We stopped in here as we had lunch at a nearby restaurant before doing our grocery shopping, noticed Marc's, and decided to check it out. First off, the vibe here is very old-school early-1970s local neighborhood store. Its stock is...well...jumbled. It's got lawn items & clothing & dishware & ...automotive??...& whatnot on one side, food on the other, and not very clear sections. I mean, the sections are *marked*, but after finding certain specific items in at least five different & separate sections -- they need some serious organizational help. I normally don't mind scavenger hunts, but not in a store where I'm trying to get what I need and go home. Selection is basic (someone in another review compared it to Aldi's, but it's not as organized as Aldi's), though with a lot of name brands. Everything is pre-packaged; no bulk items (save candy) and limited selection of those. However, to the good, there were surprises: they've got a decent amount of sugar-free, organic, & international items (chorizo!), the produce section was well-stocked & fresh, and they had a lot of local/ohio-made items. The biggest "to the good" was the pricing: it was easily MUCH cheaper than Kroger's. So if you don't mind a bit of disorganization, definitely give this place a try! read more

This store has went downhill. It is so dirty , there is never more than one cash register open, and they are slower than molasses. Poor customer service as well. I will no longer shop here. read more

Pretty rundown store. The produce department is downright scary. Not to mention when I was there a bat kept diving at me. Yes a real bat. The only saving grace of this store is they have a huge variety of imported pasta sauces. Like two full aisles. That was impressive but after seeing that produce and dodging that crazy bat I won't be visiting anytime soon. read more

I was excited to find this place carried a few items my mother likes at good prices - she doesn't drive so I help her with some shopping. BUT last time I picked her up packaged Bob Evans sides, both turned out to be moldy when she got to using them though they were well within the expiration date. When I had time to take her back to the store 3 weeks later - receipt in hand - we were told that unless you report a bad item within 2 TO 3 DAYS that you are out of luck. No refund or compensation. Then we went back to pick up a couple of other refrigerated items and both things I wanted were expired. Low rent. read more

I don't come very much to Marc's. The layout and design is slightly drab and old school. I'm not a fan of the color scheme. It's easy to find stuff here but they don't carry a ton of options. They do have brand name stuff, beyond meat stuff, a deli, and some good discounted items. I can't tell if it's much cheaper than Walmart. I got gummies for a $1 at Walmart, but it was almost a dollar more for the same brand here... The staff is nice and they seem to be around if you need help. Parking can be chaotic as it shares a lot with other businesses in the same strip. read more

Clevelanders will recognize this bargain grocery store name right away. what I like is that they have a great produce section, and availability of a wide variety of wild bird seed. The shelves are well-stocked and the staff is helpful. The front of the store often has nice seasonal flowers available especially in the spring. read more

Don't stop here to quickly pick up a couple of things. Out of the dozen or so checkout lanes, only 2 were open. No express lanes. Lots of people in line with full carts. I ended up just putting my items down and leaving. Too bad, prices looked to be low. read more

This is a weird store, but the deals keep me coming back. A few important things to note about this place. It is a discount store (think WalMart) and a grocery store all in one. This means you can buy your holiday decorations, winter coat, Buckeyes gear, shower curtain, bedding, and eggs all in one place! I see this as a positive...but others may not. As fellow Yelpers have noted, the staff here is not very helpful or friendly. You will have to find what you are looking for without assistance and please don't expect any smiles. This is no Disneyland. The prices on the discount store side are crazy cheap. I got good quality winter gloves for $4 and a yoga mat for $5. The seasonal items are always changing and this is a great place to get holiday decor. I typically do not grocery shop here as it lacks the variety I need (gluten free, etc). read more

I checked this place out on a whim while going to another store. I'd never heard of it, and decided to check it out and found a big discount grocery store! They have a pretty decent selection of just about everything at cheap prices! I was especially pleased by how much sugar free stuff they have, which is often hard to find! So, if you're diabetic, this is a good place! The only thing that was so-so is the produce section, but I figure I can get almost everything here and if I have to get one or two things elsewhere, so be it. I've started doing the bulk of my shopping here and am saving a ton of money on groceries! They're a bit short staffed at the cash registers, but that's everywhere right now, so I can't hold that against them. I'm just glad to have found a place that has both great prices and a big enough selection to make it worthwhile! read more

The manager working 10/17/23, male mostly bald probably late 30s to early 40s, accused an elderly couple of stealing. Instead of calmly explaining to them the situation he talked down to them, raised his voice, treated them like they were stupid for not understanding, and threatened to call the cops. All that happened was they had to stop a sale and moved their cart while the wife found whatever she was looking for. The husband thought that everything had been paid for so they started to leave. It seemed like there was a barrier either with language and this man did nothing to try to help the situation, just treated them like garbage. The husband finally understood that a payment was still needed and went up to the customer service register to pay, that's when I left. I waited in the parking lot to make sure they left safely and were able to get their groceries. read more

You may ask the attendee's (aka staff) if there is something you need but please be kind and courteous to them as they are just as much normal human beings as you are. While shopping you may notice there may be a wide array of selections in all scattered areas. Please don't mind this as every store we have is pretty much a scattered maze. In each section you may run into your typical household items (kitchen ware, hardware, household cleaning products) and then right ahead you will notice the food is right next to decor don't mind this as we just believe this is a good marketing technique. The food prices are hard to beat your normal Kroger or Giant Eagle grocery store may be a little higher because they come from the distributor. We break those prices in half from our competitors. We want you to feel good about what your buying and we stand behind our prices and products. It puts me in mind of a small town grocery store. There's a decent selection of most everything you need but maybe not everything you might want. If you weren't picky you could do most all you grocery shopping here. They have very competitive prices on groceries and the other sundry's they carry. There's always a fun closeout section waiting to be explored too. Checkout is very quick and typically friendly. I always like paper bags which the checkout lady said they did not have. ( big frown on that one Marc's ). The store is always clean, well stocked and well organized, making it an easy store to shop. If you like Big Lots, Dollar General, Aldi's and Save-A-Lot, .it's worth checking out to keep the food budget in line. read more

Marc's is a fairly typical discount store, and appeared clean on our visit. The building is definitely not fancy and the selection is random and covers a lot of stuff in a small space, but it's interesting to explore. The staff was very friendly and helpful - while in the bread aisle, one of the employees told us fresh bread had just been delivered and brought the cart over for us to pick one. The prices varied as to whether they were very discounted. We ended up buying only items on sale, several of which I also had coupons for, which did make for good deals. The best deal I got was $2 Bob's Red Mill gluten free crust, which runs around $5 at the standard grocery stores. Another aspect I liked was that they carried a number of in-state brands, particularly in the dairy aisle with cheeses and such, and some ice creams like Pierre's. That was a nice touch. While I wouldn't switch to do all my grocery shopping here, I would go in again if the ad shows products I like on sale in the future. read more

Nothing particularly fancy about Marc's but they often have good or comparable prices on the staple goods you want to have around the house. Just be sure to check the expiration date to make sure you'll use it before it expires. They sell gift cards at a discount and want cash up front for those. During the spring and summer months they often have plants and mulch out front. Checkout is usually a breeze. If you bring your own bags they'll use them. read more

Well let's just start off with I love Marc's. It is everything I need in one trip. They have produce, deli, meats, pet supplies, clothing, plants, makeup, pharmaceuticals, wine, household items, seasonal items and more. Not Walmart but close. Prices are more than reasonable. My last trip there I got a winter hat for $4 and a throw rug for $6. Lots of parking. All food items are quality and fresh. read more

A horrible, drab store with sketchy off brands and limited selection. The cashiers are slow and not too bright, and this is an issue as this store can't be bothered to install self-checkout lanes. The customer base is pretty low-rent, a noticeable step down from even lowly Wal-Mart. Based on the sketchy nature of the store, I would never consider buying produce or meats here. It only took 5 minutes of walking the aisles before I scampered away from this nightmare. read more

This is my favorite grocery store - It's a local Ohio chain based out of The Cleveland area. I was so happy when I found one of these in Columbus. It's not a super fancy grocery store, but that means it's got way cheaper prices and a great selection of products name brand and generic. read more

So, this isn't just a grocery store. It's like a discount and liquidation store all in one. If you like finding a deal, this is a great place for you to stop by. They never have the same thing twice...so if you like something, grab it. Not the cleanest but I have only been there at holiday time with many, many other individuals. I guess I must have left my white gloves at home today - I do not find this location to be all that dirty. Marc's is a discount grocer - I wouldn't say that you can replace all of your grocery shopping here - it may lack the selection you want in certain products...I guess Kroger and GE still have the market on that. But I am amazed how I can wander the aisles at Mark's and buy things cheaper than I can at WalMart Super Centers or from Meijer's. If you are a cereal eater, the amount of money you'll save on your favorite brands will probably make it worth the drive. They also now have a great selection of Kashi in addition to the Kellogg's, General Mills and Quaker selections. But the thing I like best about Marc's is the wide availability of Ohio made products. The place should have one large "OHIO PROUD" endorsement sticker on the doors, the roof, etc. I can find every grocery or meat product made by Bob Evans Farms at much lower prices. They carry milk and dairy from Ohio names such as Dairyman, Micelli's, and Yoder's, Pierre's French Pot Ice Cream from Cleveland, a full selection of Marzetti and Cardini salad dressings, jarred pasta sauces from Mid's and a mom and pop Italian restaurant in Cleveland named Stancato's. They also have great dried pastass and Amish made noodles and fantastic restaurant quality breads and buns from Nickel's, Orlando and Brownberry bakeries The produce is reasonably priced - sometimes it's great, sometimes it's meh. They do not have a large fresh meat selection, and no butcher on the premise. There isn't a fresh bakery either. But hey, the prices are right. I just wish they would expand into all of these empty BigBear market spaces we have spread across Columbus. They do have automated credit card machines now and the prices are bar coded - but the check out lines still don't have a conveyor belt...maybe that will be in the new stores? =) It's worth a trip on a rainy day or if you like to do some treasure hunting... read more

I've shopped here on several occasions since this throw-back like grocery opened a decade ago, but I have yet to become a weekly cutomer. The reason is not because of price. The prices here are wonderful; I bought enough chicken to make four fajitas, once a week for two months for only $7.49. I also got a great deal on pancake mix, eggs, and potatoes. For the budget, Marcs is 4-stars. For my ADHD/claustrophobic mind, though, Marc's ranks lower. It is the kind of store that fills the aisle with assorted junk: dilapidated displays, cracked and crumbling cardboard shippers, and cockeyed casestacks randomly impede shoppers everywhere; ostensibly, their philosophy must be if you trip over something, you'll buy it. There is no game plan, nor method in the madness; Stuff is crammed wherever--crackers in the aisle front of toothpaste--that kind of thing. The aisles are so full it makes passing by someone an act of applied topology. The aisle are so small that I feel like Indiana Jones yelling for an arachnophobic heroine to "pull the damn lever." Moreover, there is no natural flow to the store. Often I will leave my cart to 'go on foot'-- easier to navigate-- when hunting for an item on my list. Then I will forget where I put my cart, meaning I will use more time and energy to find it, only to repeat the process later. Other marks against Marc's are for the too often low quality produce, and the flea market like hardlines area, which I doubt have been straightened in months. There are too few employees on the floor for help; the cashiers are seldom friendly, but they are not rude. The front end is too crowded; I dislike places that I feel I can't easily get out of. In total 3-stars. Great prices, but you get what you pay for. It just pushes all my neurotic buttons. read more

DEALS ALL DAY. Close-outs change constantly so frequenting is still spicy. I got a hand bag that receives copious compliments for $5 and they often carry Target left overs. Things are unorganized but you find interesting grocery items and prices are significantly lower. Bob's Red Mill EVERYTHING for way cheap. They always have a 2lb bags of cheese for $6 (approx 30 delightful quesadillas). I'm not one of those creepy people that price check different stores and complain at customer's service for my 40 cents back but f'real... a half lb bag of cheese of Kroger brand usually runs $4. Bonus tip: There is a free scale as you exit the grocery store if you're into that sort of thing. This store is in close proximity to a decent thrift store and Taco Bell afterwards for post-shopping snax. read more

Not for grocery snobs. While I love the aesthetic of other grocery stores I grew up shopping at Marc's and see no point in paying so much more elsewhere. I cook everything from scratch and they always have a good selection of meat and produce. Significantly cheaper than other stores. Otherwise, clean, organized. Also they carry a nice assortment of ethnic food products (Italian, spanish, eastern european) - I am from cleveland where these things are readily available...not as much in C Bus. Only thing they lack is some types of vegetables ( i.e. broccolini or fennel). read more

I have got to admit, I am from Cleveland, and the Marc's stores are teeming up there. I grew up going to this place with my dad, because he is extremely frugal. And I have to admit, even though I don't shop here weekly, I will always recommend it to friends and clients. The reason I like Marc's is that they carry name brand products at cheaper prices. They even have organics, which I think is extremely helpful when so many people are trying to be healthy. Honestly, if you want to go to a hoitey-toitey grocery store that has that brand new smell, amazing service, and a wide-array of exotics, I wouldn't necessarily go to Marcs. But if you don't care about all that frou-frou stuff and just want good deals, this is a great place to save a buck without sacrificing name brands. They sell a lot of stuff and are definitely worth a check. read more

okay, people. i came in here with the lowest of low expectations. i had never been to marc's and hadn't ever planned on going. but the day came where i was desperate for some items to help facilitate my car washing activities but did not want to drive all the way to the nearest target. so i decided to give this place a whirl. it's ugly and not very welcoming on the inside. but they had everything i needed and more. a travel-size section (i was looking for some travel-size advil and tums for the car), an auto section (for cleaning wipes), a school/office supply section (i was in the market for mini notebooks for when you get a call in the car and need to take notes). And I even fell upon a section of organic cereals and Bob's Red Mill products. It was awesome. And everything is really cheap here. The day I went I inadvertently bought a box of cereal that expired two days later but I went back to Marc's and the customer service person let me do a little switch-a-roo with no questions or paperwork--- who does that? Usually, stores want to document the exchange-- drives me nuts. I'm sorry I prejudged you, Marc's! This place is absolutely worth another visit! read more

Ok..... If you are from the Cleveland area or have family from there, chances are that you have been to one of these stores before! Albeit they are all the same.... Dumpy, full of really strange items sometimes, etc. However, I have really good memories of a kid going here for strange things and always getting toys.....so I am sure that has something to do with my slight adoration for these stores. That being said, you can't beat getting a bouncy ball to play with outside with your toddler for under $1. You also can't beat some of the other deals they have there. You can't also beat some of the Cleveland items they have there (smokies, pirogi, etc). I do not think that they have great deals on all of their food items, but if you know your prices, you can weed out these things. Novelty items, cards, toddler toys, and possibly baking things (canned poppy-seed filling is very reasonable) are the things to get here. read more

I really love Marc's. The "remainder" side changes so often that I try to get there frequently. Prices in the "remainder" section are unbelievable. For example, I saw bird toys there worth about $5 each at Walmart. Marked 2.50. Great! Bought a few. At checkout, I had read the price wrong. The $5-quality toys were 2/50¢. Groceries, meat, and produce are good, and a little cheaper than other super markets, but I go for the remainder part of the store. Also, they will sell you 25 cent little popcorn bags. April, 2019 update: popcorn starts at 50 cents now. It us not very good. Get it at Target instead. read more

I used to workout at the Lifestyles in this pavilion and would occasionally swing by Marc's for some seasonal fruits and veggies due to lack of time for going elsewhere, but now that I've found a gym elsewhere I've no reason to go back. Its dirty, its poorly organized, the prices at Kroger, Meijer, and Walmart are just as good....hell, this place is so old they use dialup creditcard verification that fails more frequently than it works. I will admit the staff was very friendly and certainly more helpful than those at Meijer, but if I want a social experience while shopping I'll go to Whole Food or Fresh Market. read more

I love Marc's. Everyone needs to stay away so that I can snatch up all of the closeout items! Their Target leftovers are by far the best deals, but they have great prices on their non-perishable food items as well. Actually, the prices for most of the food here are more than competitively low, but lacking in organic produce. It's a bit dingy and cramped, and it's one of those blast-from-the-past stores that doesn't have an automatic door opener (you step on the pad to open the door). This is part of the charm, in my opinion, as it reminds me of IGA stores of old. Fun fact- the ones in Cleveland don't take credit cards! Fortunately, the one on Henderson Rd does. Now that I live in the Hilltop, I miss my weekly trip to Marc's to scour the shelves for closeout deals. Check this place out for great seasonal holiday decorations, plants in the spring/summer, and cheap sauces/condiments. read more

This place is like a strange time machine that takes me back into a Food Lion (southern grocery chain) circa 1990 only the products on the shelf are current (mostly). I'll be the first to admit this isn't the place I do my primary shopping and I wouldn't even recommend it for that. I go in here for fun. The place has sort of a nostalgic charm that makes me smile when I walk in it each time. Shopping here or even just walking through browsing makes for a fun way to kill some time while my wife and I wait for take-out from Bahn Thai a few doors down, or wait on laundry that we let get out of control and had to take to the cleaners. The store reminds me so much of trips to the store as a little kid and while I take a stroll down memory lane we get to look around at some of the random stuff they have (often at great prices). As a grocery store on it's own I'd give it two or three stars, it's kinda dingy and the selection is pretty random, but like I said that nostalgic charm it has makes it a fun time for me every time I walk through the door. read more

Shopped there over 10 years - Young Women Manager is rude and hostile, long lines, can't find something - don't bother asking, no idea, if you can find someone. Produce is almost bad, will be in a day or so. Meat dept has become a joke. Most of the Chicken is ripe and a day away from spoiled. read more

I always forget about Marc's, but it is handy sometimes, and I always walk out with some good deals. There is a little household/decor section up front that might be handy sometimes, and a good selection of typical grocery items at slightly-lower-than-normal prices. Also, I found some brands and varieties that I haven't seen elsewhere. I will definitely keep this in mind for a quick stop, or even major grocery shopping. read more

This is like the Big Lots for grocery shopping! Great deals but definitely agree with Michael U with the fact that it is diiiiirtay. I'm not super anal retentive but when I'm buying groceries I prefer the place to be a bit cleaner than my basement. I had fun picking through the cosmetics/bags/vanity stuff but it was all such poor quality that I passed. I don't mind Marc's but it's a bit out of the way if you don't live up that way and it isn't a place that I can't live without so with that said, it gets 3 little stars only. read more

Love, love, LOVE Marc's! They have some really, really cheap stuff here. I love going to their "cheap" section of different, miscellaneous items. I managed to get an iPod charger for $2.99 here. They just have a ton of knickknacks for really cheap. Then they have groceries! Also, cheap. Great Fox wine, which is cheap (3.29 and actually pretty good for cheap wine- not like the Wal*Mart cheap wine Oakwood). The employees are friendly, one encouraged me to run back and grab the sugar I'd forgotten while she rang up my other items. Very great place! read more

If you want to wait in lines forever, then go to the Marc's in Hilliard. I was just there and I got in line 2 while her light was on for a good 10 minutes. I'm almost up to her and she tells me she closed. They had two other registers opened. The 12 items or less line, which I had way more. The other line had 8 people with full carts. This is the last time I come to this one. I was so upset that I just left my cart. I'll take my business to somewhere that doesn't make me wait a half hour. read more

What Marc's lacks in cleanliness, it makes up for in thrift. I'm (sorta) willing to forgive repulsive restrooms and cluttered aisles for discounted groceries. They carry everything you would expect in a supermarket. Marc's ups the ante by offering a decent selection of organic produce and international foods as well. You have to compete with that Fresh Market next door somehow. I do wish there was a location on the southeast side of town. There's a store in Westerville, but other than that, this store is a bit of a orphan in Columbus. All the other Marc's are located in the northeast section of the state. read more
