Only been there a couple times to grab a bagel sandwich to go, but have found Maria's to be a decent establishment. Service has been fairly quick and my food was made exactly the way I asked. Honestly if I could, my rating would be 4.5 stars. Don't get me wrong that while their bagels ARE good, they are not best I've ever had. Outstanding flavor and service. These bagels are made from scratch by the owner, Dustin, right in front of you and they couldn't be more tasty. The shop has inside seating, sells Disc Golf discs on the side, and has convenient street parking right out front. Not only are their bagels gross they are rude. We went in to buy bagels and the guy was clearly angry about something. I asked if he had a certain kind of bagel and he relied "look at the list." Referring to a list of bagels they have left. I selected one from the list and he said "Do you want one" is a rude and snarky way. I had a very terrible interaction at this place. I came in to get coffee and use the bathroom. I had my tiny four pound dog in my purse. The guy at the counter (who identified himself as the owner) said that I couldn't bring the dog in because of health code but indicated that if I was taking it to go, it would be better: When I said I was taking it to go, he seemed to be ok and started to ring up my coffee. I asked if I could use the bathroom which honestly was the reason I was buying the coffee anyway.. to be a paying customer and use the bathroom: then he started to rant about how I was "asking him to break the law" "and some other stuff related to that. At this point I think "wow that escalated quickly" and I giggle nervously and say "I could just leave." I mean what was he trying to get me to do? I can't chuck the dog out the door so he can let me buy the coffee and possibly use the bathroom or I can leave. Now he says he thinks I'm "laughing at him" and starts getting even more agitated. I try to explain I'm not laughing at him. I'm honestly laughing because I laugh at all awkward situations. He then demands that I leave and it sounds like he throws something onto the counter aggressively. So I leave. A bit of an overreaction no? Let me suggest a response that might have been a little more appropriate. Him: "Oh, we don't allow dogs, sorry. If you can leave your dog outside or in your car, I'd be happy to serve you." Honestly the best bagel place I've been to. Gates to hell cream cheese is a must have if you like spicy foods. I didn't really even like bagels before going to this place but my whole outlook on bagels has now been changed. Traveling through Barre, VT and looking for a sandwich to go. Found Maria's Bagels on Yelp. Cozy interior. Very pleasant young'uns running the counter. Interesting choice of beverages. We got the Three Pigs sandwich: bagel of your choice with two fried eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese. Served up by a pleasant little guy who brought them out from the kitchen, most definitely with pride in his creation. He handed them to us with a big smile. We ate them in the car on our travels. I tried to leave a review on Facebook, but funny it didn't show up. We were there last weekend and I will never go back. We would go occasionally to grab bagel sandwiches, mostly because bagel options are limited in this area, not that the food here was great. This was the third time we had been in and witnessed the owner being obnoxious to the employees. One time he was yelling at them so loud in the kitchen we heard out at a table. Last weekend a kid working with him behind the counter dropped a bagel, the owner berated the poor kid in front of everyone saying 'smarten up' and 'why do I have to keep telling you guys ..' I was SO uncomfortable and felt so bad for the kid working. We won't go back and spend money to support a business run like this. Unbelievable! read more

The bagels are good. You might however be taking a gamble when you get a toasted bagel. We ordered the Taylor Pork Roll and 3 Pigs on onion bagels and the bagels were charred black on the tops. Our fingers and mouths looked like that of a coal miner's after we were done eating. I am guessing that this is a recurring issue since I observed one customer alerting the staff of a small greasefire, and the staff quickly said "Your bagel isn't burnt" as they handed over the sandwich. I Have been watching this place going downhill for sometime now. The product and service. Owner has all the excuses Covid, short staff, etc I get part of it but doing the same things over and over the same way is not the answer. Have seen him being aggressive towards people who don't agree with him. You can't call ahead no phone orders they say. We went to Maria's bagel for a quick breakfast before starting our day. Having lived in New York, I am always looking for excellent breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and coffee. To our surprise, Maria's bagel exceeded our expectation in all aspects. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a sun dried tomato and basil bagel. Different from other bagel shops, their ingredients were kneaded into the dough, resulting in a subtle yet fragrance flavor. My boyfriend ordered a smoked salmon and chive cream cheese bagel. The toppings in the sandwich included capers and red onions, which were excellent. The final surprise was the quality of the ice coffee, made with coffee ice cubes to avoid dilution!! Makes great pulled pork and Mac and cheese! Together they are amazing as well and always freshly made same as soups! I've never had the coffee because I can't drink coffee anymore, but have heard it is delicious! They have all different kind of drinks too! I highly recommend Maria's! The owner is a very nice man and very good to the community! The women that works for him does a great job with taking orders, giving whoever is cooking, which I think is the owner right now, what they need, get the orders filled and to who they belong to and of course ringing up. Walked in and ordered a toasted plain bagel with veggie cream cheese. Well the guy turns around and says "sorry we are out of plain" ok fine I'll take a whole wheat then.
