This place is a hidden gem in Salem. The champurrado was delicious, full of flavor and not overly sweet. Burritos are classic (rice, beans, salsa, choice of protein), I would recommend adding cheese and sour cream. The asada tacos were good. Groups bigger than 4 will have to sit at separate tables. I wouldn't know, never been to Salem before... so I took her word for it. Good news! She was not wrong at all...well Marco's is the only spot I had tacos in Salem...lol. Marco's sells legit some tacos. The tacos here do remind me of the street tacos in Mexico. While not as good as the Tacos in Mexico, these are certainly tasty. The venue is authentic street tacos and food, so it's based on price and what I expect from a mom n pop taco shop from California--maybe not perfectly Mexican. It was all that, especially for the price. Maybe this is what is the norm in Salem, I can't say. But it was more than I expected. My wife got bean tacos and a burrito to bring home. There was something about it she didn't like. She suspected the beans were cooked in lard which makes sense, but she asked for "vegetarian" and thought there was a shared language. Many folks think vegetarian is just no meat, but when you cook mean and no meat food with the same equip, like Burger King's veggie burger, it does indeed become meat. Beans cooked in lard even more so corrupts the food. Regardless, I thought they were great! Full of beans, cheese, and ensalada stuffing. Unlike pizza or chowder, not so great the next morning. But fresh, they made me think I was back to my roots in SOCAL! Both red and green sauces were what I envisioned. It was take-out and I didn't use the bathrooms, so I have no input on cleanliness or service. I'll go back sometime and report on the inside experience since other reviews have pointed out serious faults in that regard (Sheesh, how hard can it be?). But for now, I'm a liker! read more

Not the best that I've ever had but if you're craving a fish burrito this would do the trick Fish Tacos - SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE BURRITO! The fish is nice and crispy and tastes amazing with the salsa they give you. Usually this is my go to order when I eat here. Carne Asada Fries - I love that their fries are on the skinnier side because it makes it super crispy. I would definitely recommend this! He replied " so? no other restaurants remove them, that's just how they come" He then went back into the kitchen and brought back a shrimp that was so frost bitten that Mr. freeze from Batman would have been impressed. Let me start by saying I really love the tacos here. The taste is great and the food price is pretty decent. I frequent it a fair amount. My issue is the price gouge and stinginess on things like sauce. If you eat in, you can have the bottle of sauce but not until your order comes. If you get it to go you revive 1 sauce for every 3 tacos. Now, this may seem like plenty but the size of the sauces is the issue. At first the sauces came in a larger container but for the past couple of years they come in a 1/2 oz cup. I am attaching a photo for reference on the size. On top of that, if you ask for more you are paying .25 cents for each extra 1/2 oz sauce. I went to school in Salem and after discovering the place, I went there every week. For the many times I've been there, I offer these tips to you. 1) I've read the reviews; yes, it can be busy. But call ahead and place your order-they are busy for a reason. You can also go straight up to the register and bypass the line if you call ahead. If you want to sit down and enjoy your tacos, plan ahead! 2) If you are craving these tacos on Sunday, try their Lancaster mall location across town. Same food and same owners. 3) If you are paying with a card, you'll need to purchase more than $5 worth of food. 4) Always ask if they have tamales-they hardly have them, but when they do it's worth getting. I come to Salem every year to visit family and love hearing about the up and coming restaurants that have popped up. I actually heard about this place from someone on the plane ride over and also from my brother when I arrived. This place has a lot going for it. The prices are inexpensive and the food is decent. I tried the pastor (marinated pork) tacos and the carne asada tacos. Both were fresh, but I wasn't overwhelmed by the flavors. I really liked their red sauce, however, it added another dimension of flavor. It's extra for a snack plate which is chips, salsa, and beans. But overall a good deal. The service was good once someone helped us at the counter, however, we had to wait several minutes before the person even acknowledged us even though no one else was in line. 3/24/15 update I gave Marcos a 5 star review on yelp because I love the food. However, I was disappointed in the service today. They give 1 tsp hot sauce no matter how much you order. I ask for extra hot sauce every time I order but ever get it. So today I checked my order before leaving. Sure enough, one hot sauce. So I asked them for more and the 3 girls there started arguing about giving me another hot sauce!! Why? If you don't want to give extra hot sauce why don't you say so while I'm ordering instead of agreeing and then not giving it? If it is such a big deal, put a sign up! Then the younger girl wouldn't give me a drink cup because she didn't have a straw. Even though a drink comes with the order! !!!!!SCAM ALERT!!!!! Ok so until tonight... I used to love this place. I ordered myself and my girlfriend 2 carne asada burritos with sour cream inside. Which we have been ordering for the last few times. But the last couple... they have charged us and left the sour cream out of the burrito. Which I'm not the guy to complain about something like that. I didn't call or say anything the first 3 times it happened. But this time I noticed a pattern. After all it's only 50 cents for the addition so I called for some help. The girl on the phone said she was going to talk to the cook. The cook (whoever the liar is, probably someone with ownership in the company cutting corners) insisted that "she" added sour cream in both. Which was a lie. She went to take them back and I said "this one is more eaten than the other one so if you don't want to remake both please just remake one and give the bigger one back to me. I was excited to eat some delicious tacos since it has been a while since I've enjoyed delicious Mexican food. The small restaurant was filled with people at the tables eating and more people in the line. I was not greeted when I got up to place my order of tacos. I only wanted to try one before I ordered more of them to see if I liked it or not. I typically don't carry cash so I had to order a bigger order since they have a minimum $5.00 card policy. Marcos is a staple in Salem, OR. I've come here for years and am rarely disappointed. From a solo taco binge to a large dinner party with 16 people and everywhere in between, Marcos comes through. Prices are really good, and I never feel like I'm getting skimped out on ingredients. I rarely give five stars to a restaurant anymore, but tonight as I dined at the taqueria for the umpteenth time, I realized this place is very deserving of just that.
