I love the food. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood. I wish they would do a little customer service training for the waitresses. Great service goes a long way. The girls are always nice, but not enough attention is paid to the customer. I have been going to Maria's for as long as I can remember and my family and I absolutely LOVE this place! The service is excellent! The staff is very friendly, the chips and salsa are to die for, and the food is arguably some of the best Mexican food in Riverside. My family loves going on Wednesday nights for their ' buy one combo, get another combo for $1.50 '. My aunt, who lives out of state, requests that we eat here at least once while she is visiting everytime she visits!! They have also recently opened another location in Corona that I have yet to go to. I highly recommend this place to anybody I know! read more

My all time favorite at this restaurant is the pollo Azteca. Tonight was probably the worst I've ever eaten. The chicken was tough and full of gristle. So if you are eating there I recommend the salad since it is always fresh and crunchy with iceberg lettuce. The enchilada's and sauce are amazing. The chili relleno was very greasy and not fresh tasting it had flavor with not very much sauce. As a chef it is worth mentioning not to make relleno ahead of time, you can stuff them with cheese but batter them for each order. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was very authentic. This is family owed restaurant so the menu is made up of family recipes. The music is out of line loud and they need to get something that everyone will like. The TV usually has a sporting event and is always nice for a family joint. Service is ok and they do go out of the way to make sure you are happy filling your chips and drinks when needed. I am taking back everything I said before. This place has really gone downhill. First of all the last two times I have eaten here there was not a manager in the restaurant. I would say there is a general lack of effort being put into the food. Almost every to-go order I have placed has some error. For example I always get a chicken enchiladas plate, all rice no beans. Sounds easy. Apparently not. The reason I ask for no beans is simply because I'm allergic. When I would bring my food home I noticed that there was beans in the container and they just put rice over the beans in the to go container. Since the cooks are completely incompetent I had to order my food a different way, enchiladas al la carte and a side of rice which is more expensive. So I had to pay more money to avoid having an allergic reaction. Then when I thought they couldn't screw up chicken enchiladas anymore, my most recent order they put green sauce on the enchiladas and then instead of remaking the enchiladas with the proper red sauce they just poured red sauce over the green sauce. I don't think it's fair to pay 12+ dollars for two enchiladas and not get what I want, which is so very simple. Another issue I have with this restaurant is that it the prices has gone up but the food quality has gone down. When we called about our to-go order there was no manger and the girl hung up on my mother on the phone, all we were asking for is a refund for the enchiladas. It's really ridiculous. Terrible customer service and no manager to talk to. Don't waste your time and money eating here. There are plenty of delicious Mexican restaurants with way better customer services for better prices in riverside. Also there was some uncleaned vomit outside the restaurant. Seems to me that person was just as unsatisfied as I was. read more

Now this place isn't bad, but its extremely bland. I came to this place expecting authentic mexican food, but it was more like I went to someone's white grandmother's house and had her cook Mexican food for me. The food had no spice to it, the beans were bland, and the rice was like no mexican rice I have had before. I had to drown my burrito in tapatio just to finish my meal. My family and I have been going to Maria's Mexican Kitchen since 2017 but they've been open for years. I've always heard they had great food but hadn't tried them. If your looking for authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. They are on the west side of Stater Brothers facing Washington Street. The 1st time I went was when my sister wanted to go there for lunch. She took a class near by and loves Mexican food as do I. We both ordered the El Toro Burrito. It's chile verde & cheese with green sauce and more cheese on top. WOW! It was delicious!! Since then I took my husband, mother and a few friends. Every time I went there I ordered the same thing. Celia and Maria knew me so well that they would ask me if I wanted the usual order. I'm the Harry met Sally kind of gal which at times drives my husband crazy. I always want my entree made a certain way. Celia and Maria as well as all the other servers are awesome and don't care how I order my food. I love everyone who works there because they always get my order correct and always check on us throughout our meal to make sure we have everything we need. I finally started to try other items on the menu and have loved all of the delicious entrees I've tried. You can't go wrong with whatever item you order. IT"S ALL FANTASTIC!!! We've gone to other Mexican restaurants in the Riverside area and NO ONE COMPARES to Maria's Mexican Kitchen. Thank you Celia, Maria and the entire crew for such great food and great service!! For 20 years we have been going to the Mexican Kitchen. Have seen a couple different owners over that time. My kids always enjoyed going there. Last night my wife and I went again - hadn't been there in some time. As always, the food was wonderful, the wait was short and service was friendly and quick. My wife probably makes better mexican food, but for a nice evening out with good food, the Mexican Kitchen is a great place to go. I came here today with a couple co-workers for lunch and my first thought was, I love the decor! Room temperature was perfect and we were seated right away. The salsa is AMAZING! I loved the spicy kick to it. Their chicken tortilla soup is deliciously authentic! and their rice, beans, and chicken tacos were very very good. 5 Stars all the way. Everything was superb! It started with the fresh salsa on the table and then we had a shrimp cocktail which was out of this world. An incredible chilli rejeno, salad and a wine margarita. We were so full we boxed up our fajitas, rice and beans, The service was impeccable! This is not good or truly authentic Mexican food. Prices are too high for the type of food being served. I was not impressed by the service either. The waitresses do not seem friendly. Our waitress didnt smile once. The hard shell tacos were served with a soggy tortilla and they didn't bother to drain the excess oil from the chile relleno. First off my family goes here constantly and love the staff but last night when we went it was new staff and our server was not very friendly and took a very long time. 10 minute wait for chips and salsa another 15 minute wait for our drink order to be taken and then another 15-20 minute wait for our food order to be taken. When our food came out I immediately noticed my order was wrong I had order the el toro burrito but substituted with chili Colorado and red sauce on top instead of green. When I received my food it was the regular el toro burrito when I told the waitress the order was wrong she immediately took it and brought it back minutes later the same burrito just pour red sauce and cheese on top of it. I mentioned to her it was the same exact burrito I sent back because you could clearly see where I had cut into the burrito. Needless to say I was very very disappointed with our service and food last night. read more

Really enjoyed Mexican Kitchen tonight. The service was ok, but my food was delish. I ordered the carnitas quesadillas with a few ice-cold Bohemias. This was a tasty dish. Simple but tasty. It was accompanied by beans and rice, the rice probably my least favorite part of the meal as it contained several withered peas and othe assorted "vegetables." I know that's one type of Mexican rice, but I'm not a fan. My wife ordered the shrimp cocktail which contained more than enough shrimp as well as avocado, etc. We were both happy with our food and our daughter enjoyed her kids plate. Overall, an enjoyable experience. We'll be back. And I better not forget the chips and salsa........big YUM factor! read more

I just checked this little place out the other day. I was in the area and there arent too many restaurants to choose from. I was the only person there at two o'clock in the afternoon. Servers were quick to greet me as I walked in the door. My steak and shrimp fajita plate was served piping hot and my DoseXX was served ice cold. If you're looking for good home-cooked Mexican food in the area this is worth a visit. The booth seating was quite uncomfortable. Decor is a little utdated. Chips and salsa were delicious. read more

I'm sorry. I've rated one other place in my life, but I needed to speak out about the service we received Sunday evening. The place was not that busy and we had 4 adults and one 8 year old to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Our service was way to slow and the food was not what other people had reported as being good. My wife was the only one who said she liked the salad bowl she had. Other people came in, ordered, ate and left before were were serviced our dinners. I even asked if what we ordered was more difficult to prepare. I was not given an answer, but was told our order was up next. Doubt if we go back even being as close as it is. read more
