I was leaving the driving range and witnessed staff turn away a group of people looking to search the abutting woods for a missing boy. I can understand not wanting people to get hurt, but to tell them the course was losing business because of it lacked compassion and tact. If a course was already resorting to offering deals on Golfnow to attract players, I doubt a few people poking around the woods is at fault for a hurting business. While I hope that individual never experiences what that family is going through, I do hope he can somehow learn that sometimes there are more important things in life. read more

I play golf a lot in Boston area and played here today because of groupon and it is a great track but the shape it's in is horrible! The tees are like hitting off dirt and greens are like putting off a fairway! Plus we had about 5 groups in front of us they don't know how to play golf.it was a 5 hour round and It wasn't worth the 38$ I payed! I shot a 79 with an 8.5 handicap but wouldn't recommend this course to anybody that is passionate about the game. It has potential but needs SERIOUS maintenance. read more

This course has potential, but was a little disappointing when I played there this weekend. The greens were awful. 95% of them were aerated and at least 5 of them had dirt patches somewhere which made putting total guess work. The tee boxes were all ripped up and a couple of the fairways were overgrown to the point of it looking like rough. Some of the holes have a great layout, but there are too many holes where you have to hit a tee shot 200 or fewer yards to avoid marsh/overgrown areas. I am not a great golfer but I know a good course when I play one. This is a very good course I have played it twice. The second time was this past weekend the first time was years ago. Any how the course is well maintained the greens and t boxes are in great shape. Like one other review said the course plays harder than it looks, which is why I think it makes a great course keeps you on your game and focused. As for another review talking about lack of food and drink cart. I am not there to eat so tha does't bother me. They do have a decent selection of cigars and beverages. No drink cart is not a big deal I usually pack my own cooler its much cheaper. Price is great tee time was after noon so 50 with cart. Not bad prices in morning either I think is 69 with the cart. Easy drive from boston to 495 exit 18 and not far at all off the highway. I am playing there again this weekend and can not wait. Only hope my score gets lower. Would also like to add that the staff was very friendly. The gentleman in the club house, the lady at the concessions and the starter all very courteous. read more

Lets talk about this sh*thole for a sec. I live right around the corner and would love to be able to pop over and play a nice track so close to home and be proud to say I do. But I can't and I don't. The course has gone down hill every year I've lived here for the past 13 years. Every year the clubhouse employees make new excuses as to why the fairways are burnt, dead or missing and why the greens are disappearing. They should just make them sand greens, they'd be in better shape and seem to be good at maintaining that type of surface. I wouldn't let my dog run around on the course, never mind pay to play golf there when there are SO many better, more valued options in the area. The people that own it are clearly out of money and/or refuse to put one dime back into it. You can't help but hear endless rumors of rude owners, rangers, and unscrupulous business practices if you ask around. It's sad, they should be embarrassed into selling it to someone who gives a sh*t about the game and not themselves. Greedy. read more

All around a good experiance, had a minor issue with a trio behind us being rude and pushing me and my group to drive into the fairway while people were trying to play the hole, addressed it with the guy at the counter and he handled the situation very well, had a stern talking to them and comped us, I'm looking forward to playing here again on hopefully a better day. read more

I played here yesterday morning on a discounted rate of $39 for 18 and a cart. For that price, it's a steal! The tee boxes are still a little rough and there are some burnt out spots in the fairways, but the greens were in good shape. On it's way back to 4 or 5 stars. Played Glen Ellen for the past couple years which was in great shape. It closed at the end of last year so my group decide to join Maplegate for the 2018 season. I have to tell you as one who swore 20 years ago to never return here, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. First of all they hired the superintendent from Glen Ellen. He and his crew are doing a fine job getting the course in shape. The greens are fast and tricky. They are making a couple of the greens bigger. The fairways are starting to come in nice. Tee boxes are fine right now. The only thing that stops this from getting 4 or 5 stars is the lack of a clubhouse. This is a capital investment they must make if they want to play with the big boys. I suggest if you haven't played it in some time, try it again. You might be pleasantly surprised. read more

Played 9 today...and for 25+cart was happy with the choice. The course offers risk/reward and an opportunity to hit a lot of different shots. My four year old and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will give the course another shot down the road. read more

A nice mature course and overall layout for the price paid. This course just needs better irrigation all around and special treatment of tee boxes. Clubhouse is a double trailer but had a decent washroom and snack bar so I'm not lowering my rating because of it. I golfed here for the first time last night on the front nine, and I have to say I' m not impressed. The yardage markers were a joke, and hitting driver was all but impossible due to hazards on almost every hole. The course was in poor shape, greens were just ok. Played here a few years ago and was not impressed. I was invited to play with a client and was disappointed to hear it was at Maplegate. By the 3rd hole I was pleasantly surprised. The fairways were in good shape, greens were nice,but a little slow. Over all great lay out and much better maintained than I remember. There is a reason you can buy a 7 day pass for $550!! Terrible condition, spring cleanup has not started and who knows if it ever will!! T boxes are in terrible condition, little space to find a decent spot to T off, Greens were fair. Fairways were poor to fair, many times hitting off dirt in middle of the fairway. This place is improving again. It still needs some work, but it is a nice track and they are working on it. You can play pretty fast here most of the time too, usually moves at a good pace. Greens are a bit slow, but getting better. I find the people/staff to be pretty friendly here too! read more

Just played Maplegate and found the course to be in horrible shape. Fairways all browned out, tons of weeds, many places w/o grass at all. Tee boxes the same. Greens were browned out and dirt spots on many w/o any grass in areas. I live in the area and have played many times. Course mgt has let the course go down hill for past few years. Played this time last year, same thing but worse. Course claims they have not been able to water but this is simply not the case. It's really a shame because it was one of the nicer courses around, not any more. Find another course to play, no fun to play this one. read more

Played this course for the first time this weekend. Great layout and you need to be able to manage your way around the course well. Cons: The greens were too long and ran slow. It took 5 1/2 hours for a round which is way too long. If you decide to play here bring plenty of food and camping gear because it's going to be a while to finish. Had an issue with a member there who thought my friends and I took his range finder that he lost on one of the holes(we were playing behind him). They then let us play through but would purposely catch up to look in our carts. They drove by three times asking if we had seen it and two of my buddies didn't even know what a range finder was. We had told them multiple times we hadn't seen it and asked where they thought they left it but they weren't sure. After finishing we were then met by clubhouse staff and asked to search our bags and cart. We were told this is because he was a member and threatened to call the police. We all left feeling like we had been singled out for no reason. Most likely not coming back to this place. Thanks for making this an uncomfortable experience and allowing members to treat the paying public with such little disregard. read more

Worst course I have ever played! I live in Bellingham and would like to support a local business, but I will never give a dollar to them again!!! They demonstrate a complete and utter disregard for maintaining any aspect of the course. Tee boxes are sand, complete dirt 4 feet from the greens, and an actual lack of grass everywhere. I don't believe they even care. Sorry to say, but I'm hoping for Chapter 7 so a reputable business owner can bring this gem of a course back to life.... read more

I hadn't played here in a few years and thought to give it a try again. They were the only course around to have a last minute early tee time for a sunday. I read some reviews last night and could not believe they were true so I kept our tee time. They were all right and then some! This once beautiful golf course is an absolute dump. The greens were so terrible you could not bowl a ball straight on them. Burnt out patches on every green and fairway. Hacked up tee boxes, and yes the dreaded jerk ranger. Some clown with sunglasses and a beard, started following us after we made the turn(2hrs on sunday normal pace) then pulled his cart right next to us on every shot for the next two holes telling us to speed up. There was no one waiting on us and we were right on time. I work in the hospitality industry and this club could use some help from some good business professionals that know how to treat people. I would plead with anyone thinking about playing this place to reconsider until someone else buys it and turns the entire staff over starting with greenskeeper! The pro seemed nice but everyone else is still a jerk, besides a poor attempt from a local article to redeem them about their crappy attitude. Terrible, terrible, terrible - such a shame for a nice layout to turn into a landfill. I will not play here again until I hear ownership has changed and new owners start to care about this once great course. read more

Just found out they are raising the membership fees for this place! Can you justify the increase? If the course isn't in better shape, especially the molasses greens, no one will sign up! Also, stop making the greens SMALLER! Who keeps drawing white lines on all the greens making them shrink? It's pathetic! The 17th green is 1/2 the size it should be!!! Put money into maintenance & professional greens keepers! Tee boxes are dirt, greens are deathly slow, just piss poor conditions! My friends and I played here 4-5 time over the last 2 years primarily due to some cheap pricing on golf web sites and the hope that the course conditions would improve - no such luck. Firstly the course design isn't bad with a mix of straightforward and challenging holes, it has potential. The issue is the condition - the course maintenance gives the impression that it is a day or two from bankruptcy. The fact that a clubhouse was never built and the temporary shack is deteriorating adds to the impression. Don't use the driving range unless you don't mind hitting off concrete. Hopefully someone with some cash and a lawnmower will buy the place and make it playable. read more

This course is in horrible condition. With how wet the season has been and how all other courses this year have stayed very green and in good condition, this is beyond horrible, not even worth the 50 bucks at all, 0 money being put into this course and not sure they water ever. The mats on the range are a joke, worn down to the black pad, the tee boxes have 7 inch tall weeds growing in them and that is the best grass you will get in the tee box, they cannot even cut the weeds down, the fairways are beyond burnt out everywhere you look, everything feels like you are hitting off of and or landing on concrete so even a soft shot rolls out of play because there is nothing stopping it. The ruts everywhere are horrible, the bunkers are a mess, half of them with grass and weeds growing in them, there is tons of wash out that is not addressed at all, total mess and it runs super slow. With all the other golf courses around that are public being in such better condition you can find a more enjoyable place to play for sure. It is unfortunate because this course does have a great layout but the conditions are so bad that it ruins the experience regardless of the layout. Definitely a hackers dream if they do not care whether they are hitting off of grass in a fairway, or dirt, or just hard pack that you cannot do anything with. read more

Went today for first time. Not a bad course. We had 2 for 1 coupon you can tell the hot weather took its toll on course. The other golfer said it use to be in real good condition the greens were slow and some of fairways beat up but not awlful. I play every Wednesday morning - early in a group of old guys. The course has been in very nice condition the entire season (after the first early weeks). Folks at the club have been very nice and friendly. I think the tees need a little more water because they are hard. I have noticed snow mold starting to show - but has been treated. My only serious complaint is that the greens should be cut, or whipped, every morning before play. Have had a couple occasions where excess water on the greens has prevented any kind of realistic putting. read more

Course recovering from yearly aeration. Drought has not helped as with other courses. Looking forward to playing next spring. I travel and play golf a lot. My brothers and friends all live in and around Milford MA so I was looking forward to playing a Nicklaus course when I flew up there several years ago. To be fair, the golf course was very nice and a typical Nicklaus layout that benefits faders. Unfortunately, I will never return, however because of the staff. I played with seven other golfers on a weekend morning. The round was slow and the Marshall seemed to think it was our group holding up the play, although we were right on the tail of the group in front of us up until the 17th hole. Now I live in Las Vegas and have yet to play a course where the Marshall is not courteous and assertive at the same time. If you are behind, you get nudged back into place. The "Marshall" approached us on the 17th fairway and stated that we were out of line and needed to pick it up. The group in front of us was just approaching their second shots in the fairway on 18, so were were a shot behind. He barked at us to pick it up and then proceeded to stay near our group through the tee shots on 18, all the time looking at his watch with his 2-way squawking right beside him. Finally, while preparing to hit our approaches on 18, he picked up his radio, and started yacking on it, from a mound on the side of the fairway, causing my good friend and member of a local club to twice back away from his shot. We finally looked at him and my friend said "do you mind?" and in response he yelled "play your shot!" Upon finishing, I went into the pro shop and asked to speak to the Head Pro, regarding this rude individual. I explained the circumstances to him and explained that this rude individual was a detriment to the success of the club. He called in the Marshall who lied to him, telling him that we were holding up play all day, and then glared at me. The pro basically blew me and my friend off and proceeded to joke around with the Marshall. As we were leaving the Marshall came up to me and threatened to beat me up. I was appalled, thinking is this possible? I am being threatened bodily harm by a golf course employee? By the way, our round took 4 hours and 20 minutes on a Saturday morning. Needless to say, none of us who played that day will ever return. It is unfortunate that Jack is unaware of who runs his golf clubs. I'm sure he would disavow any claim to this one! read more
