I was hoping to finally, after 20 years and 5 or 6 pairs of progressive lens glasses through those 20 years, get a pair that I could acclimate to and use full time. I never had any success. None of them ever worked well enough to be useful and ended up in the junk drawer. The first pair of progressive lens glasses I bought from Dr. Koon worked PERFECTLY for distance but I still could not use them for close up reading. I really just thought it must be ME or MY EYES so I just used them for distance/driving/tv etc. and switched to my computer glasses for all close up reading. When I went back for my yearly check up in early 2026 I explained what I just described above to her and she was very concerned and disappointed that I hadn't let them know so I could get reevaluated and get it fixed. But, like I said, I truly just thought it was me and pretty much resigned myself to always needing 2 pairs of glasses. Dr. Koon assured me that was not the case and she was determined to get this resolved with positive results. I ordered a new pair of progressive lens glasses (kept my old ones to use strictly for driving when I need sun glasses because they work perfect for that). When the new glasses came in I took them home and wore them for several weeks. I had a follow up appointment for an eye issue 6 weeks later and when I was there for that she asked about the progressive lenses. I told her, nope, they still don't work for reading close up and she was so concerned. She did a repeat thorough exam (which I was not there for) and remeasured where the correction lenses should start and end while I was wearing them. After measuring she said, they seem to be off by just a teeny-weenie bit, so minute that it wouldn't bother most people. She decided I'm not most people and that tiny bit of adjustment was needed for them to work for me so she sent them back to the manufacturer with the minor adjustment. I just went back in recently to pick them up and OH MY GOODNESS - THEY ARE ACTUALLY WORKING FOR ME!!!! As I'm sitting here writing this review I'd really rather be in her shop thanking her in person (which I'll do soon). The time and care she spent with me was so very appreciated and I could not be happier with my new frames and progressive lenses that actually are perfect for my eyes. AND, I must also mention her front office staff! These ladies are so friendly and welcoming, eager to help with whatever is needed and definitely will go the extra mile for a task when needed. So, if you're in need of a new eye doctor I am giving her the highest recommendation I could possibly give - it is such a relief to finally have glasses that work perfectly for my eyes and I will look forward to visiting her office for any reason just to say hello to her wonderful staff.

But that seems to be the trend lately with a lot of practices. First of all, I have a large amount of respect for office staff. I believe they work hard to make the patient's experience a positive one. However, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, I wanted to report a phone problem to the office manager. I politely asked to see her. She never came out. Realizing she is a busy person, I asked that she call me -- which never happened. Here was the issue, which I thought to be significant. I had an eye issue which I thought needed to be addressed. I started calling about 1130 on Tuesday morning, September 1. The message on the phone said the voicemail was full and no one was picking up. I tried about 10 times -- so did my husband -- with the same message -- mailbox is full. Then I tried texting -- no response to my message. I tried online. Actually, my reason for the visit didn't fit any of the criteria listed. I tried for about three hours to get through. My husband tried. Finally, I just got in my car and drove over to the facility to make an appointment. (Wednesday -- there are no doctors in the office which I find rather unsettling). On my scheduled appointment, I thought the office manager should be aware of the situation I faced int rying to make an appointment -- however, as stated above, there was no communication between the two of us even though I respectfully asked. I thought it was important that they be aware of the issue. Again I have total respect for staff but I felt the phone issue was critical.

My eyes have been sensitive to light since the start of surgeries at 17!. so to not have a big bright light in your face the wholetime made a big difference and kept my anxiety level calming. His bedside manner isn't welcoming, big personality or approachable, very to the point manual . I will say I wholeheartedly appreciate him because He told me things that in all my years nobody has told Me!! so my mouth dropped several times he was realer than real, honest he gave you the good, the bad and the possibilities of and the worse of things but I needed to know!!... After the Visit I just cried I wasn't expecting all the news and omg the risk of having cataract surgeries in depth and the fact it has fragments that can fall to the back of your eye is WOOOOW!! never knew that ever!! I've been coming to this location for over 10 years. Dr Gerald Thompson is my Optometrist. Now his…read moredaughter Dr Kathryn Thompson is the owner though I still see Dr Gerald Thompson. Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services.

I was greeted immediately when I entered. Once I completed my paperwork it was a short wait to see the doctor. They have awesome modern technology. Once my exam was complete I went immediately to the ophthalmologist to assist with my contact lens order. My contact arrived quickly. This will be my forever Eve doctor.
