I would ask anyone who's ever eaten somewhere before and had poor service to answer this. Please keep in mind, I work in a Retail Establishment and they knew this!!! It was delivered here!! -- What did the establishment do to correct this and want to keep you as a Customer? -- What's an appropriate amount of time for 2 subs and chicken wings to be delivered? -- What should be done when your sub is made incorrectly? Well, it took 45 minutes for the first delivery. (We are 2.2 miles from their location). I called immediately after I noticed their error. Their response, "we will bring you the correct one." At first glance, fabulous service. Then, it starts...I receive a phone call a few minutes later. Simply Subs: "Hi, we're going to need the other sub back." My response, "okay." 45 MINUTES!!!!! later, the delivery driver shows up. He was very courteous and apologized. Now, he didn't make the sub, nor is he the Manager. I gave the Driver the incorrect sub and asked if he brought me a refund. His response, "they didn't give me any money for that." I call the Store and speak to the Manager. I asked about a refund since my 30 minute lunch was over forever ago. His response, "well, I can't refund you and be out the 2 subs." "We replaced it, that should be good enough." So...think about that for a moment. If I've ever been somewhere and it was wrong, it was replaced and I was credited as an apology. The REPLACEMENT is not the apology. I will never eat there again. And I will tell everyone about the poor service. As I mentioned, I work in retail. If I had a Customer unhappy, I would do everything I could to correct it and ensure they left happy. read more

I never reviewed this place in the last three years of coming here and previously it would have been four stars. Now, thanks to a rapid and severe decline in service, I'm giving it two. The food is fine - well above average subs and pizza that is good if you ask for it well done. The pizza has a thick doughy crust, and they don't skimp on toppings so it is a hearty pie. Service however, has just gotten abysmal. If you call for take out, add at least twenty minutes for it to be ready. God forbid if you hit them when they are busy - they literally can't handle themselves and that turns into an additional 40 minutes. The last time I went (which at this point is about two months ago based on principle), I was told 30 minutes for our order to be ready, and I showed up 35 minutes later. They hadn't even STARTED my order, saying that they were busy with a big order. They either should have added more time if that order was already in, or if it came in after mine, it should have waited. Particularly frustrating is that they always move at the same speed regardless of how busy they are - painfully slow. I've been left standing at the cash register for a good 10 minutes several times when picking up food I've ordered. Completely alone in an almost comically way as they putter along back and forth with no explanation of what I'm waiting for or why. If the service got better, I'd give this place at least three stars, maybe 3.5, but give the current state of affairs, I can't give them more than two stars, and both of those are for food. They get no stars for service at all. read more

Ed, wtf? Simply used to be a local go-to for delicious sandwiches. Then they added pizza--what a coup! As a regular, I used to love my Simply Subs and Pizza. But nowadays... The location is absolutely disgusting. Greasy, falling apart, sloppy, dirty. How these bozos pass a health inspection, I will NEVER know. Employees are rude, crude, unclean, slow, lazy, and sorry--but stupid. They have zero training and no customer service skills. They treat you like a jerk for ordering food from them, and respond to smiles and politeness and TIPS with disdain. Seriously, one of the cashiers sarcastically said, "gee, thanks" and rolled his eyes at me leaving a $5 tip on a $10 order--that took 20 minutes to make and was completed in-store! What special effort went into my experience?!? The food has taken a STEEP nosedive in quality in the last decade, oh my lord. If you were to bring this food to a friend, they would punch you in the face. It's barely edible, and looks/tastes/smells like poison. An anecdote to tie it all together: The last (and I mean LAST) time I went to Simply, there were maybe two people ahead of me. The first woman ordered a single sandwich that took 25 minutes to make. The second person grew frustrated and quietly left. I stupidly stuck to my guns. While waiting for that Picasso behind the counter to finish the half-hour sandwich, a woman stormed into Simply and demanded to speak to a manager. One of the delivery drivers had apparently SPED through a red light and almost hit her child. Was she offered free food? An apology? Anything? Nope. The manager told her "that didn't happen" and the returning delivery driver told her to "go f**k herself." I should've left in solidarity; that is COMPLETELY inexcusable. Then came time to order my food! A steak bomb and some jalapeno poppers, my favorite. The girl behind the counter never once looked me in the eye, asked "what do you want?" and just...stormed off. I tried to remain all smiles and check in on my food as the minutes ticked away...the girl behind the counter was more rude to me each time, even calling me "annoying." 45 MINUTES LATER, I had my (none too cheap) meal, left a tip, and returned home. The coating was completely burnt off my jalapeno poppers and the cheese had exploded off to leave nothing but wrinkled peppers. There was gristle in the steak, and sharp, wood-like particles all throughout my sandwich. After the third stab in the gums, I couldn't enjoy the sandwich. When I brought the remains back to Simply to get my money back, they said there was nothing I could do despite there only being a few small bites taken out of large sandwich--like I had ripped the tag off a sweater and tried to get a refund. I pressed the matter and asked to speak to Ed. He shambled out and told me he REFUSED to do anything for me. REFUSED! He must've REALLY needed my $20 I paid for the "meal." To top it all off, those two to three little bites were enough to give me food poisoning. Ed has given up. He no longer cares about employees or customers. People are getting sick off his food, mistreated and even harassed by his employees, and yet he does nothing. I was a loyal customer for years, but that means nothing to this crack squad of jerks and burnouts. Unless you enjoy being berated and abused for staying loyal to a place that no longer has any loyalty to its clientele, AVOID SIMPLY SUBS AND PIZZA AT ALL COSTS! ZERO STARS!!! Okay don't get me wrong but here the problem with this I order and almost 2 hours later we get the food .. I order steak and cheese well over loaded like filled all the way threw probably 3 cups of raw onions and peppers witch should be cooked for a steak and cheese and the steak is not even steak it was roast beef not the same at all you cook roast beef to much it's nasty witch is what happened.. I have got steak and cheese from many places and never in my life have a seen someone use roast beef.. yeah never again I'll stick with ladder 1 to get my steak and cheese calzone thank you ! read more

I used to be a fan of this shop.. five years ago. I was willing to take the poor service and poor food because of loyalty to the shop but after my order on 6/17 i will NEVER eat here again. Ordered two small pizzas one extra sauce extra cheese, two sets of wings one mild and one hot. and a order of cheese bread sticks with marinara sauce. I got two small pizzas one undercooked and the other no extra anything. two sets of HOT wings and a cheese bread stick order with... ketchup? I've never left a one star review but, in this case, I think it's warranted. I ordered at 6pm and was told it would be a 45 minute wait. After an hour and a half I call to find out what is going on. I'm out on hold and then told they're getting destroyed. My order is researched and they can't find it. When they do, I am told "hmm that's odd...can you hold on?" My card is already charged so I know they've got the order. Someone else gets on and tells me that the ticket was assigned to someone but no one remembers assigning it and it wasn't taken. Basically, after two hours (at this point), my food wasn't done. So I can either wait for them to make the order and send it "right out" or wait "fifteen to twenty days" to have my money refunded. Needless to say, I will never order from here again. Worst customer service I've experienced in this area. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

My favorite place to get sub's. Their large sub's are 18". Huge. They cut it into four prices. I usually eat half and save the other half for the next day. Their toppings are fresh. I love that their lettuce is shredded. My kids love the pizza and my husband loves the wings. So much to choose from on their menu. Their calzones are absolutely fabulous and huge. The inside of this place isn't very good looking at all. But they deliver. read more

First off, the food is great. Definitely a lot for your money. I've been watching the service over the years and I agree with the reviewers that it's been too slow. I've learned that the manager responsible for the horrible service has since left and I've already seen a huge increase in service quality. The owner has stepped back in to bring it back to its former glory. Definitely give this place a shot. I've worked in restaurant management and catering for years and I know quality food. This isn't a place for foodies. Hearty subs, burly pies, big portions. Quality ingredients but not designer-trendy so that prices stay fair. The owner is a native son of the city. He's great. Does a lot of for the community. Can't get enough of that chicken bomb!! read more

I was in Barre around noon today and decided to stop and get what was at one time (years ago) a favorite sandwich. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The sandwich ("Turkey Rachel") was not very good. The bread was only toasted on one side, was very soggy, and not even cut through all the way. There was not much turkey, cheese, or 1,000 Island dressing on it (and I know--this sandwich with sauerkraut is typically called a Turkey Reuben; a Turkey Rachel generally has cole slaw instead of sauerkraut). Granted, it was usually one of their smaller sandwiches, but this was pretty skimpy. It used to be grilled nicely, too. I generally went to the location on the Barre-Montpelier Road (closed now for quite some time), and it's been a long time since I've been to the Barre shop, so maybe it's been this way for a while. The shop seemed like it was in need of a good deep clean and was not well organized. There were no order, pickup, or pay separation lines or spots indicated and people were getting cranky waiting for their food. No one seemed to know where to stand or wait or order. Perhaps setting up a few lines would help keep chaos in check. I'm hoping I just caught them on a bad day. read more

I have been getting delivery from Simply Subs for a few years now and wanted to leave my review. I am very happy with the food, the service when I call, and the delivery service..everyone is always very pleasant and professional. My delivery is always 30-45 minutes which they let me know when I place my order...and it has always been on time. I am a fan for sure..the only reason that I didn't give them five stars is because occasionally the pizza crust has been a bit on the doughy side or too dark on the bottom..if you let them know that they correct it next time. I recommend Simply Subs Pizza to anyone who wants a homemade sub and pizza experience and NOT a chain food run of the mill experience. The BEST pizza & sub shop...in my opinion...in Barre! read more
