Honestly, I haven't written many reviews on Yelp, but I really felt compelled to do so after my visit to Marcello's two weekends ago. I'll preface everything I am about to write by saying this...The intention of this review is to hopefully snag the attention of an owner or manager at Marcello's who can take some action and make some much needed changes, namely on organization and timeliness...despite the food was very good. The night started by us arriving 10 minutes before our party-of-two, 8:30 PM reservation, no one was was at the hostess counter, we waited at least 15 minutes until someone came back addressed us. After being seated, no bread, water, or drinks came until almost 20 minutes later...this is unacceptable, I'm sorry. There's no excuse in the book - the restaurant was busy, but I've seen 150 times busier with less staff on the floor in many places. And before I get someone commenting on this that "I don't understand" "I've never worked in a restaurant before" and whatever you wanna throw at me...Well, I also worked in hospitality for a long time, high-end restaurants too who would get PACKED on the weekend, and yes...there were nights when we were under-staffed, over-booked, and stressed beyond belief...but none of that matters, especially to your patrons. Your patrons come in, looking to get service, not to get ignored...we only had one drink each (not by choice), waters were only filled up once, and it took us nearly 2 and half hours total of dining until we could leave. Our waiter that night at Marcello's (while extremely nice) was literally running all over the restaurant, it appeared he was working in three different sections, yet there seemed to plenty of wait-staff around doing nothing. Everything took forever to get, and when I say "everything" I mean our food... This is a direct result of poor management, or management who just doesn't care of enough about their employer or business. Total shame too, because that personable waiter with the great attitude had absolutely ZERO guidance that night from anyone...Perhaps I'm wrong, maybe it was simply he, who was just that unorganized...but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt after reading a number of reviews on here that encompass the exact poor experience we had. The only reason I gave Marcello's 2 stars was because the food was truly incredible, but that doesn't excuse the poor service....You're in the SERVICE INDUSTRY.... and with that said, we will honestly never go back to Marcello's, ever...And one more thing - unfortunately we did not get a chance to eat dessert, after it took almost 30 minutes for our waiter to bring over a dessert tray, yes, that's right...I said it took 30 minutes to see a dessert tray. By that point, my girlfriend and I were there for nearly 2 and half hours, and it was time to go. Again, I hope this finds a manager or owner....you have really, really, great food....but your poor management and service is going to kill this place, I guarantee it. All around not a great place to dine. Went there with a reservation Friday night. Had to wait 45 minutes after our reservation time as we didn't want to sit on stools in the crowded bar area. Waitress was very pleasant however had to many tables to wait on. We ordered a calamari appetizer-came out quickly and was good. We ordered two macaroni dishes and one chicken malanese. The macaroni's dishes came out along with the side of mashed potatoes and broccoli for the chicken dish but no chicken dish. After patiently waiting 15 minutes, I called the manager over and he said are you kidding me....walked away into the kitchen and never saw him again. The waitress came to the table at that point and said oh it's coming out...there was a mix up in the kitchen. Highly doubtful that there was a mix up as when the chicken finally came out (22 minutes) after the pastas dishes and sides were served, the chicken was pounded so thin and due to it being fried it was completely over cooked. Waitress advised her manager would be over and thank god Mr. Personality did come to our table cause he is useless....took 1/2 the price of the overcooked chicken off the bill (like 13.00) is going to break him. I wouldn't go back again even if I was given a gift certificate as it's just not worth it. Better places to select from. Place should earn a zero. read more

Really great Italian food and lively bar area. We came the night before my sisters wedding at locust farm in Jobstown and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The bruschetta was so good and everyone was enjoying themselves. I recommend making a reservation if possible because it was really packed (but it was a Saturday and there aren't many options in the area ). read more

I personally think the pizza is burnt & better so may other places & the food is okay but not worth the price . The alcohol drinks are good& the salads but for $100+ for drinks& a salad yea no thanks going elsewhere. read more

We had a corporate event at Marcello's last night - the food, service, and drinks were all spot on. After enjoying a stroll in downtown Bordentown, My Wife and I decide to eat dinner at Marcello's. As soon as we enter I felt a good ambience, smooth music playing in the background etc. For drinks I started with a "old fashioned" well made however I would preferred one or two ice cubes rather a large amount of small ice cubes. That was all good once I viewed a well selective list of Bourbon, Scottish etc. Kudos to the bartender or whoever created the list. I would recommend "Bootlegger 21". My Wife had baked ziti, which she said she enjoyed. I had the New Strip steak with veggies. I love my steaks and enjoy having them medium cook. Unfortunately when my entrée arrived the steak was well done(note: well flavored steak).Our lovely waitress decided to let the chef know that it was over cook and was more than willing to make another to my Liking. I personally don't like to let food go to waste so I did not to return the steak back. She took an extra step took off my old fashion off the bill. I also noticed the manager or maybe the owner greet the customers interact with them thru out the restaurant. Which I can say shows a sense of appreciation and loyalty to "Marcello's " and his customers. Awesome! All in all 4-5 just cause im a stickler when it comes to steak. I will definitely come back! Apps Wood fired wings, nice prep. Chopped antipasto salad was disgusting and small for the price. Not that we wanted more. But the chopped salad was served then the wings 10 min later? Red wine served overly warm. One entree came out while still eating the only edible app. Then the rest of the table was served 10-15 min later. Not sure why our waiter thought that was ok? Never got my salad that was served with the entree, waiter specifically asked soup or salad, then forgot. The drinks here are amazing! The food is fantastic! The atmosphere is pretty casual so the fact that the bill gets very high very fast is disappointing. I've been here twice and both times it has cost more than I would have spent at a nice steak house. I could see past this, if it weren't for the one server who I had on both visits. The first time, he was incredibly inattentive. I cut him a lot of slack because covid has made things hard on everyone, but when I gave him my credit card to pay the bill, he never returned with it. He was at another table having a very long conversation with one of his friends and I was very patient. Eventually though, I noticed on my phone the notification from my credit card of the charge had come through over 30 min earlier! The server had left his friend and was nowhere to be seen. I was already late to meet someone so I went to the host stand inside (I was seated outside) and found my server there on the phone with someone from the table that had been next to mine. It turns out he thought my credit card that he still had was actually theirs and that they had left it behind. Somehow he had charged it for my bill nonetheless. It is a high profile card and I think he must have assumed I didn't look the part and the young professional group did. Had he bothered to check in on us any time in the more than 30 min prior, he would have known that was not the case. Nothing was done to make right the fact that we had waited more than 3/4 hour to leave the place after we finished our food and drinks. Despite all this, I didn't leave a negative review. I've worked in restaurants and I understand how hard it can be, and that one crappy server shouldn't be allowed to bring down an entire place. Unfortunately, when I gave them another chance today I had the same server. Once again, the food and drinks were incredible. Unfortunately the server was pure drama the entire time we were there. He complained about the number of servers(I think he felt there were too many servers for the number of tables so he wouldn't get enough) this was surprising since he paid very little attention to the tables he had. Then he told the bartender (in a loud manner that sounded like he was informing his boss) that he was looking for a new job. I may try this place again in the future, but only if that server is not there when I check in. read more

My fiance and I went here for Valentine's Day dinner (mainly because his best friend is the head chef there, though his creations never fail to please) and we couldn't have made a better choice. The meal included some of the best food I've had in quite some time, and it's a shame the V-Day menu (an all-chocolate smorgasbord that left us full by the first entree but determined to sample everything) seemed to feature special-occasion-only selections. Though the mezzaluna ravioli (which was like eating a ravioli stuffed with pumpkin pie filling) and the soup (a white-chocolate, coconut milk and spicy peanut concoction handed down to Earth from God himself) better become menu staples because.... oh. Food that good needs to happen all the time. The bottle of red wine was pretty great, too, though the champagne (being some of the best I've ever had) absolutely stole the spirits show. And the cannoli, of course, were so good that I would have happily eaten a dozen or so more despite my stomach's protests of being packed too full. The restaurant is divided into outdoor dining (which is obviously closed during the cold months), a cozy little family-friendly pizzeria and an intimate dining area. We were seated in the dining room, which had the perfect atmosphere, lighting, decorations and music to accompany a romantic dinner. My only complaint (and, again, I'm not sure if the seating was changed around just for this one night) is that we were packed so tight that neighbouring tables had to be moved a bit if anyone wanted to get up during the meal. This was one of the best first impressions I've had of a place in ages. We're already planning to go back once it gets a little warmer and I can't wait to sample as much as I can from the rest of the menu. read more

They try... I have been a dozen times in the past 8 years. The service always ruins it. The food is fine, even good sometimes. Big family meals to the take out slice, always let down. Hey buddy if you burn your finger on a hot slice, your fault. If you put your burnt finger in your mouth after, then try and serve the slice with that same hand... that might be the fault of your folks or whoever taught you hygiene and food safety. This restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Before i write a review of three stars or less i usually give the place at least 2 visits. Over the last 4 years we have been here about 5 times. Some things we have found: 1. they are over priced for the quantity and quality of food you receive. 2. the service has been hit or miss 3. the food is inconsistent with flavor- either too salty or no flavor at all 4. the inside dining room for dinner is too cramped for a relaxing night out. 5. they take a while to make the food and serve it 6. YOU NEED RESERVATIONS on a Friday/Saturday Night I do see they are expanding the restaurant and it looks really cool inside, however I am very apprehensive of returning. Specifically, the server made food recommendations without giving prices. i ordered a vietnemese style seafood soup "toms yum" that was supposed to have lobster, scallops, shrimp, etc in it and it was a broth with finely ground up seafood that was undiscernable as to whether it was seafood at all. i did not enjoy or finish it. I explained this to the server and he still kept it on the bill... and it was $35.00!?! I was so upset i paid the bill and made the decision to not go back. read more

Their food is great, the servers and managers are very friendly, the service is slow. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Even though it took a while for the food to come out, their food tasted great. - Their fire baked bread was very soft in the inside and crisp on the outside. - GARLIC KNOTS come out in fours and are relatively cheap. They are full of flavor and has a very soft center. I would recommend this for any carb lover. - We also go the COZZE for the appetizer, which is mussels in garlic sauce or red sauce. We chose the garlic sauce. It was very flavorful and seasoning was great. Their mussels are the small sized kind, which was fresh. - As for the entrées, we got SHRIMP FANTASIA, which is shrimp wrapped in prosciutto topped with mozzarella cheese and spinach. It comes with angel hair pasta in their garlic sauce. It was saltier than their other dishes; I believe they didn't consider the seasoning of the shrimp. - The SCAMPI TRIO has a variety of seafood on top of linguine in garlic sauce. It was the same flavor as the COZZE but just with additional seafood and linguine along with their mussels. We wouldn't have ordered this if we knew it was going to be the same flavor/dish but regardless, it was good. - They also had a GRILLED WATERMELON SALAD from the special menu, which had an Asian taste to the dressing. It also came with shrimp in it. It was surprisingly tasty and mixed very well with all the ingredients in it. - I also had a chicken dish, which came with eggplant and mozzarella cheese on top over penne. It was great. I would recommend this dish. Overall, their food is excellent and their staff are very friendly. But the service is just slow. So don't go if you're in a hurry but if you are up for a long meal with friends and/or family, I would recommend this place. read more

Took my mom here for lunch on her birthday. Food was average, service was pretty lousy. Started off with the lobster bisque, which was tasty but mediocre. I wish there was more lobster in it. The bread they gave the table was good and the dipping sauce was very tasty. For the main course, we shared the vegetable pizza pie. I was not really a fan. Not enough cheese or flavor. Half of our party seemed to like it, the other half not so much. The hostess/waitress/possibly an owner (?) was pretty rude. She seemed annoyed the whole time we were there even though there was only one other table. She rushed us along in ordering and eating. When my mother and her friend were deciding whether to get two salads or one, the waitress just said "I'll get two" and left! She and the busboy kept trying to clear the table before we were done eating. And when we were done eating and asked if she could take our picture, she got annoyed and said she was busy. According to my dad who's been there before, this is typical of the service there. read more

Walked in and were warmly greeted by a gentleman who may be the owner. Not a big place, but we got the last table on a Tuesday night. Clearly a popular spot, as there was one long table with a group of 12-14. Refreshing that the bar didn't even have a TV. Two in the party had the Ricotta Walnut Ravioli, which looked tasty, but I picked the risotto special, which was excellent. All of us started with the mushroom bisque. very nicely done. My family has visited Marcello's three times now. Each and every time has been a pleasure. Starting with the service, I show up with my two twin boys. They're 6 month olds, so probably not every restaurant owner's dream patrons. Still, from when we came in to when we left, we were fully accommodated, and treated like family. That doesn't happen everywhere. The manager was friendly and generous with his time; our servers, gracious and respectful and attentive. Also, I've got a running joke. Every time I go to a restaurant with the boys, I ask the server "What selection of breast milk do you have in back?" Just to see who's sharp. The server, and sometimes bartender, at Marcello's has won this category. He replied, "Well, we have some, but I wouldn't trust any from in back--they're all drinking." Loved it. OK, the food is amazing. We've only had the pizzas and the calzones, and will try other things on the menu as need be. But, the pizza. My god. I've had some great pizzas. Lived in NYC, day trip to New Haven, made it a point to spend some time in Naples. This pizza is amazing, and runs up with the best of the lot. Coal fired, crispy on the bottom, Brooklyn styled. Just enough toppings and sauce and cheese. Tasty, folds like it's supposed to. The sausage pizza was amazing, but I would also recommend their take on the Hawaiian pie, using pulled pork and pineapple and an amazing habanero reduction. The calzone, too, is fantastic. My wife and I will go there for a night out and split a calzone (we've settled into chicken and broccoli). We can split the calzone, hang out in the gorgeous semi-outdoor patio, have a few iced teas and get out for under 30 bucks. It's wonderful. So, yes, you need to go here. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a pizza nut; like I seriously have some sort of as-yet-undiagnosed medical condition. That's how nuts I am about pizza. My wife, son, and I go for pizza just about every Friday, and have sampled the best the east coast has to offer. We've been to Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Haven, Providence, Old Forge, and all over New Jersey in search of the best pies. Having read all of the positive reviews about this place, I was really excited to try it out. So my wife, my sleep-deprived 3-year old son (he refuses to take naps and thus sometimes gets really cranky when he feels tired), and I decided to make the 35 minute trek to Bordentown to try this pizza. We arrived, cranky child in tow, ready to sample this pizza. We ordered two pies: an old fashioned tomato pie (their specialty) and a brooklyn-style tomato pie (essentially the same as the old fashioned tomato pie, but with shredded mozz instead of fresh mozz). Let me explain the pizza to you: parmesan. That's really all I can say. When our waitress brought it to our table, I said to my wife, "it smells really parmesan-ny. I hope it doesn't taste like that". Much to my chagrin, it tasted like a slab of parmesan, coated in a parmesan demi glace and drizzled with a fresh parmesan reduction. I have never in my life been so overwhelmed with the taste of parmesan as I was when I ate this pizza. The sad thing is that most times I have something I don't like, it is usually the case that it is just bad in many respects, or that it is difficult to pinpoint the culprit. In this case, the culprit was clear cut: it was that damn parmesan. If they simply put about a quarter the amount of parmesan on it, it would actually be pretty good. I don't get it. As Tom Colicchio always says on Top Chef, don't they taste this before they serve it? No one who tastes this pizza could possibly think that there was NOT a ludicrous amount of parmesan. Stopped in for a few slices one day. Pizza looked good but was just ok. The guy behind the counter made it WAYYYYYYYY to hot after I asked him to not make it hot and even had to then ask him again to take it out of the oven as I dont want them cooked 2x. The Sicilian slice was huge and 1 slice of that is a meal in itself. Other than that, place was just ok. Owner/Manager person seems kind of rude. Wouldn't let me friend and her child who was also there sit outside for some pizza slices cause its a "dining area". I dont get that... 90 degree weather, no customers outside with lots of tables, and the only thing they had on the tables were forks/knives. Not really a lot to setup / cleanup if someone eats out there. Poor business sense if you ask me. Anyway, I go by this place 4-5x a week after work to drop my coworker off at the local train station. I will sooner take an out of my way drive to go elsewhere than probably go back. What sucks is I hear their pizza is actually pretty good too - guess i shall never know more. read more

Well, on the website it says happy hour until 7pm. This applies to sitting at the bar only. Apparently sitting 3 feet from the bar doesn't apply!!! Oh, and the calamari with aioli- PASS on this. Unless you like lemon, a lot of lemon. Overall quite disappointing. To sum up: 2 drinks - $18 1 -app(about)$15 Total $35 $41 for a BIG disappointment !! read more

This place is completely different than pre-renovation. We got the portobello salad (awesome) and two pizzas (quattro carne and the Brooklyn pie). Both pizzas tasted like they were frozen at some point. Service is also exceptionally slow. Like 20 minutes for a drink slow. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

This was okay at best. I went here on a Wednesday night, so the place was pretty dead. The maître d' was great, but the service otherwise was slow and bland. The food was okay, but overpriced for okay food. The atmosphere and location is really nice, and the food might suit someone else's tastes, but I found my pasta dish to be bland with a simple lemon flavor to it - not good simple though. read more

Went to Marcello's after a long while. Hubs and I wanted a nice dinner and a drink. Our waiter was ok but hard to understand. I ordered a glass is wine ($9) for a basic wine. I saw other wine coming out in a real wine glass. Wonder how much that was? My bill said Fini wine $9 for a house wine sad they have to charge so much. Gotta say the place was busy! Good for them! Dinner was OK and just OK. We'll not be going for another long while. read more

We went last night for our first time. From the very beginning, service was excellent. Thank you, Michael! He gave us recommendations on favorites and they did not disappoint! We tried the Flank steak egg rolls, stuffed mushrooms, homemade pappardelle pasta and the fig pizza. All which were very good. Great happy hour prices. The outdoor patio feel was awesome but it does fill up quickly. We will be back! read more
