La Choza is a classic Santa Fe spot--busy, lively, and full of personality. While in Santa Fe, we really wanted to try the famous blue corn enchilada with green chile sauce, and this was the perfect spot. We got the combination plate with chile relleno and cheese enchilada, plus a chalupa with sopapilla--everything was delicious and felt authentic. We went around 5:30 pm, and there was already a wait with limited parking. We opted for bar seating and got in much quicker. It got even more crowded later, so I'd recommend going early or planning ahead. read more

Delicious local spot and lovely, colorful restaurant. Everything we got was just a shade too spicy for us and the wait is long and the parking lot full even on a Tuesday at 1pm so not sure this is a place we'd come to repeatedly but overall pretty good. read more

Arrived at 7:30 in a Thursday night to find people waiting to get a table. We requested table for two and told 30 minutes but only had to wait 15. Great. Renee was our waitress who we found friendly and helpful with a pretty long menu. I order a La Rana and it was great. Had to wait 10 minutes for drink but fortunately our appetizer arrived. I order 2 fish tacos which was generous stuffed. Attractively presented and delicious (a bit spicy so be careful). My wife order a Chicken Chalupa which was overflowing with ingredients and my wife loved it. She doesn't like spicy food so assume okay as she finished 98% of it. Parking is a bit tight for such a busy restaurant but be patient. read more

Let's start with the obvious, La Choza is one of the top restaurants in Santa Fe. The red chile is exquisite. I dream about it. And something may surprise you: the mushroom soup is literally the best I've had on the planet. A cup of it with garlic bread is $6. I mean, just smell it. I order it every single time I'm here, or at The Shed near the plaza. On this visit, excellent friendly service as usual. If you're alone, I recommend sitting at the bar where most locals gather. Parking is tight, especially for those of us who drive large vehicles (do they really need five spots for to-go orders?) and they don't take reservations. I recommend you arrive a few minutes before they open for lunch or dinner, or there can be a long wait. But... in sum... this is, for me, a top 10 restaurant in the United States, just for the extraordinary red chile. No exaggeration. read more

I've heard so many great things about this place and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Just be prepared for a 45-minute to 1-hour wait, as they don't take reservations, so it's best to arrive right when they open. The parking lot is usually full, and you may need to park on the street. The ambiance is fantastic ! clean, welcoming, and full of Southwestern charm. The customer service was excellent. Jake was especially great and attentive and on top of everything. Another waiter was also very friendly, though I didn't catch his name. We started with the chips, salsa, guacamole, and queso. The chips weren't the freshest, but they weren't bad. and the queso was chef's kiss. When my entrée arrived, it was hot, flavorful, and smelled amazing. I ordered the stuffed sopapilla with ground beef and beans, served with Mexican rice everything was absolutely delicious. La Choza, the slightly more off-the-beaten-path location than its sister eatery, The Shed, is simply awesome, and lives up to all the hype. I love the chicken enchiladas with the green chile, and the pozole is simply amazing! BTW: here's the skinny on the The Shed, it's right in town, it's stupid busy, and that's what makes it fun-- if you don't mind waiting an hour or more, or get there 15-20 minutes BEFORE it opens, then The Shed is just as good as La Choza. read more

I was visiting New Mexico on business and found some great reviews so I decided to try it. There was a bit of a wait so I grabbed a margarita and sat outside in there friendly waiting area. I could tell just by the people waiting I was going to have a great experience. I was seated at the bar and had great views of the restaurant the decor was authentic New Mexico. I got a food recommendation from the woman sitting next to me and I was not disappointed the flavor was amazing a bit spicy so I mentioned I would like sour cream and it magically appeared the bartenders were that attentive. This is one of the oldest New Mexican (not Mexican) restaurants in Santa Fe. For many years in the late 90s it was a run-down dive that really catered to locals with memories and hearty abuse-loving masochistic tourists. Today, part of the revived Railyard area. it's been remodeled, so it's brighter and cozier. The food remains the same: reliable very tasty, but brutalist plated New Mexican standards. The beans are overcooked. The stacked chicken enchiladas are a bit lighter on a layer and the fillings a bit more sparse to keep to a price. Truly one of the worst Gold Coin margaritas that I had in Santa Fe The service is pleasant, but understaffed. We were seated well within our fifteen minutes. It took almost thirty to order, though. They sub in for overworked servers, with smart bussers, who can ring in appetizers and drinks. Admittedly, Santa Fe is a service desert. Getting people who want to work is a Herculean task. Still, when you need something, as a guest, you are going to have to pull someone out of their pattern to get it. This is a busy place that makes great money. No excuse for this. Bad management remains. Parking is available but, like other OG restaurants that have generational followings that ignore the food for CULTure, parking can be very tight. The Shed is still head-and-shoulders better than this place. The Pantry is far more tourist friendly. Let the APH crowd (Aging post-hippies) and their fam's have this one. This place came recommended by the owners of a house we were watching, and was within walking distance. We sat at the bar and the bar attendant was really friendly. When asked about the soups, she suggested blending the mushroom soup and green chile soup into one, which I did and it was delicious! An off-the-menu recommendation...try it yourself! Wow! This place was awesome! The wait was a bit long since it's not the biggest restaurant but it was well worth it. Our server Renee saw that we had been waiting a while and I was with some hungry kids. She took our drink order and then asked if we wanted to get our food order in too. We ordered and she got it in with the kitchen right away. The food came out quickly and it was amazing! I got the grande burrito with chicken and asked for the green and red sauce on it as suggested by Renee. It tasted amazing a nice mix or sweet, smoky heat in the red and the green sauce had a nice texture with a kick to it. La Choza was recommended by several friends including one who lives in Santa fe. Had to check it out on my recent visit. The restaurant is pretty and casual with a great indoor and outdoor dining areas and a nice outdoor area to sit and wait for a table. It's very popular, so it's great that they have a place to sit and sip while you wait. The service was good, and our food was delicious. I had the stacked cheese enchiladas with green chili sauce. Worth the wait. We waited 30 minutes for lunch on a Monday. They said it could be 45 minutes but they were able to make it happen. The Lyft and Uber drivers in Albuquerque advised us to come here. And now I now why. Real, authentic, made-from-scratch, New Mexico cuisine. Boom. The enchiladas, the chile rellenos, the pozole, the beans AND the star of it all...the chiles in all their forms of sauces and salsas. Service was super friendly, attentive, and consistent. I was really hoping for some Chile Rellenos but the server recommended the enchiladas after I asked for something I should not miss. So, I order a combo--one Chile Relleno and one blue corn pork enchilada. She was right. The enchilada was perfect but the chile relleno was off someway. I agree with most of the reviews in that everything was quite spicy but not unenjoyably so. I would recommend a stop here if passing through town. Come here for great eats! They don't take reservations but the food is delicious and worth the wait! We got on the wait list around 6pm on a Saturday. We waited almost 2 hours. You can track how many tables are ahead of you using the link they text you when you check in. We left for about an hour and a half to run errands and came bank to wait outside. We were fine with a sitting at a table or at the bar. That likely got us seated sooner. We ended up at the bar. We ordered a few drinks: Mango margarita Oaxaca Paloma Both were delicious! The chile clam chowder is not to be missed. It was simply amazing with chile! I would have been okay with more chile in the bowl. It comes with garlic bread and it was very good as well. The service was fantastic and they quoted us a longer wait time, but it was much shorter than anticipated.
