We've been coming back to this cozy, neighborhood place for a couple of years now. This time, without reservations and still, we were quickly greeted and seated by an energetic waitress/hostest/bartender who seems to be everywhere. Lots of regulars, hearing "good to see you," and "I see you have the muscles," and plenty of smiles. A small hiccough--after we were seated, it took a while for the young, probably new waiter to greet us, but then it was all good, as usual. Generous portions, without being supersized, excellent branzino and pappardelle with short-rib ragu, and amazingly, a Brunello di Montalcino by the glass. (Aged enough the tannins smoothed out, with a lick of black licorice.) Full, we still made room for an affogato. We'll be back again. read more

My party of four enjoyed a very good early (5:00 PM) dinner on a Saturday evening. Pasta was very good (especially the pappardelle with wild boar ragu) as were the starters. We had a few desserts and all were good. Our server was very friendly and very attentive. The inside is small'ish but you don't feel squeezed in. Because this place isn't on 5th Avenue or 7th Avenue, it wasn't on our radar. But now it is and we will definitely be back. read more

WOW. Sad it took me so long to try this place because Mariela blew me out of the damn water! Very cute and cozy local place in Park Slope. The eggplant stew that comes with the buratta is to die for, I would eat an entire bowl of just this. The real star of dinner was the grilled branzino, it was possibly the best fish I've ever had. Highly recommended after many visits. Great food, warm atmosphere and excellent accommodating staff (my dad has dementia and we always went to Mariella bc of service). They use chicken from Goffle Farm in NJ - our regular stop to buy excellent poultry. Desert menu is great too. read more

Cute little corner spot near prospect park. Outdoor dining quite charming, but can get cold. I prefer the garden seating but on this visit my bf's mom wanted to sit indoor. The pasta dishes are all consistently good. I would not say amazing, but it's solid. My last visit I had the lobster ravioli but sadly they did not have it this day. Pretty solid Italian spot with an open kitchen so you can see inside where all the magic happens. We were seated quickly (to be fair it was 8pm on a Wednesday but still), and the food came out just as quickly. I feel like most Italian places I go to are so insanely slow (for the ambience of course), but we actually were in a rush so we appreciated the hustle. I ordered the walnut pesto dish, which was tube pasta with walnut kale pesto. It was super yummy, especially with extra cheese sprinkled on top (I'm a hoe for cheese on pasta). I liked the texture that the walnuts brought to the bite as well. It was very noticeably oily though, with oil collecting like soup at the bottom of the bowl. I also thought that the portion size was very small. Both my friend and I were still hungry after leaving, even though what we got was great. Looking at the menu, the food is pretty reasonably priced on first glance, but considering the amount of pasta you get for your buck, that initial judgement call definitely starts to waver. I love this neighborhood joint! The food is definitely elevated level! Their pasta specials are very yummy and I can't get enough of their short ribs and their octopus dishes! We always get the tartufo! Though there is brunch photos - that was pre pandemic so I don't know what their weekend schedule is these days! The ambience is the quintessential Park Slope vibe where our server spoke with a European accent and the menu had some typical American/ Italian fare produced with classical French techniques at fair prices. I had the lobster ravioli. Nicely plated with an abundance of peas in a cream sauce that was not too heavy. I came to Mariella for dinner in late January 2021. I live in Brooklyn but not too close to the area. My friend picked this place, I'd never heard of it previously. We came without a reservation around 6 on a Monday night. It was a pretty cold night, and they didn't have outdoor heaters at the time we dined. The service was kind and efficient. They gave us complimentary bread and olive oil to start after we ordered. I got a pasta dish with pesto sauce and thought it was fine. I liked my friend's pasta dish a lot more. We also had some roasted potatoes on the side that were a lot like thick fries. Solid choice for Italian in the area but I wouldn't say this is a place you need to go out of the way for. read more

I'm giving this place a 4/5 because I ordered the frittata. They have so many other pasta options on the menu. We went for brunch so I wanted eggs but next time, I'll try the pasta for sure! The bread with olive oil was delicious, and the special of the day which was spinach ricotta ravioli was so good I was literally lapping up the brown butter sauce with the remaining bread we had. Wow. Mariella was serious a home run. Was searching on Yelp for a spot that serves pasta and we ended up here! Ordered the octopus zucchini appetizer as my entree because I wanted something light. HOLY LORD SAVIOR THE FLAVOR IT SERVES! This was by far the best octopus I've had in the United States. It's up there with the octopus I've had in Greece, Croatia, Barcelona and Italy. Ever had octopus melt in your mouth? The octopus here absolutely does! Paired with the peppery arugula and refreshing mint vinaigrette- muah! Brava! Also the zucchini doesn't taste like plain zucchini. It's buttery and zingy at the same time. 10/10 highly recommend this dish. My friend got the spinach ricotta ravioli in brown butter with sage. She cleaned her plate without even coming up for air and was literally dipping the remainder of the bread from the basket in the brown butter sauce at the end she loved it so much. Your dinner starts with bread & the most flavorful olive oil. Delightfully bright with notes of pepper and fruit. It's no wonder our dinner was so marvelous-- the owner (I think he was the owner) was very sweet when I had a quick chat with him about the octopus. My 5 month son was getting antsy from me holding him in front of the wall and I changed my seat to the back door chair that was there as a barrier to the rear. I sat there so I could distract my son to look outside and I could eat simultaneously. This worked and the staff did not discourage me from sitting there. My first time visiting Mariella, and not my last. I sat at the bar and I tried two of the evenings specials. The first was a Crostini with Truffle Burrata and Prosciutto. It was good, not great. The second was was Taglierini with wild Mushrooms and Truffle Butter. It was delicious, but very filling. I ordered a glass of Sangiovese, and a glass of Valpolicella. Mariella won my brunch heart. If anyone wants to know my go to brunch place. Mariella is it. You don't have to go anywhere else. They have everything to offer, sweet, savory, eggs MAD pasta dishes. I mean. On a summer, spring day you perfect seating outside. Or even on a cold night or day you can sit toasty and cozy inside. The staff is super freaking friendly. Mariella is a neighborhood gem in Park Slope. We waited a short time on the sidewalk before being offered a table for four in the cozy courtyard. Great people watching. Rustic bread and olive oil were brought to the table. We ordered salmon with kale and purple cabbage, and a Campo salad -- a colorful, heaping tangle of slaw and chickpeas with shrimp on the side (the special order of shrimp with the salad was met with no attitude and no problem). Outdoor seating is lovely. I have lived in Brooklyn a long time and never been to this restaurant. Italian is one of my favorite cuisines. Unfortunately our experience here was sub-par. The olive oil served with bread wasn't high quality. The bread wasn't warmed. The food was bland and not high quality. My husband ordered a steak and asked for a sauce and they had no idea what to bring him- offered ketchup. There's so much good Italian food in Brooklyn, we won't be returning. read more
