This place is awesome. Super authentic and good people and dancing. If you're a gringo you will be the only gringo there.

OK. I only come up to the Monterey/Salinas area once in a while for work with the DoD (at the old…read moreFort Ord hospital building which now houses some DoD folks). This is my hangout when I'm up here... This time, well, let me tell ya... Jennifer at the bar was amazing. Not only can she tend bar, but she has a beautiful voice! The mic in one hand and your drink in the other! She'll sing and tend bar at the same time! Rich, the KJ (that's Karaoke Jockey for your former jocks out there... damn, I'm still doing your homework!) runs a GREAT show... We were coming to the end of the night, a few folks no-showed on their place to sing, so he brings me two mics... He knows I want to sing "Shallow" with Jen and she's good with it. And damn if we don't close the bar that night! I dropped Jen a 100% tip for her great work. If you're in Salinas, CA on Thursday or Friday nite believe me - as one who has a pro voice coach - the talent there is spectacular... (Cora... You are amazing!) Great karaoke. Great dive bar scene. Great bar tending... Just a great place to hang out!

I'm extremely disappointed with how we were treated. We've been regular customers, and this…read moreexperience completely changed how we view this place. Someone in our group took a photo behind the bar, and instead of handling the situation professionally, the bartender immediately became rude and escalated things. We were asked to leave, which is one thing--but what made the situation worse was that my card was still swiped and we were never served any drinks. After that, the bartender continued talking about us and involved another bartender, which turned into an unnecessary scene and got us kicked out. The interaction felt disrespectful, targeted, and completely unprofessional. If there was an issue with taking a picture, that could have been communicated respectfully instead of creating a hostile situation. As regulars, we expected better treatment and better customer service.

A couple of friends and me took the opportunity to stop by on our drive back to LA from the Bay Area (along the 101). First impression: one of those convivial breweries with a thriving locals aspect and vibe. Friends I was with are really into craft beer, so we felt right at home. The folks here were super friendly and welcoming. As a matter of fact, there were some cookies made from another regular that was offered to us while we were there. And those cookies were delish. They have a good variety of styles on draft, but I opted for the BA Barleywine, which was excellent. They also had the football games playing on the TV there so there was that sports bar aspect without being to crowded/ crazy. This place is located in an industrial area of Salinas. We didn't have a problem at all finding parking. Love their beers and love this spot. I would definitely hit it up more if I was able.

Growers has a good setup--the bar is very lively and full, but it's not the first thing you see when you walk in, as it's off to the side. We had a nice booth, complete with real flower in a glass, and were served promptly by a pleasant lady. She helped me choose my entree, and was attentive and accommodating throughout our meal. I had the chicken Marsala, which is the best I've ever had (and I often order it in restaurants.). My husband had the bone-in pork chop. We had crème brûlée for dessert. Everything was tasty and very well prepared. The restaurant has a very pleasant feel, with lots of dark wood and nice furniture. If I lived nearby I'd come often.

Server was attentive. Full bar serving wine, beer, and cocktails. Located in old town Salinas -- I was told this spot is one of Salinas' oldest establishments occupying the same building from when it was founded in 1940. Hope they make it to 100 years! Also, my friend said this spot is known for their prime rib. I'll have to make it in one day to try for myself.
