Stopped by for brunch on a weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Margot is a super cute restaurant with a comfortable rooftop patio. I was excited to sit outside on a warm day but it was colder than expected. They had heaters which made it really comfortable and shade so it wasn't extremely sunny. Everyone from the hosts to the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I felt the food was a little overpriced. The pasta dish was so bland and nothing special at all, and instead of the durad they brought us the swordfish with some fried eggplants on it. We didn't say anything and gave it a try. It was horrible! The fish was super dry! It was as if cooked hours ago and re heated and topped off with cold eggplant that had been stored in the fridge for days. Their food is nothing special! We totally understand a kitchen fee or staff fee or anything that helps people make a living wage, but we've never seen an Admin Fee before so we asked our server for more details and he couldn't explain it. Then we asked for the manager and the more he tried to explain it, the weirder it seemed. He said it is to compensate "top management" and clearly admitted none of it goes to staff. I asked "Isn't that compensation called running a business?" and he didn't have a good answer. WTAF?!?!? We asked if there was any way to remove it and he said "nope." I booked Margot for my daughter's graduation brunch. Communication with Sara was great in terms of emailing about logistics, payment, menu, etc. and she was very flexible with my scheduling and welcoming in the ballon artist to set up decorations. The actual experience the day of wasn't so pleasant. A couple of the umbrellas were either burned or broken. One umbrella was broken and hit my mother in the back of her head. We told one of the staff it was broken, and he came over and turned the umbrella in a way that didn't help and later on it hit my son in the back. We wound up having to Jimmy rig and fix it ourselves. The food service was also subpar. There was a 45 min gap between when we finished the appetizers and the meals finally came out. I kept asking when the food would come, and the waiter just kept saying we're working on it. He wouldn't give me a timeframe. A few pieces of chicken were bloody and raw in the center and the salmon was unevenly cooked. I looked for Sara and she was gone by that time. I had no idea she would be taking off after the event started. I also gave Sara specific instruction that I did not want to pay for alcoholic beverages for any of the guests. Nonetheless, I got the bill for that at the end. I told the waiter that I didn't approve any of that and he said "well I was just doing what I was told". I have no idea what that meant and I had no support staff to help me navigate how I set up the event. To be honest, the waiter made me feel bad because I expressed these concerns about the bill, and so I decided to pay and get out. In the end the most important thing is that my daughter was celebrated. I won't be returning to Margot. Not just because the food, decor, and service issues. Located on the rooftop of Platform in Culver City there are some great views from the cozy patio. Almost everything we tried was very good but unfortunately we had a limited menu due to COVID-19. This is where we took my wife on Mother's Day and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Everything was delicious and the drinks were great. First, I started with lovely olives and the grilled focaccia with the smoked fish dip. I could have stopped there. Bread was fresh, and the hummus-style dip was exactly as described: smoky and creamy. Three of us each ordered an entree: seafood risotto, squid ink campanelle, and rigatoni. The tender, moist short rib mixed with the tangy arugula pesto made the rigatoni the stand out for us. I also enjoyed the crunchy texture of the squid ink. Other than that, the server didn't come back often enough and didn't check in on us until we had finished our meals. Even after the check was dropped off, we waited over 25 minutes before we were finally able to pay. Now for the food and drinks, I felt a bit underwhelmed by the food options. The pasta I got was okay, but the zucchini tasted a bit sour. The potatoes bravas were tasty, but the sauce it came with was not great. It was creamy, but it almost tasted like creamy paprika, and it didn't taste very pleasant. The wine list is hugeeeeee! I enjoyed the wine I got, but I wasn't fully impressed by it. The server stated that the sommelier was on-site, but no one came to the table to help us choose a wine we'd enjoy. The views were nice, but it was so cold on the patio. There were heat lamps, but they weren't turned up high enough to provide warmth, and no one came to the table to check-in or give us an opportunity to ask for the heat to be turned on higher like some of the other heat lamps around the rooftop. I was trying to get extra steps so I took the stairs, it was a mistake. There are a lot of stairs so just take the elevator. Potatoes Bravas - A must here. Oddly enough, they aren't like french fries. These are much more crispy and not overbearing on the potato. 1/2 dozen oysters - They were so fresh and served with cocktail sauce and lemon. They easily come off the shell. Crudo - I had yellowtail crudo and, again, it was very fresh. Conchiglie - If you love truffle like me you have to get this. The outdoor dining area is lovely, and my colleagues and I had a relaxing lunch. However, there were a couple of aspects of our experience that bring my rating down to three stars. When our waiter was with us, he was very pleasant but not well informed. We ordered cocktails and a few appetizers. The patatas bravas were delicious, and the crudo was very good. The little gem salad was light and refreshing. The jamon Iberico was plated and arranged in a round circle. The plate and the jamon were chilled, so this dish clearly had been plated well in advance and came from the refrigerator, not freshly sliced off of a whole pork leg, as it is everywhere else. As a result, the jamon all stuck together and we had to shred it apart to share it. The cold altered the texture and was all-in-all very disappointing. It takes a couple of minutes for a kitchen professional to slice it freshly. For $28 for an ounce, I'd expect it to be served properly. I can buy it like this at the grocery store for eight bucks! There were seven of us, and six of the mains arrived in two quicks waves. Three of us had ordered the fried chicken. Two orders came out, and we expected the third to follow immediately. Ten minutes came and went. Our waiter was nowhere in sight. Another server passed by, and we got his attention. A few minutes later, my chicken arrived. While it was delicious, the inattention to our table was disappointing. Furthermore, there was no apology for the delay. I'd return for cocktails and appetizers, but given the bumpy meal service, I wouldn't return for a full meal. read more

Then we ordered the two "entrees," the swordfish and the wagyu and guess what? We got sides of MORE potatoes bravas...I don't know if this was because they have a limited menu due to COVID or this is how it is normally prepared, but I feel like our waiter could have warned us. "Hey, since you're ordering the potatoes bravas, may I suggest another side for the fish and meat dishes?" We didn't get a chance to check out the patio, but I look forward to a next time. We just had a couple bites and drinks, so I'd definitely like to check out some other items in the future! I've been to Margot twice, first time I went I had a mostly solid experience, the second time, less so. The food in both cases was pretty good, not spectacular, but in combination with a lovely deck, seemed like a place worth going back to. First time I went everything was smooth, but I realized that we'd been rushed out essentially. It was a dinner with 5 people, they'd managed to pace it all such that we were out the door in about an hour. This group has done these dinners dozens of times over many years, never gotten through a meal that quickly. Second time I went, upon arrival, we were asked to wait in the bar. 15 minutes beyond our reservation time, we asked about the timing, we're told it'll be at least another 30 minutes, the table we're waiting for just got their main courses. They offer us inside seating (those tables were mostly empty, the deck is really the best option there, we'd made a reservation weeks out for the deck). In the end we take inside. No one apologized once. No one offered anything as an apology. Of course mistakes happen, sometimes people linger at tables, we expected a certain level of professionalism, that we thought was lacking at Margot. The meal was fine, inside wasn't ideal, pretty loud next to a bachelorette party. It just feels like a restaurant that is more about a great deck, less about food, and not super concerned about the overall experience. read more

This place is located at the Platform shopping center. Parking can be difficult but they have two parking garages - valet for $5 (next to the shopping center) and self park $6 (across the street in a rainbow colored structure). Parking can be validated for both garages, so just remember to bring your validation from Margot. I went for lunch with a friend around 12:30 on a Saturday. We weren't sure how busy it would be so we made reservations ahead of time. Finding the restaurant can be a little tricky. You have to walk past boba guys and it's towards the back and you have to take an elevator to the rooftop. Upon entering, you get greeted by the hostess. This place has a nice ambient and is very pleasing to the eye. Service was great and they were really nice! I ordered the porchetta benedict ($17). It was okay for the expensive price tag and it was a little salty for my taste. I could barely finish it. My friend got the avocado toast ($13) and it honestly tasted so much better than my benedict with a reasonable price tag. Overall, I more so enjoyed the location of the restaurant (at Platform) because we were able to walk and browse the shopping center for a couple of hours. Such a cute vibe! Went for Sunday brunch and the accommodated our 6 person group on the outside patio. Customer service was awesome (I totally forgot his name!) but he was quick and gave great suggestions! The brunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu (understandably) but everyone found something they wanted to try and we actually all enjoyed our meals! Hands down the waygu steak and eggs were amazing, it's also paired with the fingerling potatoes so it's a hearty meal. My husband got the French toast which was yummy but on the sweeter side. A cool looking restaurant n the inside--modern and trendy (reminiscent of the warehouse restaurants in DTLA). It was a great place for a business lunch. I had the grilled broccoli with a side salmon. Really truly delicious-- Broccoli was charred and still crunchy, sitting in a smear of yoghurt. And the salmon was perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, and fully cooked on the inside.
