We had tried one of the white pizzas out a couple of years ago and really enjoyed and the baked ziti pizza did not disappoint. I have a rule that whenever there is baked ziti pizza or penne vodka pizza on the menu I have to give it a try and this is one of the best I've had. While the baked ziti could have been baked on to the pizza a little bit better, the taste was still great. Besides this pizza, compared to the other places in town I think the prices are competitive and the number of things on the menu is pretty large. So if you're looking for a really solid pizza spot around the university of Delaware campus, then Margherita's is a top contender. read more

WOW I was highly disappointed. After ordering our pizza, we were told with delivery it would be about 45 minutes which the time would be 8:15 pm.... 9 pm was actually when the pizza arrived....cold - and charged the full $24.68. No let real apology. Just sorry... WOW.... I'll give you one star - one for presentation ( besides being cold). Great place for "New York" style pizza on Main Street! The pizzas on display behind the counter are the different options you can choose from. I usually go for either a slice of cheese ($2.50) or a slice of Margherita ($3.50). Whatever you pick, the slice will be quickly warmed up in the oven for you. The slices, by the way, are huge. Think of a typical slice of pizza and then double the surface area. The large slice yet thin crust makes pizza here the perfect end to a fun night. The service at Margherita's is also fantastic. It's quick and friendly. My friend actually had a long talk about pizza with one of the workers behind the counter. Apparently Margherita's tries to make New York style pizza but it's difficult to get the flavor right due to New York having certain minerals in their water. Even though I would agree that the pizza here doesn't taste exactly like New York pizza, I would say that the texture is spot on. The dough they use to make the thin crust is wonderful. The cheese stretches when the pizza is hot. Etc. I want to come back to try all their pizza selections! read more

Newark Main Street has changed so much since my high school days (80's) to college (90's) to my adulting life. New stores and restaurants pop up all of the time, but Margherita's has stood the test of time. Quality's the same as I remember it three decades ago. It's old looking, there's a couple of 13" tube TV's (and a flat screen on the wall), but the food is why people go here. I originally had the pizza and I liked the cheese slice, the grandma slice wasnt for me but it was still good. I likes the cheese on the traditional slice. I recently decided to try the wings, they were very good. They reminded me of like a Pat's pizza, which is actually a very underrated wing. Overall, this is a great place to get some pizza and wings. Decent slice, best eaten at the rester aunt, not delivery. Crust is soft, with a decent crunch. Cheese slice isn't too greasy, nice flavor in the dough, a little sweet, sauce is sort of neutral, but not bad. I'd prefer a bit more flavor from the sauce, and a bit more sauce, but it's probably one of the better pizza places here. They have lots of interesting 'by the slice' flavor combos, and also do some sicilian thick bready dough style pizza too, which is good. They have a good tomato pie. read more

Sadly I don't think I'll be ordering from margherita's anymore. I used to order from them frequently but the last few times the quality of food has been horrible, I'm not sure if they hired a new grill cook or what. The cheesesteaks I've ordered have been so soggy that the bread is mush all the way through, the chicken pieces they use for the BBQ chicken pizza which used to be my favorite is consistently dry and hard, barely edible. By the looks of the new website that was updated today they may be under new management however if my recent experiences are any indication it's not worth a trip. read more

Pizza was ok but it seems they either changed cheese or used some substitute that was not near as good as past.... but my wife got an Italian sub and asked for everything which was 90% lettuce. No italian spices, no salami, no capacola, not even any pepper ham on it.. it had 2 slices of ham, a slice of provolone, dill pickles and roasted peppers in stead of hot and sweet peppers.... the roll was fresh but they should know what an italian sub is.... shameful for $9.99!!! The food isn't awful, but the place just gives me a bad vibe. The place is so dirty and dark and the people aren't particularly friendly. The food is also rather expensive for a pizza joint on Main Street. I got an Italian sub and an appetizer combo that included fries, onion rings, mozzo sticks, and wings. The sub was pretty good but nothing to write home about. I also found it weird that the guy on the phone never asked me what I wanted on the sub. I didn't even realize it until I hung up the phone. Granted, this isn't a sub place, but it is a little strange that I wasn't asked what I wanted on it. For the record, it had mayo, oil, tomatoes, lettuce, and oregano on it, which is probably what I would have asked for anyway. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were decent. The fries were crinkle-cut and bad. But the wings. I honestly think they use Tyson wings with how rubbery they are. Again, I know the place specializes in pizza and not wings, but if they're so bad, why even put them on the menu? Margherita's isn't awful, but I wouldn't really recommend it. If you want pizza, go to Grotto's or Piece a Pizza, and if you want a sub, go to Cap's or Primo's. read more

After moving to Maryland I rarely get to Margarita's but I am happy to report that the pizza is still as delicious as ever. The family split an XL cheese pizza and it was pure perfection. The sauce is divine, the ideal balance of zesty, savory, and perfect spices. The cheese is high quality and just the right amount, texture and flavor. The crust is thin and floppy in a good way, with the edge having a few choice bubbles and great minor crunch. This is one of the best NY style pizzas I have had anywhere over the past 30 years. Yes, it really is that good! One minor downside is that they don't have oregano, which I love on my pizza. Maybe they will have it next time. Oh, and don't expect anything fancy. This is a bit of a hole in the wall, counter service but it keeps prices reasonable. Come here for the pizza, not the ambiance! read more

Where else can you grab a slice of pepperoni and pair it with mushroom and spinach white pizza... or any other of the 8 or nine kinds they have waiting for you. I was born outside of Chicago, so pizza has been a huge part of my life. I don't mess around when it comes to pizza and I like to hope that I know a good slice when I bite one. This is the best pizza place in walking distance from the University of Delaware campus. Their slices easily surpass every other slice offered on Main Street. Margherita's is open pretty late so I've found myself stumbling in after many frat parties with friends for a late night bite. The staff has a great sense of humor once you begin to realize their humor. They have a lot of patience when it comes to the type of crowd they often get- drunk college students. If you're coming with children, I'd recommend staying away on Saturdays after 2pm. I've dined in and gotten take out from here and the pizza always tastes amazing. The pies are on display behind a glass barrier so you're able to get a good look at what you'd like. My favorites are the margerita pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza. The barbeque chicken is pretty good too, and plain cheese will never disappoint. The crust is very thin but perfectly crispy and the slices are big. They toss your slices or pizza into the brick oven right when you order it so they're always served warm. They offer all types of standard Italian seasonings for you to adorn your slice with however you so desire. They also offer house salads topped with cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, croutons and peppers which are surprisingly delicious. The lettuce is crisp and fresh. The hoagies and subs they offer a variety of are also very good. One of my favorite features of Margherita's is their pitchers of beer. A college student favorite challenge is the "Pitcher Race". Basically you form a team of two-four and race another team to finish your pitcher. It's absolutely terrible and miserable but it's a lot of fun and a great stop for any Bar Crawl come the month of May. The workers are very tolerant of the students. Best pizza in Newark. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's really the only pizza in Newark. There is, of course, Grotto's, but it's about as close to what pizza should be as pepperoni Hot Pockets. But don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying Margherita's is only the best by default. It is also extremely good pizza, and not just after a night at the bar. They always have a multitude of pizza types to choose from, and every one is perfect. Personal favourite: Buffalo chicken pizza I haven't lived in Newark for almost a decade but I still look forward to grabbing a slice whenever I have to drive through DE for any reason. I went in to pick up my pizza and used my debit card for payment- I was going to give a cash tip- but when I gave them the copy I signed the owner looked down and said very sarcastically- thanks for the tip! Opinions vary, but to me, this is the best slice of pizza on Main Street. Prices are great for slices, and the service is quick. Full pies run higher on the cost scale, but their quality does match the pie you're getting. And for gourmet pizza junkies, the various configurations of pizzas definitely showcase a sublime understanding of pizza not common found in today's "pizza is junk food" mentality. As for the store itself, it could definitely use a little tlc and a coat of paint. Nothing too fancy, but just an effort to show that they have moved the ovens to make sure nothing's been growing behind them for the 30+ years they've sat there. But hey, you're not paying for an extravagant eat in experience, you're getting a darn good slice of pizza for an excellent price. Don't stray off the pizza menu though. To do so would be to deprive yourself of an excellent pizza experience. There's better places to get cheese steaks, wraps, and other trendy foods in Newark. And for family's with kids, picking up pizzas is great, but showing up with a full family to eat in is not recommended. The booths in the back have a hard time comfortably seating 2 people, let alone 4 or more. I recommend the Buffalo chicken pizza. Margherita's has cracked the code to the most delicious specialty pizza of all time. And for late nighters, this is the place to get your pizza. read more

Crispy, thin crust pizza.

I wanted to go in here because it looks like some of the hole-in-the wall pizza places I'm used to in the Chicago area, where the storefront is humble but the product is excellent. I was not disappointed; the crust is excellent, very crispy and fresh tasting. They have a lot of options as far as pizza and toppings go. I got the BBQ chicken and the bacon chicken and ranch pizzas, they were exactly what I was looking for. Also found out they sold beer, so I'll definitely be back soon! read more
