It is interesting that online your hours state that you are open until 9pm especially during this quarantine. The "Open" sign is on and there was a women on the phone. Being from South Dakota, I ALWAYS look forward to one good meal at a Mexican Restaurant while in Utah. Reviews about Maria Bonita Mexican Grill were so wrong from portion size to friendly service. I really don't know what keeps them in business????? First of all, you seat yourself at a STICKY table and I mean the sticky where nothing moves, it's dirty sticky! Then you are given a sticky and small printed menu. Oh I forgot, they bring you a bowl of chips and salsa that aren't worth the time to eat. Chips have a burnt taste if you like that, not even the salsa will help. After you order, you wait and wait and wait. Finally we each were served a bowl of soup, or was it flavored water with yesterday's left over rice in it? They said it was chicken soup (might I add without a spoon)! Well they forgot the chicken in the soup and added some floating grease to give it color. Yuck!!!! We left it. Six people in our party and only five sets of silverware brought to the table. So after the food was brought, I waited and waited while my food chilled before I was able to get the waitress' attention for another set of silverware. Examining the rest of the food on the table, I happen to notice the large amounts of grease spattered on the fajita platter that my boyfriend ordered. Then upon looking deeper into the food itself, there were oceans of grease beginning to harden and take shape as his food cooled. He sat patiently waiting for his flour tortillas to arrive while his food chilled. I didn't want to say anything to my boyfriend about his choice of dishes but it wasn't long after taking his first bite that he began to speak up. He said he was getting a layer of grease coating his throat that made it unpleasant and he couldn't finish his meal, yet he had hardly began. I then told him I too could see the grease floating amongst the meat. He pushed it aside and never did get a refill of water to help rinse out his mouth. Yuck!!!! The rest of us managed to finish our food. It was barely good. The beans were strange tasting too. I must add after reading other reviews that the portions are not BIG or HUGE. Not so!!! Time to pay. The waitress cleared the table and as she took the fajita platter, still with nearly all the food that it came with, we told her about the grease. She said she was sorry and then came back with the ticket. We checked and they were charging us full price for the meal. We asked about an adjustment for the cost but she didn't do it. Soon a man (I assume the manager) was at our table and offered us a free meal when we come back again. He said he had a new cook on duty tonight. We explained we were from South Dakota (but four people in our group lived in Saratoga Springs, Utah), and we definitely wouldn't be coming back. He shrugged his shoulders as if to say "too bad" and left the price as was. Now customer service is worth a lot. I wouldn't be writing the review if they had removed the cost of that one meal. It would have cost them $10 to do so. But if only one couple or possibly even a single person, much less to talk about a group of people read this review, I'm betting they won't go to Maria Bonita's and it will end up costing a lot more than it would have to satisfy ONE person. No tip for the waitress (because of her service) and a mean remark she made to us as we left. Absolutely NO to Maria Bonita's and a BIG YES to Mi Ranchero. Some of the worst service I have ever experienced in all my days of eating out. It took 15 minutes after being seated to even get our drinks or meet our waitress. They know how to cook the food well, but due to the shitty service I'll be going somewhere else. The food is honestly not bad, but if I ever come back I will be getting food to go. It was just rough seeing people sit down after us, eat their food, and then leave before we got ours. In total it took 45 minutes after our order was placed to receive it, and the waitress never refilled our drinks or checked on us. Side note: it was 2pm when we went. If you heard of 'mi champion' or 'mi princess' it is for sure because you experienced the best Mexican food from this place. Love their free soup appetizer. I'm surprised this doesn't have 5 starts I cannot think of anything bad, the price is very reasonable and the food service size is huge. You can get 3 carne asada tacos for $5 and with the 2 free appetizer of soup and chips/salsa you can get full. I always get the fried tilapia, it's the only place in Utah county that serves it, and cooks it right. Their fried banana is a must try! read more

Alot of other reviews here are really glowing but I have to say I wasn't really too impressed. The food isn't bad but it's certainly not the best I've had either. I would probably be a bit more impressed if the price were a bt lower. I paid $12 for a lunch that should have been below $10 IMHO. I know that some places don't go all out for lunch like they do at night which may have been the case. Great place! It may not be the nicest in town, but the service and food was exceptional. Called in advanced because it was already 10PM and they happily obliged to let us come by for a late dinner opposed to take-out. We were immediately greeted by Maria with a high five and a friendly hug. She brought us to our table (next to a running fireplace) and came out providing each person with their own bowls of chips/salsa and another bowl of soup. I ordered a giant seafood platter (Snow crab legs, green mussels, octopus, fish filet, shrimp) and it was very tasty. My colleagues enjoyed their dishes as well. The portions as others have mentioned were huge, mind you we had to clear our table just to get our actual entrees on the table. My fam had various reviews on their meals but I'd say that mostly give the food a 3. The churros however were probably the best we've had! So yummy! We had never been here before and would go back if someone else asked us to. We wouldn't seek it out. I read a lot of reviews about the service, and our waitress was very nice and did a good job. We did however get the "asked to leave " request I have seen spoken about here in reviews! I didn't believe it totally but yes it happened to us! We were waiting for our churros and we're asked to get up and leave. I was pretty shocked since we weren't parking at the table we had waited quite awhile for both our main dishes and the churros. When we got the churros we did quickly leave. That was sad because it leaves a pretty bad taste in your mouth. When we walked out we noticed there were only 2 people waiting. We were a party of 5 so I have no idea why they needed us gone so badly! There were also other open tables in the restaurant. The waitress waited on 2 other tables that had arrived after us making it almost 20 minutes after we arrived before she came. We ate through all of the chips before hand while waiting. I was wanting to order a few things, but was told they didn't have it which is sad because I had come for this menu item. My food was delivered to another table and then taken back when the other customer realized it wasn't what they ordered. We had to reorder my meal because no one realized my food had never arrived. I really hope it was a new order because the waitress said it was back in the kitchen and they were confused as to who it belonged to. The prices on the menu do not match what you are charged and a soda is $5.10. That is the most I have ever paid for a Coke. They also don't give you any other option for tips other then 18% or higher, I normally tip high. But this was not one of those times. This was such a bad experience I won't be back. read more

Though it has a been a few weeks from eating at Maria Bonita and writing this review, I can still recall the endless bowls of chips and dips and our sweet waitress that made me feel like I was at my Grandma's dining room the whole time. At first I thought it was a little funny how she always called us by "princess" or "champion" but honestly, I loved it! I would come back just because I know she would make my day better. Now with the food, there is so much to choose from and the proportions were very generous. I was trying to be healthy so I went with the carne asada. It came with rice and refried beans, sides of cheese and cactus, tortillas, and more grilled veggies. I thought the peanut sauce that came with the carne was plain. The beans were also a little plain. The carne was delicious though and I enjoyed the rest of the sides that came with it (even though the cactus was on the greasy side). My husband and friend grabbed the chimichangas and they raved to me about how delicious it was. For desert we spared some room for flan. It was pretty good but I don't think it's worth $6. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant and food. I would definitely come again, maybe to share a plate. read more

They were really busy but didn't find ourselves waiting long. We went at 530 and it was packed.I got the fajitas and it was delicious.husband got tacos which were also delicious. My friend got taquitos it was good , a little dry. Small tables but you figure out a way to Tetris the food on. Kinda added to the experience. As well as the ambiance. Note though they pack you in so walking space between the tables where we were was limited. But we were only in one section. Since there's so many people you will find yourself needing to speak up. Heard a lot of good about Maria Bonita's. First time and last time on Saturday 8/4/18. The restaurant was busy and we waited for over 55 minutes to be seated. They seated us, (2) couples, and gave us chips and salsa. We ordered and waited so long that we asked if we could have more chips and salsa. The waitress told us not unless we purchased the chips. We declined. Maria showed up shortly thereafter and had the waitress bring us chips. They finally delivered (2) dinners to our table. Two of us started eating. About 10 minutes later they brought another plate. About 15 minutes after that we complained to the waitress we had not received the last meal. Maria came over again very apologetic, she did not say much but you could tell by her actions and demeanor she was embarrassed and frustrated. The meal was finally delivered. The food was cold and the plate was hot. We told the waiter and they took the food. Later Jose the manager (stated loosely) came without the plate told us the food was 115 degrees. This aggravated us even further. My wife and I told him that we had tasted the food and it was room temperature at best. The plate was hot and the food was cold. I explained arguing with us over how hot the food was not a good way to diffuse the situation. By this time our dining experience was over. We had not finished our meals and my wife had not been served again. Jose asked what he could do to make it right. My wife told him she was not paying for her meal (which she only tasted twice and my one taste) and that she felt he should not charge me for mine. Jose took offense to this and argued. By this time my wife was frustrated, we had been at this restaurant for about 2 hours. She told him she would not pay for either meal. Jose said he would then call the Police. So hid did. While we waited for the police the couple we were with tried to pay their bill. The credit card was never returned. I got up and went to Jose and told him if he was holding the card hostage he had better return it or there would be a scene. The card was soon returned and we waited there a long time for the Police. When they came the Policeman informed us we would have to pay. This we did and left. As we walked out into the parking lot the Police officer instructed us that we were "No trespassed and banned from ever returning to the restaurant again". The Police officer then turned to the other couple, who had barely been involved, and told them they were also banned from the restaurant. We did not create a big scene in the restaurant although many people knew there was a problem because the Police were there. I felt somewhat sympathetic for Maria who had tried to diffuse the situation as well as for many of the employees that would not even look our way after Jose took over the situation. Needless to say we will never be "eating or trespassing" at Maria Bonita's restaurant in the future!! read more

I've had bad service in other places but I created an account to post this. Maria Bonita in Orem has the worst service on the planet. Had to wait 25 minutes which was fine, but then they started taking orders from others who were seated after us (the two groups they did this with were Hispanic, just for notation). We then had to flag down someone to take our order. After that she never came back until we complained because she happened to be the manager. Then they forgot some of our food, brought me the wrong drink and basically ignored us otherwise. The manager said she couldn't help us in any way so we just paid and left. She said they were busy. That's no excuse for terrible service. After she walked away it got worse. She started talking to the workers and laughing! Right out in the open. Just because I only know a little Spanish doesn't mean I don't get the gist of it. Horrible, pathetic service. The food was ok but I would rather eat at Betos. read more

Best food in Utah County, other than my wife's cooking and possibly my mom's. WOW!! I hesitate to say this because I don't want it to get any more crowded than it already is!! But so worth it! The mocajeta is a bowl of awesomeness that would feed at least 4 hungry bandidos.... I was able to throw down about 1/2 of it and in a rare move for me, took the rest home. 2 weeks ago my daughter got horrific food poisoning a few hours after eating tacos at Maria Bonita. I thought it was a fluke, so today we ordered their tacos again and my daughter found a huge, black, chunk of something revolting and unidentifiable in her taco. There is no doubt in my mind now how she got food poisoning. We told the owner about the issue and he refused to refund our money for the inedible tacos. I went here with a work party. Got the lobster tacos with fries. The lobster had an odd flavor and was rubbery. I took a bit out of my second taco and got a mouth full of the spicy sauce they put on the tacos, instant appetite killer. They drowned the tacos in it! I never got my fries either. My husband, my son, and myself went here to get some takeout. The staff was awesome. They set us up outside with menus and offered my son some water. While we were deciding on what to order, they brought us all waters, and chips and salsa. The salsa was SO delicious and the staff SO nice we decided to just eat there. I have to say that this was the best experience we have had eating out in about 20 years. The staff was totally on top of it, and the food was the best EVER. Seriously you guys like homemade tortillas, fresh beans and rice, the WORKS....as well as an honest recommendation of what to get that did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this place. I could not believe the price of our meal too, we have paid much more at some shitty drive through and gotten a quarter of the service and quality than we had here.
