Also, shrimp patties are supposed to have shrimp inside, don't skimp on the shrimp because you all are not skimping on the price. Disgusting patties, all I could taste was the flour. Saw the reviews, decided to try this place. Awesome! I had the Loco Moco, my wife had the short ribs. Both dishes had flavor we've never experienced, but absolutely loved. The owners are super helpful and friendly, and the prices can't be beat. I can't wait to come back and try the breakfast. Visited some family in Florida and on the way back up north passed through and decided to try Mariana's Grinds! As a native Chamorro who grew up on Guam it was like being back on island at a village fiesta. Nothing beats the tastes of home! We had most of the appetizers(lumpia, empanadas, shrimp patties) and island food staples like Kadon Pika, Bbq short ribs, and even Spam! Everything tasted great! I will say that if you are not used to spicy food be careful with the empanadas and finadene' as there are peppers in each. The restaurant owners let us know that they had just opened in this location in October and I have to say I absolutely love all the little touches done to the restaurant. Nice little restaurant. Uniquely excellent food, great service, and pleasant atmosphere. Brought my family in for dinner one night after looking for someplace different on yelp. The menu here is truly different, but everyone loved their food. My daughter had the deep fried tacos, my son had some kind of loaded French fries, I had the tegas burger, and my wife had a chicken dish, it was all very flavorful and yummy. There wasn't a spot of dirt or debri on the tables when we sat down. The staff were friendly and helpful- especially since my family has certain food restrictions. Pancit portion was kind of small, but good. Side of chicken in a stick had great flavor. Lumpia was a little greasy, but good. Lots of interesting options. There was little boards on the counter with desert options and what I assumed was specials, but no pricing. The chef came out and offered to make the kids chicken strips. Very friendly. My only complaints are: 1-kids meals aren't listed, you have to ask. A mini corndog meal and fries is $8.25, probably the most expensive kids meal I've seen. 2-the food came out staggered, we had to ask for our lumpia and empanadas after we were done eating rice. 3-no changing table. Love love love this place! The staff/family there is so attentive and polite. They actually converse with you and try to get to know their customers. Their food is the best! Spam masubi is a must! Spam egg and rice. The sweet soy is a must with the masubi. I would say I could have the Spam a little more crispy than it comes but it's still awesome! I always get the chicken bbq. It comes with rice, side, and the chicken, of course. The chicken is freshly grilled to order, moist, and so flavorful. It's a mix of sweet and savory. Like a sweet teriyaki but more thinner. Their macaroni salad that come with it has chicken mixed in. The wife loves it. They have different types of fried rice, their egg fried rice is great, spam fried rice is good! I went here for lunch before going back to work to do OT and wasnt disappointed. I got the Kahlua Pork special which was a bit pricey at 15.99 but was delicious. It came with an amazing pasta salad and red rice which was ok. I also tried the Shrimp Patties (just ok, too much batter, not enough shrimp) and Lumpia. They came with a sweet sauce and a creamy spicy sauce for the Shrimp patties that I ended up pouring on my rice. Overall, I'll definitely be back to try some more items. read more

Ate here today and I'm very satisfied with my experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted. It's family owned so that's a plus. The scenery was nice and relaxing and the menu wasn't too overwhelming. The owner actually explained the menu to us which was quite helpful, Me and my husband ordered empanadas, lumpias, spam musubi and the the spam burger which was very delicious and we ended our meal out with the donuts and ice cream ( which is a simple way of me naming it) it was reffered to us by one of the daughters of the owner. Great food and great service. Very authentic. Wonderful family owned place. The place was very clean and we'll run. It was neat to see the multiple generations of family working together and enjoying each other's company. We tried the shrimp fritters and the empanadas for appetizers. I liked them but I don't think the rest of the family was in the mood for fried food so I ended up eating most of it. The short ribs and the steak plates were both outstanding. Wife had the ramen bowl with chicken and loved it. They are hosting an old fashioned pig roast on mother's day if you are interested. Wish we could make it. One of the best kept secrets in Jax. A friend had mentioned this restaurant a few weeks ago, and since I was in the area, I stopped to grab a bite. Well, MORE than a bite, since I ended up sampling a variety of their dishes. Marianas is tucked inside the Winn-Dixie plaza, but once you enter, it's amazingly quaint and you instantly feel welcomed by the staff. The owners, a brother and sister pair, are hospitable and incredibly friendly. I love how they greet everyone so cheerfully and, if it's your first time there, take the time to explain the different food in their menu. I ordered a smorgasbord of things off their menu, since I was feeding my family (in-laws included), so I went with most of the recommendations from one of the owners. Out of everything I've tried, I highly recommend the loco moco (ground beef patty topped with gravy, egg, over a bed of steamed rice) and the Ginisan Katne (stir fry beef with bok choy, egg plant, and onions). They give you options with the sides, so I ordered mine with the fiesta rice (Chamorro red rice) and island style mac salad---both of which are sooooo good. Don't skip ordering these with your meal! I also recommend their traditional Chamorro style empanada, which is incredibly tasty and has a little kick to it. It's big and one is enough to fill you up. Another great thing about Marianas is that they are so quick with the orders. I think I barely waited 15 minutes for an order of 10+ items, and the turnaround was speedy. By the time you sit down to wait and finish your drink, your order's up. They take phone orders too, so if you're driving home from the West side of town, call it in, and it'll be ready for you to pick up when you get there. The only "con" I can think of is that they aren't close enough for me to drive daily, which may be a good thing, and they close at 2pm on the weekdays, but will open up at 5pm. A bummer for me, since I get off work between those two time spreads. However, you've got the weekend, and nights to stop by, and they won't disappoint! One thing to add: they cater! I can't recall the details, but if you talk to the ladies, they'll provide all the info on orders / pick-ups / deliveries. Marianas Grinds is a MUST STOP place if you're ever in town! read more

Let me first announce the disclaimer that I am a bit of a picky eater (my mom cooks incredible food and being from SoCal I've had my share of amazing ethnic foods to compare to). I've also never been to a filipino restaurant before. The customer service is amazing! Very nice people. Lumpia: good, but I've definitely had better. Chomorro empanada: not really a fan, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Chicken adobo: the sauce is really good, but the chicken is okay. I seemed just like regular chicken in delicious sauce. I guess I was expecting more, but again nothing to compare to. Ginsian katne: our favorite! It was a delicious platter of steak, bok choy, eggplant, and onions with very tasty sweet sauce. Fiesta rice: a little bit plain and under-seasoned for "seasoned" rice. Macaroni salad: delicious variation of the normal, American macaroni salad. read more

I dislike wording it that way but other places don't provide the welcoming feeling that this place does. Right off the bat, you can tell it's a family own and family ran establishment. Also tried the empanadas, again both the beef and the chicken and both were excellent. I ordered the Loco Moco as an entree and it was delicious. My girlfriend ordered a Island Ramen they had on special and it was top of the line. This place was truly family owned and they were adorable. A young girl, and who I believe to be her father and grandparents were all super nice and helpful. They were very kind and made us feel very welcome and at home. Hubby and I had the pleasure of dining here last night. I'm a lumpia and Pancit eating fool, and the opening of this place makes me a happy girl. I of course, had to have a couple of lumpia for my appetizer which was awesome, then moved on to the beef spare ribs with pancit and island macaroni salad. My dessert was a vanilla cake with custard on top. I can't remember what it was called, but it was tasty. Good stuff all around. Hubby had the Teriyaki chicken which was also delish, but he had a little too much heat added, thinking a 3 on a 1-5 scale would be ok, even after our server told us in a very diplomatic way that whitey's can't hang and she would recommend a 1 or 2 at most. A little tip for Americans who THINK they like their food hot because they use Tobasco or Louisiana hot sauce, etc... -- don't start at level 3 and think it will be mild. You will burn your mouth up. Islanders use VERY hot peppers that put habañeros to shame. Think ghost pepper hot. Hubby started going to town on his meal thinking the pepper slices were carrots. A couple of bites in, he regretted going for that 3. I found it hilarious. He was very thankful that they have desserts with ice cream(banana lumpia with ice cream), that relieved the hot mouth, and packed the remaining dinner in a to go container making sure the hot pepper slices didn't make it to the box. He reheated it for breakfast this morning and loved it, minus the extra heat. :-) They keep it basic - disposable plates and utensils, but they also keep the prices super reasonable. I don't know ANYWHERE you can get beef spare ribs for $8.99 We had a few beers, appetizers, dinner and 2 desserts and the total tab was just over $40. We discovered this restaurant through Yelp and took a chance on something different. We were not disappointed. The staff was very attentive, and our waitress took time to explain the items we didn't understand. We had the shrimp puffs as an appetizer, and they were excellent. We also had the Moco Loco for our entrees, and both were customized to our liking. It's easy to overlook the restaurant where it is located, but we eventually found it (next to Winn Dixie). Loco Moco!! Ever since going to Maui in 2016 we're obsessed with loco moco. We make it at home a lot, and while it isn't hard, it was great getting some authentic.
