Overpriced and underwhelming. Mare y Monti used to be a fantastic italian place but they have gone down hill. We went for the first time in a few years and the food was overpriced and not good enough to justify the price. We ordered the lasagna which was gummy and mushy and the mushroom ravioli which was good but for $24 they gave you 6 small ravioli swimming in a pool of sauce. Pasta and mushrooms are cheap I just can't understand why they skimped on that dish and sent out an entree that was barely bigger than an appetizer. During the meal our table was bumped by servers running by constantly until we moved it ourselves. It was also insanely loud in there. It was all very disappointing and I don't think we'll be back. It's a shame because they used to be great. read more

Absolutely delicious! Homemade Italian food! Everytime we come here the food is amazing. Parking is hard due to being on a neighborhood but they do offer valet. The drinks are great! The waitress and waiters are very hard working! It can be loud if it is busy because it is open area so if your looking for a quiet place then this is not the place. My nephew and I came here the other night for dinner as were in the mood for Italian food and this place is the highest rated in the area and came highly recommended from an employee at Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company. Overall, it was a great experience. The service was great and the food was good. I ordered the Capesante (Scallops) Piccata which was very good. We have eaten at a lot of Italian places..we loved this place. Not much to look at from the outside and the neighborhood is well meh...but once you walk in you are transformed. Our waitress was nice and attentive, the food served prompt, and the price very reasonable for the quality. I had the eggplant with home made noodles. Slight upcharge but they're the meal. Highly recommended. My wife had the chicken parm and she loved it. Ordered up the house Chainti and wow ..it was fantastic. High recomend it. We will be going back...often. Valet parking is available. Small bar and jammed waiting area while dodging waiters and waitresses rushing orders to the eager diners. The veal Parmesan was incredible. Oh my Mare e Monti. You are a little gem in an unexpected neighborhood in Worcester. I was craving some authentic Italian, and you hit the spot. Came here for the first time tonight. Was thinking about chicken parm, but saw reviews for the veal parm and got sucked in. It was quite tasty for sure. The red sauce is clearly a labor of love, and the veal was tender and perfectly breaded. I wanted a cabernet to go with it, but they were out, so I picked a Merlot instead. They do the wine at the right temperature for the best flavor. The indoor atmosphere is really nice and the staff were great. There is no parking lot, so you have to find a spot along the street. I guess my only thought is that for $26 I figured I would have some to take home. It was a good sized piece of veal, but no problem finishing it. Maybe if it came with a small salad or something? Or a bit more pasta? It was very good. But I probably wouldn't spend that again. read more

I'm Italian and I've been to Italy, so I'm hard to please when it comes to American Italian restaurants that bread-and-fry everything and think pasta needs to be under everything. It's not bad--it tastes good enough. But this is the type of Italian food that makes you fat, not what you get dining out in Sorrento. I'd give it a pass on the fact that it's better than most others, but the popularity of this place and the size of the restaurant means noisy meals--and not the Italian-type of noisy, either. You won't be able to hear the person across from you. Not really worth the difficulty of finding parking. There's better stuff in Worcester... but I'm glad people would rather go here because it means I can find a better dining experience with less wait elsewhere. read more

Top notch dining experience! Went with three others and everyone's food was fantastic, I had one of their daily specials, scallop over risotto... some of the best Italian food I've had in a while. My wife and I had dinner here last night. She had the chicken Marsala and I had the chicken parm which is my go to when ever I try a new place. Pasta was al dente on both dishes. Chicken parm was breaded well and had a nice crunch. Marsala was really flavorful and had a nice consistency to the sauce. Bread with confit garlic was awesome and the server was great. Came here late on a Sunday just before closing and the service from Aleisha was fast, very friendly and wonderfully attentive; the wine and food were fantastic; and the ambience was cozy. Could not have asked for better. Would have give it 6 stars if we could. The bread was soft though it would have been great a little warmed up. But the olive oil with roasted whole garlic cloves and pepper was amazing. We asked for more. We ordered the red sangria which was fruity and strong with not too much ice. The Langhe Nebbiolo 'Baby Barolo' was wonderfully full bodied. For starters we got the seafood, stuffed mushrooms and it was delightfully tasty and light even with the cheese on top. For our entrees my wife took the Gamberi a la vodka, which had a creamy yet light tomato sauce and the roasted garlic kept the taste subtle. And the shrimps were perfectly done. The cavatelli homemade pasta was worth getting. Superb! I took the Pollo Giuseppe. The chicken, eggplant, prosciutto and cheese blended so well. And the homemade pappardelle was nice and fresh, soft, and chewy. The Pomodoro sauce was rich and delicious. The portions are huge and I had to box half the Pollo Giuseppe. We ended with the almond torte. I and not a big fan of caramel so I would have preferred it without the caramel sauce. But the almond flavor was just right. And the torte felt like a soft cheesecake which I love. All in all we could not have asked for better. We will definitely be back when we are near Worcester, MA. read more

Tonight was my first visit, inspired by other reviews. I'm not local, but Worcester is midway between home and my brother's who joined me. The place was excellent. It started and ended with a very friendly and helpful valet service (street parking otherwise). Menu was full of upscale Italian choices. I had a haddock with spinach risotto. Fish appeared fresh, properly cooked, and nicely seasoned. The risotto was complemented by the taste of extra virgin olive oil. I rarely notice that flavor, so these guys are doing it right. Service was friendly and quick. The cost was under $100 for 2 (no alcohol ordered) including desserts. For a Tuesday at 6pm in a quiet neighborhood, this place was nearly full. read more

By far the best Italian restaurant ANYWHERE! Been eating italian in Northern NJ which is probably one of the most competitive and representative places in the US for Italian food. BY far Mare E Monti is the best. The specials, the bread the pasta the unique dishes all bring MAre E Monti to the fore front of restaurants. The fresh homemade pasta is absolutely delicious, yes there is an additional charge but its well worth it. Some draw backs you should know about, it is a very small place with a tiny waiting area, so in winter it can get cold and very tight. There is no parking lot only Valet or street parking. The area is so so , just be careful and you'll be fine. read more

This restaurant is as close to authentic as it gets. I absolutely loved the Frutti di Mare, garlicky but not overpowering, the sauce was a good consistency and perfect to sop up with the wonderfully crusty bread. The lobster ravioli was as good as I have had anywhere as was the homemade pasta. Thickness is key here and it was spot on, not so thick that it was gummy and not so thin that it fell apart.
