I've had better authentic Mexican but I do appreciate that Maria Bonita is local. The Birria Taco I had lacked depth even with the dipping consommé but they do give a decent amount of filling so that's a plus. Their margaritas were perfect and strong. I'd go back for those alone! Maria Bonita is always a cool place for some good eats. It's less than 5 min from my home so whenever I'm craving tacos I head here. Service is always good and it has a relaxing environment. Love that there's a parking lot, heading downtown after work can be stressful with traffic and on street parking. I always know when I go here that I'll be seating quickly and have friendly service. They charged us for hot sauce I asked for because their Chicken breast platter that is advertised as spicy, was too bland. Then came 1.99 bill for that tiny sauce they offered. This used to be an ok place but after last visit I will not be going back. My friend ordered chicken verde. No chili pepper beside it which means not spicy. It was so spicy she couldn't eat it. Plus it was supposed to be a leg and a thigh and it came out as a sliced breast. "Chef" rudely says he wouldn't know if the Chillis in the sauce were hot or mild. Well if this was home made sauce he would know that you can get hot or mild Chillis. I ordered chicken and rice. Well it was so dry you needed a glass of water to choke down each bite. Great Tex-Mex restaurant in Hackettstown, NJ! First they take reservations! huge thing for our large family. Second they have a full bar and an extensive drink menu. Third the food was fantastic! Fourth the prices cannot be beat! We have not been able to find a true Tex-Mex restaurant in years that is close and reasonable price wise. Queso app with a cinnamon type of spice in it that ruined it Guac was decent - that's what the 1 star is for Waitress was very inexperienced & had to keep resting her tray on our table to serve us drinks. Was craving Mexican food and decided to give this place a shot. It was worth it! The drinks were strong, the meals were authentic and delicious. The taco was soggy by the time we got it home, but that's to be expected. Our takeout also came with some chips but the salsa was really small and nowhere near enough for the amount of chips given. What we did say is once this place is back open for people to dine in, we are going! The enchiladas verde was good, packed with chicken. I wish there was a little spice to the verde sauce but overall it was filling. Fiesta Mexicana is a good starting point for people who don't know what to get or are in the mood for a little bit of everything. The flauta was awesome, soooo much chicken in it. The taco shell was soggy by the time I got home but the meat and fillings were enough to know that it was a good taco regardless. The tinga tostada was really good too with the marinated shredded chicken. Really flavorful. I would definitely get this again. Decided to give the takeout margarita a shot as well. It's about 12 oz of margarita and it was strong. Which I like. They even put some ice in there and it came with a small straw to drink it right out of the container! I'll never go back to this restaurant again... the outside looks extremely inviting but once you get inside it's just a plain restaurant with a bar... the food is barely ok to eat... thank goodness for that... We Pulled into the parking and it was full we almost pulled out to go somewhere else but thinking with a packed parking lot it must be worth the wait... it was not packed inside so mostly employee cars I'm thinking. I wish i went and got gas station sushi instead. Walked inside and was seated within a few minutes by a friendly host. That's when it all took a turn for the worse. The guac was a good size but incredibly bland. The salsa with chips was a joke and was some tasteless watery tomato paste perhaps 2 teaspoons full. The fresh fried chips were 100% stale from a bag. The rice was so dry that fajitas came covered in almost raw onions not a single one even had a smidge of browning on it the dish was impossible to eat without something requested sour cream and was charged $1 for a tiny plastic cup with a ketchup packs worth or sour cream and it took over 10 minutes to get after the second request of physically going to find her and remind her. The waitress was terrible, and a bad situation made worse by sitting next to her family. We were ignored and super slow service after waiting for the check she came to put it down but her mom called her attention she held her hand on the check on our table while talking to her mom eventually slid it with out a word or eye contact and finished tending to her mom. After another almost 5 minutes and 2 trips of her taking dishes ignoring the card on the receipt I inquired if we were supposed to pay up front and only then did she take the check. Save your money this is an over hyped dumpster fire that is a complete insult to Mexican food and I didn't even touch on the dozens of flies or disgusting walls next to the booth covered in food smudges from likely weeks prior. I would sooner dine at a Taco Bell in Camden before returning here. read more

Fiesta Mexicana is a sampler platter = An assorted array of how bad they do everything. 3 entrees = 3 strike outs. I could go on, but you should have gotten the point by now. This is place is an insult to wonderful Mexican cuisine and anyone who that gives this place more than 1 star has never had real Mexican food. Go elsewhere. read more

We went for a late-lunch mid-week. It was our first time. The restaurant was not busy at that time. The service was excellent and they took care of us throughout the meal. The food was excellent. We had chicken burritos and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. We enjoyed each bite. If you like hot and spicy, ask for the habanero sauce. It was hot and enhanced the burritos well. This place just opened up, and whenever I pass, there's never any cars. So, I was a bit skeptical going, but I was so pleased with going. I went during happy hour which is $6 margs, and I got a blueberry one. Be warned, they are strong, but I like to taste the alcohol in my drinks. The chips and salsa was great, but if you don't like spicy, I'd say to stay away from trying it. It has a kick! I had the chicken burrito, and it was delicious. It came with guacamole, and I need to come back for the nachos with it. It was delicious. I don't know why everyone is complaining about the prices, the prices aren't bad. I am am amazed this place is as busy as it is. The food is subpar to any Mexican restaurant including taco bell. They serve salsa in the tiniest thimble like container. It's not even salsa - its basically some sort of tomato puree. The chips- which are supposed to be house fried - are flavorless and essentially stale.
