Turkey croquettes and cranberry sauce (special)
    Elizabeth E.

We absolutely loved this place. It is a 100+ year old diner according to our server. I had the turkey croquettes that were on special and they were delightful. Tender, moist with savory onions and celery inside, they tasted like "more." I got them with a side of cranberry sauce and it made it taste like Thanksgiving. My hubby got the clam strips. They were good and crispy, but nothing special.

These people are in the business. Waitstaff pleasant and efficient. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking outside because there are lots of tables inside. You are in Vermont, so blueberry pancakes are appropriate. Maple syrup is fabulous. Corned beef hash with one scrambled and rye toast and you are set. Bottomless coffee and the waitress checks often, but silently. Good prices, good variety, good quality food. This place is famous because it's great. Trust me. Recommended.

What a happening place! We met a friend here for lunch and the parking lot was packed! That says a lot about the food here. You stand in line for seating which moves pretty fast. Counter seating is no waiting by the way. Once seated, our waitress came right over to get our beverage order and then came back for our meal order. Two Parker House rolls came with my salad ahead of the salad. They were warm and served with plenty of room temp packets of butter. Yummy! My salad was very fresh and just what I wanted. The balsamic dressing came in the small to go containers and was very tasty. Hubby really enjoyed his lobster salad roll which was served in the traditional toasted roll. The bathroom is clean and there is plenty of parking. I wish that I had time for dessert because it all sounds good. Next time! Congratulations to this fine restaurant for all of the years of serving the community.

Our group visited this restaurant on a weekday morning around 10:30 and were able to get a table right away. Since it was too early for me to eat, I got a chicken salad sandwich ($5.95). It was lightly seasoned, which was great because most food in restaurants are too salty for me. While mixed with celery, which I don't like, I didn't actually bite into any, so mostly pure chicken breast meat. It possibly could have used a little more mayo, but that's extra calories anyway. My husband ordered the Norwich Hockey Hat Trick and chose 1 pancake, 2 eggs, and 3 sausage links for $8.50. Our server was very down to earth and made breakfast much more enjoyable even though she was very busy running around making sure her customers were taken care of. We were just passing through, but if I ever returned to the area, I'd come again to try the pies and ice creams... which says a lot because I'm not a dessert person. We appreciate the service, food, and very reasonable prices!

We stopped by the Wayside Restaurant after a recommendation. It's in its 106th year of business! Our waitress was excellent and very friendly! The food was good and the place was clean.

We enjoyed the mussels gauzzetto and calamari fritti. The Mediterranean chicken was well prepared and tasty. The pasta special was spinach feta almond slices in a light tomato sauce and I substituted penne for fettucine - I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The margherita pizza was good. We suspect you need reservations for prime dining hours on a weekend. The decor feels a little dated but the food is great. We can forgive the $2 for a quarter loaf of bread because it's only a few dollars and the bread was fresh and served with garlic oil, not like overpriced $10-$12 Parker House Rolls, but it's not a good trend to charge for bread. Service was good until we wanted to pay our bill - that took a little bit. We'll happily return.

There was ample seating at the bar and as a single I sat down and the bartender was nice and cheerful. She helped me through the menu and I ended up with the fruits of the sea.. in an alfredo sauce. The scallops and shrimps were delicious. The noodles were great and the sauce, although a bit thick was very tasty. The only thing I wish I did different was I ordered the lemon cheesecake.. it was very cold so it'd been stored in the fridge as a slice and it didn't seem to be the freshest but it was okay. The atmosphere is wonderful. The location is great. The service is wonderful. I will be back. I'll just order something different. Dessert.

Despite the packed house, servers were friendly and reasonably attentive, and while the food came out slow, that's to be expected. I wouldn't say it was unreasonable at all considering the volume, AND they were churning out a ton of to-go orders. No televisions in here, which I loved, and a great vibe. Tons of people just having a great time. Great non-alcoholic drink menu. About to celebrate three years of sobriety, and I truly appreciate that. The food was good-great, depending. My wife got a salad with pulled pork and I got the brisket. Both were just "fine" and the meats desperately needed sauce. The brisket was pretty dry, which was disappointing. We also split a side of the smoked mushrooms, which we thought were good, and the pasta salad, which was unfortunately quite bland and not very noteworthy at all despite using pasta from the acclaimed Gallus. Now here's the sleeper: the dry rub wings were incredible. Some of the best I've ever had! Don't miss out on these just because they're on the appetizer menú. If I came back I'd just get a double order of these bad boys. Sweet and smoky and cooked to perfection. Absolute 10/10.

This trip, we enjoyed a milkshake, Skinny Fries (they were out of poutine), Noah's Ark, and Breakfast Monster. The house bbq sauce was chosen to accompany the fries: not my favorite bbq sauce; the fries were crispy and well salted. I hope to try the poutine on another visit. Noah's Ark was a nice blend of sweet and savory. The sausage was ok, but probably would try another meat choice next time. For pesto lovers, the Monster will really scratch that itch! I haven't been to a Skinny Pancake since I received the devastating no-more-gluten-for-me news, so I was glad to see that they have a buckwheat crepe option for us gluten-free dweebs. I ordered the apple & brie crepe. I was informed that the hash purples go into a shared fryer, so they're not totally gluten-free. I accepted my future stomachache & ordered them anyways, because they've always been my favorite item on the menu. Service was friendly & prompt. Find a table, order at the counter, & they'll bring your food to you. The hash purples were totally delightful, as expected. 5 star color, too. The crepe was unfortunately very underwhelming. It was super thick & the texture was kinda ominous. I didn't end up finishing it. They might just need to tweak their gluten-free batter slightly to get the balance right. I believe in them (: Overall a fun lunch spot in the marvelous capital of Vermont.
