Food Truck usually parked near Hardware Hawai'i

This is the only place in all of Hawai'i that can make street tacos right. Just remember it's one guy working, so please be patient for your food! It's so worth it. Also if you're ever trying to look for this place according to the location on maps, save yourself some time and just go to the intersection of Oneawa and Kīhāpai St.

Had a chicken burrito, it was special. But I have had trouble figuring out the schedule and where to find this truck! I'll keep looking for it, it was that good! Went back just now ordered the lengua street tacos with bean and rice. Delicious. Homemade refried beans and the rice is served with chunks of nicely cooked potatoes and seasoned nicely. The tacos were also very good, and simple, filling was tender, served with plenty of fresh cilantro and diced white onion. Homemade salsa might be chipotle, flavorful with perfect amount of zing to it.

We have lived in Kailua for a few years and it was out first time trying Maria Bonita. The food truck is located next to Timmy Ts & Hardware Hawaii. We read other reviews and took the suggestion of calling ahead. BTW their phone number is not posted on Yelp but I found it in one of their Yelp photos. Call 808-286-5113 to call your order in! Our time for pick up was 40 mins on a Saturday night during the holidays. Food: We ordered Carnitas Chili Verde Wet Burrito plate, Shredded Chicken Quesadilla plate, Carne Asada Torta, and Chicken Enchiladas Zuisas plate. Each plate came with rice and beans. They were very generous with cheese, sauce, salsa and sour cream. The Wet Burrito was massive! The Torta was so delicious. All the food was surprisingly amazing, especially since Hawaii lacks the abundance of Mexican food compared to the mainland. I grew up in San Antonio, TX and the west coast. Maria Bonita is the closest Mexican food truck that reminds me of fresh made Mexican food like Texas. Thank you Maria Bonita for being such a gem!

I've heard about this place from so many people. And I finally came to my senses and tried it. Normally people get the common Mexican foods (tacos, chimichangas). But I was interested in the Tosta (Mexican sandwich). The sandwich is filled with beans, tomatoes, cilantro, cheese and a choice of meat. I got the shredded beef. At first when I ordered, I was getting impatient because it was taking longer than I expected. I waited patiently in my car and one of the gentleman that was working came to my car and personally handed me my order. Really nice and excellent service, better than some established businesses. So as far as food, I took a bite of the sandwich and let me tell you all!!! It was sooo bomb! The bread was so soft and the shredded beef was good quality, it legit taste like someone's Abuela made the food. Overall, I would totally go back and try the other stuffs. But I'm totally sold on this sandwich! I had to take a picture and make a post.

Maria Bonita is hands down some of the best Mexican food I've had in Hawaii. I've probably driven past hundreds of times and never noticed it until my mom and I went on a mission last night. It's tucked into a tiny lot between Timmy T's and Hardware Hawaii, across from the little strip of shops containing one my favorite coffee places, ChadLou's. We arrived around 6:45, ordered, and ended up waiting until about 7:15. But you can't complain - it's entirely a one man show! Although our stomachs were growling by the time we got home, the food was well worth the wait. We tried their steak and carnitas tacos, beef burrito plate, and steak chimichanga plate. First off, the portions are huge. You get what you pay for here. What was interesting was that there seemed to be some carrots in the Mexican rice and some bits of potato in the filling of my chimichanga. Strange, but tasty nonetheless. The steak wasn't thickly cubed like it normally is, but more like thinly sliced steak strips (the kind you would get in a Philly cheesesteak). The top of my chimichanga was a bit soggy since the lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream had been sitting atop it for a while, but surprisingly, the bottom was still crispy. My parents both thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. I recommend calling in your order ahead of time and asking how long it's going to take before you make your way on down. We got there right before about 8 other people, so I expect that they waited closer to 40 minutes for their food. Definitely find some time to give Maria Bonita a visit if you're in Kailua. You won't regret it.

But a solid 7-8/10. I had the grilled pescado mazatlan I think they called it. Well cooked fish. The sauce on top was a tomato based one that was really good. I thought the rice lacked flavor--you can always tell because it was very light red instead of a more vibrant red which means there wasn't enough tomato juice while cooking the rice or whatever. Black beans were plentiful, tender, and tasty. My date had the enchiladas verde. Yall. I'm not a green chili guy. I like the tomato based kind much more. But, I'm not joking here, I could drink that chili verde all day. It has this really tangy taste to it that is just perfect. I had good envy because of the sauce. Also the free chips & salsa was good. The chips were probably store bought and I feel like maybe the salsa too? If it was, they need to tell me where they get it because I loved it. The restaurant is smallish on the inside but can accommodate a larger crowd. The parking lot is cramped so if you go when it's busy, I'd recommend parking on the street and walking cuz I'm 100% sure cars get bumped while maneuvering in that lot all the time. Would recommend to anyone who needs a good Mexican food fix. Prices are typical for Oahu. 4 stars cuz they didn't have fish tacos which I was craving and the bland rice.

But don't let that deter you. We waited quietly and patiently at the check in counter, and watched the staff walk between taking orders, delivering water and dishes. No one caught our eye to say we'll be with you in a minute, even if they stood right in front of us touching their counter pad. We thought we were being ignored. We didn't try to stop anyone, though. Others from behind squeezed past us to just get seats at the bar. However, we had a group of five wanting to dine in at a table. I watched as seated guests waited for someone to take their orders. As soon as staff were able to engage, we were greeted, and advised where we'd be seated once another staff member had mopped the floor by the table. And then the service was great from there. Well into our meal, which was delish(!), with water refills and requests fulfilled, we discovered there was a brand new gal on deck who was trying to be helpful with utensils and napkin prep, but no one had a chance to train during the lunch rush, which was above the normal crowd because of the wonderful community event right outside - the "I Love Kailua" street fair). Everything was just super busy. And I say lunch rush with tongue in cheek because it was well past the lunch hour and people were still lining up out the door. So glad everyone was patient and were able to enjoy their food and beverages (we weren't drinking but those margaritas looked fire!) in air conditioned comfort. Don't forget to ask for the salsa, sour cream, or guacamole. Once staff are in rhythm, everything works out.

Enter Chili Relleno onto my radar as I hunt for something close to the enchilada plate I am longing for (RIL Azteca). Ambience is thumbs up with bright festive decor and our server, Saylor, was a pleasant balance of attentiveness, efficiency, and fun. As I said, a standard, decent enchiladas plates is not the easiest meal to come by on Oahu, and it just happens to be my number one comfort food. I've dined here going on four times, which means this restaurant alone has brought me to Kaneohe more than anything in my middle aged life has ever done.
