AVOID THIS CLINIC The Incompetence was Astounding I arrived just one minute past their "10-minute grace period", which I was not made aware of. It was not verbally stated to me, it is no where on their website, nor is this "10-minute grace period" mentioned in the appointment confirmation text. They turned me away without any consideration for the urgency of the situation. I explained that my dog had been having diarrhea for a week and stopped eating. Despite being visibly distressed and practically in tears, all they could offer was a pack of OTC probiotics -- something I had already tried. As a dentist, I cannot comprehend turning away an emergency patient for being one minute past a "grace period". To make matters worse, they referred me to another clinic that closed in 15 minutes -- showing a complete lack of awareness or coordination. I was left scrambling. The staff's overall demeanor was incredibly frustrating. There was no sense of urgency or can do spirit. I was eventually seen by a third clinic, Urban Vet, who was responsive and genuinely committed to helping. They were doing all they could to help, which was the complete opposite feeling I got at Maple leaf. I would strongly recommend Urban instead to anyone looking for a vet that actually shows up for you and your pet in a time of need. God forbid your pet is sick and Maple leaf is their life line.... ---------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: The Incompetence Continues My response to the hospital manager: I called the clinic (see photo), 2 days prior to the scheduled appointment to ask if I could be seen sooner to address urgent symptoms. You stated, she could be seen by your clinic at her upcoming appointment to address these symptoms. This phone call should have been documented in the chart notes. As you know, this is a liability to not have documentation. Your response has revealed further disorganization of the clinic and its auxiliary. So in conclusion, the clinic was clearly made aware of my dog's urgent needs prior to my appointment and when I arrived. And they did not care. I felt 100% confident in the skill and judgment of every doctor we saw, and he got a warm reception and compassion from everyone in the office. As his health started declining near the end, we were in here a lot, but no one pushed me to do anything excessive. They just helped me keep him comfortable and as healthy as possible under the circumstances. When it came time to say goodbye after almost 16 years with our sweet boy, Dr Shini came to our home and was exactly the presence we needed: a calm and caring guide. It was such a heartbreaking day, one I'll never forget, but I am so grateful to Dr Shini for helping us through it. After visiting a few different clinics in the Seattle area, this veterinary care center has by far been our favorite. The whole team is very attentive and kind, and you get a sense that they actually care about your pet vs. visits feeling merely transactional. Some reviews have read that they're very money-oriented or will try to squeeze every penny out of you, but I personally haven't experienced anything like that after being a client for almost two years now (8 visits total for 2 pets). I recently brought my cat in less than a month after her annual exam and they only charged half price for a "brief visit" which was a pleasant surprise. From my past experiences, exams have always been one flat charge. They do mark up their Rx medications quite a bit, but my understanding is that's just industry-standard, especially coming from an independent/standalone practice. It's unrealistic to expect them to be able to compete with Chewy, Costco, etc. And they've always given me the prescription to take elsewhere when I asked and never made me go directly through them for the meds. Service and communication has also never been a problem. I've emailed them and called over the phone and every experience has been perfect. Another thing I appreciated about this place is how seriously they took COVID precautions. Even now, patients are asked to stay in their car if it's just a technician visit, and masks are still required for those who come inside. Not only are they cautious, but they did a really great job at streamlining the process so that it's easy to follow and efficient. Bonus: they mailed us a cute little welcome package after our first visit! Before Maple Leaf we were in California and loved our vet there so much, we didn't think we'd find a new vet that would compare, but we were wrong. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a routine procedure turned into a distressing incident for my dog. The shaving process carried out for the ultrasound resulted in severe clipper burns and cuts all over her belly and sides. After done the ultrasound, my husband picked her up in a rush and went back to work, he didn't notice anything wrong. Neither the technicians nor the doctor informed my husband about this serious issue when he picked her up. It wasn't until I returned home from work at 6:00 PM that I noticed that all the fresh wounds.... Seeking resolution and an apology, I reached out to the clinic, only to find the situation handled in a disappointing manner. the doctor just complained about the clippers...When I expressed my desire for the staff responsible for the incident to make an apology, I was met with a lack of understanding and empathy at the front desk. The response I received was disheartening, as I was told that the only apology note available was from the doctor who was not directly involved in this incident. As a pet owner who deeply cares for the well being of my furry companion, I find it incredibly disappointing that this clinic failed to take responsibility for the actions of their staff and provide a proper apology. We never had any problems here, just six years of good experiences, until near our last appointment, when extra tests were ordered at the site of a vaccination after it had failed to heal and was causing her pain. When I called the business to question having to pay for extra tests at the site of a vaccination they had given, they took full responsibility. The vaccination had been in her shoulder blade rather than a hind leg, per their usual protocol, which caused some confusion on their end, but they offered to cover the follow up appointment and testing. Businesses are like humans: we make mistakes. The fact that they addressed the situation, restored my confidence. If you come here you will get good care, but if anything does come up, they are willing to hear your concerns, take action and make adjustments. That's worth a lot in my book. read more

They were able to get me in very quickly, there was little to no wait time for my appointment to begin, and the expense was very affordable. Dr. Anne Heskel was a great listener and made all my concerns feel heard and validated. She really took the time to go through every possible solution for my cat and I never felt rushed. She also did a great job handling my cat. My cat is very docile at home but can be very feisty once in a vet's office. I never felt shamed for this. And I appreciated Dr. Heskel allowing me to be involved with the exam to ease my cat's anxiety. It was the most pleasant and efficient vet visit I've ever had. These great people here are absolute professionals and are equipped with the experience and wonderful staff it takes to handle difficult dogs. My 2 year old shar pei is terrified of vets to the point where she needs to be sedated on trazadone and muzzled beforehand. While I came here during COVID-19 and was not allowed inside during her appointment, all seemed to go smoothly and she was able to receive all the care she needed. What is untruthful about my review? It is all 100% accurate. This vet clinic is not respectful and attempts to create a false narrative. Initially they had my review taken down. I posted it again as it was a truthful review of my experience with them. Makes you wonder how many other bad reviews they had taken down. I have asked them for evidence of specific services rendered and they have not provided them. I asked them follow-up questions about the imaging to which I have seen no response. Today we took our dog for blood work, prior to having him neutered. After numerous tries for several weeks to receive an advance estimate, they presented it at time of blood work. It was approximately 2x higher than any other quality estimate in the areas for this routine procedure. When asked for an explanation, the lead nurse simply told me they factor in contingencies. I asked if we could remove the cost of additional risk factors, assuming the bill would be lower if no cost over runs occurred. No cigar. We've really grown tired and now wary of this clinic giving us no estimates for expensive procedures, and then charging us up front at an appreciably higher rate than the community norm. Really not happy with this Vet office. Took my bengal cat to the vet and asked them how his teeth were. They said his teeth were fine. I then said what about the one that is missing (they must have not even checked). So then we scheduled an expensive dental procedure to check his teeth. They neglected to inform me before putting him under that they don't do fillings (only extractions). The vet tech told me they needed to remove his main canine tooth (was chipped) before even talking to me about a filling as a potential solution. When I asked about that option, she said that they don't do that type of work and that they refer out to a specialist. WTH?!? Why don't you tell me that you don't do fillings before you put him under for a dental procedure. I would have taken him to that other place and only put him under once if I knew that you didn't do this work. So... basically Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center is just hustling money out of people, implying that they can do everything (given the costly estimate), and then just referring out. Smh. Now I have to put him under again (which is dangerous), for a filling that they should have told me upfront that they don't do. Update: Received a call from Scott Schini, who absolutely should not be managing any business. I expected an apology for the miscommunication and negligence and instead just got an $800 bill and telling me to go to another Vet Clinic. He refused to even acknowledge the situation or even listen to my feedback and refused to provide my vet records to me upon transfer to a new Vet Clinic. Do yourself a favor and take your pet elsewhere. read more

When she reached the point that it was time to let her go, I called Maple Leaf but they had no appointment openings plus were short-staffed due to COVID. Yet, they still found a way to make room in their schedule so I could bring my little girl in. On top of that, the vet and staff conducted themselves with the utmost care, compassion and respect. I was searching for a new vet since my pup and I just relocated to Seattle from Southern California and I came across this great place with excellent reviews--thought that i'd try it out. My pup had some sort of skin irritation on multiple parts of his body and after being seen by Dr. Heskel I felt so comfortable going home with him and his treatment plans. It was so incredible to me how our 30 minute visit felt like it was a lot longer (in a good way). Dr. Heskel made it seem like my pup was the only patient she had seen all day. They were diligent and patient with both of us and made sure that my pup was comfortable the whole time. They inquired about his history, diet, stool, behaviors, daily routines... to name a few thorough questions. I've never felt so at peace. My pup has had 2 vet visits before in Southern California and they were both enforcing distancing due to COVID so there was a major disconnect that I didn't get here. After our favorite vet Dr. Barbara Deeb from Allpets passed away we were sort of left in limbo without a vet for our ferrets. Don't get me wrong there are definitely enough ferret vets in the Seattle area - but no one even came close to the friendly, highly ferret educated Dr. Deeb. My little guys would love visiting her office so they could run around the reception and taunt the old cat that would sit quietly and take it. We did take them to Exotic Pets on Aurora for awhile, and don't get me wrong the service is great, but there will be no running around in this reception (understandably with the huge range of exotic critters that pass through the doors, that would be difficult). I also don't like it that I seen a different nurse every time I go there. So I decided I wanted a smaller establishment and somewhere closer to my home due to the fact that our little Ziggy has a monthly injection for a tumour that will eventually take his life. Dr. Schini and the staff that assist him are amazing! You know straight away that this man loves and cares deeply for animals - great and small. Like many other yelpers I also received a call the next day to see how Ziggy was doing, now how is that for service! Excellent Pet Care but they do have unnecessary charges. We took our puggle in for his recent vaccines and were charged 50% more than at our old Vet Clinic. We were charged: $24 DHLPP and $22 Rabies plus a "discounted exam fee" $38 Total visit cost $84 Highline Vet for the same exact service: $28 DHLPP $18 Rabies and there is no exam fee ever. total $46 They have an exam fee for every visit (we had just been in the week before yet still had to pay the $38 visit fee). Maple Leaf Veterinary is extremely friendly, give great service and they take great care of Ted but so did our old vet at half the cost. Because I trust fellow yelper and dear friend Faith, I knew that I could trust Maple Leaf Veterinary Care with my two precious Pup-a-lups(TM). Finally a vet that doesn't make you leave with your tail between your legs and that confused "did I just get ripped off by my car mechanic" kind of feeling. The prices quoted and actually charged were so much lower than other vets we have called and visited. They called the next day to check on our dogs and to top it off they sent this really adorable "Welcome" card to our house a week after our visit. Seriously it was adorable, it had a cartoon drawing of all of these really cute animals on the front- I put it on my fridge. Anyway, (I always get off track!) I am seriously grateful for this place. Just knowing that they exist makes me feel better, because as anyone who has a special pet will understand, you just need to know that there is someone out there you can trust to provide quality and affordable health care to your pup-a-lups(TM). Have taken my dog there a few times for a "second opinion" on his digestive and skin issues. Saw Dr. Dittrich, who was nice enough. I was hoping for a fresh set of eyes and perhaps some holistic ideas for the problem. I let her know at the outset that these were my goals for the visit. They did an exam and pretty much said I needed to continue the nasty prescription food that my dog hates. They did do blood tests and suggested that maybe an allergist would be in order but really didn't have anything to add that my usual vet hadn't done. They weren't too helpful in terms of suggesting alternative remedies to my pet's condition. While the service was satisfactory and the care was good, the price was way more than I paid at my usual vet - which is why I've given them a three star rather than a four star. For this level of care and service, I think I'll continue going to my usual vet. read more

Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center is hands down the best place for you to take your furry friends. I have taken all 3 of my cats there and they give the best care and are very compassionate about their work. As most people only go once a year to the vet, I had been there about 6 times within the month. My beautiful baby boy, Charlie, was diagnosed with FIP and some neurological problems. Dr. Schini and his team did all they could for him and I greatly appreciate it. I have seen my fare share of veterinarians, but none of them compare to the ones at Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center. They took care and loved Charlie as if he were their own and that is the most important thing about a veterinarian. Although Dr. Schini had worked on Charlie's case, I had seen Dr. Meyers and Dr. Dittrich for my other two cats, Bella and LuLu. Everyone at Maple Leaf is wonderful and all their veterinarians are great! You can tell that they love what they do. I was a big fan of their line of communication. They let me know how much everything was going to cost and helped me do everything I could for Charlie. I was surprised when I got a personal phone call from Dr. Schini, letting me know the results and answering all the questions I had. All in all, they made me feel at ease when I had to put Charlie down and even sent me a "Thinking of You" card to follow up. It was signed by everyone at the clinic, it was so sincere that I cried. I'm pretty picky about who I take my dog too. I'm a dog groomer and dog trainer after all and have heard lots of horror stories from my clients and their pets before I got my own. I saw all the good reviews from yelp when they first opened and I almost always go for word of mouth when it comes to trying out new things. I've now been going to this vet for 2 years, from when I first got my puppy. So far, we had 2 annual exams and one visit for a hot spot my B.C. mix, Addy, was chewing on her tail. They can be a pretty penny and my husband and I don't make much money. However, we don't mind paying for quality and preventative care so that we don't have to pay way more in the long run. It's worth it and we know we're paying less this way. Our pup has been pretty darn healthy so far and maybe our vet has partly to do with it! It's also very cleanly... but not so sterile it seems unwelcoming, the whole staff is friendly, and everyone I've talked to knows what they're talking about.. no one gives me the run around. ever. Even though we haven't had any major non-routine visits, i feel safe in knowing that if we do we have the care that our dog will need. Dr. Shini, by the way, is really sweet and has a happy giggle.
