Chile relleno was goat, we would come back just for this dish. Queso especial with red Chile and the chips were perfectly crunchy and seasoned. Unfortunately I didn't like the famed green Chile stew or burrito. Enchiladas were ok, cafe pasquals was better. Avoid the steak, it is not seasoned very well. Sopapillas were not crispy and as soft inside as expected, green Chile clam chowder was fine, I preferred it to the stew which I found a little one dimensional. While in Santa Fe, we really wanted to try the famous blue corn enchilada with green chile sauce, and this was the perfect spot. We got the combination plate with chile relleno and cheese enchilada, plus a chalupa with sopapilla--everything was delicious and felt authentic. We went around 5:30 pm, and there was already a wait with limited parking. We opted for bar seating and got in much quicker. It got even more crowded later, so I'd recommend going early or planning ahead. read more

The best margarita I had in Santa Fe. They have an extensive margarita menu including both lime and sour-based variants, and they put real effort into differentiating the types drinks. I went with their standard version, La Perla, and enjoyed it, and we also liked the Choza burn. We tried the adovada enchiladas and enjoyed them. The pork is tender and high quality. The side posole was my favorite version I had in New Mexico. The sopapillas came out fresh, and were a unique version, slightly sweeter and less heavy than other versions I've had in NM. We waited about 30 minutes on a Saturday evening for a party of 3, and we were lucky to get a table outside, which was lovely. The staff and servers were all nice. read more

The parking lot was a bit crowded at the time we arrived. A sign of a popular place. We luckily found the one spot available in the lot. We got on the waitlist, and I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes. We were seated and a waiter greeted us and took our drinks. The place was clean and there were plenty of people dining there. We ordered our food and we didn't wait long for the food to arrive. All three in our party were quite satisfied with the food. The server kept our drinks filled and he brought out sopapillas. I used the restroom and I found it to be clean. We had a really nice experience at La Choza. For one member in our party, this is her favorite restaurant in Santa Fe. Let's start with the obvious, La Choza is one of the top restaurants in Santa Fe. The red chile is exquisite. I dream about it. And something may surprise you: the mushroom soup is literally the best I've had on the planet. A cup of it with garlic bread is $6. I mean, just smell it. I order it every single time I'm here, or at The Shed near the plaza. On this visit, excellent friendly service as usual. If you're alone, I recommend sitting at the bar where most locals gather. Parking is tight, especially for those of us who drive large vehicles (do they really need five spots for to-go orders?) and they don't take reservations. I recommend you arrive a few minutes before they open for lunch or dinner, or there can be a long wait. But... in sum... this is, for me, a top 10 restaurant in the United States, just for the extraordinary red chile. No exaggeration. read more

Arrived at 7:30 in a Thursday night to find people waiting to get a table. We requested table for two and told 30 minutes but only had to wait 15. Great. Renee was our waitress who we found friendly and helpful with a pretty long menu. I order a La Rana and it was great. Had to wait 10 minutes for drink but fortunately our appetizer arrived. I order 2 fish tacos which was generous stuffed. Attractively presented and delicious (a bit spicy so be careful). My wife order a Chicken Chalupa which was overflowing with ingredients and my wife loved it. She doesn't like spicy food so assume okay as she finished 98% of it. Parking is a bit tight for such a busy restaurant but be patient. read more

After getting there right before 5 PM, the place was already packed. We lucked out with parking as wife is Handicapped and they let us park in a take out space. We also lucked out as they had a table out in the patio right away. The food was really great as I had a combo with enchilada and relleno. Great sauce and pozole was hot but great. The parking is a bit rough but we found a spot. The place gets busy so we had to wait around a half hour. They sat us on the patio which I enjoyed. Our waitress was great. The food was delicious. Just be prepared for a 45-minute to 1-hour wait, as they don't take reservations, so it's best to arrive right when they open. The parking lot is usually full, and you may need to park on the street. The ambiance is fantastic ! clean, welcoming, and full of Southwestern charm. The customer service was excellent. Jake was especially great and attentive and on top of everything. Another waiter was also very friendly, though I didn't catch his name. We started with the chips, salsa, guacamole, and queso. The chips weren't the freshest, but they weren't bad. and the queso was chef's kiss. When my entrée arrived, it was hot, flavorful, and smelled amazing. I ordered the stuffed sopapilla with ground beef and beans, served with Mexican rice everything was absolutely delicious. This is one of the oldest New Mexican (not Mexican) restaurants in Santa Fe. For many years in the late 90s it was a run-down dive that really catered to locals with memories and hearty abuse-loving masochistic tourists. Today, part of the revived Railyard area. it's been remodeled, so it's brighter and cozier. The food remains the same: reliable very tasty, but brutalist plated New Mexican standards. The beans are overcooked. The stacked chicken enchiladas are a bit lighter on a layer and the fillings a bit more sparse to keep to a price. Truly one of the worst Gold Coin margaritas that I had in Santa Fe The service is pleasant, but understaffed. We were seated well within our fifteen minutes. It took almost thirty to order, though. They sub in for overworked servers, with smart bussers, who can ring in appetizers and drinks. Admittedly, Santa Fe is a service desert. Getting people who want to work is a Herculean task. Still, when you need something, as a guest, you are going to have to pull someone out of their pattern to get it. This is a busy place that makes great money. No excuse for this. Bad management remains. Parking is available but, like other OG restaurants that have generational followings that ignore the food for CULTure, parking can be very tight. The Shed is still head-and-shoulders better than this place. The Pantry is far more tourist friendly. Let the APH crowd (Aging post-hippies) and their fam's have this one. The combo plate seemed like the way to go, as it had everything I was interested in on the menu; pozole, carne adovada, and a pork tamale. I got a red chile beef taco too. I was visiting New Mexico on business and found some great reviews so I decided to try it. There was a bit of a wait so I grabbed a margarita and sat outside in there friendly waiting area. I could tell just by the people waiting I was going to have a great experience. I was seated at the bar and had great views of the restaurant the decor was authentic New Mexico. I got a food recommendation from the woman sitting next to me and I was not disappointed the flavor was amazing a bit spicy so I mentioned I would like sour cream and it magically appeared the bartenders were that attentive. First, a warning for people who expect Tex Mex - this is NOT that. It is authentic New Mexican, which is more of a cousin to Mexican food than a sibling of Tex Mex, which as it turns out means it's amazing. My husband and I visited La Choza on a trip to Santa Fe because it was recommended as one of the top places in town for chile sauce. I'm a vegetarian and had the blue corn burrito (blu corn tortillas, pinto beans and onions topped with cheese and choice of chile sauce) platter with vegetarian posole. My husband had the vegetarian enchiladas. We both tried "Christmas" style - both red and green chile sauce - and absolutely loved it. We also tried the green chile tamale with red chile sauce, also pretty amazing. I found the sauces both flavorful with a bite but not too much burn. The meal was served with our choice of garlic bread or sopapillas - we went with sopapillas. A friendly woman at the table next to us explained that locals use it to sop up the chile on the plate, but she also approves of the "touristy" option of using the honey provided on the table for a sweet option. The waitstaff was very helpful and attentive. We had two servers keeping drinks filled and taking our orders/bringing food. The setting was also great: even though this is something we stumbled on as tourists, it was clear this was a popular location for locals. The building is clearly an older adobe building, probably originally a house, with a series of small rooms painted in cheerful colors with quirky paintings and other decorations. One warning: plan ahead and prepare to wait. We had skipped lunch and showed up at 4:40 (after the shutdown between lunch and dinner) on a Friday and waited 45 min for a table. Happily there is a lovely outdoor patio and you can grab one of an extensive list of margaritas and mescal drinks and enjoy the breeze while waiting. read more

The restaurant is pretty and casual with a great indoor and outdoor dining areas and a nice outdoor area to sit and wait for a table. Worth the wait. We waited 30 minutes for lunch on a Monday. They said it could be 45 minutes but they were able to make it happen. The Lyft and Uber drivers in Albuquerque advised us to come here. And now I now why. Real, authentic, made-from-scratch, New Mexico cuisine. Boom.
