Dr. Mouallem is the only dentist I've ever had who is invested in teaching you how to take care of your teeth. My wife and I both went to him for the first time 6 months ago and he gave us each a demonstration of proper brushing techniques, recommended Stimudents (wood toothpicks basically) instead of flossing, showed us how to use the Stimudents, and then proceeded to do the entire cleaning himself. I went today for a dental cleaning as I was visiting DC and wanted to have a deep cleaning as I used to get elsewhere. I was very surprised to see old instruments and a total absence of machinery. I got the cleaning but doubt about everything... sterilization of material, Xray the 1947 old way... close to 15 times being exposed..., etc. He tried negotiating if I would come for a deep cleaning, but declined... The material are really old and not reassuring. Think twice before setting an appointment... as I'll not myself come back or recommend. read more

Was very excited to try Dr. Mouallem after reading the reviews, but after waiting 35 minutes after the office was supposed to open for somebody to show up I had to leave and go to work. I understand that issues may arise in the morning, but the office should call patients when the staff is running late. So far it's been an hour and 15 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start and I haven't heard anything from the office. It's one thing to be behind on appointments, but another to not even show up to the office. I later called to ask for an explanation and was told the Metro was backed up (which it was), but it should not be on me to call and ask what happened. Dr Mouallem was great. He did the cleaning and xrays himself. It was the most thorough cleaning I've ever had. Unlike other dentists (who usually delegates the cleaning to somebody else and only spends 5 mins to check you), he took his time with me. I didn't feel rushed at all. He's a gem with his personal touch. I really felt the care and genuine concern. Her new assistant, Gilda, is awesome too. She was actually his patient for 23 years. If you need a dentist with a fancy office, high tech machines and a bunch of bells and whistles, you'd better keep looking. However, if you want a straightforward, professional, thorough dentist, you need to come here. Dr. Mouallem is the best dentist I have used. He is honest when you have issues, gives great dental advice, discusses any options you might have, and charges very reasonable rates. I sincerely believe had I continued to see my old dentist I would have been in danger of developing significant gum problems, but under Dr. Mouallem's care, I'm back on track to having a healthy mouth. I called Dr. Mouallem about a toothache that I had to take care of immediately since I was going out of the country. He said that the exam would be about $60. And he did exam my gum and said that it was a piece of popcorn that was causing irritation, the piece had already dissolved and he couldn't do much about it. I paid $40 for the exam on the claim that he wasn't sure how much insurance was going to cover. I now find out that the insurance paid $88 and he kept my $40. While the service was good, I feel like I was lied to about the price and would not go back to this doctor. read more

What a great experience with a dentist! Dr. Mouallem was calm, knowledgable, and was even able to recommend a high-quality toothbrush from a local pharmacy. He gave me a mini-tutorial on how to brush my teeth for maximum gum health and made repeated appointments to monitor my progress. I came in for an emergency appointment and returned several times for more treatments. He even recommended a good oral surgeon I could visit to have my wisdom teeth removed. His office assistant was very friendly and helpful. Billing was easy, because he participated in Delta Dental. He also understood my specific financial situation as a young professional and could explain to me my treatment options before I made a decision on how to proceed. His building was going through some construction at the time I visited (summer 2008), but that should be taken care of by now. I had hoped to provide feedback but was quite plainly told I can't come back. He started off very polite, nice, friendly, and helpful. That was until I'm there sitting in the chair with my gums numbed and he's trying to multi-task and take care of another client at the same time. (Note he doesn't have any assistant, other than the phone receptionist.) When I pointed out that this was unprofessional as he was in the middle of my appointment I was told that I can go elsewhere. I had two great dental appointments with Dr. Mouallem over the past year. Often times I feel rushed in and out at the dentist, feeling like I'm leaving with not much better a cleaning than I get from just brushing at home. Dr. Mouallem is different, he worked on my teeth for about an hour both visits. They were gleaming when he was finished. He's personable and performed the best cleaning I've had in the DC area. Excellent dentist! I have been going to Dr. Mouallem for over a year ago. He is a little old school, but unlike other dental practices, he does cleanings himself (as opposed to it being done by a hygienist). I also had a wisdom tooth extracted by him, and it was a quick and (almost) painless experience. He even called after my extraction to check on how I was doing. read more

He gave me brushing and flossing technique advice to a level of detail I have never received from any other dentist (including demonstrating for me on a fake set of teeth!). Dr. Mouallem is the best dentist I have ever known, and one of the most wonderful human beings one could have the pleasure to know. I cannot begin to envision how or why one of the other reviewers would come to believe that he could or would keep $40. He has gone out of his way to ensure I am not billed until we are certain insurance won't cover the procedure, and he takes his own time to argue a case with the insurer. I've moved around a lot and have had a lot of dentist, but I have never felt any of them merited writing a review for. As others have said he does the cleanings himself. He is very good at it, and keeps discomfort to a minimum. He gave me some very good advice on taking care of my teeth. He also remembers a lot about what is going on in my life, which is a nice personal touch. He's a very nice and sincere guy and cares about his patients tremendously. His receptionists have also all been very polite and flexible with scheduling. I'm sad that I'm moving yet again, and will need to find a new dentist. read more

Dr. Mouallem is a thorough, old school dentist who takes the time to talk to you and has excellent bedside manner. I have been a patient of his for the past 4 years and it is nice to go to a medical professional these days who not only takes the time to get to know you, but remembers your family and genuinely cares. The week after Christmas 2011, while he was on vacation, I called him for a dental emergency, and he came in, just to see me. Honestly, in a world where where patients are treated like an insuance claim than a person, it's really nice to have a doctor who kicks it ol' school and treats you like a person. Even though today should be the greatest day for me, because I get to tell myself that I finally completed the end of many dental treatments over almost 1.5 years, I have to say I feel so sorry for having to temporarily say "goodbye" to the most caring and best doctor I have ever met in the United States, Dr. Mouallem. I have had quite a few necessary dental procedures these past months, which has required me to visit Dr. Mouallem's office quite frequently in 2017. But this is because only Dr. Mouallem was able to identify dental issues that other dentists have not been able to take care of over the past decade. This wasn't an easy journey for me, as I have never enjoyed going to doctors and as I am such a sensitive person when it comes to injections and any kind of other doctor treatments. However, I believe the most important part of being Doctor Mouallem's patient is his patience and his supervised planning, as well as his great personality. Even in the first 5 minutes of a visit, Dr. Mouallem's conversation helps you to forget about the dental procedure. He is always thoughtful, very kind, helpful, and whenever needed, he and Terry, his wonderful assistant, were always there for me. Also, bear in mind that during each conversation, I always learned something new from him. Yes, he can talk to you about your dental history, but his delightful conversation can range to even local wineries. I even found the best, fresh apples in my life after hearing from Doctor Muallem about The Apple House near the Shenandoah Valley. He always sets his patients at ease before any procedure. I want to thank my husband for introducing me to Doctor Mouallem, because Dr. Mouallem has changed my life! And I also wanted to share my full appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Doctor Mouallem, and his assistant Terry, for taking such good care of me and giving me the chance to learn how important dental treatments are for one's overall health. He is one of the best dentists I have had. He does all the cleaning himself and is very diligent and gives good advice on oral hygiene. Quite easy to get appointments and they are quite flexible. The facility is old school without unnecessary bells and whistles (probably because he does not do surgery) and is quite efficient.
