I had to write this review, because I truly felt very deceived by the reviews...I wish I would've have had honest information, not information that is clearly fabricated. The hotel is nice, but definitely not even close to luxury. I was disappointed with our stay. We got one of the best rooms in the resort, and all we could hear was traffic from the road. The beds were sooo uncomfortable. The pool bar wasn't open the entire time we stayed there, and the pool was painfully cold, to the point where it was uncomfortable to swim in. My husband and I both got sick after eating their fish tacos. And the resort next door had the loudest live entertainment that kept us up all night. I Gave them two stars, because the breakfast was good and the views were amazing! And overall the property was pretty clean. I just wish more people were honest with what I should expect. I wouldn't have booked our wedding anniversary here if I had proper expectations. read more

Beautiful beautiful hotel. My friends and I stayed here for a 3 night 4 day bachelorette. We originally booked 2 penthouses, but they accidentally overbooked so we had 1 penthouse, 1 double room, and 1 studio room instead. Upon checking in, they will take your bags for you and offer you a welcome drink. They'll also scan your passports. The rooms are very pretty! A classic Spanish, almost Greek style - there's beautiful tiles all around and lots of colorful flowers in every corridor. The rooms all have a couch, living room area, kitchen with microwave and small fridge, and a small dining area. There's free coffee and creamer and they give lots of water bottles. Restrooms are very modern and pretty. There is hot water. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, soaps are all provided. Towels are changed everyday. There are also robes in the closet + hangars if you need. The service is pretty great here. We asked for multiple things throughout our stay (like a wine opener, straws, etc) and they were super accommodating. Everyone is very very friendly and nice. There's a pool area which was very beautiful. No jacuzzi, but its so hot anyway. You can order meal service by the pool - alcohol, smoothies, cocktails, you name it. We also got a hotel add-on for a picnic - picnic blankets under large beach umbrellas on their grass so you're not sitting directly in the sun. They serve charcuterie, a few bottles of wine, and some delicious chicken sandwiches. The meals here are ok. For dinner, I got the pork belly tacos and the pulled pork tacos. Both were ok but the price is hefty (about $11 per taco)! The free continental breakfast in the mornings is not bad. There's a buffet area with lots of fruit, granola, pastries, and some hummus/chips. You can also order eggs, omelets, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. Overall, I'd give their meals a 3/5. The next time I'm in Cabo, I would want to try an all-inclusive resort. But for non-all-inclusive, it was nice to stay here. I recommend it! read more

We came here for a friends wedding and loved it! The staff is so attentive(Pablo, Sergio, Eurofracia, Victor, Franco to name a few ) Always friendly and hustling for the guests. It's so cute and quaint, unlike the surrounding resorts. It's so beautiful and peaceful at this spot. There are a lot of stairs, in case you are traveling with anyone with limited mobility... Beds were comfy but the pillows were not. The tacos were a bit pricey but worth it. I'll be dreaming about those shrimp tacos on jicama tortillas for awhile Also ask at the front desk for the continental breakfast which includes: fruit, yogurt, granola, pastries, eggs, coffee and juice for $12! read more

Great place that is affordable but the places around it have variable and sketchy pricing. For example, grand VELAS said on one occasion that we could have a day pass for free to use the pools but pay ala carte for the food/drinks and then the next day it was $200/person for a day pass regardless of your food/beverage choice. The pharmacy nearby charges dollars for pesos, too- so enjoy your $26 toothbrush if you stupidly go there for anything. read more

What a special place. An absolute gem. This hotel is one of the last two original resorts remaining in Cabo. It has a Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez classic 50's vibe with all the modern upgrades and touches. The hospitality is second to none. We were greeted warmly by the front desk staff and handed a lovely welcome beverage. They instantly offered how they can help plan any activity to help make our stay everything we hoped it would be. They check in with us regularly. Property: The private 40-room property is tiered into the mountainside and draped in gorgeous pink bougainvillea. Many of the rooms are accented with brightly colored new hammocks. The maintenance staff is understated, however, they are constantly manicuring every corner of the property - from paint to landscape, to cleaning. It's a beautiful classic that is well maintained. We loved the flexibility and proximity of the beach cabanas, and beach and pool lounge chairs. The pool towels were fresh and the service was prompt. The pool was the perfect temperature and it was fun to mix up our locations each day. The layout of the pool and restaurant made us feel very private - which we loved. Rooms: The rooms were all very spacious, comfortable, well-appointed and had incredible views. The air conditioning worked great! The daily cleaning service always left something special. Food and Beverages: JUST YUM! Every single breakfast and lunch was DELISH. The avo toast, the bagel and lox, the fresh organic salads, the ahi tacos, I mean everything was sooooo good. We were worried one restaurant might feel stale, but we never felt that way on our 5 day stay. The staff was also open to making specialty drinks or even eggs and bacon if you asked. Staff: I mean - AHHH MAZING. The General Manager, Gerarado Vella, checked in with us multiple times and deeply cared about our feedback. We very much enjoyed our conversation with him and really respected his commitment to excellence. The food and beverage crew was just awesome - especially VICTOR!!!! What a gem. I wish we could have stayed longer! This hotel offers the best of both worlds. Adults only boutique hotel that has the peace and quiet... but just next door, the larger Grand Velas resort amenities at your disposal. Just beautiful... from the pink lemonade upon arrival, the lush pink flowers overflowing at every turn, to the picturesque walkways and decor, you will feel a sense of tranquility. Encanto is perfection. Breakfast was included and SO worth it. For all times of the day, every dish was delicious. DO NOT STAY HERE OR LET THE "VELAS" NAME FOOL YOU. Grand Velas left their customer service at their main resort. Mar Del Cabo is NOT IT. This is the worst experience in Cabo. Only cater to people they KNOW are influencers. Fake paid for reviews. Cons: Restaurant/ Pool service extremely poor. Wife and I would sit for hours before anyone would come to check on us. When they did, the orders were usually incorrect. Example: Asked the waiter SERGIO if the Tuna Tostada was worth ordering and he said yes it's very popular. So I ordered it. There are no pictures of the menu items so you just have to take their word for it. When he brought the Tostada I had zero clue it was incorrect. My wife took a couple bites and said it was chewy. I looked and realized there was OCTOPUS in there. Definitely not what we ordered. Told the waiter right away and his response was to get extremely defensive. He stated "umm this is what you ordered." I said no sir it isn't. I hate octopus, why would I order that? You recommended Tuna and you brought me the wrong thing. Which would be fine if he swapped it out.... But he didn't. He responds "WELL THIS IS A PROBLEM." I said what's the problem? He said, I HAVE TO CHARGE YOU. I said for what? He said YOU TOOK A COUPLE BITES. I said you brought the wrong item and we don't have pics to go off of so for all I knew this was the correct one. I let you know right away. He said NOPE WE WILL NOT DISCUSS. Unreal. Customer service 101, if you mess up, that's fine, but own it and fix it. Do not turn around and harass your guest over your mistake and make it their fault. He just walked away angry. Another example was they were constantly out of basic items. We asked for a coconut drink made in a coconut (plenty of guests had it), 40 min later the waiter comes back saying sorry we don't have any and you have to reserve it 2 days ago. It REALLY would have been nice to know when we checked in. Seems like they only reserved it for the Instagrammers for false advertisement. Another example was inconsistent drinks. A mango mojito one day didn't mean it would be a mango mojito the other day. One time they flat out said "no we don't have any mint." Like it's 1pm and you're out of such a basic ingredient? Okay I guess. Then 40 min later the waitress comes back all annoyed with a handful of mint saying "THEY MADE ME GO TO VELAS NEXT DOOR TO GRAB IT" okay? Trying to make me feel bad? I already said I don't want it when you told me you don't have the ingredients. Poor customer service. Same person told a family that was leaving "here is a card to leave a good review... I will give you 3 free Cervezas." Makes you wonder... On the last day, we had to leave by noon. We went to breakfast early around 730. Not much dairy free options. Omelette was good. I planned to get lunch by the pool prior to leaving. My wife went down around 1030, no one checked on her. I came down at 1100 and went to ENCANTO to ask about ordering since the website stated Pool service (includes food) starts at 1100. Lunch at the restaurant was 1200. Went to VICTOR and kindly asked him to place an order. He flat out rejected me saying Lunch doesn't start until 12. Well yes I'm here at the restaurant bc no one is checking on my wife down there, can we please get some lunch prior to leaving? His response? YOU HAD THE AMERICAN BREAKFAST. Come again? That's your response? That was hours ago. He said SORRY BUT THERE IS NO LUNCH. I said sir your website says otherwise. And I showed him. He said well that's a mistake. I said well can you make an exception? We literally have to leave and I'm willing to buy food. He straight up said no. I said okay well I guess we will leave your resort hungry then and head to the airport. TERRIBLE SERVICE. By the time I finished begging him for food, it was around 1120. I grabbed my wife and left to go finish packing. He saw us leave and ran and said I spoke to the chef and he will make an exception. Okay dude it's 1130 now. We are officially going to miss our flight. Why didn't you ask your chef at 11 when I was begging you to sell me food? No, instead you rejected us. Pros: Front desk staff is amazing. Danna and Yoseline should be upgraded to managers. They know what good customer service is with their warm, welcoming smiles. They always went out of their way to make sure our dinner reservations at VELAS resort were taken care of. The suite itself was VERY clean and bed was comfortable. Zero complaints there. It's nice that they offer bottled water at request. Definitely made us feel at home when it came to the suite. Another PRO is to be able to go to the restaurants at Velas. The service at Grand Velas restaurants was 10/10. Too bad that doesn't carry over to Mar Del Cabo "by Velas." Perhaps is better to just stay there next time and not bother with these boutique hotels. Definitely will not be staying at Mar Del Cabo again. I'm only giving it 2 stars for how amazing the front desk staff was. read more

I stayed at this hotel via recommendation from a friend. When I tell you this is the best hotel. The service is a 15/10. The employees go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. Everyone is so nice. More importantly the rooms are beautiful and very very clean. The whole resort is beautiful. There's a private beach, hammocks, cabanas, gym and swimming pool. Not to mention the restaurant is AMAZING!!! I've had one of the best vacations of my life and it's due to staying at this hotel. I actually got emotional when I had to leave. I came at the end of April so it was not crowded. I made relationships with the staff and am sad to not see them everyday. This place is a GEM. Hands down. a read more

I debated leaving a review for Mar del Cabo--not because it wasn't worthy of a great review but because I don't want too many people to find out about this hidden gem!! Mar del Cabo is located in the corridor on a pretty beach near Chileno Beach. We watched whales pass near the beach every day as small rays jumped out of the water. It was serene. The vibe is relaxed and reminiscent of old Mexico. The bougainvilleas that line the walkways and surround the palapa roofed restaurant are stunning. This is not a high end resort so set your expectations lower. Amenities (small gym, small bar, quiet pool) are limited and the rooms show that the building was built years ago. However, the rooms are very clean and the bed was more than comfortable. The restaurant (Encanto) is farm to table and serves delicious dishes presented in creative ways. The craft cocktails are excellent. The Pina Habanero is a must try!! The restaurant is worth a visit even if you don't stay at the hotel. We come to Cabo twice a year and have done so for the last seven years. We usually stay at higher end resorts in Medano or Pedregal but we will definitely come back to Mar del Cabo for a quick trip any time!! read more

We own a house just up the hill from Mar del Cabo and eat at the restaurant once or twice every month and always recommend it to friends who come to the area. As we own this home and another condo down here, this was the one restaurant we most highly recommended. It has the fine view and always great food. After Thursday evening, this all changed. Our party ordered 3 Martinis along with our food. The Martinis were prepared in wine glasses, bad enough,  but each tasted horrible.  The bartender evidently does not know how to make a good Martini and used way too much Vermouth. We each sent back our drinks and ordered something else.   When we got the bill for dinner, I noticed we were still charged for these 3 bad drinks. I asked to speak to the manager, assuming it was a simple oversight. He said, you ordered these, I made them, you must pay for them. I explained each one of us thought they tasted horrible.  He replied "that is only your opinion. I tried them and they were fine." He explained not only am I the manager, I am an experienced bartender and these were fine. What restaurant manager treats customers this way? He was literally arguing with me, in the restaurant, with other dinners listening that we should have to pay because what we thought were 3 horrible drinks was only our opinion.  The taste of every food and drink gives one an opinion if it tastes good or bad. If a patron says this drink/ food or whatever tastes bad, of course that is their "opinion." But every respected restaurant will try to make the customer happy and prepare something else and never charge what the customer did not like. I have never  in any restaurant in the world  have someone tell me I had to pay for something I did not like. Needles to say, our entire opinion of this establishment just took a steep dive to the bottom.  This manager should politely be asked to work in another occupation where he can insult clients. We now tell all friends and family to avoid Encanto and we will take our business to other restaurants who know how to properly treat guests. This "manager" is a reflection of the restaurant,  Mar del Cabo and Vela Resorts. And trust me, this is not a pretty image! read more

This resort was incredible, both because of how beautiful it is and all of the fantastic amenities and because of the amazing staff who made us feel like part of the resort family! Everyone was so kind and quick to help us, which made leaving so much more difficult! Every single item on the menu at the restaurant was perfect - I have never been a fan of clams, but the clam tacos were a highlight. If you come for breakfast you HAVE to try the pancakes and the eggs Benedict! The chocolate textures and carrot cake were two of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Chef Omar is absolutely incredible, I wish I could hire home to come cook for me every day! The staff at the restaurant were kind, happy to work around any dietary restrictions, and very attentive, the restaurant was definitely a highlight of our stay. Victor made sure we were fully taken care of and was sure a pleasure to talk to. Cesai, Sergio, and Antonio were amazing and so kind, we loved speaking with them and they all know exactly what to recommend - order what they tell you to and you will be happy you did!! At the front desk Alejandro and Javier made sure we were fully taken care of and the accommodations were ready for us every step of the way. They carried all of our bags every time, got us water, keys, or anything else we needed. Every single staff member greeted us with a smile every time we saw them. We truly appreciated how kind and welcome everyone was, I am sure there are some names missing here, but we were so thankful for everyone!!! Don't stay at this hotel. If you think you may have to cancel your reservation! I booked a reservation on their direct website back in August for a January 2024 stay. They took two nights deposit upfront, which was fine since their cancellation policy states you can cancel up to three days prior to your arrival. Our travel plans changed and I canceled the reservation back in early November. I have yet to receive a refund back to my credit card. I have emailed several times and called and all they say is it's taking accounting longer to refund your credit card. I asked to speak to a manager and I am still waiting on a call back from them. What company takes over a month to refund a credit card? No company should take this long to refund somebody their money back. It's absurd and unacceptable for it to take this long. read more

My wife and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary at this historic, boutique resort about midway between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It is one of the few resorts along the tourist corridor that isn't a large, all-inclusive property. It was truly delightful in a picture-perfect setting. The one restaurant/bar served consistently fresh food (shrimp paella was truly tasty) in a serene setting. During this off season, we had the 48-room Velas property mostly to ourselves. The staff proved personable and helpful and ready to meet our needs. Several other restaurants are a short walk to Mar del Cabo's sister property -- Grand Velas -- which lives up to its name. You do have to negotiate lots of stairs because the resort was built on a hillside, so you can work up an appetite climbing up and down to the spacious pool and restaurant.
