Maple Tree is just fantastic! We try to stop here every time we are in the Riverhead area. My daughter and I stopped by this week after doing wedding planning and they had burnt ends on a Wednesday! Yay, we had burnt end sandwiches with caramelized onions and cheddar which we inhaled. The burnt ends are perfectly cooked, caramelized melting goodness cubes of meat. If they have them, get them! Side orders of Mac and cheese, smoked beans and kallards - all delicious. We've also had the ribs and pulled pork on other occasions and the pastrami is awesome - best Reuben on earth. In fact, it' so hard to choose what to have because each item is better than the other. MT is doing my daughter's rehearsal dinner and wedding cocktail hour - slider bar! - and we can't wait! One afternoon looking for a gas station near Tanger Outlets Riverhead, we stumbled upon quite possibly one of the best (if not THE best) BBQ in the East Coast, and we've eaten at near every high rated BBQ joint there is north of the Carolinas. Everything is consistently delicious. From the smoked wings, burnt ends, brisket, homemade pastrami, sides (perfect collard greens! 3 PM and not even overcooked). Even the sweet lemon tea was perfection. For beer drinkers (we're not), this place also carries beers from surrounding breweries of NY State, if you feel like having a locally brewed pint. He was readily available throughout the planning process and helped us coordinate the reception. He set us up with the perfect menu and everyone loved it! had jury duty today... so I was out in riverhead.. figured why not ill try it again. and I must say............................. it was GREAT! staff was pleasant, ordered a smoked half chicken, collard greens, mac n cheese, alabama sauce, and sweet sauce.. ohh and a sweet tea... the chicken I didn't need a knife. just pulled apart. the sauces were perfect. the mac n cheese and collard greens were decent. sweet teas was also good.. all together it all paired well.. I have eaten BBQ all over Texas, North Carolina and Alabama and I have to say that this is the best I have ever had. Truly delicious in every way down to the smallest detail. The burnt ends were amazing, the brisket spectacular. Terrific baked beans which were a flavorful mixture of three varieties. Great spicy pickles and terrific coleslaw. In addition the restaurant was very clean and comfortable. The man behind the counter was nice and made great recommendations. I only wish I lived closer so I can come more often! After a rocky start I ended up having a great meal. The best part was the smoked chicken wings. I would recommend.

Good effort. Their brisket was flavorful, but slices from the point were a bit overdone, as the slices fell apart easily. But, I'm a huge stickler, so I should say that this place is just as good, or better, than any other barbecue restaurant on Long Island. You'd need to travel to Brooklyn for better. read more

The brisket was delicious, meaty, and not very fatty, the beans were out-of-this-world- sweet and lightly smoky, the corn bread was outstanding- moist, mildly sweet, and containing corn kernels, and the collard greens were fresh, not overcooked, and had a delicious sauce. Im not sure if we just caught this place on an off day or something... the many positive reviews is what made us choose this place for lunch. The Inside was rather adorable, warm, lots of wood interior, with an overall modern BBQ theme. It was mid week, so there was no one there but us. We noticed the prices were a little expensive, which happens with BBQ food. But usually it is filling and and tasty so we can get past the price. The problem was, we felt kinda ripped off after eating here. We ordered a combination 'platter' with two meats, two sides, and then we ordered 2 jumbo wings on the side. NOW... i have had many jumbo wings in my time. These were advertised as JUMBO smoked wings. We only ordered 2 because jumbo wings can be really filling, and we really just wanted to taste them. When they brought the food out, my face looked so confused. Those WERE NOT jumbo wings, they were actually smaller than most regular wings I get at a pub. We were confused... we were going to ask if the waitress gave us the wrong thing, but we did not want to make her feel uncomfortable. I just... how can you advertise jumbo wings ( you can buy 1 wing if you want, they were individually priced, which makes sense for jumbo wings) and then bring out something with barely any chicken on it? I was confused, and annoyed. Whatever kind of wings they were tasted ok, but I feel like I did not taste much due to the lack of chicken. Now as for our 'combination platter'. Again, we were shocked to see the portion sizes. It really was a rip off and not worth the money. I could not believe how small these platters were. The brisket we had was tasty, but barely enough for two people to share. Chicken was just good. I was not crazy about whatever white sauce they put over it. Side of beans was pretty solid, as was the different flavors of BBQ sauce. Mac and cheese was disappointing... dry and lacked flavor. Ugh. I had high hopes for this place... was even going to use them for a private event based on reviews alone and word of mouth. I was excited about this place but unfortunately they let us down. We got the smoked wings which were extremely burnt. The sauce was more Asian than BBQ which threw me off. We also got the pulled pork which was lacking flavor. The corn bread as well had no flavor. The Mac and cheese seemed like it sat in a food warmer all day. I spoke to Dennis, the owner last Wednesday to place a catering order for 100 people for a party on July 7th. The website states that they need 48 hours notice for catering orders of 50 or 100 people. So, I figured 10 days is ample time. Dennis writes down my order and tells me that he's very busy that weekend and he has yet to go over the catering orders. He said he would get back to me in a couple of days. I didn't hear from him and called on Saturday and left a message. I didn't receive any call back from him. It's now Sunday and I still don't hear from him and don't have a caterer. I call and he answers. He apologizes that he didn't get back to me and tells me how he's busy this weekend and he still has to go over the catering orders. He keeps repeating himself. We went over my order again and made some changes on the food. He said most likely he can do it but would definitely get back to me this morning, Monday, July 2nd. It's 12:30 today and I still didn't get a call. I called him and he apologizes said it's crazy, more excuses and still he can't give me an answer. Shouldn't he have an idea if he can fill a catering order especially when it's the week of the event? He said he would contact me late afternoon. I told him he has now stressed me out and he has put me in a bad position. It's Monday the week of the event and now because he can't give me an answer I have to find another caterer 5 days before the party. It's 4:30 pm and still no contact from Dennis. I called and left a message how disgusted I am. I luckily found a professional, reputable restaurant that was able to tell me if they can take my order within 30 minutes after they confirmed with the owner. Dennis has lost a catering order for 100 people and I will tell everyone how unprofessional he has been. I'm shocked that he is still in business and surprised of any positive reviews that have been posted. read more

This place is pretty small, and in the summer you can order take out and sit by the river right across the street to eat. It's also very close to tanger outlets so you can finish shopping and eat dinner or lunch here. Parking is difficult to find since they have a limited parking lot across the street from the actual restaurant. The ribs were very tasty and tender- the meat fell right off the bone but it was too salty and spicy for me, however I do have a low spice tolerance. The mac and cheese wasn't great, it was watery and bland. The herb potatoes weren't good either, they were bland and the rosemary was a bit too much. The cornbread tasted stale but after warming it up in the oven when we got home it was much better. The bathroom was so clean!! Overall this is was a pretty decent place. read more

Had maple tree cater a bbq for about 100 people. We ordered ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, burnt ends, and salads. Food was delicious, the cook and server were excellent. The owner was very helpful when helping us order. The food was all pre smoked but tasted like it just came out of the smoker. The cashier is very sweet and recommended me the Blueberry pond cake because their pineapple cake was out. It was not bad but not something I would get at a BBQ place again. We ordered the Bama, the Ranch Hand, the smoked wings, and the special pulled pork taco. We waited quit a long time arond 40 minutes to get our food. There were 2 huge chunk of fat in my Ranch Hand otherwise it's an ok sandwitch . The boma was ok, nothing special. The wing was half cooked with blood inside. The waitress forgot our side and when I asked for it she didn't even appoligize...like this is normal and I won't get it if I don't ask for it. The potato salad was bland. The tortilla for the taco was hard and dry. It basically tastes like plastic. The only 2 things I like were their sweet jalapeño pickles and ice tea. My boyfriend think the BBQ sauce they provide on the side of the table is pretty good. I guess my expectation was too high because of all the high review in yelps but at least I tried and I know I won't come back. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you...this is a great place for bbq food My folks and i stopped here on the way back to the Hamptons after a day in Riverhead. We drove right by this place, and i saw it in the corner of my eye. Based on all the reviews I've read on Yelp, I convinced my parents to turn around and give this place a try. I'm so glad we did. We decided to get take out even though the inside is super cute and totally clean. We wanted to feast on the food in the comfort of our own home! We ordered a full rack of ribs (totally fall off the bone), the North Carolina pulled pork, and the burnt ends brisket. We only had to wait about 5-10 minutes. The guy behind the counter who took our order was super friendly and gave us extra bbq sauce without us even needing to ask for it (both regular and sweet sauce). Every other bbq place we've been to out east makes you feel like you're asking for the sun and the moon when you ask for a side of sauce. Anyway, all the way home, our mouths were watering! Finally, when we got home, we feasted. This did not disappoint at all. My dad tried to grab three ribs, but the bones came right out of the rack! Some people may not like the meat cooked to this point, but we loved it! Parts of the rack were less "fall off the bone" and stayed on the rib bone. The pulled pork (NC style) was really good - tangy with a bit of spicy kick. The burnt ends were the "least" favored dish -- it wasn't exactly "burnt" the way my mom loves black charcoal...but still very tasty. I would make a mention that this brisket was very lean and not fatty as other places make them. I'm not sure if the regular portion (not "ends") has more fat. We're definitely making this a normal stop on the way home from days out in Riverhead! read more

Ok, now that I read the reviews more closely after I've eaten here I understand it better and it explains some things--like why no dessert was listed on the menu but someone had recommended it. Like why some things the waitress offered to others were not on the menu....LIke why in some ways it felt like it was a new restaurant when although I never stopped in, I knew it had been here for years. THEY HAVE NEW MANAGEMENT! Let me explain the menu item issue--my husband and I ordered from the menu--the sides didn't excite me but I ordered. As we were waiting for our order a couple near us was ordering and I heard the manager come over and noted that the "sweet potato circles" were non-dairy. THEY WERE NOT ON THE MENU. THEY SOUNDED DELICIOUS. My sides were good but, those sweet potato rounds sounded delicious. A family came in soon after and they were offered sweet potato rounds. Not me :( Not sure why except that they weren't as organized as they should have been. BUT THE FOOD you're wondering. It was very good and delivered quickly and hot. They also could maybe explain that the sauces could be on the side and maybe note which sauces are options on the menu. But I will be back and consider this a great option after a day of shopping or fish hunting at the aquarium. read more

So delicious! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about all their foods and make excellent recommendations. We were greated immediately and offered seats at a large table. I went with a group of friends and we tried a little bit of everything. Because we were in a group they actually took our order at the table rather than having us wait at the counter. The chicken wings are so juicy and we were given 3 different sauces to enjoy. I really enjoyed the standard wing sauce (not sure of an exact name as I was more concerned with getting the food into my mouth) and the white sauce was delicious as it offered a kick of horseradish. Honestly, if they bottled their sauces they could make a killing! So good! We tried the burnt ends, Texas brisket, North Carolina pulled pork, smoked pastrami and a cubed chicken that I cannot remember the name of. My favorites were the burnt ends, smoked pastrami and pulled pork but EVERYTHING was AMAZING! The cornbread was to die for. Super dense and moist. The coleslaw was standard but good and they had an interesting take on baked beans which I really enjoyed. Shortly after we were seated their was a bit of a rush. The staff was great at brining out additional people so customers weren't stuck waiting in line. It was impressive how well the staff worked together.
