I can't say enough nice things about Maracas. Grab a bite the other day before braving the crowds at The Outlet and it was magnificent. From what I understand, the original owner was a NY native who set up shop here and sold off the business, with everything in tact, to return back to NY. Luckily, the new owners didn't change anything because you should fix something that isn't broken. Grabbed an 8" cuban sandwich with the garlic hash browns while my lady grabbed the Philly with the same side. We rounded it out with a side of tostones and an Agua de Coco (with coconut chunks in it). The order was fast, the food was delicious, the portions were above exceptional, and the vibe is fun. Great decor and good music flows through the room. Can't hate on that...simple and delicious. Make sure you check it out. read more

After reading a brief description on Maracas, via Yelp, I had to go see for myself and inquire about ascertaining sustenance to feed the beast. I decided on the Cuban, which was my first time ever having one. Service was prompt and one of the associates asked how we were doing on a routine basis, which is always a good sign. How does it compare to a Miami Cubano? Lets not get ahead of ourselves... Its good but not Miami good. I am torn about this review. I think the food is good, but for some reason it seemed to taste better when the restaurant was located in the gas station. I don't like the fries, nor the hash-browns. The fries seem undercooked and reheated. The hash browns lack flavor. I do enjoy the sandwiches, however. I normally get the Cuban, or the Tripleta. I usually eat a portion of my sandwich there, and take the rest home. I can say that it makes for a good leftovers. The bathroom was a huge disappointment. I took my son in and the toilet was dirty, so I had to hold him up high in the air in order to let him potty. The owner seems invested and wants customers to be happy. He doesn't seem very friendly, but that may be a NY thing. Overall, because the owner seems so committed and the sandwiches are good, I rate it a 4. read more

This place is like a hidden jewel, its not your typical restaurant. My son had been bragging about it for some time so I decided to take him up on a lunch date there. This place is a remarkably delicious and unique place to the las cruces/ el paso area. I got one of their lovely sandwiches and it was just perfect! It even came with a little cup of candied peanuts for free to mimic the sound of maracas and to clean your pallet after you eat their lovely garlic hash browns! I couldn't get enough! Not bad, not good. Just a little run of the mill sandwich shop. I had the Cuban. In reality, I guess I just don't like Cuban sandwiches. Wife had hamburger, said it was fine, not great. Daughter had Philly with next to no meat. And the garlic hash browns Yelpers have been raving about? Greasy, cold, and under seasoned. In addition, the inside was (literally) about 100 degrees. They had a big industrial fan blowing the hot air around. It seemed to be cooler outside, and it was 95 outside! To wrap up, I won't return. read more

Good sandwich. I would said excellent. But the owner had not manners or education to care for the customer. Very rude to me and my sister. He try to be funny but to me was rude when I tell him I don't want onion in my sandwich. Then when we were eating he interrupt us asking about the food and when my sister said was good he jump saying "oh just good" in a rude manners. He piss up my day. If for no other reason have the Cuban! A massive traditional Cuban style sandwich that will leave you very satisfied. Very good quality. Ask prices on some of the specialty drinks before you order. I wanted to give this place 5 stars because el paso really needs a place like this. Ray is such a good guy and the food is really good but Maracas is just not 5 star worthy. I love the pulled pork so to me anything with it is great like the cuban or tripleta. I would always be told to get the philly cheese next time so finally I did. If it really is marinated 2 days find a better marinade Ray. It comes out dry and tasteless I was so dissapointed I wanted it to be great but it wasnt. It was just the right amount of peppers and onions and cheese but maybe I'm spoiled because my homemade specialty is a philly cheese. Maybe its to keep with "authentic" but this is el paso and you can improve upon an original. Toast that bun, throw on a little mayo or house sauce or something to spice it up. The other day I got a double meat breakfast burger, WOW. The bacon burger was great I just wish they left the egg yolk a little runny to ooze into the meat. When its cooked hard it just gets lost and you forget that you're eating a breakfast item. It wouldve helped too because again just like the great pork sandwhiches its just slightly on the dry side, Also it comes with garlic hashbrowns. I've brushed my teeth 4 times and still smell garlic on my breath lol. Not a complaint they are great. Also the location keeps it from 5 stars. I love a dive feel but this is just depressing. Keep working hard ray day after day, perfect what you do, get it cleaned up and I'll get my boy from Triple D to pay you a visit. read more

The food is great! Been a #1 fan since the day the original owner opened years ago. But ever since the new owner took over... the vibe there hasn't been the same. The food is still great but the new owner isn't friendly or welcoming at all. He lacks professional and social skills. The day we went to chk it out after the new owner took over, we were not welcomed at all. The new owner never even said hello or acknowledge we were even there. We were the only customer there. You would think he would have been happy to see us but instead he was on his phone texting or something. Eventually an employee helped us which the young man was super welcoming and friendly. Which should be the new owners attitude as well. Since that incident, we haven't been back. And we use to go there often. What a shame. read more

I'll reiterate what others have said about the Cuban sandwich -- it's amazing! This place is a good drive from where I live in El Paso, but it's totally worth the drive. The sandwiches they serve are large, I ordered a small and it definitely filled me up (and I'm a skinny guy). The cuban comes with fries. The owner is a great guy who obviously enjoys what he's doing. This is one of the places I'll miss when I leave here. read more
