We have eaten for years but I was extremely disappointed today with the food and service. My order was gotten wrong which wouldn't be the end of the world however when I walked into the establishment it wreaked of marajauna, legal or not it is not good business practice. The owner's son helped me and said he was the one that had been smoking it. When I called to complain that my order was wrong, I was told it didn't matter and that since he was the owner's son he could do as he wished. Can't help but think my order would have been right had he not been worried about his next smoke. Hope their customer service improves. read more

I see this place has bad reviews but we had a good experience. We ordered for pickup via door dash. We got food for 5 people. It wasn't quite ready when we arrived to pick it up, but that gave us time to get salsa from the salsa bar. Anyplace that has a salsa bar that's not restrictive with containers gets extra points in my book. I did order an additional 8 oz. container of salsa because I like a lot of salsa and I think it's wrong to just take a bunch of salsa. The food was good and I would go back. read more

I ordered nachos through door dash and my order was not done right. So I called and explained how I wanted them done and the employee was rude to start with. So I called back when they got it wrong the second time. So my wife called them back and the employee was extremely rude and told my wife not to order from them again and don't call back!! It's currently 10:42 on a Tuesday night, the hours posted online are 8am to 12 am Monday through Friday. The hours posted on the windows in huge lettering is 8am to 12 am everyday. We tried going in at 10:42 and the woman said they were closed. When asked why since they were open till midnight she said they close at 11pm.... I always get the rolled tacos (unless having them there), I ask for the all toppings in the side and with Mex guacamol. Somwhen I get home, pop them in air fryer; set them up myself so tbey don't get mushy and soggy....and if super hungry, get some fish tacos (with the tortilla extra crispy) and with the chipotle crema they have at the salsa bar; CANT GO WRONG! read more

Not sure why this place is getting 2.5 stars. I really like the food here and the salsa bar. I usually get a super burrito here. They are tasty and delicious. They make a good al pastor meat and shredded chicken meat here. I always grab stuff from the salsa bar, hot salsa, corn salsa, jalapeños, chipotle salsa, all great stuff. I toss it all in my bag so I can drench my burrito in salsa goodness. The prices here are not bad, not too expensive. Service is fast and the people seem nice. I don't think there is a bathroom for customers here, but there is an indoor and outdoor seating area for dining in. Parking is not difficult and there is plenty. Got MASSIVE lip service from a very rude Latina worker that I've never seen before. Then, she wouldn't answer the phone when I tried to call in the order. FOOD POISONING!! On December 29th 2019 at approximately 10:00PM I was craving taquitos, so my boyfriend and I decided on Maria's. I got the chicken taquitos with Mexican guacamole and my boyfriend got the chicken fries with everything. About two hours later I was hit HARD with food poisoning. I have never been that sick before in my life. I couldn't keep anything in my body for 7 hours. My boyfriend had to take me to the hospital and I was admitted at 11:00AM on December 30th. Last night I was craving a Chile relleno. My husband and daughter headed to Maria's since Mariscos was closed. When I received my Chile relleno plate I was disgusted. They wrapped a green cheese stuffed Chile into a flour tortilla. It was more like a Chile burrito. Mind you there was no green or red sauce. More like a brown sauce with no flavor. The meal was so bland that the only flavor came from their frijoles. My husband ordered a soft taco with a cheese quesadilla. His food was just as bland as mine. Yesterday morning Aug. 24, 2019 we tried to eat at this place again. My wife ordered a Carnitas plate and I ordered a Asada burrito supreme. Her's came out first and it was an Asada plate. My wife said to the lady behind the counter, " This is wrong, I ordered the carnitas plate." The lady rudely replied, "No, that's what you said." So she just brought her plate to the table and started to eat it anyway. My order came out next. I opened it up then cut my burrito in half (as I always do Incase I can't eat the entire thing). I noticed that I had carnitas in it. So my wife stood up, walked to the counter explained again how our orders were both wrong. She rudely stated, " No, that's how you ordered it!" We then requested a refund and left without any sort of apology or nice gesture of any sort for getting our order incorrect. We could not believe how stoic and rude the lady was to us; suggesting the we ordered wrong (when we ordered our own individually). We have: DO NOT EAT AT MARIAS in our iPhone notes for various reasons but we always seem to forget. Not anymore! This rude employee sealed the deal for us this time. Good luck if you go here. We strongly recommend that you go somewhere else. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT MARIAS TACO SHOP! The regular ladies at the Merced and Atwater locations are rude and seem unhappy to be employed. While I waited I had chips and salsa for under 2 bucks. I appreciate the condiment bar , it's always fully stocked with plenty of odds be ends to take with your meal to go. I love cebiche, I've tried cebiche at every Mexican/Mexican-American restaurant I've been to in Atwater, Merced, Fresno, Madera, Modesto, San Jose etc. This location has the worst cebiche tostadas I've ever tasted. They were bland, no flavor whatsoever, just terrible. They gave me what amounted to about 1/4 cup of "cebiche" per tostada. I couldn't believe it. I walk in and I had to wait at least a minute before they greeted me and took my order, the cashier and the cook were too busy gossiping. I paid $1 less than what I would have paid for two cebiche tostadas over at Josie's, also in Atwater. Josie's cebiche tostadas are delicious and they cover the whole tostada with a mountain of cebiche, unlike here, where 3/4 of my tostadas were visible because they were so plain! Sent my wife in to get 60 dollars worth of food. They had a new girl working so they say and she 1st tried to argue about what color mountain dew was. She was trying to give me some white color soda and said it was mountain dew. Then they made us the wrong food and I go back to get just 1 burrito and 1 side order of bean and cheese replace and I get the most rudest interaction that I ever had with any fastfood place that messed up your meal. Then they felt like they didn't want to replace the beans and cheese the right way I guess so they gave me a bowl full of bean sauce with nothing else in it. I call them back and they hang up in me twice and tell me I don't even eat there before some other lady apologizes ask some questions and then apologizes. Used to love that lil spot...
