Now that El Gaillo Giro and Mauri's have closed, this has become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Utah County. Maria Bonita's chile verde and carne asada and milanesa are very good. The molcajete is to die for. El Azteca makes a better Chile Relleno, but most other things are better here, IMO. All portions are bigger than I can finish. The service could use some work: it seems like they get their half-hearted kids or neighbors to serve, and they are lacking eye contact, confidence, and smiles, and they have twenty minutes until their shift is over. Came here for dinner last night with some friends, they've been several times but it was my first time + I had heard such good things I was excited. The food was honestly just okay but the worst part was the customer service. My friends warned me they usually rush you and drop hints to get you to leave as soon as you're finished because they want to get other people in but they all agreed this time was the worst it had been. Our waitress came to our table right after we paid and got our food boxed up (we were planning to stay and catch up at the table a bit longer, we had just finished) and told us "let's go, other people are waiting for the table" while pointing at people outside. We tried to just ignore it at first since we weren't ready to leave but she kept saying it over and over until we felt so awkward and finally stood up to leave. Food is great but service is horrible. They do not bring you utensils. We waited for 20 minutes for a table and when a group walked in that was Hispanic they got our table and so we just left. Been here many times and it's always the same discrimination. The mother is the only one in the place with a smile...its like they all hate their jobs! This rating is only for their crowd control and the service that is affected by it. The food is delicious and the people are great. The problem is they can't control their own popularity and it's making the service and the whole experience suffer. My husband and I went in on a Saturday night at about 6:15 and we were told the wait would be an hour. So we left and went shopping and came back at the hour mark. We waited inside with barely any room to move and watched as several people chewed out the hostess because of their extremely long wait time. After an hour and 45 minutes we were finally seated. We ordered our food and then waited an additional 45 mins to see our food. My husband got his full meal, but mine didn't come. We waited. And waited. We asked and waited some more. My husband's food got cold, and then, they brought us the check. We got visibly upset and a manager (I think) came to reassure us we could have as much time at our table as we wanted--no hurry. Seriously? That's not the issue bud. I started packing up to go and they FINALLY brought out my meal. It was so piping hot I couldn't eat it and we took everything to go. The manager shouted a cheery but insincere apology as we left. The feeling was that they don't really care about you because they have plenty of patrons. Any professional restaurant would have taken the time to have the manager sincerely apologize in a conversation with you and would then take the meal off your bill. The food is great, but the whole experience is miserable, and there are plenty of places with great food and a much better experience. Maria Bonita, you need to take care of your patrons and do a better job controlling your timing and crowds or people will leave. Start taking reservations. Simple. And maybe get a portable outdoor vestibule that's heated so people don't have to wait in their cars running their engines. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley. You can't go wrong! Between the waitress hugging everyone to enthusiastically welcome us to the great food we love coming here. The portions are large. Salsa and chips are great and if you're feeling a little wild try the virgin pina colada :) Great place ran by honest great people. Cockroach crawled up the wall next to my wife and I, while we were eating. It fell in her water and crawled out, into the salt shaker. My wife took it to someone in the kitchen area nearby to try and kill it. Nobody helped us, or apologized. A gentleman came abd brought our bill. Asked if we were done eating, we told him about the cockroach, but he didn't care, just took plates. No offer to lower bill, because we didn't eat all our food, so we paid, and left. We eat somewhere else, since we were still hungry. It was also very loud, hard go have a conversation with my wife. read more

I travel out to Utah every once in awhile for work and set out on a mission each night there to find the best food in my area. I could not believe how excellent the food was. Usually I love Maria Bonita. Today Maria wasn't so bonita. Neither is my toilet. My Dad and I went and enjoyed a beautiful day, probably our last before the winter, on the golf course. Afterwards, as per usual, we decided to go pick up some Maria Bonita Carne Asada burritos, chips and salsa and rice, all while listening to a mixture of Elton John and Ed Sheeran. Well let me tell you what, my Dad has pooped more times then he pees in a single round of golf. (Poor old man needs to get his prostate checked.) I have also taken a ride on the porcelain pony about 15 times since last night when I ate my Carne Asada burrito. It's a shame - a damn shame! One day about 2 years ago my mother in law invited us out to eat at a little hole in the wall restaurant a few miles from our house. When i got there my first 1st impression was cheap and low quality... we could not have been more wrong. Maria herself came out gave use each huge hugs and called us her champions and princesses. She makes you feel like family and is always there to make sure you get everything you need. The prices were ok, or so we thought . When we got our plates there was SO MUCH FOOD!! and it was all great! Within a year they moved into a new updated building and i am sad to say there are more and more people there every time i go. I want it to stay our little secret. I have never been disappointed and neither have any of the people i take there. I received a recommendation from a friend to try this place. The recommendation was based upon my love of Mexican food with my favorite being the Red Iguana in Salt Lake. Boy, was I majorly disappointed. The service was terrible, and the food was flavorless. My poor husband could eat more than 2 bites before he said he would rather save his calories. When it was time to go, we had to find a to go box for my daughters meal, and our check because we didn't have a server. The hostess took our order and a food runner gave us our meals each Being about 10 mins between each delivery. I was sorry I made the 25 mile trip. Mortal words simply do not do this restaurant justice. The staff is incredible. They go out of their way to make you feel like a million pesos. There is a delectable ambiance that permeates every aspect of the dining area. The food itself, while delicious, manages to transcend the five senses and will take you to a place that is hard for man to describe. Some call it heaven, others nirvana, but whatever you call this hallowed place, that is where you will arrive. My favorite Mexican place in the Provo/Orem area. Their menu seems endless, which can be a little overwhelming, but everything I've tried there has been delicious. Probably my favorite main course so far is Enchiladas de Mole. The service is great too. I love it when this beautiful lady comes to our table to greet all women with a hug and a "Princesa hermosa" to make you feel special. The food was good but the service was rude. I was there with friends from out of town and we met early to avoid the crowds. It took a while for the food to come out which was done since we were catching up. Unfortunately, as soon as they thought we had enough time to eat they started to clear away our food and drinks.
