The food was awesome. I had the carne adovada. The chunks of pork were soft and delicious and the sauce was rich and flavorful. My brother had enchiladas, and my dad had the pozole. Everything was great. The chips and salsa were also very good. The salsa had a little kick which was a nice change from the normal bland salsas I tend to get. The fresh tortillas were absolutely amazing. You can watch them making them which was a nice touch. Seriously, best tortilla I have had in a long time. It did take a very long time to get our order taken. The waiter was super nice, but we sat for 15-20 minutes before our order was taken. It was almost enough to knock a star off. It was also very dark inside, dark enough that my dad had to use a flashlight to read the menu. That is also why my photos are so dark. The music also did not match the setting. Sorta strange music for the environment. Overall, a great experience. We are visiting from Colorado and our first try at New Mexican food was a great success. read more

Me and my sister had an amazing meal at Maria's a week ago in Santa Fe. We had never been there before and were not disappointed. I had the cheese enchiladas with green chili on the side. It came with refried beans, rice, and sopapillas. And they serve chips and salsa without it costing extra . The meal was delicious. Probably the best Mexican food I've ever had in Santa Fe. The service was great! Unfortunately, I can't remember our server's name, but she was awesome. The ambiance is very quaint and there's easy access to good parking in their parking lot. It's not on the plaza which makes it convenient.. On my next visit to Santa Fe I will definitely be going to Maria's. I need to also add they have a huge margarita menu. Lots to choose from. I've been coming here for over 20 years but today's experience was just meh compared to those. I'd say the food was the best part, though my chile rellanos were "cool" not as warm as usual. Our wait person was disinterested, and did not ask us "do you want another drink" "did you enjoy your meal" "can I get you another drink" "can I get you anything else", she just did not make eye contact did not connect on a personal basis. Also our favorite drink the La Patrona was less than expected, it was so tart and less alcohol than usual, could not finish drinking it, and usually is a very smooth and premium drink (usually we order 2). Also the window was open and there was a cold draft. So hope this is not a trend, but we were unimpressed, and will be going elsewhere next time. read more

Wow. Came back in July 2024, after remembering how amazing this place was. It is *currently* extremely sub-par. Food meh. Service good! Atmosphere blech. (Also, in a restaurant that is very nearly empty, why seat us next to a huge Cambro filled with dirty cleaning water?? Why the change? The bartender at our hotel told us (after the fact) that the owner had recently lost an enormous lawsuit AND lost the liquor license for the restaurant. As a result of the latter, most of the staff left since they weren't making as much money. I had the taco salad. First I asked for whole beans as usually that is what is something a plant based person can eat. Well, they cook whole beans with bacon. So no on that, the refried beans are made with lard so that screwed that up for me. The gucamole was tasteless and the taco shell was too well done. I was not happy. Had lunch here last Saturday. The queso and salsa were excellent. The server was friendly and warm. I had the shrimp salad and the shrimp were perfectly cooked and the salad greens were fresh and snappy. Wife had the tostada and it was excellent as well. Drinks now are watered-down--literally; and, they're putting some sweetener in and not the quality liquor. The pretty-much all-new wait staff was running around like they didn't know what to do. Maria's New Mexican Kitchen is all sorts of crazy but what really got me what the menu of more than 150 margaritas and 170 tequilas dubbed "The Great Margarita List." I mean, c'mon. How am I supposed to chose?! Well, I couldn't. So I let me server pick my poison. Gosh I wish I remember which ones (yes I got two) he made me because not only where they phenomenal but they were potent! Absolutely brilliant! For food my mother chose the signature Blue Corn Enchiladas (flat enchiladas made with blue corn tortillas, cheese, red/green/both chile, $12.75) served with Spanish rice and refried bean. She added beef which was +$2.50. I swiped a couple bites and fell in love! The blue corn tortillas truly taste different to regular corn tortillas and I love the unique, almost exotic flavor. The beef was cooked and seasoned excellently! And there was plenty of cheese! I ordered the Carne Adovada (lean, tender chunks of pork marinated in "secret sauce" then slowly baked, served with Spanish rice, refried beans, and flour tortillas $18.00). Oh my gosh this was absolutely amazing! The hard work that went into cooking the meat was totally worth it. It was tender, like fall-apart-as-you-pick-it-up tender. And the spices were excellent. Take a tortilla, pile on the meat, refried beans and rice and you've got yourself some seriously good tacos. Or not. The pork was just as fabulous eaten on its own. Couple other tidbits. You do get complementary chips and salsa but holy hell is that salsa HOTTT! Also, the parking is a pain in the ass to find. As I've found out parking in Sante Fe sucks as it is already but this lot takes the cake. You've gotta mosey your way into a tight alley/loading dock deal and mind the many other cars that will likely be parked here. You have been warned. read more

We attended their 75th anniversary party yesterday and had an excellent time! The food as always is delicious and the service was amazing especially considering how busy they were with a packed house for the celebration. We have been coming since the mid 1980's and the decor and ambiance remind us of our great times there over those many years. Bravo to the whole staff for making yesterday an amazing experience. Hopefully Maria's will have many more years! Almost forgot to say how delicious the celebration special $7.50 margaritas were.
