Great authentic fresh food and friendly owners make this little place my favorite Philippine restaurant

I stopped by for a late lunch and ordered the pork lumpia, chicken adobo, and dinuguan. I've been here before and enjoyed it, but this time the food was unfortunately bland, and I've had better elsewhere. The food was served on paper plates with a scoop of rice, which didn't help with presentation and honestly made me lose my appetite a bit. The space also felt rundown and could really use a deep clean--you can tell it needs mopping and some general upkeep. That said, the owner or staff working was very nice, friendly, and easygoing. With some improvements to food quality and cleanliness, this place could definitely be better. read more

they need to practice better service. I came in 2nd in line no greeting or anything. Other customers came after me and the man behind the counter greeted them. The food was great! I ordered their pork sinigang which was on point and highly recommend it. Co worker had their pork adobo which was delicious and thei pancit. Their assortment of dessert is delicious too. Great service from a young woman who was so kind and helpful. No pictures as we wanted to dig straight into our food. Stopped by this little mom-and-pop establishment to pick up lunch during my workday. It's a small restaurant with a little shop (sari sari) of snacks on the side. The portions are decent. Pancit is counted as a "veggie" in their combo. I felt that the chicken adobo was just average. Prices are steep for their lumpia! Food is laid out panda-express style and the staff serves up your food at the counter before you sit down. Overall ok but it didn't quite hit the spot. read more

Food is always Excellent, chicken adobo and others. We got it to go since the man refused to let our licensed service dog in the restaurant. The dog is well well-trained service dog with a state license. Because of this, we will not eat here anymore and tell our other senior friends that the service dog couldn't come in, and we had to take our orders to go. There is a great selection of the fresh food that is absolutely delicious. The owner/manager and his wife are very kind, thoughtful people. Owner is so rude! I watched him sweep food from the counter back into the noodles. He asked if I would pay cash, I said no, then said he'd charge me $1.00 if I used my card. I've been here many times and just ignored his rudeness, but this is the last straw! He talks to others the same way, so abruptly. The guy is so rude! I was asking to separate my 2 entrees and not be mixed with the rice. And he said, no, that's not how he does it. I was suggesting to not mix the food in one plate and he replied, " I don't take suggestions." I was not even done talking to him and he turned away. Maybe he thinks he can save cost by not using an extra small styrofoam container (!) containers per order. He just lost at least 100 customers because of his rudeness. Food is not even that great. Not as good as other Filipino places I've been to. They had a limited selection because we came there a half hour before they opened and it looked like there was only one guy working there, so he had to cook in between working with customers. If we'd just gotten there a half hour later, we could have had lumpia and pancit. I'd be forgiving of the limited choices, but I didn't like how the one guy kept answering phones and when it looked like the call would take longer, he'd dodge into the kitchen to finish the call. I understand not wanting to miss a phone order, but one of the basic tenets of customer service is to pay attention to the customer in front of you, not the one on the phone. The customer in front of you wants to give you money right now, whereas one on the phone can cancel their order or might not come at all. Plus that guy was grumpy. Again, I don't blame him since it looked like he was doing everything alone, so maybe they should staff the place with enough people so that he doesn't have to do everything. They have sit down eating, but it's definitely divey. You want to eat your food and get out, which I guess is by design since they have limited space. You won't be wanting to hang out for too long, but that's fine for what the place is. read more

Definately overpriced and small portions. The seafood sinigang was okay. It had the sour taste, but was bland. The beef mechado was disappointing. The meat was so dry that I had to drink plenty of fluids after each bite to be able to wash it down. Although, the longanisa was good. I mean you can't go wrong with that, right? Food is overpriced and portions are small. The dinaguan is very watery and has no flavor. The kare kare only had a faint peanut taste, otherwise was bland. The "oxtail" in the kare kare was tough and unseasoned. Most of the meat was just big pieces of straight fat. If you don't get the bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) the kare kare can't be salvaged. To top it all off the rush was mushy. Definitely still searching for a good Filipino spot. read more

Ordered saluyot soup with shrimp and there was only 1 shrimp in the bowl. Pork sinigang didn't have a very strong flavor. We also had the chicken apretada, it had good flavor and was an ok portion. This has been my favorite retistaurant for Filipino food for YEARS until today!! I called on Thursday, August 3rd at 3:43pm and spoke with the owner told him I needed to place an order for this Saturday for Pancit for 20 people. Mind you I have ordered party food before from here when my kids were in school to feed their class and did it by placing the order 2 days in advance, paying and then picked it up the day I requested. Anyways the Owner tells me no need to call early, just to give him a call Saturday morning one hour before I needed it and they will have it ready when I get there. I asked him are you sure (twice)?? As this was not how I've done it previously. He said yes, just call me Saturday ab hour before and I'll care of you. Fast forward to today, I called at 11:04am to place the order, same Man answered the phone. I explained to him we spoke on the phone on the 3rd and I was wanting to place an order for Pancit for 20 people to pick up at Noon. He proceeds to tell me that they have some and I can come in and grab it. I reminded him that it was the order for 30 people and he starts telling me he needs 2 days notice to do an order of that size. I told him we spoke 2 days ago when I tried to place it over the phone and come in that day to prepay. He says "No. I can't. There's nothing I can do. I gotta go" and hung up in my face. This is NOT how you treat your customers/consumers who enjoyed patronizing your business for years!!! I will NEVER give this establishment another dime of my hard owned money. read more

Overpriced Filipino food. $17 for a combo plate - and the food wasn't even piled on. Normally, I only eat half of a combo plate and take the rest home. However, there was so little food given for $17 that I was able to finish the whole thing My friend had the pork adobo. Although the meat was tender, the adobo lacked flavor. I came here because I was craving lumpia and pancit but I ended up ordering some chicken adobo and another pork dish too. A bit too much for one haha. I wanted to like this place but overall it wasn't the best and was very oily. The lumpia was on the colder side, seemed like it was sitting out there for awhile. But I did like the pancit so at least I got one thing I was craving and satisfied a part of my craving. The owner is such a sweet man, who loves Filipino food & culture. If you go in while he is cooking, his talents in making the food are seen. I had a good time dining here. It's a cute restaurant that is a cafe style where you order at the cashier stand. With many types, from Pancit, chicken adobo, and lumpia, you cannot go wrong. I had adobo and lumpia catered from here (for a party of 60) for my grad party and everyone loved it! It came with complementary sauces. This was hitting the spot , I don't know much about filipino food but I do know this food was delicious. Served Panda Express style. Looking at it all, I wanted a scope of everything but I went for the chicken curry on one side and beef mechado on the other , centered by a heaping pile of rice. Paired with some lumpia and pancit (noodles) I recommend it all. They have a whole fried fish that they do. I want to try that next! The customer service was great, very welcoming. I guess I had no idea what to expect here. It's more like a deli-style ordering than a restaurant. They have everything in the warming display and you pick what you want and sit down. Legit Filipino food w/ lots of regulars and locals stopping by. Sadly, I don't live near here, but this came by the recommendation of someone who lived nearby for many years. I only sampled a few things, including the lumpia, longanisa, and pork sinigang. The sinigang was probably my favorite, with a light broth that was tangy and flavorful, with a good portion of tender pork and greens. The prices are reasonable here, and very good for mostly coming out of the hot bar they operate out of - probably because of high turnover. I've noticed many Filipino places operate similarly, and the food has always been excellent. Pretty dang good for Lakewood Eats. I'm filipino and the food definitely passed the kababayan and kagat test. Got there before 11:30 because I wasn't sure what the set up was. People posted a lot of photos of a buffet set up. It isn't a Buffett but they have all the dishes displayed. I think this is helpful especially if you have not tried this cuisine before. You order at the counter then seat yourself. Combo meals come with rice. These dishes are really best eaten with rice because they primarily consist of simmered meat in a sauce or soup. They offered a good variety of dishes (mechado, mongo, sinigang, tinola). The man behind the counter was friendly. I ordered dinuguan (blood stew, this was made with pork) and Laing (taro leaves, coconut milk, pork). I like both of these best when they are spicy. These tasted good but not as spicy. I like dinuguan a little thicker too. All in all, I would order this again. I loved that the Laing was packed with Taro leaves. The portions are perfect. The adobo and pancit was also great. I am definitely coming back for more. Glad to have this close by when I need a break from American food! The only downside is that when I got there, not all the dishes were made. I had to wait about 15min for pancit and they didn't have lumpia. I recommend calling or coming by a little later. I arrived at 1115, with the sole purpose of wanting to buy lumpia to satisfy my need for something crunchy. I stood in line staring at the menu trying to figure out what was what - there are no descriptions of the menu items, just names, so I was left guessing. I wanted to purchase the pancit and the chicken adobo, but the worker (maybe the owner) suggested I purchase the combo because it was cheaper. I said okay and to my surprise, it was half white rice, a quarter pancit and a quarter chicken adobo which only consisted of 4 pieces for $10.34. The meat to carb ratio was not great. They didn't have any lumpia ready and I didn't have time to spare for them to finish cooking it. Bummer.... especially since that was my main reason for going there. I was done with my meal in 5 minutes flat... I ended up wasting the majority of the rice. I wish I had stuck to my original order instead of getting the combo. Maybe I should have listened to the other reviews and went later in the day so everything would have been prepared. On a side note, the chicken, or lack there of did taste pretty amazing. Let's get right to it. Lumpia was savory and good. Very crispy, packed with filling, and delightful to mindlessly munch through. Easily one of the best things at this place. Pork Adobo - Really savory, easy to chew, and flavored all the way through. Delicious. I loved every bite of it with rice. Kare Kare - Bland, extremely oily, just a slight peanut butter taste (with an incredible amount of straight up oil). I don't understand why this popped up so frequently in reviews for this restaurant. It was really bland.. and I love peanut butter.. Not only that, I was given two small pieces of meat and the rest was a ton of bone. What..? The ultimate disappointment. Oh Maresol! My favorite Filipino Turo Turo in Lakewood. Me and my boyfriend come here atleast once or twice a month. We love their beef caldereta it is cooked just the way my mom would make it back when I was still living in Philippines. They have good pancit bihon, dinuguan and pork sinigang. Everytime I go to the Restaurant, the guy is so rude and disrespectful. "Bastos" Last time I went, he didn't even greet me. I was next in line, he was helping another guy before me. When it was my turn, he walked away without saying anything to put food in his mouth. You walk in and he's like "what do you want." The food is way overpriced. The last time I went, all I bought was pinakbet with pork adobo and rice, 2 halo-halo and Bicol which was $3 and paid $33. Why? The food is good but not that good. The only reason why I even go is because it's the only Filipino Restaurant in the region. I only go once every few months but still. Every time I go, its always a bad experience. Decided to come here after church last Saturday bec we were craving Filipino food. Immediately upon arrival we were being rushed and seemed like we were in a race. This being our first time at this place not knowing what they had available to eat. Simply ordered chicken adobo and beef machado I even confirmed it with him and repeated it to our server ( older guy) didn't seem to like his job. I was speaking with my wife and turned and saw my plate with pork adobo on it. Told the server (older guy) is that pork, he replied yes. I told him I said chicken adobo not pork adobo, this is due to religoius practices. He then said I even asked u with an attitude and I replied yeah I told u chicken. He then fixed the order and we moved on. This is the problem with small businesses that u want to support they take no accountability and have the nerve to question your order. Maybe if u would slow down and not rush and speed with everyone's order u wouldn't make the mistake. Lastly, watch how u speak to other grown MEN! Especially customers.
