Definately a 5 star experience I had with my facial. Olga was amazing and 5 stars aren't given lightly. The plan was to get a facial and massage, but they were booked for massages the day I called so I got a facial. The place is nicely decorated & has a real calm to it I appreciated. The young ladies at the front desk were very nice e and kept a smile while getting me checked in. I was taken to the back area where I was introduced to Olga. Such a kind person. She confirmed whether or not I had ever had a facial so I knew what to expect (I've had only 1 before and this one was over the top compared to the basic one I received before). I was thrown off at first when I had to take my shirt off and get under a towel because it was a facial. It was really a facial for the face, the neck, ears, shoulders and top chest area. There was definitely a massage and amazing feels from all the oils, lotions and whatever else was used on me. The best. I've never fallen asleep during a facial or massage and this had me on the edge of bliss/slumber. I can't wait to get another one and really hope my next experience is the same as this was. I made an appointment over the phone for a gel manicure the next day. I was happy they were able to fit me in so last minute. They have a good selection of colors to choose from, however they are all in the bottles. They don't have the nail sets for you to see it painted. My technician was really focused and spent time redoing nails if it looked wonky. Unfortunately, she did not catch everything (and neither did I until it was too late to go back). Some of my nails are different lengths, there are edges/corners that are missing polish. One of my nails has a .5cm section that didn't get the last coat of color so it's two toned. Overall, the nails still look fine from far away but I don't feel like I got the quality I was looking for for the price. Everyone was very friendly and it is clean inside! read more

Holy smokes, I totally forgot to review this gem of a spa that I stumbled across from a spafinder gift card! My boss wanted to treat me but since she was in Chicago, she let me pick my own destiny with a GC. Well lucky me, because Marengo was close to my location downtown and in one of my favorite buildings of all time - The Arcade! I said alrighty, let's give this spa a try! I had a deep tissue massage (express) with Brandi and I have continued to see her ever since - for longer periods now! She knows the right pressure points, makes you feel super comfortable, allows you to guide the level of conversation you do/don't want and is a genuine and easy person to be around! I'll be honest, I was a bit wary going into my first massage ever as a female in her 30s. Like have I been living under a cave? Yes. Indeed I have. For some reason I was worried it would be awkward in some way or feel forced to talk to a stranger. I don't know. Usually I had partners try to give me a massage after a long work week but it is JUST NOT THE SAME. I promise. Unless your partner is a licensed massage therapist I guess hehe. Also, five stars for the rest of the staff too. Monique, the owner, is absolutely wonderful and makes you feel at home every single time. I get my pedicure done there as well by a lovely gal and I've also had a very detailed manicure! I have yet to get my hair done but I'm considering that next! Overlooking the beautiful sights of The Arcade (especially during the holidays) is a sight to be seen while you relax and pamper yourself. They have great Valentine's Day deals too! I strongly strongly recommend Marengo! They put the Luxury in Luxury Spa for sure! :) They even have a little tea room that you can sit in and deep breathe after your massage! Location: Great if you work or live downtown. If you plan on driving in check with them about parking first, most garages and close lots have hourly rates that can add up quickly. Environment: when I walked in the person at the front desk was on the phone and just looked at me like I was vermin, the look was so startling, I turned around to make sure I walked in the correct suite . Lucky for me another employee noticed me standing there and came over to assist me. She took me back to the waiting area where I sat down and immediately felt calm and centered. It was cool, fresh smelling, dimly lit and just perfect :). I only sat there for a minute or so but it was great. They have the usual spa refreshments, lemon water, granola, and something I had not see before: cake! Service: I got my brows waxed by Shameka (apologies if I spelled her name incorrectly). I am very happy with the service and the price - $15 a la carte at a well appointed spa isn't bad at all. Shameka was awesome too, nice small talk and I got extremely positive vibe from her. Usually I would take a star off for the terrible receptionist but she seems so out of place compared to the other employees I interacted with that I'm going to give them a pass. I called first thing in the morning and was thankful to get an appointment for just a few hours later. I was greeted with a friendly smile and taken to a serene waiting area. Teresa then came to get me and took me to the treatment room. Again, serene. I felt incredibly relaxed as I laid back and enjoyed the sounds of the spa. While staying at the Hyatt Regency at The Arcade, I forgot my curling iron and desperately needed something done with my hair for my friend's wedding that afternoon. Lucky enough, the Marengo Luxury Spa was located within The Arcade and when I stopped by in the morning to see if someone would be available for an appointment in the afternoon, they were more than happy to oblige. I came back in the afternoon and was seen right away. I forget my stylist's name but she was very friendly and a joy to talk to. She did a decent job styling my hair. I went with a half-up, half-down style for the wedding. Unfortunately, since my hair is very long and fine in texture, all of the curls she so delicately put in my hair had fallen by the time of the wedding. My biggest qualm was that before making the appointment, I had asked someone at the front desk to give me an estimate of how much it would cost. She said just to style it would be less than $35. But after my style was done and I went to pay, I was charged closer to $50. Seeing that my hairdo did not make it through the ceremony or the reception, I probably would not have had my hair done for $50. read more

while most of my experience would be valued favorable I am giving the spa a poor rating due to the fact that I developed an infection in my great toe after having a pedicure during my spa day. I had to miss several days of work and ultimately ended up having to have surgery to remove part of the nail due to the infection. won't be recommending nor returning myself. read more

Marengo is not just one of the best spas in Cleveland, but one of the bet spas i've ever been to! The location is incredible. You honestly cannot beat being inside the Arcade, one of Cleveland's architectural gems. The spa itself is pristine, and they are always able to fit me in for appointments that work with my schedule. Kelly Ann consistently does an incredible job with my nails, and seeing her is sometimes the best part of my day! My shellac manicures last longer than usual when done by her, and I will literally wait for an opening with Kelly Ann before i'd even consider going to a different gal in Cleveland. Much like rest of the staff, she has an awesome personality that makes the visit relaxing and fun. Because of the location, you won't find direct parking for the Arcade. I would recommend taking an Uber, or parking on one of the Prospect Avenue facing lots (you will need to enter the Arcade through the Prospect side). By no means a "Luxury" Spa. For manicures - you are crammed into what seems like a small closet, sitting very close/nearly on top of the other person getting their nails done (basically in their conversation). I have gotten shellac multiple times, and each time the shellac has chipped on day 2. One time, the technician even made my nail bleed. For the "spa" area, the locker room is also a small closet with a sink. If you need to use the restroom, it is public to the entire establishment. The waiting area for the spa is far from relaxing. It is very noisy, usually full of bacherolettes. It is not private at all and would not be considered a "getaway". For massages - we did a couple's massage and were taken into a room that reminded me of a giant shower. It was cold in the room - not the warmth of the room and bed that I usually have during massages. Right away, the technician gave us a speech about how she would only use her fingers and palms and nothing else and refused to use any pressure. So basically the "massage" was just a very expensive rub down. My masseuse also left in the middle of my massage for a few minutes for I dont know the reason. The experience was certainly nothing special and I won't likely be using their facilities again. read more

I would take my beat up feet to Marengo Luxury Spa again. Whether it's from running, walking, or chasing my little ones around, my feet and toes often take a beating. And while I don't get pedicures as often as I should (or as I'd like), Marengo provided me a quick solace from what ended up being a busy work day. The spa itself is quite lovely, serene and situated in a the stunning arcade building. I was able to make an appointment the day of, as was recommended by my colleague. Once inside I was escorted to a plush massage chair and my manicurist went to work. The pedicure itself was good - plenty of exfoliation and attention to my rough feet. The polish selection was just ok and while I chose something that worked, I think I'd like to see more options in the future. In the end, my pedicure turned out nicely and lasted a good deal of time. The staff are friendly and sweet, too. The major note for this place is that my pedicure ran me $54 *before* tip. I'm totally cool with paying extra for great service and in a spa environment, but even considering all of the above, this seemed high to me. read more

She took her time, was easy to chit chat with without being one of those "too much" personalities, and did an awesome job. I first started coming here because of a Groupon deal, 3 deep cleansing facials for $100 (something like that), so basically I was getting 3 facials for the price of one. It was a deal I couldn't pass up...so I also bought my best friend one and we immediately made our appointments. That was over 2 years ago and I am still a fan! Our first appointments were with two awesome facialists, Julie and Ali. They both love their job, which makes them very good at what they do. They are professional and friendly. If you want to talk during your facial, they have plenty to talk about, but if you want to just sit back and relax, they are good at making you feel like you are transported into your own little peaceful oasis. Ali has since left...but Julie is still there. I recommend her to anyone and everyone! Prior to facials and massages, you get to go to the back room and wait for your appointment. It is peaceful with two couches and plenty of snacks to munch on. I have also had several manicures, pedicures and massages there. I have had a different person every time for each service, so can't really recommend any specific person. I also feel that my experience with these services have been both good and okay (reason for only 4 stars). If their prices seem a little steep, then make sure you get on their mailing list. Every now and then they have specials such as buy one service get second for $10. Also keep an eye out on Groupon and Travel Zoo (I have found great deals there as well). One of the things I love about this place is that they do NOT try to sell you theirs or any products. I have been to salons where they are all about sell, sell, sell! My bestie got married at the Arcade just a few weeks ago. We spent 4 nights staying at the Hyatt, enjoying downtown Cleveland and all that the historic Arcade has to offer. We visited the salon/spa twice during this 4 day wedding weekend. The pros: super convenient location, on the 2nd floor of the hotel. It's a cute little spot with nice amenities, we got an entire back room lounge while the bridal party and bride got her hair done with mimosas and snacks. The cons: Price (not shocking since its so convenient). I don't mind paying more especially for my best friends wedding but I don't want to completely sacrifice quality. We did manicures and pedicures (mother of the bride set it up) and it was a total waste of money. thank god I had my nails done at home before coming into Cleveland because the pedicure here was bad. I did the mini spa pedicure (apparently 30 minutes). It included nail filing and painting and that's it. Literally- no scrubbing of feet, almost no massage. I left with fresh toe nail paint that I could have done myself. 20 minute experience and with tip, it was 40 bucks. I did it for the bride but my bank account was upset with me. Like I said, wouldn't mind paying if it had been some what worth the money! My wedding hair came out better than my pedicure. Thank goodness (pictures don't lie). I wish I could remember the gal's name who did my hair. She was super sweet and took her time, which I appreciated. Wasn't exactly what I wanted but it was better than I could have done myself. It was $60. Side note: I didn't get my make up done but most of the bridal party did. Only 2 girls were happy with the way it turned out. It seems like they really only have 1 strong make up artist. The brides aunt ended up completely washing her face after and re-doing the make up herself. Make sure you look into who you are booking your appointment with before you confirm anything here! Overall, it was a 3 star experience for me. Most importantly, the bride loved her hair and make up and that's all that mattered! read more

I tried this place because i just needed a quick mani and BADLY. This place was the only one I found with a good star rating on yelp and within walking distance for me! (Bonus!) I was apprehensive at first since some of the more recent reviews made this place out to be a little snooty (it is a spa in THE Arcade after all), but TBH I was treated with nothing but respect and kindness from the moment I walked in! The woman at the desk was so friendly and kind, and even when I left she literally dug my wallet out of my mary-poppins-purse, opened my wallet to get out my credit card, and even manually put on my jacket for me as my nails were still drying. I mean, if that ain't "above and beyond" I don't know what is. The nail tech I had was Sharon and she was awesome!!! I'm not one for pampering usually... but she had me in and out in 30 minutes with amazing nails. She truly took the time to make my hands fabulous. She was seemingly perfecting every little thing on my fingers and fixing even the most minute cuticle imperfections. I couldn't believe she was so thorough! I feel usually people try to just slab some new polish on in 10 minutes and try to move you along for more turnover, but Sharon was totally not like that. I'm also not one to really chit-chat and make small talk... and I appreciated that she didn't attempt too many times. I think she could gauge I was tired from my work day and just wanted to sit and get a mani with minimal awkward conversation. So extra tip to her for that. Only tip is to make sure you have cash for tipping!! I usually remember this but forgot to plan ahead and had to tip on my card. Overall a great experience and even sitting in the arcade was relaxing while I waited a little longer for my nails to dry. read more

While in the area on business, I looked for a salon to maintain my manicure. This one was nearby and beautiful. The staff was wonderfully pleasant and the atmosphere restful. My manicurist was charming. I left very content with my nails. So why the single star? Two says later my cuticles started peeling horribly. Within 5 days the gel polish started flaking off. By the time I got home and returned to my nail salon, 4 cuticles were torn and a mess. No polish left and 3 nails torn when the polish peeled. Lovely place, nice people but certainly not recommended for nails. read more

The masseuse talked the ENTIRE time. It was awkward and hard to stop. The masseuse also spoke badly about the company. Can you believe that?! I would never go back, but was only in town for business, so thankfully I won't have to. In addition, the changing rooms were so small, better described as a stall. This is not an exaggeration. There's nowhere to sit within the changing room. Just a sink, hand soap, and a cheap wall hair dryer with a broken piece. How are you to get yourself back together after services? The shower for massage services is not next to the changing area and is again, a stall with a small standing space right outside of the stall. There's no trash bin within the shower stall to discard the undergarments they give you for the body wrap that requires the shower afterward. So you're forced to leave the undergarments on the floor? Are they sanitizing between services? The answer is no, because the mat in the shower was so gross and the corners of the shower were black (mold??), that I rinsed off for 5 seconds and decided I wouldn't get or feel "clean" in this environment. No mirror in there either. If you go here and think it's the tops, maybe you've just not had many spa experiences. Look around, there are truly better options. Sorry I took the suggestion from my hotel. I still tipped, and tried to speak to the manager on the way out, but she was so nice and complimented me on my hair. I didn't know how to address the employee talking about her or even if I should. And it's not her fault the architect of her spa built the smallest changing room ever or a back house design that doesn't make sense. But the cleanliness stuff, she can change. So, maybe she'll see this. read more

I spent my 50th birthday in Cleveland. Went to the spa on Tues. (the day of my birthday). The spa was closed for 2 weeks for a remodel and had just reopened on Tues., the 23rd. My husband and I were there first guests, at 10 a.m. We were greeted by "I'm so sorry, I guess we needed more than a day to set back up." Fine, no problem, salon was not put back together 100%. Our first appt. was a couple's massage. Both were very good. We both then had pedicures. The girls could not have been nicer. We chatted the entire time. So, why 3 stars. Actually, I would have only given 2.5 if it was an option. I've definitely been to much better salons, at least 3 right here in my small hometown. To call this a luxury spa is a FAR reach. I had picked this salon because it was rated #1. I'm still trying to figure that out. Off topic, in the early-mid 90s there was a wonderful salon in Tower City called Maxell's. It is now closed... that was a luxury spa and felt maybe this would be close since it was rated #1 in Cleveland. So, because they had just reopened that day, many of the workers were there putting their personal stations back in order. Be warned, the "spa" area where we received our pedicures, and me a manicure is not private, and you are basically sitting in the window, which faces a pretty empty mall. Many people use it for indoor walking. That was fun! During the entire time of our pedicures we were facing the hairdressers. One girl spent most of her time putting her pony tail in, teasing her hair, taking it out, and redoing it many times. Another while I was getting my manicure was redoing her own nails right next to me. I've never seen professionals do these kinds of things in front of clients. My manicurist, while I was drying stepped to the mirror behind me and combed her hair out and then sprayed something all over her (and me). That was pretty unbelievable. None of these things are a big deal separately, but they all added up to one big message of "we are not professionals". Between our massages and pedicures they took us to a small room that apparently had been painted and given new carpet during the remodel. They were just setting it up with snacks, coffee, etc. when we arrived earlier. I would have thought customer areas would have been ready to go (top priority) by the time they opened at 10. As we sat in our robes it was a little uncomfortable to have so many people just "working" where we were supposed to be relaxing. The room was "new", but the ceiling had nasty dirty cobwebs on it. At one point a lady brought a guy back in a suit to show him something... people traipsed in and out the entire time. One last thing, the girl that did my pedicure, also did my manicure. While she was very nice during my pedicure, she turned into a different person during my manicure. She didn't speak to me the entire time. I believe she was upset because her co-worker went out the door with another co-worker after she told her "don't leave me". She brought the nail dryer up from the floor and had me put my hands on it so she could spray them. The fans of the dryer were filthy. A little bit of compressed air, a hand held vacuum, and 5 minutes could have taken care of that. After she was done and I sat there drying, she checked her phone and had a "situation" with her cat. She was upset and told me all about it. While I felt bad for her, I probably could have done without knowing about it. Again, a little bit of professionalism was called for. This day was my 50th birthday, I had high expectations, only to be sadly disappointed. I did leave cash tips, as there was a sign on the manicurists table that cash was the preferred method. I showed grace by thanking them. They did apologize a few times for the disarray of the salon just being re-opened, but, bottom line, go somewhere else. read more

I was very pleased with my first visit to Marengo! A friend raved about stylist Henri Catrett and she was right on. He was so thorough with my haircut and paid attention to every detail. I really felt like I was in good hands, you can tell that he is very experienced and very talented! He is also very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I LOVE my new hair, 5 stars for Henri! The salon is located in the arcade which is gorgeous. I live downtown so it was a nice walk and very convenient. Henri gave me a tour of the spa which I can't wait to come back to. The relaxation room is really pretty and inviting. I saw a woman having a glass of wine while getting a pedicure...bonus points for Marengo. Looks like they take very good care of their clients. I will be back to Marengo very soon. Be prepared to spend 5-10 minutes parking either on the street if you are lucky, or in the adjacent parking structure. The spa is small, sweet and european feeling.
