Don't ever go here. Course is closing in a few months. Sold to solar farm. Conditions are not what you would expect for such a high rate. I booked 8 people and 1 guy got sick and the club pro actually made me pay for missing guy. Course was not close to sold out. He actually thought his course was the equivalent to Pine Hills in Plymouth which is laughable. Rude and arrogant. Just a horrible experience. When golfing here, my husband went early in the season and paid a substantial amount of money for the course to be below par conditions. Additionally, when going to the snack bar to get some food with friends, the two older men working the snack bar were INCREDIBLY rude. When asking for coffee, it was the end of the pot and gave one full cup and half cup and still required full pricing. They then prompted "are you going to order or what" to one of our friends when they were standing there looking. When leaving, our other friend was exiting the restroom and heard the men talking loudly saying "these kids are just standing there not knowing what they want to order. Are you going to just stand there or order?". For a sub par conditioned golf course this early in the season charging $78 to play, this kind of service is horrible. We will not be coming back given the attitude of these two individuals. read more

Pretty tough and fun course. Challenging hilly terrain and some blind shots. Pace of play can be really slow and it's a bit overpriced. They definitely are a bit greedy with the expensive price and putting too many tee times near each other. read more

Played here last year and thought the course was nice and challenging. Read all of the recent negative reviews here on Google and thought maybe it was just people being extra harsh "Karens." Found out these reviews are completely correct and this golf course is no longer worth playing. Where to begin: *$69 on a Thursday morning ($138 total for my friend and I). Way too expensive for this place. *Fairways and tee boxes were just aerated. Complete disaster. No one warned us when we called to make the tee time. Nothing on the website warning people of this. At least discount the round if the conditions are going to be that bad. 75% of the course was covered in plugs. *9:05 tee time. Didn't tee off until 9:20. *pace of play was awful. Didn't get off the course until 2:15. First 4 holes took an hour and a half. One guy in our group had to leave in the middle of the 17th hole to pick his kids up from school! 9:05 tee time and you can't even finish before school gets out! *useless ranger driving around talking and joking with the group in front of us instead of actually moving them along. *cart was barely operational. Ebrake barely worked. Step on the gas...nothing. Step on it again...nothing. Feather the pedal...nothing. Feather it again and it actually popped a wheelie sending me and my playing partner's heads snapping back. *I totally get it. People need to work the course. Greenskeepers have a job to do. But don't park your equipment 150-200 yards in front of the tee box and wave at us to hit over your head! Talk about nerve wracking! Happened multiple times during the day. * also there was some type of women's tournament starting later that morning. Imagine scheduling a tournament at this place and showing up to see that the fairways and the tee boxes were just aerated! I'd be pissed if that was my business! Positives: Greens were in great shape and rolled well. Course is challenging and it is a really nice layout. Sad that many of these problems can be fixed with better management. Make a note on the website of the dates you're aerating. Tell the ranger to keep up the pace of play. Instruct workers to pull off to the side when people are teeing off. Start rounds at the actual tee times. Bottom line if you want to play 18 and pay $70 on a weekday morning there are much better places than this. Maplegate should be $45 or $50 maximum for the conditions and the overall experience. read more

Myself and 3 other friends signed up for the season pass for the 2021 season, and have been golfing around ~20 times this year at Maplegate. Here are some of the key takeaways that I've noticed in my rounds so far. * The course is in unbelievable shape, compared to a few years ago(still improving!). Expect a nice beautiful divot to fly off that fairway with your high irons & wedges. Greens are a bit fast, but roll true. Bunkers well maintained. * Lenny, the GM, is extremely professional, and also doesn't have an issue going out and helping the rangers keep up the necessary pace of play. I believe Lenny understands what needs to be done to bring this course back to championship quality, and is more than up to the task. Looking forward to the new carts. * Connor, and the rest of the staff (including cart girls- Alexa, Hannah) have been great! Extremely knowledgeable and never make you feel uncomfortable. A++ staff. * The food is as good as it gets in regards to country clubs around the area. * The range is great! They regularly change locations on the range to allow yourself the opportunity to hit off a fresh patch of grass. * Don't expect to play a round in under 4 hours if you are playing on a "weekend" past 11am. They have a courteous number of rangers out there to help out with this issue. With that said, this course is extremely difficult, and new golfers tend to come out, leaving the rangers in a tough position. All things considered, myself and my three friends are more than happy with our decision to become a member at Maplegate. Keep up the good work! read more

If you played Maplegate prior to this spring, you need to play it again. This is a new course. Remember the awful fairways, overgrown trees, lousy greens, horrible sand bunkers? All are for the most part gone. 1. Fairways are in great shape with the exception of two which I assume the greenskeeper has not gotten to yet. 2. Many of the bunkers have new sand (high-quality sand) 3. Greens are perfect condition. 4. Tons of tree work have opened up the course especially around the greens. The greens run true but almost all puts are straighter than they appear. The number one stokehole (4) is challenging but I think 5 is even more difficult. There are really no bad holes on the course. My personal favorite is a 15, a 210 par three. The staff is very pleasant and the prices are fair. The only things they need to improve are the cart paths and some new golf carts. Overall this is a wonderful course. Well worth your time and money. read more

Course is in good shape and was great to play there. However the staff was quite rude and keep hounding our foursome to play faster even though we were within the 4.5 to 5 Hr weekend time frame for a round. They finally told us to get off on the 16th hole because we were supposedly to slow. I thought golf was supposed to be a nice leisurely sport were you could enjoy the day. They did give a partial $30 refund on the back 9 , but did charge more than the reservation price of $60 up to $75. If you're going to charge $75 then charge $75 don't be sneaky about it. I probably won't go back because of the later items on this review. read more

Course is beautiful but what an absolute disaster we had tonight. 4pm tee time. Got through 7 holes and left at 6:30pm. The pace here is pathetic. There was a ranger driving around yucking it up with other golfers and not doing anything to help the pace. I love that the game is growing but for 45$ for 9 holes at least have someone pushing things along. I'll never play a twilight round here again. Maplegate Country Club - 18th green looking nice! - Golf Near Me - Bellingham, Massachusetts

Visiting Boston with my son to look at colleges and decided to play a round here. We are members of a private club in NJ and did not have much expectations for this club after reading some reviews but.... I must say that the course was in great shape and the course was uniquely challenging. Greens were a bit slow but I am just used to faster ones so won't hold it against the course but everything else was great. Everyone treated us very nice, from the clubhouse to the starter, to the rangers.... everyone was respectful and courteous. We got paired with another father/son twosome and they were awesome, so it made the 5 hour round much more pleasant. The threesome in front of us was slow and playing form tees they should bot have been otherwise it would have been a 4 hour round on a Sunday afternoon. I would definitely recommend this track even if it is almost an hour from Boston. read more

Not a course for walkers. This is another local course that uses the "pace of play" excuse to nickel and dime patrons into paying for a cart when they'd prefer to be walking (and would play far more quickly if they could walk directly to their shots). It may be fine for beginners or weekend golfers, but the upkeep and overall condition of the course falls far short of acceptable for seasoned players who play the ball down and expect better. I would not recommend this place when there are plenty of better alternatives nearby. read more

Maplegate Country Club - Golf Near Me - Bellingham, Massachusetts

I played here on May 12th. The course was in fine condition for this time of year with many maintenance workers swarming all over the course. The greens were being rolled and are growing in with the recent warmth. There are a few greens with brown spots, but the course is recovering from what the pro shop said was a "crane fly" infestation that attacked the greens and fairways in 2013. The fairways are green and lush, except as noted above. The tee boxes need work, most especially the women's boxes that are a little bit bare or unkept... I suppose the staff has a plan to get greens and fairways in order before working on the tee areas. You need to think your way around this course. There is plenty of holes to use a driver and others where it's best to use less club. There are lots of wetlands and ponds throughout the course that are best avoided. I went into the pro shop and to say the course was fun. I was greeted by friendly smiles and "thank you's". It looks like there are a few reviews here that deliberately want to sandbag the course. I'm not sure of the reasons, but comments such as "worst ever" are a damn joke. Having a crappy round is no reason to slam the golf course! I look forward to going back soon. read more

The course is OK. just okay. I played there about five times this month. I can say that I will probably not be going back. First off, They did not register one of the tee times I made on an app. They made me pay full price even after I showed them the charge on my card. I'm not one to make a scene so I went along with it and payed the fee for a second time.. Then... as I was about to tee off... a random player sits in the cart I payed for. Yes... they actually fucking paired me up with a fucking walker in the cart I payed for during a global pandemic. Also, Only half the staff wears masks (the management not being among those that do wear masks). I went along with it and let the kid in my cart. As I finish 9 they make me replay the front 9 again due to a men's league in front of me. I will no longer be considering this club for membership. read more

Friendly people; challenging course. Lots of lateral hazards; lost lots of balls in the swamps but found just as many. Do those count as strokes ? Upon entering the gate the maples are very nice, the greens and fairways too: the ones in view that is. The greens not in view were not so nice: burnt and recently aerated. End of the season wear, no doubt. Yet accustomed to discounted golf with aerated greens; No discount so, changed all three putts to two. That will set my handicap straight. YIKES! I don't cheat; I just play to win! Which I always do (in my own mind). Nevertheless, the round was invigorating and energizing as the challenging course demanded. The clubhouse is small yet seemed to offer quite an assortment of food and beverages with some nice outdoor seating to take in the courses lovely views. Front nine noisy from highway but back nine quiet and serene on the lengthy fairways to the eighteenth. Would definitely jump at the opportunity to play Maplegate again. read more

I don't usually post reviews like this, but this has to be done. I used to play this course quite a bit, when they offered a great 2 year membership. Since then, they have put ZERO money into this course. It's unfortunate, because the course has a nice layout. This place has gone to complete crap...dried out fairways, overgrown greens, horrible tee boxes, still no clubhouse. They have no right charging $55 on weekends...I wouldn't play here again, even if it was for free!!! There are too many options in the area...Shining Rock, Highfields, The Glen, Wentworth Hills, Blissful Meadows, New England CC, Blackstone National, etc... read more

Since the unfortunate closing of Glen Ellen, the management at MapleGate went out and immediately hired Jeff, the former superintendent at Glen Ellen. I must say the difference is magnificent! Jeff came in with his crew, along with some of the MapleGate employees who really cared about the place, and they have turned this course around 180 degrees!!!! Great greens, well maintained fairways & hazards, excellent rangers helping things move along, it's just such a beautiful layout. My only fear is that Toll Brothers comes in and makes them a substantial offer that would be hard to refuse! Lenny Sr. once gave me a tour of how he and another gentlemen designed the course, it was fantastic !! Keep up the great work!!! read more

Please do not waste your time! I am playing in the US Pub Linx qualifier here in 2 weeks and played today to refresh my memory about the course. It is as bad as ever. They just aerated the greens this week and the once Bent grass greens are now covered in Poa. Played 10 years ago or so and was impressed, played 2 years ago and could not believe how it had fallen off. Nothing has changed since then. I don't know how they duped the USGA into playing a tournament here. The other qualifying players are going to have a rude awakening. I wouldn't pay $5 with cart to play here if I had the choice. The owner has ruined this place and the superintendent should be embarrassed!!!!! read more

I would echo the comments of other reviewers. The layout is ok, probably a better back nine than front. I particularly disliked the short, silly par 4 second hole, and the par 5 fourth hole, which has a very dense, brush laden brook that obscures a look at the green or fairway on the second shot. My biggest issue and the principle reason I gave this course two stars is the greens. They were the *worst* greens I have played on in several years. They were pockmarked, uncut disasters. I play quite frequently at many other courses and I can unequivocably say that these greens were relatively terrible. The problem to me isn't the poa, it was the lack of maintenance. On the plus side, I thought the pro was a nice guy and the tees/fairways were in three star condition. I paid 39 bucks with a cart, which wasn't too bad. read more

Course isn't bad but there is NO course management whatsoever. Every time I've been it turns into a 5-6 hour round with no ranger in sight to keep things moving. For early in the season course was in ok condition. Lots of tee boxes still need work but greens were pretty good and a lot faster than last year when I swore the place off. But because they had carts and I hadn't been out, said one more try. Honestly I dont know if I'll come back, even though they seem to be getting the course in better shape. The reason I probably won't be back is the 6 1/2 hr round, ridiculous. Either don't book so many tee times or get a ranger to move people along. read more

I can see where they want to get it and coming from playing at the The Glen in years past, I think they will do it with their new superintendent and his crew. This is a real golfer's golf course. It is extremely well maintained, usually not too busy on the weekends, and is a great place to play. The holes are set up to make you make shots, while not being entirely unforgiving. And now that they have reduced rates after noon and after 3pm on Saturdays, it can be a really cheap place to play! It's an easy drive out from Boston to 495 and down a few exits to Bellingham. The only problem with Maplegate, and goes along with it being a golfer's golf course, is the lack of food options in the clubhouse, and no drink carts. They have decent tuna and chicken salad sandwiches, great hot dogs, and a decent selection of beer, but that's it. For a fun challenging round of golf, this is the place we always go. read more

For some strange reason the course plays harder than it looks. I didn't think I hit that badly but the scores just piled up from little mistakes here and there. This is the worst course I've played at all year. It is in dire need of repair. You can drive a shot in the middle of the "fairway" and end up hitting off of dead pan. Easily the worst golf course in eastern Massachusetts. As someone who never writes a review, I feel compelled to tell people so that they can learn from my mistake. The greens are a joke (they must use the same mower setting for the greens that they do for the first cut of rough). The driving range has mats and balls from the '60's, and if that isn't enough, every time you play, there is invariably someone soliciting from one charity or another on the third tee box. How about 'Let's raise some money so we can hire a grounds crew'? Trust me when I tell you, that you're better off going to a range, or even playing tennis before you play at this dump. Just shameful the way the place is run, and it's been this way for years. Until they get some type of new management, do yourself a favor and stay away... read more

I am done with this course. It is very UN friendly to women and kids. My 12 year old has been playing this course since he was 5. The pro Greg is great - a really good instructor and very positive to women and children. However, Dave in the clubhouse and others are really not flexible at all. Today the course is wide open. No one playing. I was sending four 12 year olds (all members of franklin country club...not hackers) to play and then was told they can not go out until 4:17. Even though the course is wide open. 'Our jr. policy is'....is all they say. Not sure why they wouldn't want to encourage Jr. golfers and mid-day revenue. Baffling. read more
