We were there on a Friday during Lent and they had a grilled fish special. It was excellent. The place was quite bust. They told us it would be a 30 minute wait, but it was only 10 minutes. "Upscale" is definitely a subjective term, and this restaurant reminded me so. The service was great, as was the skinny margarita I had. But everything else was sub-par. The chicken flautas were so dry, and the Mexican queso tasted like diluted Velveeta. As for the almond salsa - I don't know where that was, other than the few almonds I saw tossed on top. I see what they are trying to do with different Mexican fusions, but unfortunately they just don't land. The one dish that was appetizing was the shrimp enchiladas. I believe it was the sour cream sauce that saved the day. Overall, I would not come here again or recommend the place. This was my second time visiting. Maria's. This experience was much better than the first experience. I would have given 5 stars; however, my service was less than stellar and I feel it is overpriced. The guacamole was amazing. I got the carne asada tacos. 3 tacos were $20. The meat was tender ams perfectly seasoned. I loved the blue corn tortillas. The chips and salsa were great too. I loved the flavor of the rice and black beans that were served w the tacos. My 1st time here and I am 100% impressed! The service was on point. Drinks never went dry and our server made excellent suggestions. The atmosphere is very pleasant, Latin music plays in the background, very clean and comfortable. There were 4 in our party and we spent about $250 with 3 shared starters, 3 alcoholic drinks, 3 main courses, and 2 desserts included. We just moved to Midland from Fort Worth and have had the worst time finding any quality upscale Mexican food that is roughly on par with DFW. We had never been to Odessa before. Oh my goodness this is our new FAVORITE place to eat. We all got different drinks and they were all amazing. We got the queso and guac which were both delicious. We got garlic steak fajitas and the meat melted in our mouths. 5 star service as well. Beautiful restaurant. We will be back. And soon. read more

I had such a great experience at Maria's Mexican Kitchen tonight! Our server, Dávid, was absolutely amazing! He is super friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed the entire time. He gave great recommendations and really made our meal enjoyable. I had the Queso Compuesto, Princesa, and the Flan Clásico. I also absolutely love Shrimp Ceviche, Crispy Cancun Chicken Salad, and the Cinco Leches cake. service was very good, restaurant was clean. The food was not good. I had the seafood enchiladas and they must have left out the seafood. Sauces were very bland. my wife had the three chicken enchiladas. one of the enchiladas has mole sauce and it was terrible- not edible! The other two were just so-so. The chips and salsa were ok, but there was no heat (peppers) in either of the salsas. Their cinco leches cake was very good. The price of these meal were about $24.00 per plate which I consider high because the quality of the food was poor! I doubt that we will be back anytime soon. read more

I just so happened to stay at a hotel next to this place during their first week. What a treat. Atmosphere is nice and elevated. Staff is awesome. The food was insane. This sunday (08/17/25) we went to this highly talked about restaurant. We decided on this place because it was our one year anniversary and had heard good things about the place. We called in to let the hostess know we were running 5 minutes behind our reservation time--Hostess confirmed the name on the reservation and once I confirmed she said Ok Bye. Her attitude when saying bye just gave me a vibe that the service was not going to be too good. I tried to push it past me and just try to enjoy the fact that IT WAS OUR ANNIVERSARY. We arrived to the place and as soon as the hostess began speaking, I knew that she was the one who picked up the phone due to her demeanor and way of speaking. She should not be attending people in the front if she does not know how to handle customer service. I understand that people have bad days but her attitude and body language was too much to just ignore it. AGAIN , I decided to continue and maybe our dinner would go better. The waitress we had took forever to come back to our table. I don't know if she forgot if she had a table in the corner (us) but she kept doing rounds to a bigger table and completely would walk past the table and walk around the restaurant before returning to our tablet SEVERAL times. I get that a bigger table will get you a bigger TIP but WE ARE PAYING CUSTOMERS TOO! I finally got annoyed to where I had to order our drinks and food all together because we genuinely did not know how much longer it was going to take for her to come back to our table. We finished eating and asked for the tab when she came back around . Now that her big table was gone she was offering us to get drinks from the bar or to get dessert but at this point we just wanted to get out of that uncomfortable setting and leave home. Judging off of previous reviews that were left --I would assume nothing has been done to try to change this behavior. My anniversary dinner was ruined and as pricey that this place is, I would imagine the customer service was going to be phenomenal .
