The food was lovely. The service was friendly and prompt. I give kudos for both. However, watching…read moreso very many servers stuffing food into their pieholes in the prep area without washing their hands or even changing their gloves was disturbing. I only witnessed one who washed her hands before friendly to handle pieholes food. I could get over the eating because I know as a waitress you grab bites when you can; but not washing after is gross.

The inside is very clean and countryfied in their decor, and the people who work here are very friendly and positive people. When you go there and are seated, you feel like you're a regular. It's hard to choose from the menu, because it's huge. The last time I went, I brought my grandson and we both decided right off that we will have breakfast. We are huge breakfast lovers. We chose what we wanted and ordered, our drinks came out and the food followed fast. Everything was perfect. They have some of the absolute best pancakes ever. I should've ordered the short stack (two pancakes) but I ended up ordering the large one by mistake. No worries, it was still fabulous. Lots of pecans and the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. Grandson ordered the meat lovers omelette and said it was the best one he's ever had. There was an almost unbelievable amount of meat in that omelette. I took a small bite and it was very good. We've had other things in the past, their eggs Benedict are superior as well as their hash browns. Before you go, do not neglect the dessert cabinet by the register. They make a fabulous rainbow cake.

I had the 1-egg plate with sausage, home fries, and toast. The kids had HUGE pancakes with bacon and hash browns. Very simple, well-cooked food. If I can recall correctly, I don't think anything was over $10-$12 dollars. (Cash only btw! But they have an atm inside) I wish we had places like this in Charleston. Sometimes it's hard to find unpretentious and unassuming places that treat their patrons like family instead of pandering to the tourists or trying to keep up with the trends. I wish the place was closer but...it gave me all of the nostalgia and the feeling of comfort away from home.

You already know Auntie D loves putting her dollars behind the sisters. But let's be clear: the food earns every bit of this praise. I have yet to leave disappointed. My chicken-fried chicken and French toast were absolutely worth the drive. My daughter had pancakes and chicken-fried chicken, and those scrambled eggs? Light, fluffy, and deserving of their own little round of applause. Mama thoroughly enjoyed her lunch and brought leftovers home. Took a quick nap, woke up, and finished them off. That to-go box never stood a chance. ...i Crack myself up.  Now, let's discuss these FRIED PICKLES. Light, crispy, airy, with that just-right dill tang. You get a good pickle inside a lovely crisp coating. And the ranch! Full of fresh, herbaceous flavor and on the thinner side, which I actually enjoy--it works beautifully on the salad and with those pickles. I don't need my ranch standing at attention; I need it tasting good! Crack of Dawn keeps giving me a reason to make that drive. Good food, a family business I'm happy to support, and three generations at our table leaving satisfied. Five out of five fried pickles from Auntie D! C'est si bon!

A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.
