I am a clinical professional with 25 years post Master's experience. I had a period of…read moreunemployment last fall as many people do and began self medicating with anything that my Dr. would give me to calm nerves to cope with the debilitating stress. Aegis is supposed to be a leading provider in treating those with addictions. I on the other hand applied for a job and got an interview with them for a position which I qualify for and would be very good doing now that I'm clean. During the time that I interviewed, I was high on 3 Vicodin and 3 Xanax to deal with the stress and try to ace the interview. I somehow made it through the first 2 stages of HR and a Chief Level staff, then came time to go upstairs to meet Aaron Hightower the all and knowing clinical director to make the final decision. After walking up the steps I was out of breath and as soon as I sat down he asked me the standard "so tell me about yourself". I was trying to catch my breath and the adrenaline from walking up the steps put me in a full blown panic attack. The more I tried to talk and pull myself out the more pathetic I got. So what do you think the Clinical Director of Aegis Medical, Mr. all knowing Addictions expert did? He sat and stared at me and looked down his nose as I went down in flames. Is he so ignorant that he is all books and had never seen a pill addict or did he just not care? I finally pulled myself together enough to walk downstairs as I watched he and the HR director talk about my episode through the glass in the door and I actually saw them both shrug and set my file aside. I never heard from them again but now I'm off of the self medication and have some great contacts with people who know what they are doing.

I've seen my share of therapists, and know when a psychiatrist is "the real deal." Dr. Vause truly…read moreis: she is patient, attentive, kind, and deeply knowledgeable. For someone with such experience and expertise, she's extremely down-to-earth and approachable. I came to Dr. Vause at a time of change in my life (at work, with family, and in my relationships), and my stress was surging. My depression and anxiety levels were becoming hard to manage, and I was turning to drugs and alcohol to cope. Dr. Vause helped me get through it. In addition to counseling, she guided me through some challenging but needed adjustments to my medication regimen. Every med suggestion was explained clearly, Dr. Vause answered all of my questions, and I knew what to expect in terms of effects and side-effects. I never felt as if pills were just being pushed my way; she really wanted me to participate in my own treatment and understand her reasoning. In addition to the excellent medication recommendations and adjustments, she is a wonderful therapist. Since seeing her, I have felt much better, and have experienced real improvements in my life. Her combination of innate sensitivity, compassion, and deep medical expertise is quite rare. I feel completely comfortable and secure in this relationship, and am fortunate to have found this exceptional doctor. I know I am cared for as a whole person, not just a bundle of problems, and there's nothing I hesitate to talk to Dr. Vause about. Having her in my life is itself therapeutic and a source of strength for me. Thank you Dr. Vause!

I asked for a referral (virtually every doctor has at least one other doctor they refer patients to) but she had NONE. She seemed completely unapologetic and I felt like I was simply wasting her time and she just wanted me to hang up. Obviously since she has no openings for new clients there is no harm to her business by posting this...only saving others from wasting their time. I am suicidal and need a doctor asap. But I don't need a doctor that lacks compassion and has no interest to help unless you happen to be an existing patient.

It was a long road of shame and confusion before I found a psychiatrist that was not afraid to use his full arsenal of medications. Yes. He is blunt and to the point. He has many clients. He is not a therapist. And yes, his staff is very busy so try not to not take it personal when they have a distraction or "tone" people seem to complain about. In fact, the receptionists are some of the most helpful, hardest workers I've seen in any medical office setting. Dr Ruttenberg is the best psychiatrist I have seen.
