Went to Margherita's Pizza new location at S.College Ave for a slice and a stromboli. Their NY style pizza is very good and was not disappointed. Love the thin crust . The stromboli was not up to par. My wife ordered the Italian stromboli. It came out as basically a chopped ham and cheese. Ham was cut in chunks with lots of mozzarella. It looked like they either forgot about the salami and then shredded one piece and stuck it in there. I guess we assumed an Italian stromboli it would have ham, salami and pepperoni. Not here. We pointed this out to the waitress for here to pass this on to the owners. One of the guys that seated us came back and pointed at a tiny piece of salami and said it's in there. If I were him I would have offered to put more on the stromboli. His attitude gave me the impression that he wasn't really interested in making it right. There are many good independent pizza restaurants and I will be going to them but not back to Margherita's. #disappointed! P.S. The stromboli also came to the table with burn marks on it. read more

Now i am here from out of town and i decided to go to Newark's main street on a snowy day to see what they had going on there. I get on yelp and find this place. The guys working there are cool and loud, they get my order. 15 minutes later they bring my pizza to the table, I see it and it looks alright. So I grab a slice bite into it and BAAAAAAM! That shit is good. I gotta tell you guys have one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Its not too greasy and the bread is thin and crunchy. I might go there tonight. read more

Sorry Margherita's, this was TERRIBLE. The delivery was quick, too quick. The thin, soggy, sausage fat laiden pizza was all jumbled in the box. AND IT WAS COLD. The fries? Soggy, and potato-y. Y'know, when there's somehow too much potato in french fries? Maybe they were undercooked. Now, I went in to Margherita's a couple of months ago and it wasn't that bad. It was decent pizza (which is slightly harder to find than you'd think, considering we're in a college town, well, unless you want chain pizza). I don't know what happened. Ordered pasta dishes for delivery from here. One was penne a la vodka, but it was watery, chunky and flavorless. More like penne a la s***t. The Alfredo sauce was nothing short of disappointing as well, no taste whatsoever. Might as well have been milk on pasta. Absolutely ghastly in all aspects. Hands down best New York style pizza outside of the buroughs. The crust is always crisp where it needs to be crisp and tender where it needs to be tender. The sauce they use has a perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. The Philly style cheese steaks come with the perfect portions of meat and cheese and the roll is the perfect accompaniment with a flakey exterior and pillowy insides. I always recommend Magheritas Pizza to all of my out of town friends. I have never been disappointed with the service or the food. All in all this Fat Guy gives them a thumbs up! read more

Hello, I just ordered from them recently, and I have to say, what horrible people. It was simply a nightmare. I tried to call the delivery person 3 times, he never answered. When he finally did he informed me that he had left with the food because he had, "been there too long." I tried to call the establishment, and when the manager answered, I asked to have my money refunded. I don't know why she did this, but she hung up. When she answered again after 2 more calls she finally agreed to refund my money for the food I did not receive. Thanks Margherita's. read more

I stopped by Margherita's around lunchtime today for the first time in a few years. When I was a student at UD, this was probably the best "hole in the wall" pizza place in town - and lord knows there are plenty of pizza places around Newark. Today, the waiting area was pretty packed but the two guys running the show did well in managing the quasi-crowd. As opposed to the people who used to manage the place (maybe they had the day off), these guys were much nicer than I was expecting. And though I waited for a few minutes for them to even acknowledge me, for which I can't blame them, the wait was definitely worth it. The pizza I got... a cheese slice and a buffalo chicken slice... were as great as I remembered. Big slices, the right amount of grease, crispy crust, flavorful; for the price, it's on-point. I docked a star only because right after I ordered, one of the guys suddenly asked "Tip?" I didn't know what to say for a second... why would you ask someone for a tip before you even serve them their food? He was just shoveling some pizza in and out of an oven anyway. I don't think I've ever seen a server do that before, but I guess there's a first time for everything! read more

This place is a well rounded pizza joint, with a small selection of beer and a variety of pizzas to choose from. Reasonably priced, kind of dated interior. What sets this place apart is there Buffalo Chicken topped pizza. Every other joint does their Buffalo Chicken specialties pizzas as this big ordeal with the hot sauce under the cheese and a couple of other wacko things. These guys simply plop the chicken on top of a regular pizza and voila! the best buffalo chicken topped pizza ever. read more

Once upon a time, this place use to be good. The quality seems to have fallen off significantly due to the new management. The pizza is extremely thin and soggy. The guys working behind the counter do not allow the pizza to bake 100% so you end up having a semi raw pizza. Margherita's Pizza just reopened at a new location and I was super excited to try it. When I arrived it was super busy. After waiting for several minutes and not getting any closer to the front of the line an angry customer and an employee began raising their voices at each other. This made me and my friend worry that our orders would not be right after waiting in the long line so we left and decided to go somewhere else. Awesome pizza. True story: while driving back to DE from MD last week I I had the pizza craving so I pulled onto 896 and made it to Main Street. I ordered 2 slices of buffalo chicken for $6. Big chunks of chicken and a just right amount of sauce and cheese. I got it to go in a box and got back in my car planning to eat it on the go. I start to steer with my left and eat with my right. As I attempt to double the slice over i my right hand, the chicken becomes too heavy and about half the slice takes a dive onto the seat, my jacket and pants. Did it faze me? Not at all. I ate everything that fell, then polished off the slice, and then managed the second slice more carefully. It is so good that I am not even a little pissed about getting all over myself and my car. A fresh pizza here is great...key word: "fresh." Slices are ok...they sit out a while, which is weak. Also, the workers handle them with their bare hands, right after handling cash or a credit card. These guys need some good safety training ASAP. Also, the slices are a bit high price wise. It wouldn't take much to put this place out of business. Some friendlier and cleaner employees would make a world of difference...as would a cleaner, better lit restaurant. The restrooms are also disgusting. But, pizza is probably best on Main Street. Agree with Jill K. that this as close to NY-style pizza as you'll find in Delaware. This place has a great tradition of cheap slices and sodas and it's a staple for college kids. Good pizza!!! We did a large pie of half cheese and half buffalo chicken came out to about $14. Very tasty. I don't like how they don't have REAL bleu cheese-- ya know with the crumbles and all. They have the dressing packets that are meant for salads. read more

Basically the only pizzeria-style pizza in town. Season's and Pat's do a sort of thick crust that I usually call "Delaware pizza". Peace-a-Pizza is more for the specialty pizza. Margherita's is your classic type of pizza (coming from New Jersey anyway). Their plain, buffalo, and deep dish are all good. read more
