appreciated Rita, the clinic receptionist (very friendly and helpful) and Jordan, one of the assistants, who actually helped us with one of our ill kitties at our home. He has a very gentle way with animals. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with Dr. Hofmann, which led us to find another clinic. Dr. Hofmann goes to people's homes to euthanize their pets. She came to our home quite a while ago to euthanize Sophie, a 19-year-old tabby, who just seemed tired of living and ready to die. Things went very smoothly. Last October we asked Dr. Hofmann to come to our home to euthanize our cat, BK, who was dying from kidney disease. Needless to say we were quite anxious and sad but knew it was time. Our appointment was for 6:00 PM. We gave a lot of loving attention to BK and even let him chew on some leaves that he loved. We played with him on our bed. Well, by 6:15 Dr. Hofmann had not appeared and there was no call to say she was running late. We tried not to get upset because we did not want to upset BK. We thought maybe she finished up late with a patient. 6:30, 6:45. Still no Dr. Hofmann. We tried calling the office but got a voice mail message since it closes at 6:00. Finally right before 7:00 I jumped in my car and frantically drove to the office, which is about 10 minutes away. The lights were on so I knocked (loudly I must admit) on the door. It was opened by one of the assistants who was there with Dr. Hofmann. Dr. Hofmann offered no apology or explanation and said she was closing up and would be at our house in about 10 minutes. My husband and I were very upset by this time and discussed canceling but felt it was not fair to BK. Dr. Hofmann arrived and shortly administered the first of two shots, which in my understanding sedates the cat before the shot that brings death. Our cat had a VERY bad reaction to the 1st shot, jumped up yowling in pain, and started to run to his cat tree in our dining room, where he collapsed. My husband carried him back to the bedroom. The second shot was administered but we sensed his terror, which we found very upsetting and to this day we have not quite recovered from the image. We had diligently prepared and hoped for a gentle death. Subsequently I wrote Dr. Hofmann a letter about our concerns and dismay to which she never responded. read more

Dr. Karen Hoffman is hands-down the kindest, most adept, warm, gentle, caring and loving veterinarian I have ever met. Her competency and confidence are beyond compare. The time she takes and genuine interest in your pets is unbelievable. She is equally as wonderful with our 2 cats as she is with our Great Dane. But it doesn't stop there... she has surrounded herself with a staff of kind and helpful people who love animals. From Rita at the front desk to the vet techs and all the other staff, it's a good experience. I routinely receive phone calls the day after we've been in to check in on our animals, just to see how they are doing. The office environment feels good - like the people that work there actually like each other and their jobs. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Hoffman! read more

I have rescued the mascot cat for this vet office twice; Both times the cat was running towards the traffic on Lake City Way. Recently I helped to catch and return 2 baby sheep the clinic had in their back yard area. The sheep got out because the clinic doesn't have a proper fence. I have called the clinic to talk with them about the care of their animals and my concern for their safety and when I mention that they need to get a proper fence I get brushed off and told that the sheep are only there temporarily. A vet that is as lax as this place is with respect to the pets in residence is not a vet I would choose for my animals. The cat I referred to earlier in my accounting is now missing. read more

She succeeded in diagnosing my foster Schnauzer as having sarcoptic mange when several other vets for the past year had misdiagnosed and mistreated. I followed Dr. Karen over to Maple Leaf Pet Corner from Phinney Ridge and have been bringing my pets and referring others ever since. Recently during a massive bug infestation at my apartment complex I was overwhelmed by the kindness of Dr. Julia and all the staff in helping with transporting my cats and myself, making them comfortable while boarding even though we were all stressed to the max. I also love that 4 years ago when it was finally ready to have another dog, Dr. Karen matched me up with the perfect best friend while doing some discounted spays and neuters for a local rescue. Cost does appear high, but is comparable to the area. At times I do have to seek treatment for my pets for routine work at other clinics as I live on disability. I would encourage MLPC to offer a senior discount, many Vet clinics now do that in the area and I do take advantage of this as it is extended to the disabled living on social security as well. The clinic itself is warm and inviting and there are always animals running about. Buzz, the clinic dog works the door and if you have treats in your pocket he will find them. Clinic Cats are always ready to be petted. I love that when I'm there and worrying I was handed some kittens to cuddle as a distraction. Perfect. Test results are prompt and calls are made quickly - all questions answered. If you want a Vet who really cares about you and your pet, this is the place. If you tell them up front that money is tight, they will work with you. Don't be afraid to let them know. They will do only the tests that are absolutely necessary. read more

They gave us their only available spot and were so lovely, patient, knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. I met them upon helping my first dog after a senior accident and they were kind enough to refer me to a specialist place when my dog needed more serious care. I unfortunately lost that dog shortly after and they were still so comforting and kind. Both my boys did and now only one adore Dr. Julie and melt like putty in her hands. today i Visit Dr. Karen again for my puppy's Giardia Vaccine, she is still professional again, and still use trick to give my Domino a shot, Domino didn't know he get a Vaccine, very happy to see it again, because i don't want to see my puppy crying, and the assitant is very friendly also, and of course, Domino played with " BUZZ " again, BUZZ is still very friendly dog, Domino try to kiss him, BUZZ didn't attack him, and Dr. Karen told me to let Domino play with her 2 kitty & BUZZ without leash, and they are good, because all the " Maple Leaf Pet Corner " are friendly and professional, again, ask Dr. Karen's help, ur animals will get real help. After writing a brief glowing review on Google reviews about a year ago, I feel I must write another review on Yelp to continue to convey how absolutely incredible Dr. Karen and her team is. We moved over to MLPC just over a year ago after a bad experience with another vet in the vicinity. I was immediately impressed that Dr Karen talked with me at length on the phone about the care of our dog i.e. home feeding. Our initial experiences were all beyond excellent. The surgery is so laid back, and our dog LOVES going here! She loves Buzz and of course the cats.. At Christmas we wanted to take our dog into the State of Hawaii (who have a 3 page checklist of all the things you need to do) - Karen and the team took complete care of everything, no charge for any of the organizational stuff, just part of the care package. They just wanted us to all have a lovely time in Hawaii for Christmas - so kind. We recently needed to take our dog back to them for a second operation. I already had complete confidence in the team and yet they still managed to bring tears to my eyes with their endless generosity, care and compassion for both myself, my husband and our dog. Karen even popped over to our house on her way home the evening after the surgery to help us with a little issue we had. How rare to find someone that cares THIS MUCH. Our dog is of course healthy and happy and recovering well now. To put it simply, these guys are so far beyond an average vet, that I would wager this is probably THE best vet team in Seattle.
