We recently hosted our daughter's First Communion celebration at Ophelia's Wines & Bites, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. Throughout the planning process, numerous promises were made regarding setup assistance, décor, staffing, food portions, beverage service, and overall event coordination that were either not followed through on or changed entirely by the day of the event. Family members and guests ended up handling many tasks that we were told would already be completed, including decorating, organizing tables, lighting candles, and addressing missing items while guests were arriving. Food portions were much smaller than represented during the tasting, several items we expected to be included were charged separately, beverage service was poorly managed, and there was little to no actual table service despite paying for what was presented as an "all-inclusive" event experience. Most upsetting was the lack of communication, follow-through, and accountability afterward. We spent a significant amount of money expecting professionalism and hospitality, but left feeling stressed, embarrassed, and taken advantage of during what should have been a very special day for our daughter. I am sharing this simply so others thoroughly clarify ALL expectations, pricing, staffing, setup responsibilities, food quantities, and service details in writing before booking an event there.

The atmosphere is charming, and the space itself appeared clean, but the place was completely empty during our visit, which surprised us. I ordered a Lambrusco from the sparkling section of the menu and expected something bubbly, but what came out was a still red wine. Everyone at the table was a little confused by that. Thankfully it still tasted good, so I kept it -- just not what I thought I ordered. For food, I had the crostini, which tasted good, but for the price I expected larger portions rather than very thin slivers of toasted bread with cheese and fruit. We also ordered the s'mores, which were fun and tasty, but again didn't quite feel worth the cost. A few more strawberries or a way to toast the marshmallows would've elevated it. The service was truly great, though. Our waitress was incredibly sweet, attentive, and checked on us often. She was definitely the highlight of the visit. The only real downside was seeing a few roaches on the wall. I know it's the South and it happens, but it's still not ideal in a dining setting, even in a place that otherwise seemed clean. Overall, Ophelia's has so much charm and potential, and with a few improvements -- clearer menu descriptions, portion adjustments, and addressing the pest issue -- it could be a wonderful go-to spot.

I normally never comment on service but the bartender was so unpleasant that it made us feel awkward being there! As soon as I saw the paper cup of queso coming towards us, I was immediately turned off before the plate even hit the table! I've had better chips & queso from the grocery store. Our initial gripe was the service which wasn't particularly warm or friendly (not something that we usually find in Summerville). A patron's connection with a server is probably 75% of your dining experience at an eatery and here it was cold and unassuming. However, what was especially disappointing was the food. My burger was a dry hockey puck and was basically your typical frozen burger that you would order on the cheap from Costco. This isn't typical for a pub, a freshly made burger is usually a staple of Pub fare and it was a surprise that they would serve a frozen paddy. The fries were also nothing special as they were unenjoyable and a disappointment. My guests were also disappointed in their individual meals as well. It's possible that we hit this spot on a "bad hair day" and since we live in Summerville, we may at some point give the Dog and Duck a chance for redemption.

They get points for being generous with the celery. I tried the Polish Kielbasy with sauerkraut, peppers and onions on a toasted hoagie roll. The sausage itself was huge, and I could not finish it but not for a lack of trying. I got the onion rings for a two-dollar upcharge, and it was worth the price. I had visitors this pub years ago but since then it has been renovated. It gives off an old English vibe inside despite being an Irish pub. It's decorated beautifully and it is super busy. I have to say it's one of the best places I've been to recently for excellent service vibes. The staff are attentive & efficient. They just put out a new food menu and I have to say it's varied & great... The cheesesteak... oh my... the mashed potatoes... oh my... the big plate of shareable nachos. It's all great. Team trivia here is fun, The only negative thing is that it's loud inside. Lots of people. A lot of shaded areas to sit outside also. Put this spot on your list for a casual spot to catch up with friends & have great pub food.
